For the past 5 plus years my husband and I take a Wednesday evening in December for the Dickens dinner. The lodging is half off that evening. We really like the cabins, and always take advantage of the hot tub on the private deck. Entree choices are either cornish Hens or a filet. We pay a few extra dollars for the filet, it's easier to eat! 6 PM is the cocktail hour before dinner. The Dickens tale is read aloud between courses. It's a lovely relaxed meal. Beautiful fireplaces are in many of the rooms enhancing the cozy atmosphere. In the morning is a huge breakfast, starting with homemade scones and jam is served. Afterwards there's time for hiking if you can spare the time. We've brought friends with us a couple times now, and they love it too! Oh, and there's a new and final Scotish Lard who holds the title of Earl, and has a castle back in Scotland! More...

My wife and I went here in early October for a weekend get away for our anniversary. We stayed in the MacDonald suite and could not have been more satisfied. Every detail in the room and around the property was well maintained and clean. Breakfast each morning was delicious and very filling. We did not arrive early enough for dinner on Friday night however we did opt for dinner in our room Saturday night. We were pleasantly surprised by our in room dinner we were expecting a to go box placed in the fridge with heating instructions, when we arrived back in our room on Saturday the table in our room was fully set with plates, silver ware, napkins and stem ware. As I mentioned we did arrive late on Friday but that wasn't an issue, late check in was super easy. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend. We will definitely be back. More...

We were able to get a reservation for a one night stay at this charming location about an hour drive from Columbus. We arrived around the 3:30 check in time and after getting settled into our cozy croft (a wee house) we decided to explore the trails that are on the property. Autumn afternoon, turning leaves, quiet of the forest... oh my! Then back to the croft to freshen up and dress for dinner. Shortly after six we made our way to the Manor House for a beverage in the pub and chatting with fellow lodgers. At seven the dinner is announced in the dining room. A delicious six course dinner followed! ||The next morning following a soak in our private hot tub we dressed and walked back to the Manor House for a delicious breakfast. We departed shortly before the 11:30 checkout vowing to return! More...

I wanted it to be special and choosing to stay at Glenlaurel was definitely the best choice!! We stayed in the MacDougal Croft and it was absolutely perfect. We enjoyed the hiking trails they have. The best part of the stay was the Social Hour in the Pub followed by a Six-Course Dinner. Every single course was delicious and we loved meeting the Chef! It was a peaceful and relaxing stay. We enjoyed the hot tub after dinner and listening to the rain storm in the screened porch. Really enjoyed the Scottish music they had playing in our cabin when we first walked in and the cute lanterns to walk around the grounds at dark! Only issue was with breakfast. This was our first time staying here so it would have been nice to be told when we sat down to get our own scones. Which I guess is a signal for them to give your porridge followed by asking you what you want for breakfast. Our server seemed annoyed when asked why we hadn’t gotten a scone yet & I said we didn't know how it worked since it was our first stay. We ordered Bloody Mary’s and it took 25 minutes to get it and by the time it came out it was warm with no ice. She kept saying it would be on its way but 25 minutes later drinks came and looked like it was sitting out for a while before given to us. I was looking forward to breakfast but would skip it next time or do the breakfast in our room for the extra fee. The ladies who check you in and out could be a tad bit nicer!! Especially for what you pay to stay here. We will definitely be back! Such a beautiful place! More...

We only stayed for one night here---in the Robertson Garrett Room. This Select Registry inn is a good place for those who want to get away from the rat race and technology---spotty or no cell reception, wifi, or TV (but you can look at DVD's on a screen in your room). Our king room was large and had a rustic feel. But it was kind of dark and showed a bit of age. The bathroom was quite small and akin to what you'd get in a 2-star motel. We've stayed in several Select Registry properties, and this room was not comparable to what you normally have in a Select inn. ||||There are a few activities you can do on the property, including an 8 hole links-style short golf course and a nice trail along a gorge starting at the back of the inn. All of the major points of interest (caves, cliffs, etc.) of the Hocking Hills are within 10-15 minutes of the inn. There is a bar in the same building as the restaurant, but it has limited hours. Staff at check-in were fine, but we thought they could be more welcoming (i.e.----a little more sociable than the normal business-like hotel check-in). The price of our room was what you would expect for this inn (and less expensive than most Select Registry properties). ||||Food service was the highlight of our stay. The 6-course dinner was very good and reasonably priced. They had a decent wine list. The bar is open for socializing an hour before the 7PM dinner seating time. The bar and dining staff were very friendly, and the chef came out to talk to the guests near the end of the meal. The free breakfast was out on a lovely patio, and the food choices and quality were also very good. Overall, we had a nice stay. If not for the food service, we might have been a little disappointed. We traveled over 4 hours to get to this resort and celebrate my wife's birthday ( can't say which one). We were greeted Nancy who was very polite and informative. Enjoyed talking to her for a few minutes. We went to our room ( McGregor) and needed help with all the light switches which we received from the executive chef, J-M. He was also very gracious and helpful. ||The pub is in the lower level ( rathskeller) and we started our celebration there prior to dinner. An announcement was proclaimed for dinner at 7:00 so we left and were escorted to our table. Our dinner of Salmon was preordered when reservations were made. The service was great. Dana and Melissa were attentive to our every wish and helped us make a wine selection as well. Dinner was fabulous. Our chef J-M visited us after dinner ( six course) and chatted with us for a few minutes. His full name is Jean-Michel Matos. Thank you J-M. ||Our breakfast the next morning was served by Jamie and she was excellent. The food again was fabulous. Thank you Rachel. ||I promised my wife that we would return and do this get-a-way again. More...

