GR Catering catered my building's Halloween party last night. The food was delicious. The beef and chicken had a great sauce and were cooked perfectly. The beans and squash were great as well. Jamal saw that I had an infant in my arms and immediately offered to help me, came around from where he was serving and made up my entire plate. It was extremely chivalrous. GR Catering recently catered my wedding on July 31st in San Diego, and I have to say...Owners Marty and Gaby, Caterer Manager Dustin, and their team were absolutely AMAZING! ! I would book them again in a heart beat!!Several months back, I was researching caterers in San Diego for my wedding. I relied on Yelp and Wedding Wire to help me make decisions. After reading several reviews from previous clients, I decided to give them a whirl.Marty was very quick to respond to my inquiry and provided me great information. I reviewed their menu options, and was loving the description of their "Tropical Sunset Luau Menu." After sending him my selections, he quickly drafted a menu proposal with his quotes for a buffet setup. And with the quote he provided, YOU COULDN'T BEAT HIS PRICE! A few weeks prior to our wedding day, we coordinated a taste test session. I knew I was going to book him because I already had a great feeling about Marty and his team, especially his wife Gaby, after frequent communication with them via email and phone. At the taste testing session, Marty and Dustin prepared a beautiful table set up for my (NOW) husband and I. He coursed out each item from Salads to Entrees. These were all of the following items from the Tropical Sunset Luau Menu (with my review): -Island Style Pork Ribs: OMG, the ribs were a HUGE hit at the wedding! Our Guests paid great compliments on the ribs, and I agree there were THAT GOOD! The ribs were cooked perfectly, tender, and very flavorful with Marty's special bbq sauce. My brother, whose a foodie nut and picky, kept raving about it!-Island BBQ Chicken: Moist, tender, and sooooo good with the glazed teriyaki sauce. This was my favorite along with the ribs!-Mahi Mahi with Tropical Salsa: Cooked perfectly and not dry one bit! Fish served at buffets can be a "hit or miss" but the way GR Catering prepared their Mahi Mahi was a big HIT, especially for my Guests who don't really eat meat other than seafood.-Island Citrus BBQ Sauce: beautifully sweet and tangy with the right amount of spices.-Island Fried Rice: The island fried rice was also wonderful! Cook just right and not bland. -Spring Mix Salad with Cranberries, Walnuts and Raspberry Vinaigrette: This salad blend and dressing complimented the entrees.-Grilled Vegetable Stir Fry: Perfectly grilled and vegetable blend was perfect and seasoned beautifully!-Fresh Hawaiian Rolls and Butter: Soft and FLUFFY!-Tropical Fruit Display with Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Honeydew, and Pineapple: Perfectly ripe and displayed. My husband was allergic to pineapple, so Marty made sure pineapple was not mixed in the fried rice (as he usually prepares with pineapple), and also made sure my husband had his own separate bbq sauce without the pineapple chunks.On the day of the Wedding, Marty and his team were all ready to go with service following the ceremony. During cocktails and appetizers, we also ordered the bbq beef shooters which consisted of BBQ Angus Beef Tender Morsels andTangy BBQ Sauce in a Shot Glass AND Mini Caprese Skewers ­ with fresh Mozzarella, Grape Tomatoes and Basil, Drizzled with a Balsamic Glaze...ALL were perfect starters prior to the big feast for dinner.GR Catering are professionals and very super friendly! They went above and beyond to ensure dinner service went smooth! Marty ensured to check-in on us to see if there was anything else we needed. My friend had a wedding in San Diego this past weekend at a Marina.  Everything was so beautifully organized and laid out.  The food was fantastic!  I really enjoyed their mixed green salad with raspberry vinaigrette.  I'm not a big salad eater but I went back for seconds.  Everything was very flavorful, hot, and appealing.  Good job and excellent, friendly service!  Thank you! Our experience with GR Catering was amazing.  They were so professional and truly exceeded our expectations!  The staff was great and worked hard to set up the buffet and make things perfect for our wedding.  The food was so delicious and all our wedding guests kept commenting on how tasty all the dishes were.  Gaby and Marty were a class act and worked so hard to make our wedding day memorable.  Not only did they provide linens, excellent food and service but they were able to get us the rentals we needed (like chairs and tables).  They were so quick to respond with proposals and make this entire process so easy and pleasant.  We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a spectacular caterer who offers great food and great prices! We have hired Marty and GR Catering to cater a large annual 4th of July party for the past 2 years. He is so professional and easy to work with and is very responsive when questions come up. The party is for about 80 people and each year we have had a different menu, both of which were delicious!! His team is friendly, efficient and so easy to work with. They are timely and set-up and break-down have been seamless. The buffet tables were set up beautifully and the food was displayed beautifully. Used them for a Hawaiian Luau and they were awesome!  They worked within our budget and the food was delicious.  Would definitely recommend to my friends.  