This is one of our favorite places in Ballston. The service is attentive and considerate. It is nice to pick your wine off of the shelf. The wine prices are reasonable and their license allows you to take wine if you don't finish the bottle. I really enjoy the Filet here. More...

New Year's Eve dinner with wine pairing was grand. Good choice of entrees, we had bouillabaisse and rockfish. First course of butternut squash soup and stuffed oysters was delicious. And the assorted dessert plate continues to be the best thing here next to the entrees. Wine pairing was also a hit. More...

First time visitor and I was impressed. Was there for lunch and had the executive lunch special. Service was excellent and attentive. The onion soup was tasty and the chicken/mushroom crepe was a much larger portion than I had expected, which was nice because often crepes are very dainty affairs. I didn't order wine but hope to go back soon to sample their other fare. Quite a warm, welcoming place. More...

Have dined her many times because you pick out your own wine from the shelves. They can provide guidance/advice/recommendations if you want it. The food is good and the specials are particularly interesting. The staff are very helpful, courteous and you don't feel rushed. The bar area has seating both at the bar and high top tables. They also have a more private section for private parties but if the room is not engaged you may sit in that area as well. Recommend reservation, particularly during the holiday season. More...

We had an amazing, delicious, quality dinner - the portion of my steak and frites was absolutely huge and my SO really enjoyed the mushroom orzo. We had the lamb meatballs and ahi tuna for appetizers and we thought they had amazing touches. The best part was our waitress - Jocelyn I believe her name was. She was a delight and answered our questions thoughtfully. More...

The duck, salmon, and steak frites were fab, not to mention the great service and allowing our table of 6 to have a small birthday celebration for an 11 year old! We love having great wine choices at reasonable prices and the wonderful cocktail suggestions and service by Melvin behind the bar! Kudos to all! More...

My husband and I ate at Grand Cru for the first time. We’ll definitely return. The food was outstanding. French onion soup, charcuterie plate, Brussels sprouts salad and crab cakes were on our menu. I had the crab cakes, which had great chunks of crab meat with little filler. We enjoyed our server and found the atmosphere pleasant. My only concern was the high noise level, but that’s pretty common in all eateries these days. More...

The French Onion soup was excellent. However, the risotto and lobster appetizer was not even warm when it was served, requiring it to be returned and redone, thus delaying arrival of our appetizer. The coffee granita with doughnuts was a fabulous dessert. More...

Great food, attentive, kind and friendly service... what more could one want? The steak frites underscores why it is a perennial classic, and the Grand Cru hamburger is emphatically satisfying. After a few dinners there, and after a delightful lunch, Grand Cru could become a de fault destination. More...

We like Grand Cru: the food is very tasty and the location is very convenient both to the Metro and our house. The service is good but this visit proved once again, that if you arrive after 8:45 PM, even though hours are listed to 9:30-10, one feels rushed with the service/servers, hoping you don't want dessert or another glass of wine.

Wonderful place. We came here our first night in Arlington as we found their review on YELP.  Had the French Onion, which was as EVERYONE has reviewed, was AMAZING.  Not your typical French Onion--everyone must try. We had the steak and scallops--delicious.  Wine was very good @ $7 glass, however, we weren't familiar with the restaurant and didn't know you should purchase your bottle of wine from the massive wall selection. This would have been helpful if there was a note on the tables with the cocktail list as we would have done that.Didn't have room for dessert so we went back 2 nights later for the TRIO OF CRÈME BRÛLÉE for ONLY $8--amazing. I've been craving since that night--will be visiting again for dessert BEFORE WE LEAVE.  Highly recommend!!!  The Servers were WONDERFUL! More...

All four of us were delighted with our meals, but the traditional French bistro classic, steak frites, and the US classic hamburger were each quite spectacular. The dessert menu is almost overwhelming - were I dining alone I'd over one of each - but the desserts that we decided up were fantastic (unnecessary, but fantastic). Grand Cru turned out to be precisely the right spot to have dinner and catch up with dear friends. More...

We were a party of three, dining outdoors in the lovely courtyard area next to the restaurant. This is a very nice area to dine in on a nice summer evening. This is an inner courtyard area surrounded by several large buildings, which means than street noise and sidewalk traffic are minimized. Unfortunately, this night we were next to a large, boisterous happy hour group, so the sound level was higher than usual. I have dined at Grand Cru many times over the years, and have found the food to be consistently good. I had the scallops, and my colleagues had the salmon and a hamburger. We were all pleased with the quality and the presentation. I sampled the French fries from my friend’s burger dish and thought they were some of the best I’ve had anywhere. My scallops were perfectly done and the sauce and purée complemented the scallops very well. All of us were happy with our choices. The menu is somewhat limited, but most people will find choices they will be happy with. While we were not there to drink, we each had a glass of one of the featured wines and were happy with these offerings. For wine by the bottle, there is an extensive list of options. Service was relaxed, so we had ample time to chat and enjoy the ambience. More...

Oh my god. This is my new favorite restaurant for so many reasons. The hospitality is literally incredible, the servers and owner (sweet French woman who is super cute and trendy) are extremely considerate and go out of their way to make sure every customer is happy with their orders and respective wait times. I'm grateful for this type of service no matter how much or how little we decide to order.Apps:Tomato & Melon salad (4.75/5): super fresh fruit paired with basil ice and the creamiest goat cheese, only complaint is the size of the app.. so tiny but can't complain when every aspect of this salad was delicious and beautifully presentedCharcuterie board (4/5): prosciutto isn't my favorite, but Grand Cru had really yummy, salty, fatty prosciutto that melted on the tongue. Same goes with the pepperoni and salami. Mystery meat was too questionable for me to try, though. Looked like roast beef.Entrees:Steak & frites (5/5): ugh a perfect medium steak with the best steak sauce. Seasoned but the main player in this game was still the actual steak. So tender. Butternut squash soup (5/5): the first batch of the season according to our server and the squash was picked at its peak cuz this was the lightest yet most flavorful fall soup I've had in a long time!Dessert:Chocolate fondue (5/5): dark Belgian chocolate, pineapple, banana, rice kripsies, marshmallows, blackberry. Chocolate was silky, rich, and hot! Liquid gold and fresh fruit, yum.Liquid cheesecake (4/5): we got this on the house, surprisingly! So sweet of our server, he definitely didn't need to do that but apparently they were taking too long to bring our dinner. My date and I didn't even notice haha!Drinks:Paris in the summer (5/5): didn't even think there was alcohol (bourbon) in this, the bartender crafted this cocktail with precision and patience. Mango lovers, this one is for you! Tasted like a Tooti Frooti, but more fresh!Red sangria (5/5): crisp, tart, refreshing! The rum and wine balance was subtle and packed a punch that wasn't noticeable until my second drink haha.Cabernet Sauvignon (5/5): we also got these on the house for apparently having to wait too long for our dinners. Sooo sweet and unnecessary of the owner to have apologized and give these to us for free. I'm so happy we got to enjoy a dinner on the patio last night. The courtyard is cute and the weather was beautiful. Lots of people but not rowdy, and really set the mood for a lovely rest of the night. Thank you so much for making it a memorable date, Grand Cru. We went to Grand Cru during happy hour for a friend's birthday before going out to a birthday dinner on Monday, September 16th.  We told the server it was our friend's birthday and they made it special by bringing out a dessert with a candle and staying with us while we sang to her.  The servers definitely went above and beyond.  I appreciate it and I know the birthday girl appreciated it too.Grand Cru does have a really nice happy hour and even their regular (non-happy hour) menu is reasonably priced for the quality of the food.  I would recommend it.