Luxury and culture brought together ! Loved every moment of the stay here, and lol there even was a bagpiper who kept playing some tunes for a long times through out the day, food was good, and for dinner reservations need to be made like 24 hours earlier. Rooms were kept at most tidy and clean. I have even realized that there is a small game(Easter egg kinda thing) where they hide a dollar bill any where in the room which you need to find. Lol, I didn’t find it. Only thing that sucks here is the WiFi, it’s way to weak and slow! More...

My husband and I visited Glen Laurel this past weekend for our anniversary. We were first time guests, but we will be returning for sure. The attention to detail was incredible. The grounds are just beautiful and our croft was perfect, with lots of little details and sweet touches. The hot tub was relaxing, but with the 100 degree weather, we did turn it down a bit. We had the 7 course dinner on Saturday, and the entire experience was outstanding, from the social hour where we met some lovely people, to the piper, to the food (which was indescribably delicious). Our server for dinner and for (the also unbelievably fabulous) breakfast was Jamie, and she went above and beyond in not only her service, but her attitude and personality. She made us feel so welcome, and we truly appreciated her. Glen Laurel, thank you for a weekend we will never forget! More...

I cannot say enough about the beautiful, romantic B&B. My husband and I stayed in one of the crofts for our anniversary and loved it. The private patio with a hot tub was delightful, the croft itself had just the right atmosphere, and the kitchenette allowed us to spend as much or as little time in our room as we desired. We were concerned about the lack of wifi, but it turned out to be a blessing to be able to really unplug for a while. The property offers dvds to borrow if you'd like to watch a movie. The property has a walking trail through a beautiful gorge area that is secluded, romantic, and does remind one of a Scottish glen. The breakfast every morning had scones and coffee/tea/juice. You could choose an egg dish or a "sweet" dish, so my husband and I split one of each, which was great for us. We dined one evening at the restaurant as well. Although the food was good, it was certainly overpriced for what you get. Then next time we stay here - and there will be a next time - we'll skip the dinner. If you're looking for a romantic getaway in Ohio, this is an amazing place to spend a few days getting away from it all. More...

We have visited this Inn numerous times over the past 10 years. The setting is idyllic, surrounded by forests and waterfalls. The cabins, where we usually stay, are sophisticated, tasteful and extremely comfortable. This time, we attended a 3-day seminar on Scotland. As in the past, the food was well prepared, presented artistically, and offered in 4-6 course dinners. Breakfast was also substantial, with a decent variety of choices. We stayed here for only one night and had our wedding ceremony in the main house. Although pricey, you should experience it at least once. Tracy went above and beyond to help us with accomodations prior to check in. From the beautiful music playing in our cabin as we walked in, to the personal touches they left for us to celebrate our day. The food was amazing. I want that Poblano soup recipe! We did the 7 course meal and the chef was great. Social hour from 6-7, bagpipes, a poem read to us and then the meal. We would have liked it to be a little shorter, however. We ended up leaving by 9:15 without getting our delicious looking dessert because we had been there for 2.5 + hours and were tired from our big day. Comfy King bed and we watched the sunrise from our hot tub looking out over the woods. We had both of the fireplaces going and it was very romantic. Great experience. My husband and I spent our honeymoon/1st year/2nd year anniversary here, booking the romantic spa interlude package. While we do feel that the price was a little high for the overall experience, we were satisfied with the scenic hills, the wonderful food, and pleasant staff. We knew there would be three roses and chocolates waiting for us in the room as part of the package, and we were super excited for them! Unfortunately, while the flowers were beautiful, there was only two pieces of chocolate. One was so full of rosemary that we couldn't eat it. The truffles were clearly handmade, and we suspect that if we purchased some different flavors that we would have been extremely satisfied, but the two little truffles and three roses was kind of a disappointment. But! They also left us a small present--a little plate to hang up with a Cardinal bird painted on it and the year of our honeymoon. This came with a handwritten note, and that made us feel special! There were little notes throughout that were humorous and clever, which we appreciated. The room was lovely, though we thought the decor was a little odd. It added a sort of home-done charm, but definitely wasn't a super modern, luxurious croft. As someone who studied literature extensively, it was humorous to see they misspelled a Scottish quote that was etched over the mantle of the Bruce West Croft. It was cute and cozy. Not exactly what we expected for the price, but we were happy nonetheless. The hiking is beautiful and easy to do. The staff was friendly. Again, a little too home-done instead of upscale. I suspect they wanted everyone to be more like a fancy Scottish butler to guests, but they just couldn't pull it off. It was charming though, and made everything feel more casual. We will be coming back again, though if we want a more posh, upscale location for the same price, we'll go elsewhere. But we loved the cozy charm and thought the food and staff are well worth a trip back! Basically, if it wasn't for the strange "trying to be upscale but not quite there" feeling, the disappointing and expensive chocolate/rose package, and the slight priciness, this would be 100% perfect! It seems they are still just trying to find their niche and what works, but they certainly have the basics down (like the food), and it showed! Thank you Glen Laurel! We'll see you later! More...