However, if you have to deal with multiple people splitting the bill, make sure that you square that away before any payments are made.  Their system makes it a bit difficult to refund after the fact.  Other than that, no complaints!  Way to go. Marty, Gaby and crew provided a delicious buffet dinner for my daughter's wedding reception in August. They were very professional throughout the entire process, while planning the menu and consulting with us on our choices of dinnerware, glassware, etc. As it was a little overwhelming at times, planning a wedding for almost 200 people, Marty was always very helpful and courteous...and he returned my numerous phone calls and emails consistently, as well as answered all my questions on a timely basis. I have nothing but nice words to say about this company. I used them for the first time to cater a small event at the beach. Gaby was fantastic. She followed up with me on a few occasions to make sure we had our ducks in a row. I even had a few last minute items to add and she/they did not give me any kind of a hard time. I'm extremely happy with them!The day of the event Marty Jr. and Anthony were there on time, dressed professionally and quick with the setup and tare down. GR Catering did the BEST JOB EVER at our son's wedding reception this weekend. We had 175 people in our yard and ALL went away full & happy. We had a luau theme and GR provided exactly the right food. The staff is AWESOME ~ super professional and polite and lots of fun. This review is for their outstanding customer service. We didn't end up using them for our catering needs because we decided to do our reception at a hotel with their in-house chef but GR catering was so professional and expedient about getting back to me with my proposal that I feel very inclined to write this review. If you are on a budget, they can do it for you! You just tell them what your budget per person is and they will come up with something that meets your needs. We hired GR Catering for our wedding here in San Diego on 8/2/14 and were VERY pleased with our whole experience with them. We had 132 people and got rave reviews from our guests about the food and service! Marty and staff were very professional from the tasting we had months before to everything leading up to our big day. Communication was great and I had no trouble getting in contact with them in the weeks prior to our wedding to get any questions we had answered. It unexpectedly rained at our outdoor wedding (never happens in SD in August) and the catering staff was prepared and professional. They came early to set-up and start everything, and the food was delicious, not too heavy but still very filling. We had an amazing experience with GR catering recently for our wedding. We used GR Catering for our September wedding.  From the beginning Marty and Gaby were great to work with.  Emails and phone calls were responded to in a timely manner and Marty was always very cordial.  He recommended we do a 'vendor pow-wow' so he could meet all of our vendors before the wedding and get everyone on the same page as far as set up, events throughout the night, and timeline.  It was such a great recommendation that I would pass on to anyone who does not have a wedding planner!!  As with any wedding, we had a lot of changes/additions etc to our invoice throughout the process. I would have a corrected invoice with my requested changes in my hands typically within 1-2 days.  The day before the wedding I was slammed with things to do so I asked if I could deliver the beer/wine that we had purchased, to Marty's store front and have him delivery it to the venue with the rest of our food.  Marty doesn't normally do this but went out of his way (I imagine he could hear the desperation in my voice). This way we didn't have to ask a friend to do it the day of, or have to do it ourselves.  This took a huge weight off all of our shoulders.On our wedding day Marty made very sure my husband and I had food and drinks in our hand as soon as the ceremony ended and it was time to take photos.  He worked his butt off! The buffet set up looked great and our tables were simple but beautifully decorated as I had requested.  I even changed one of my colors from apple green to yellow at the last minute and trusted that Marty would pull through without my seeing the linen color.  It looked awesome.The food was very good.  We went with a Hawaiian theme and had pork, chicken, fish, Hawaiian macaroni salad, tropical salad, and Hawaiian rolls.  We were very happy with the food and heard from our guests the same!  I didn't get to try the desserts as we had a cake just for my husband and I but from what I hear, it was a hit.  The only minor thing was that Marty had forgotten we wanted coffee service so it was not listed on the final invoice and my mother's credit card had already been charged the balance due.  I had called Marty with a question the day before and he let me know the coffee situation and that he had added it to the invoice and charged my mother's credit card.  I'm sure it was an oversight given the hectic day leading up to it but she and I would have preferred if GR had called us to let us know the charge was going to be applied before applying it.All in all I was very happy with GR.  Our wedding day went off without a hitch (many said it was the best wedding they had been to!!).  I would definitely use them again and recommend them for a wedding or other big event.  Marty's patience and calm demeanor in addition to his solid recommendations made him very valuable to us.  