We booked a lovely weekend away at Glenlaurel for our 10-year anniversary. It was perfect! We were truly treated like royalty. The 6 course and 7 course dinners on both Friday and Saturday nights, respectively, were divine. Breakfasts were equally as delicious. Staff was warm, kind, and unpretentious, but went and beyond to make us feel cared for. For example, when we asked to switch our Saturday picnic lunch to Sunday instead, the staff not only obliged, but the chef hand-delivered it to us. My husband and I enjoyed the local trails (Ash Cave a must), Hockey Hills winery, the on-site Scottish golf course (be prepared for some laughs and lost balls), and some awesome ziplining at Canopy Tours. At the end of the day, we went to bed with full bellies, grateful hearts, and the best memories on a terrifically comfortable bed. Wish we could stay for another few days --- but we'll be back! My husband surprised me Christmas morning with a weekend stay in the Sinclair Croft. We went in February and enjoyed a fresh snowfall on departure day. It was beyond beautiful and so peaceful. From the many birds that graced the window at breakfast to the incredible flavors at dinner - we felt truly pampered and connected. ||||The croft itself was so inviting, clean, and functional. We parked right in front - so convenient. The gas fireplace was such that we could enjoy it from the living area and the bedroom. We enjoyed some tunes through the speakers while primping for dinner. Brought a few movies from home to watch during down time. Prepared drinks and snacks in the adorable kitchen area. Gazed at the stars from the hot tub before retreating to bed both nights. So relaxing...||||Our package included an in-suite couples massage. The massage therapists are contracted by Glenlaurel - be sure to bring cash for tipping if you're not comfortable with pay apps. They were delayed but called to inform us - totally understandable. The massage felt amazing and the ladies were very nice.||||We had dinner both Friday and Saturday at the Inn onsite, including cocktail hour where we met some interesting people from all over Ohio. The flavors of our courses were incredible and (for the most part), the food was prepared to perfection. My steak filet on Saturday was quite overcooked. Sadly, there was not an extra steak to correct the issue. The server was so apologetic, as was the young chef. An adjustment on our bill was promised but when my husband checked out, he felt uncomfortable asking about it.||||Despite the issue at dinner, the visit was simply wonderful. We highly recommend a winter walk on the property if you are able. Because the trails were snow covered, I believe we veered off track when we went left (we saw some old bed springs in the woods?). So we backtracked and went right to see the waterfall and sit on the bench swing for a while. Looking forward to visiting for all four seasons. Such a treat! More...

My husband and I, newly weds, are spending 4 nights in the Glen Laurel Scottish Inn. It’s tucked away in the southeast corner of Ohio’s Hocking Hills area. The countryside is ready to burst with Fall color and winding country roads are punctuated with large farms. The Inn is quaint and beautifully attired. Hiking trails run along a gorge with places along the way to picnic or sit to enjoy Nature and a beautiful creek with trickling waterfalls. A golf course, bocci ball, fire pit, corn hole and rock climbing are a few of the things available to do. There is a five star Restaurant on site in the Manor house. The seven course meals are created by an on site chef and are excellent. The staff is courteous and poetry is read each evening during dinner. Scottish, of course. Scottish music plays in the background. Dinner guest interact during cocktail hour with appetizers before the dinner hour. If you want to rest and rejuvenate with good wine, a private hot tub in your room and a good book, Glen Laurel is the place to do it.||Happy Days. More...

My daughter and husband gave us this get away to Glen Laurel. They love it there and have gone various times. Being our 1st time, it did not disappoint. We stayed in the Manor in what was referred to as the "new room." It very obviously had just been remodeled and was beautiful. Very open and spacious with a view of the woods. The bathroom was almost the size of a regular room and featured a walk in shower and a claw foot tub. The only disappointment was the golf course wasn't open, and living only a couple hours away, we knew there had been a lot of rain in this whole area. Hopefully, next time... Service is outstanding. The staff go over and beyond to see that your every wish is taken care of. The food is outstanding. Breakfast starts the day out right, especially the cinnamon and brown sugar scones. We would split one because we wanted to leave room for the rest of the beautifully prepared breakfast. This is an easy drive from the northern Kentucky area through the lovely country side. Can you tell we liked and thoroughly enjoyed our visit? More...

We returned to Glenlaurel for our anniversary again this year. It is a perfect anniversary retreat. Our suite was quaint, spacious and quiet. The inn provided little notes and an anniversary ornament to help us celebrate and feel welcome.||The inn itself would be a worth while visit, but the surrounding area is good to visit also. Hocking Hills area has multiple hiking trails with all levels of exertion in addition to the trails on the Glenlaurel property.||Our dinner was exceptionally good. The first course scallop dish was one of the best we have had in a long time. The staff was pleasant and genuinely seemed to be glad to have you a a guest.||The only non perfect thing was, as a previous reviewer noted, the water in the jacuzzi tub was brownish colored. We used it anyhow. The staff had provided plenty of bottled water for drinking, teeth brushing.||Looking forward to a return visit. More...

Very nice place for a romantic few days. We went here for our 8th anniversary and had a wonderful stay + a really great dinner. The croft we stayed in was just the right size and the hot tub was very relaxing. Know that if you are addicted to the internet or social media, the cottages and crofts have no wifi. The Manor House and stable/reception, however, do have wifi. There are nice trails on either side of the gorge for hiking. I have no doubt that we will return! More...

I proposed to my girlfriend at Glenlaurel and could not have chosen a better place! The staff are beyond accommodating, the facilities and lodging are first class, the location, scenery and hiking redefine relaxing, and then of course, the biggest draw in our opinion, the food. 6 and 7 course meals that are imagined and created daily by their staff of 3 executive chefs, who all, by the way, come out to greet you personally during and after the meals. By far the best culinary experience of our lives! Such an intimate setting and a must if you're looking for a romantic get-a-way. We will be back! More...