Speaking of value, their overall prices were affordable! Our family of 30+ enjoyed an elegant picnic at de Anza Cove in Mission Bay Park.  The site was set up, white linen table cloths blowing in the wind under a gold tent, when we arrived.  The Hamburger and Hot Dog Lunch was perfect for the occasion.  Marty patiently took a family group photo with 4 iPhones  (panorama please) and one SLR.  Great food, great service, good people. I just want to post a shout-out to/for these folks. I've been helping my step-daughter to make plans for an upcoming wedding and it appears that we will be going with a venue that has its own caterer so we won't be using these folks, but, wow, if you ever need a caterer in any of the places these folks (Marty and Gaby Rascon) cover, I would hire them in a heartbeat. The prices are really reasonable, but, more importantly, they are a pleasure to work with. Marty answers his cell phone 24/7 and is happy to do whatever it takes to make your event successful. I hired GR Catering for my mom's 60th surprise birthday party. It was a Greek/ toga theme party, so I asked GR if they could do an authentic whole roast lamb. It turned out really tasty (stuffed with rosemary and whole garlic cloves) and added that extra wow factor to the party. They also provided rotisserie lemon chicken, amazing grilled veggies, crab pasta salad, and tabbouleh (which I requested in lieu of Greek salad.) All the food received the stamp of approval from a room full of picky Greeks, no easy task. All 40 people had more than enough to eat and I have lots of leftovers in the fridge. The chefs they sent over were very nice, accommodating, and experienced (and even offered to don an impromptu tablecloth toga to get in the spirit). I also rented tablecloths, tables, and chairs from them. The chairs were a smidgen dirty, but they wiped them down for me before the guests arrived. They also brought out a tent to provide a shady area to serve the food under, which i hadn't thought to include. I felt the price was fair considering the specialty nature of the request, and they gave me a military discount which negated the extra fee for driving all the way out to Alpine. In the very beginning, there was a little confusion about getting the contract signed and I was a bit nervous about paying the whole amount before the event, but everything turned out fine in the end. The owner did indicate that a tip would be expected, but only after the party was over. In my opinion, they really earned that tip. They were a little later than I thought, but the food was served on time and they were within their contractual obligations. We had a wonderful experience with GR Catering for my husband's 50th birthday Laua party - we had about 95 people and and the event was perfect ! This party was a last minute plan, I was unsure of the head count until the day before and Gaby and Marty pulled it off wonderfully.  They checked out our location a few days before the party, helped me figure out the best location in the yard for the food set up and arrived on time and ready when scheduled.  They brought great decorations - we had a 50th Tiki Torch Birthday themed event - and they dressed the table and stations elegantly.The on site grill was quite impressive and the guest felt that we had gone all out!  Marty helped design our menu of Kalaua Roasted Pork, Rotisserie Chicken, Island style rice, Hawaiian cole slaw, fresh fruit, rolls and vegetarian egg rolls - a perfect menu for the event.  Overall, our guest enjoyed the food tremendously, we heard rave review on the catering especially the Kalaua Pork and Rotisserie Chicken  (several guest said it was better than Phil's BBQ) we had plenty for all and it was perfect.  I would highly recommend this catering company.  Thank you Marty and Gaby ! Marty and Gaby are very customer focused. I was 4 weeks from my wedding and I feel very lucky to find them. They were professional and very responsive. I immediately did not feel as stressed because they gave me a quick quote and assured me they could do the job. Then i went for a tasting and was very impressed. They arrived on time and the food display was very nice. There was a mix up with the servers, but all in all it was not a big deal for me. After lot's of researching and tastings, I decided to go with GR Catering for my wedding because they had the best price for great mexican food.  I had a Spanish style wedding and requested that they just use black linen without the Mexican colors.  I also requested that they dont have sour cream or lettuce because I wanted it to be more authentic.  We had the fruit and crackers display for appetizers and it was beautiful! Since I am Mexican myself, I am picky with Mexican food, but honestly, the carne asada and pollo asado was amazing.  I had people raving about the food for a while after the wedding.  The only reason I gave them one less star is because they did arrive late so the reception started late and they were not willing to make aguas (fruit flavored water) instead of tea.  But other than that, I would highly recommend. Great food, great price, very friendly.  Made our reception party a fantastic casual outdoor event, no rubbery or dry chicken allowed! !!  The food was so good I know several guests that went back for 3rd and 4th servings, and we actually were looking forward to our leftovers, though with the way our guests filled up, there weren't that many, just the right amount actually.   The guacamole was wonderful, the chicken and tri-tip were great, and the warm penne primavera pasta (our vegetarian entree) was addictive!!  (can I have that recipe Marty?)