Just returned home from another amazing two days and nights at Glen Laurel Scottish Inn and Cottages! This place is magical and will draw you in and have you coming back year after year! We have been coming since 2006 and have never had a poor experience! However, the current staff with Richard at the helm as “Laird of the Manor”, Chef JM preparing exquisite meals, Serena, Jamie, Becky (just to name a few) as the helpful staff, Brenna, Sharon and Erica behind the desk, and all others..... are making this time and season at GL one of the most special times we have experienced in our 12 years! There's not much time and Marley is still dragging his chains. Before the last ghost appears I'd venture you need to get in your 6-8 cylinder carriage and make your way to Glenlaurel. What a fun evening. We had delicious quail, will the standard multiple courses which match beautifully. The chef is the Leonardo of food prep. To top it off we ventured up the hollow and on our way back saw 6-8 deer on a ridge overlooking us. One stopped for a photo shoot. Typical of Glenlaurel hospitality. Basics: Following our "quick & simple" online reservation not only did we instantaneously receive the confirmation email, but also a personal phone call regarding our accomodation details, personal preferences, driving instructions as well as our dining options. Such a warm gesture is followed up by the geniune hospitality shown especially by the on-site manager, a congenial host and a perfect local guide, who creates the opportunity to welcome you. ||Location: Glenlaurel Inn is a chic accomodation option nestled in a private forest habitat away from the hustle and bustle, easily accessable via both routes; SR 180 or SR 678. ||The Room: The MacDonald Suite is located in the upper floor of the Manor House with a southerly view. The rooms (living area and bedroom) are very airy with lots of natural light, and most importantly immaculately clean (being a grumpy peculiar old fellow I have checked the ventilation grills, picture frame corners and even under the bed/ sofas.) The bedroom has a crisp decor and is well appointed with a comfortable queen size bed. The immaculately clean modern bathroom, with a supply of "L'Occitane" brand toiletries, has a jacuzzi overlooking the woods with an inspirational view. The living area with its "silent" mini-refrigerator, microwave, coffemaker, comfortable sofa, and fireplace welcomes you with Celtic music creates a relaxing atmosphere.||Breakfast: During our two-day stay a gourmet multicourse breakfast was served in a white-tablecloth restaurant environment.||Dining: Being on vacation we chose to have "a la carte" options in the Cedar Falls Inn Restaurant (the only other fine-dining establishment alternative) rather than the traditional fix menu offered on-site.||Minor hiccups: The 30 ml/1fl.oz toiletries (neither shampoo or conditioner) was not renewed the second day. But a short walk to the reception quckly solved the problem. And if we had stayed for a third consecutive breakfast, I would gladly wish Goldilocks to have the porridge eaten.||In short, for a couple escaping from Cincinnati, the relaxing MacDonald Suite (Room 301) with its inspirational view, and Glenlaurel Inn with its fantastic hospitality outstandingly executated by its professional manager on-site, was a perfect place for rejuvenation, invigoration. We splurged on the Friday night dinner and would recommend it. Chef was witty, friendly and an extremely talented chef. Breakfast was also incredible- amazing scones. My wife and I needed a close (to Columbus) but romantic getaway for our anniversary. Glenlaurel was the perfect answer. The drive is a short hour from the city and Glenlaurel is 5-15 minutes from the main caves/falls (Old Man's Cave, Cedar Falls, Ash Falls, Cantwell Cliffs) in the Hocking Hills area. ||||Staff: I'd like to start with the staff because I feel like so much of what you're hoping for when you get away like this is genuine, friendly, and thoughtful service. Sure, there are other things you might want too, but I think this ranks at the top and the team at Glenlaurel is fantastic. Special thank you to Richard, Jean Michel ("JM"), Jamie and Eli. ||||Room Accommodations: we spent one night at the Elliot croft, which was one of the closer units to the main buildings. It was easily walk-able to-from breakfast, but we recommend not walking in nice dress shoes or heels. The croft had been recently upgraded (new floors, new furniture). The croft was very comfortable and spacious. The bed was comfortable (though we advise bringing your own pillow if you're picky like we are). The hot tub was ready to go on arrival. The ceiling fans are a great amenity. We also loved having a small fridge/freezer to keep our beverages cold between hikes. If you need ice, grab a few bags after checking-in. And yes, our room was spotless on arrival. Unlike another poster, I happened to enjoy the coffee.... and I liked sleeping in until almost 8am too. ||||Food/beverage: This is out of order, but I'm going to start with Breakfast anyway (because everyone who stays gets breakfast). Breakfast on the deck of the main house was a 3-course meal in the form of a scone, porridge/oatmeal, and a choice of entree. The starters were delish and my Italian omelet was fantastic. My wife went with the strawberry stuffed French Toast which made me feel like I needed to step up my French Toast game at home. We also were served sides of fresh fruit and offered a variety juices (adult-options included). We opted for the six-course dinner and it did not disappoint at any level. I won't list the plates/dishes, but I'll just say that each was delicious, perfectly plated and presented with 5-star flavor. The service was fluid and prompt and every dish was one-up'd by the next one. It was extremely hard to pick a favorite. Also, the guest dress code is supposed to be semi-formal/formal, and if you never get a chance to dress up together, this is the ideal spot to do so. ||||Activities: sadly we didn't stay long enough to play a round of Scottish golf or find our way to the bocce ball or croquet court, but we did hike two paths on site and enjoyed about an hour by the firepit under the star-lit (and planet adorned) sky. We also hiked on two of the paths on-site. One of them was a little confusing (got turned-around twice) but made for a fun adventure. Have fun finding & walking by the gnome who's more than happy to make you laugh.||||Also: As many others have stated, we were also staying to celebrate our anniversary and received a memento in the form of pottery as part of our stay. Now that we're in the club, it's hard to say that we won't be back to celebrate again. ||||We highly recommend Glenlaurel and can't wait to go back. More...

We had one of the best meals of our lives here -- the six course dinner was perfection. We choose our entrees when we made our dinner reservation. Starting with the social hour before dinner - we enjoyed talking to Jamie while having a glass of excellent wine with delicious St Andre and Stilton cheeses. We were seated and provided a personalized menu so we could follow along as the courses were served. The appetizer was a scallop in puff pastry, and was perfect - hot, very fresh, and melted in our mouths. The soup was a smoky tomato bisque - flavorful and satisfying. The salad included diced pickled apples - unique and a good addition to the salad. We selected the steak and pork for our main course, which each had a delicious sauce and were accompanied by potatoes mashed with apples and a touch of horseradish, and asparagus. Dessert was a bourbon creme brulee - what could be better |The service was perfect, and the food superb. We will be back ! More...

A one night getaway. Stayed in MacDougal and ate the dinner onsite. Cottage was great overall: clean, comfortable, lots of space. The hot tub was great - made for two. HIking on grounds was great, lots of good sights, well worth the effort. A few minor points: Coffee maker was small and was stocked with cheap coffee packets that made weak brew. Like lingering in your own room over great coffee in the morning watching the woods for signs of life -- not possible. The shower pressure was weak and it had trouble getting up to the level of hot I like. The fridge was short on ice -but could get more from the main building. Although the general feel was one of privacy, it also seemed like some windows lacked curtains. There was a CD/DVD player -- but the CD provided were weak, and the DVD selection available was mostly Blockbuster leftovers. More...

I knew nothing about this place until I checked trip advisor and decided to give it a try for a dinner reservation. We were staying at a different location, but since I’m the “trip planner” for the two of us, I booked this as a surprise for my hubby. What a great time. This place is gorgeous. The ambiance is romantic and the folks genuine. We were greeted pleasantly by staff at the entrance of this B and B, ordered a drink and were ushered downstairs for our six course “social hour”. There were probably 5 couples in our booking and conversation flowed well over Brie and crackers. We were then escorted upstairs to our dining area where an Irish poem was read before dinner. We have been going to Glenlaurel for years on our wedding anniversary in late fall and even though the facility has grown since our first visit when only the manor house was there, we still enjoy staying in one of the manor house rooms. The ambiance and celtic overtones are still there and we love the property and the gorge. Food is always excellent and the pub is a great place to make new friends before dinner. The rooms are very nicely decorated and the only issues we had was that the room temp was a bit cool with no way bump the thermostat, but the fireplace easily compensated this. My husband and I were looking for a relaxing getaway location to celebrate our 17th anniversary. He actually stumbled across Glenlaurel when doing a search online. After reading the fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor, we decided to book our stay. We chose to stay in the Cambell Suite in the Manor House. The room was generously sized, complete with a beautiful view. The staff is so friendly and seem to really care about each guest! I especially loved seeing the same cheerful, friendly faces at each of our meals! The food is incredible! Our three-course breakfasts were delicious. It always began with a scone, followed by delicious porridge and our choice of entree. Breakfast was so filling, we hardly felt hungry for lunch. Friday night we splurged on the six-course dinner. To be honest, I was a bit nervous because I'm gluten free and I had a hard time believing my dinner would be up to the same high caliber as a "normal" dinner. I needed not worry one bit! I didn't feel like my dinner was any less than superb! There was no question that the chef was incredibly skilled, as the flavors in each course combined to perfection. It was so amazing that I think we'll try to splurge on two dinners on our next visit! (And there will certainly be a next visit!) As far as room choice, I can't imagine there is a bad room here! We loved our stay in the Campbell, but would like to try a croft next time. (There is a porch outside the Campbell that is connected to a porch available to other guests. The windows also overlook a patio area with a firepit. Since it was pretty cold outside nobody lingered in either of those areas, but I could see how some guests might prefer to have a more secluded room, as you'd overhear social gatherings outside your room in warmer months). My wife and i wanted to get away, but a flight to a warm climate was not an option. So, we drove to Hocking Hills. Knowing my DW does not like to hike or really be outdoors, i needed a romantic place where we could do as little or as much as we wanted. We found it at Glenlaurel!!! ||||It is out of the way, but easy to find. You pull up to the main house and you are greated and checked in quickly. We stayed at the Muir cottage which had a nice family room area, small kitchenette and the bedroom. When you arrive, soft music is already playing. With the push of a button, the 2 fire places start right up. Out back is a very private deck with a hot tub. Everything is very nice, but over the top. It is a rustic setting, so it fits in perfect.||||Included in your room is breakfast in the main manor house. This was great. I have never had porridge for breakfast before. I love it now; or at least how they make it. The rest of breakfast (two options was great). The service was wonderful.||||Dinner (compared to the room) was over the top. The dinner is optional ($59 Saturday & $49 other days). It is started in the bar area of the manor house. They do charge for cocktails, but have free appetizers. We had some nice conversation with others while we waited for dinner. The dinner itself both nights was oustanding. They bring it in 6-7 different courses and you are going to be stuffed if you eat it all. The wine selection was nice as well. The general manager and chef made themselves available and added a nice touch. ||||there are limited number of cabins/rooms available. The whole place is quite and private. It was exactly what i was looking for and we really enjoyed it. I would not want to spend a week, but the weekend in the winter was perfect. This would rank as an expensive weekend. The room are +/- $300/night plus dinner (dinner is optional). If you venture out for meals, there is not a great deal around the area except some chains. I am glad we did both dinners at Glenlaurel. ||||Thank you Glenlaurel for having us this winter. This will be on our list for next year. More...

I surprised my wife with a two night stay after spending a hurried weekend graduating our youngest daughter. ||||As I am a contractor working in Europe for our government, this was a time for my wife and I to reconnect and enjoy ourselves and reflect on becoming empty nesters. ||||What a great experience. It was quite, romantic, and all accommodations were exceptional. We stayed at the Elliot Croft as my wife's step grandfather was an Elliot.||I also chose Glenlaurel, as we have been to Scotland and was excited to find a piece of it in our own backyard. ||||The dinning experience alone was worth the trip. Two nights of 6 course dinners, timed to allow you to experience and reflect on each dish was sublime. I have traveled the globe and have experienced many wonderful dinners, however none compare to the meals that Chef J.M. prepared. Each unique flavor allowed our taste buds to travel to different areas of the globe again providing us a chance to try new and old dishes. It even offered my wife the chance to try seafood, which she never does. Well done J.M. ||||The Elliot Croft was exceptionally quite and inviting. My wife and I enjoyed the seclusion. It allowed us to reconnect and reflect on our 23 years of marriage as well as what the future holds for us as empty nesters. I am so looking forward to another 23+ years. ||||Above all I am looking forward to our next visit for our 25th wedding anniversary.||||There is only one drawback to this place - We didn't stay long enough. ||||Warmest Regards,||David and Colleen (22-24May2017) More...

Reading some of the negative reviews on here, you should take them with a grain of salt. Nowhere you can stay, no matter what the price, is going to be perfect. This place is very nice. If you want to sit and watch TV or spend your day on the internet, this isn't for you. We stayed in Macbeth. The room was very nice, the couch could have been a little more comfortable but it went with the decor. You can gets as many DVD's at the front desk if you wish to watch movies. There is no broadcast TV! The stereo had indoor and outdoor speakers. So you can play music and sit in the nice hot tub on the deck. The deck is enclosed so you do not have to worry about your privacy being violated unless a giraffe wanders by(see my my tip at the end of this review!) || Service was very good. I am not a golfer but the Scottish course surrounding the property looked fantastic. Employees keep the grounds in excellent shape. Cleaning crew tidies up each day and sanitizes the hot tub. There are gratuities added automatically for the cleaning crew and the breakfast waitresses.|| Breakfast was top notch and a little different for me as I am usually just a plain breakfast guy. Don't be afraid to try something a little different. The weather was nice so they sat us outside on the deck.|| We stayed here 3 nights and did dine here on Friday evening. a six course meal. We were celebrating our anniversary so we did decide to splurge one night. You can go to social hour before the meal. The alcoholic drinks are added onto your bill of course. No reason to think they just give them away. Not sure why anyone would think it's a free for all. As long as you are prepared for your bill, you shouldn't have any problems. Normally we don't spend this kind of money for a meal. I was pretty much expecting a $200 meal and it wasn't that far off. We each had 3 drinks and a nice 6 course meal. My wife loved every bit of it. I was stuffed. I can normally put away a few plates of food, but after the 6th course, I was very full. Every couple has their own candlelit table for two. We did not feel neglected in any way. You should plan on dressing up a bit for this event. No need for a tie on Fridays. But dress accordingly for the experience.|| They do have hiking trails on the property and many places in the area to do some excellent hiking. also many ziplines nearby. || This was a great getaway for us. Not cheap, but sometimes you just have to splurge a bit. Front desk staff was great. Breakfast waitress Jaimey(I hope I spelled that correctly) was outstanding and lots of fun. || Don't be afraid to give this place a try. And don't expect perfection or something for nothing! Just enjoy your stay. And golfers, you got to try that Scottish golf course. They also have an area for Bocce and croquet. || Also, the most important tip if you stay. Read the "rule" book in the cottages. It is full of helpful information and whoever wrote it had a fantastic sense of humor. Everything you need to know is there and every place, whether it is a Motel 6 or the Grand Hotel should have such a book. Awesome!|| Also it is smoke free unless you smoke in your car. We don't smoke so we loved that rule! More...

My husband and I decided to take a quick getaway to celebrate his birthday. I had never heard of the inn and wasn't sure what to expect so we booked a room in the manor house. Our room was lovely and the manor house was so quaint and nicely decorated, the Scottish art and detail in all of the furnishings was tasteful and definitely not "gimmicky". I immediately fell in love with the place and the surroundings. Our breakfast was amazing and the staff and inn keeper were very accommodating and friendly. We spent the day exploring the property and hiking in the state parks. We were so lucky to have such great weather in February! We enjoyed the 6 course dinner on Friday evening - amazingly well done. We enjoyed every bite. The next morning as we were checking out we were encouraged to check out a croft to see what they look like. We will be back in the fall and are looking forward to staying in a croft. Definitely a quiet, restful and romantic getaway!! More...

Relaxing getaway to a charming and quaint Scottish Inn! First time experience and will definitely come back. Our room was beautifully decorated (and very clean) and upon entering our room, we were greeted with softly-playing celtic music. Which set the mood for our stay. The grounds were very peaceful and tranquil with scenic trails.| We were pleased with everything. The room was very clean and very homie. A very relaxing and comfortable feeling. Our restroom was very clean and nicely outfitted (shower, hot tub, bidet).| The food was very good. Breakfast was very good and you didn't leave hungry. Dinner was off the charts! Yes, it was expensive, but well worth it! The chef even made his rounds to each table to make sure everyone was happy. We enjoyed getting to chat with him. JM was our chef and we want to thank him again for our great meal! Thanks JM! | The atmosphere was quiet and low keyed. Which was very relaxing. This is not a "resort". It's a Scottish Inn. So, no kids and no drunks. Relaxation is the key here.| The grounds and the manor house are beautiful. Inside the manor house you will be transported to a different time and place. Is awesome. | Last but not least. The staff! Everyone was very nice and helpful. Professional and courteous. Thank you ladies! | More...

I took my wife here for a long weekend after she finished her Doctorate. This was our first time at Glenlaurel and to say the least we were very impressed. The grounds are majestic with all the floral plants and bushes surrounding the spectacular Inn and sitting areas. It is a prestine look with a calming effect for the guests. Our room was the MacKenzie Royal Suite and everything from the decorations to the furniture was first class. I wore my kilt to the 6 course dinner on Friday night which got me a free Scotch before dinner. The dinner, the staff, and the scotch were all top shelf! They really go out of their way to make everything perfect for their guests. A special shout out to Rick the Inn Keeper. He is a great guy with an eye for details and personnel touch. There are so many things I could write about Glenlaurel, but none truly do it or the staff justice! From the minute I booked our reservation on Tuesday until our arrival on Saturday, the staff maintained excellent contact with me to assure that our every wish was fulfilled! From wine and chocolate strawberries when we arrived at our room to a personal dinner plan and there were so many other options, I was just amazed! My boyfriend and I immediately took to walking the paths and visiting the gorge, along with finding a secluded swing for two, and the scenery was so breathtaking! There was a social hour at 6 where we met other guests and then dinner at 7pm. We didn't have the proper attire so we sat in the Pub and were attended to so graciously by the staff that we had the room to ourselves! The food was amazing! Everything we planned and went to had personalized cards for us, even one on the floor by the bed saying it was boogeyman-free! My boyfriend and I have so precious little time together, we needed this break and I cannot say I could have ever found a more beautiful place for he and I to reconnect and recommit to each other. Give Glenlaurel a visit, there's no way you could EVER be disappointed! We are already looking forward to a return visit very soon!! More...

We had a wonderful, romantic two nights stay for our honeymoon. The Douglas suite was very comfortable and had plenty of space for the two of us. We enjoyed having the Jacuzzi in our room and also opted for an in-house couples massage! Unfortunately, the dining room was under construction during our stay so we were not able to experience the dining room meals or the breakfast. We did have a meal delivered to the room one evening. The Shepherds Pie was very tasty, perhaps a little too costly though. Because the usual breakfast was not an option we opted to have the continental breakfast and I would NOT recommend this. It consisted of store bought muffins & pastries, a tiny amount of yogurt/granola, English muffins and juice. You do not get to choose what you get and there is only one of each thing so you have to fight over it :) I was also shocked to see that they charged us a $5 delivery fee even though we had no other option with the dining room being closed. Other than the disappointing continental breakfast we were very pleased with our stay and intend to go back for our one year anniversary. It rained the entire weekend so we can not comment on the property or trails since we were not able to experience them. More...

This place was really wonderful. My wife and I stayed here for her birthday, and it was truly perfect. After a nice day of hiking around Hocking Hills, we arrived at Glenlaurel. We got there in the late afternoon, so we had enough time to hike the private trail on their property. Even after having gone to Old Man's Cave and Cedar Falls, their trail was still a blast. It was much more private, and it allowed for a more personal walk with my wife.||||Then we went back to the cottage. It was great! There was Scottish music on to welcome us back, and the food was delicious (we got the lasagna right in the cottage and it was very tasty!). When we go back again, we'll probably do the full dining experience, though the eat-in option was just what the doctor ordered.||||In the morning, there was a delicious breakfast - I couldn't stop eating the scones. The property was beautiful, the ambiance was perfect, the staff was super kind and helpful, and overall it was seriously just perfect to get away from the kids for a couple days.||||Keep up the good work! My husband and I work very hard all week and we have 4 children. You can imagine how tired and stressed we can get.||This is the second time we go to Glenlaurel for a weekend getaway. The place is absolutely gorgeous and secluded. Everybody treated us like kings. The first time we stayed at the Gordon and now we stayed at the Douglas. We bought a couples massage for the day we arrived. The massage was in the privacy of our own suite, with Celtic music in the background.... COMPLETE relaxation! That night we stayed in our room and had dinner in our room in front of the fireplace after we went for a stroll through the woods. The second day we visited the beautiful sights, Ash Cave is our favorite: easy to walk all the way to the cave and the falls. We came back to our room and got all dressed up for the 7 course dinner. There is a social hour before dinner. We enjoyed a glass of wine and got to meet some of the other guests while the pipes were playing in the background. The dinner was so fancy and exquisite. My wife and I have stayed at Glenlaurel every year at least once, for the past twenty years. We usually stay in one of the cottages. This is in beautiful Hocking County and close to lots of hiking, which we like. We have been through four changes in management, but the quality of the lodgings and food has remained high the entire time. The dinners are good and the breakfast is always great. No TV, but they do have a DVD/CD player in the rooms and we always bring CD's to play. A Hot Tub on the back deck overlooking the forest is perfect, (especially in the winter). We stayed at Glenlaurel during the first week of October to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary. For past anniversaries, we've stayed at cabins in the Holmes County area of Ohio but decided to spend some time in Hocking Hills for a change. Made our reservations at the last minute and were very pleased to find availability during this week because the rest of the month was completely boo ked. We stayed in the Sinclair croft, picking it over others for its warm, inviting color scheme. We ordered a dinner brought to our croft that night and it was very relaxing. The hot tub on the enclosed porch was most enjoyable after a day of traveling in the car. Others have commented on the darkness of the bedroom in this particular croft but it did not create any problems for us. There are a few steps to walk down from where the car is parked, however, the path is gravel and helps with managing them in wet weather. We knew that internet service would be spotty (this was noted in the reservation details in our confirmation email) but we were prepared with books to read. It was nice to be disconnected from the craziness on the news for a few days. Our first full day, we enjoyed visiting the tourist attractions in the area, from Ash Cave, to Cedar Falls, and Old Man Cave. The second day was rainy so we just stayed in an enjoyed the peace and quiet to read and spend quality time together. Hiked along the property trails later that afternoon when the rain subsided and was quite impressed with the gorge trail and overlook areas where one can just set and enjoy the view. Definitely recommend spending time walking these trails as they are just as nice as the ones in the state parks. We celebrated our anniversary evening with the 6 course dinner following the happy hour at the bar. It was nice to have to dress up a little for dinner - made it seem more special. The food was excellent and the staff made special accommodations for our vegetarian needs even though that night they were serving beef. We met some very nice people at the happy hour. The breakfast each morning was good and the waitress (Jaimie) was very friendly, professional and efficient. ||||Only complaint we had was the constant traffic on the road outside our croft. Seems there was a great deal of yard work being done at the cottages down the road from us. Trucks and vans were going by all day long the day it rained. ||||Comparing this stay with another Select Registry (The Inn at Honey Run), I would say that our experience was very comparable and the prices are about the same, but we preferred Glenlaurel because they offer more crofts/cottages with private hot tubs and the inn is closer to more things to do during the day. We definitely plan to return again for another anniversary in the future but will choose a croft towards the back of the property for more quiet. More...

This getaway is located close to Hocking hills state park and is located in a beautiful wooded area. They only have about 20 private cottages and a few rooms in the manor all with a Scottish flair. They think of just about everything you need including putting roses in our room, cookies and nice touches. You can eat all your meals at the manor if you desire. We ate breakfast each morning which was freshly prepared including fruit, porridge, fresh scones, coffee, juice and a choice of freshly made eggs, French toast or. Yogurt parfait. All was delicious. They will prepare you a picnic lunch and deliver it to your room and dinner is a five or six course meal which you pick the main entree ahead of time. We ate two dinners there which were both very delicious! The only complaint we had was the mattress in the room was showing a little wear and could be replaced to make it more comfortable. To spend the second week of October in Glenlaurel, is one that you should not cheat yourself out of. That time of the year is very special to us as it sees our anniversary and a return to Glenlaurel. It really does not matter what type of weather falls on you, you will be spoiled , catered, and pampered by the chef & staff. Accommodations are on a scale second to no one, clean, crisp and every detail attended to. The only drawback to staying at Glenlaurel is that, eventually, you have to leave. The fall colors were changing rapidly and we literally planned the trip the day before. I found Glenlaurel through TripAdvisor, of course, and it did not disappoint. If I had taken the time to read more of the reviews I would have realized that this was more than a pit stop on a leaf peeping tour. Truly a remarkable destination. Tucked away on the outskirts of Hocking Hills, Glenlaurel is designed like a Scottish Highlands inn right down to the links type par three course at the entrance to the grounds. The buildings are all designed in a Scottish Tudor style including all the small cabins around the grounds. We stayed in the main building which was fine. On the next visit, I will splurge and stay in one of the cabins with private hot tub outside. We walked the grounds before dinner. Trails behind the lodge lead to a magical forest. ||||Dinner is an amazing experience. Starts with a cocktail hour downstairs in the pub. Cozy environment with a nice fireplace. Wonderful opportunity to meet other guests. The dinner was a six course extravaganza. Fixed meal with opportunities to adjust for allergy or preference issues. We had the salmon for an entree. As I understand it, each night is generally a different type of entree. Started was a brie stuffed pastry, followed by a squash soup, then salad. Small scoop of palette cleanser sorbet before the entree. Finishing touch was a small creme brûlée. Over the top meal.||||Not cheap, but worth every penny. The location was quiet and beautiful. The breakfast and dinner are served at very strict times but its worth it because the food is amazing. When we arrived they even had a small gift waiting in our room for us to celebrate our anniversary. I will definitely be coming back. More...

I've been going to Glenlaurel since 2005 at least once every year. A great place for an anniversary! Truly a retreat where I can really forget about the daily grind I'm leaving behind. The cottages with hot tubs never disappoint, and the view of the stars at night is one of the best in Ohio. They go out of their way to attend to every detail, including accommodating dietary restrictions in the dining room. The 7-course, formal Saturday evening dinner with bagpipes is a memorable treat. Their private gorge is a wonderful area for hiking, birding and being immersed into nature without the crowds. More...

Wonderful. The grounds, the cottages, the staff, the food, the private hikes - everything was just fantastic. What a rejuvenating experience! We will undoubtedly return.

Best weekend ever! Lovely hiking trails, rooms are beautiful, and the food- superb. Though I must warn that a seven course meal proved almost exhausting for my wife and I. Exhausting, but delicious.

Beautiful place to rest and enjoy life. Amazing food with 6 to 7 courses. I do not recommend Douglas Suit because It is like staying at a regular hotel. Better to invest in a full cabin.

My wife and I just had an incredible weddingmoon at Glen Laurel. We absolutely loved it and the tranquility of the setting. The staff was great and cleared off different areas for us outside for photos for our wedding. The food was great and we will be returning again next year in a different season. If you are looking for a great quiet get away and unplug from everything, this is the place to go. More...

Glenlaurel is such a special place. We love the room - Campbell is our choice, the food, the hiking, and the before dinner get together. It is such a relaxing weekend get away. We strayed once and never again! More...

We just celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary at Glenlaurel, and it was absolutely magical. Everything from the drive up to the Manor House, our cottage accommodations (we stayed in the MacLeod) , the amazing breakfast each morning, the seven course dinner on Saturday night, and the Sunday night bonfire while watching the sun set. And, as always, the service was over the top. We've commented with each stay at Glenlaurel, there's always the feeling of "coming home". We're already "homesick" and can't wait to return. More...

Glenlaurel is a truly special place. I stayed there for two nights about a year ago. I hiked the trails, relaxed in my room and enjoyed two of the best gourmet lunches and dinners. Everyone at the Inn was so kind and accommodating. The only bad part of my trip was having to leave. If you're looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway, then this place is perfect! More...
