As a longtime Bien Trucha regular reading the reviews i feel a need to clarify a few misconceptions and critiques of the restaurant. * First and Foremost, ALL THE TABLES ARE THE SAME SIZE they are usually plated for 2 as that is the most common size group eating, a single table can be sat for up to 4 people, any parties over 4 will get an extra table to accommodate the extra people. So before you ask, there isn't a bigger table to give you* Second, the restaurant is designed around the idea of COMMUNITY, the tables and overall small layout of the restaurant is by no means a money making ploy, but rather a way to promote the idea of community dining, and sharing an experience with those around you. * Third, everything is meant to be shared (there's a trend here), it will make your dining experience vastly better if you participate in this, don't view your order as YOUR order,  sharing an order of tacos with those who you are eating with will allow you to try a little bit of everything, and as everything is made to order certain items will come out faster than others, and sharing won't leave anyone taco-less waiting for their order to arrive. Lastly I'd just like to add, come with an open mind, this isn't the most traditional restaurant and obviously there are some quirks and aspects that might seem odd, but the food is outstanding and you will be hard pressed to find better service elsewhere. Flautas de pollo folks!!!!!! My mouth is literally watering just thinking about them! We started off with chips and a bean dip which is different but delicious - I am use to getting salsa and chips as a starter but I love the bean dip. Next we got the salsa trio and the green salsa was my fav! The orange middle one was verrry spicy and the other one has a Smokey flavor to it. Very cute place but it was a little too dark inside that we couldn't even read the menu. Very cozy feels though. I would come back just to get the flautas de pollo ! More...

Everyone i know talks about how amazing this place is so i was in the area and decided to give it a go. We came around 9 PM, it was steady but we got seated by the sweet hostess immediately. It was VERY poorly lighting in there, so much so that i couldn't even read the menu without using my phone flashlight. We were greeted by our server Antonio with fresh homage chips that are gluten free along with some warm bean dip. It was a lovely combo. Next we ordered the salsa sampler, came with three salsas and more gf chips. We liked two of the three salsas. The orange one in the middle is spicy spicy spicy! So if your not into extreme spice, stay clear. The food and everything comes out within minutes of ordering it which is really nice. My entree was skirt steak tacos with verde salsa and pickled onions, simple and so much flavor! Loved every bite ! The ambience was cute, cozy small tables, staff was nice. They ask you before your seated if you have any food allergies so they can accommodate you accordingly. They do not have any vegan options, but have quite a few gluten free ones available on the menu. The drink menu looked incredible! Probably wouldn't recommend this place for a large group, and definitely call ahead for reservations on the weekends. More...

Great authentic food! And the bartender is amazing at what she does, I believe she said her name was Colleen! She was professional, timely, always asked if we needed anything, never let our drinks go empty. One of the best experiences I have ever had for just a random night out and Bien came highly recommended. I will definitely be back! More...

Great food, great drinks. But far too small. They sat 4 of us at a table no larger than would seat 2.

My wife LOVES this place. I think the food is really good but I am not a fan of the seating. Tables are spaced extremely close to one another and it feels very crowded. The food makes up for the seating and you can always sit at the outside bar to eat. Our very dish is the Bien Trucha Tacos, Elote, Piscado Tacos and we usually get the guacamole of the day. Specialty drinks are good too. Prices are a little high but it's worth it. More...

Let me preface this with saying that I love this place--however, I will never give it five stars. The food and drinks are phenomenal. I've been there twice, and I have not been disappointed. The first time we got the bien trucha and pescado tacos...delicious! Yesterday, we started with the guacamole trio. The special guac had apples. It was creative and delectable! As a main course, we got the pescado and quiubo tacos with esquites. Pescado is by far my favorite, but I recommend any of those! The esquites were good, and it is a decent portion size. As far as drinks, I have gotten the sangria each time--it is very yummy! We even treated ourselves to the churro as dessert. It has a little tequila in it which is different, but it is very rich in taste! Now... as to why I will never give it five stars. The location is terrible. I totally understand that this a business, and the goal is to make money by serving as many people, but...I hate how they sit 4 people at a 2-person setting. The WORST part about this place is that you feel like you are sitting on top of the other parties next to you. So much so, that I could only eat with my left hand. If you are eating here, I highly suggest having a small party or else it will not be as enjoyable. I also recommending going on a weekday if you are claustrophobic. Overall, great food--I would rate it a five. But if I am paying over 120 dollars each time I dine here, I expect a great OVERALL experience as well. More...

Crown Jewel of the tri-cities imho.  Cocktails are on point, elotes on point,  bien trucha and swordfish tacos are staples for a reason.  Get some guacamole and bring some interesting friends.  Discover yourself,  don't be afraid to double fist drinks despite the posh setting, it's dark and hence hard to judge people;).  Don't speak Spanish to wait staff if your not fluent,  you just seem douchey,  also many are not Hispanic so it would just be weird. Had a recommendation for good Mexican, and while it's not usually my first choice, this was delicious. Went with friends for lunch and we shared a bunch of items.     Two types of tacos; the carne asada and the shrimp diablo. Both were great. The chicken flautas were a bit overloaded for me, but good flavor. The elotes/corn had a bit too much mayo for my taste, but overall good as well. The potatoes were a hit; a little heat and great sauce. Drinks were also super-delish.     Highly recommend the food and drinks. More...

We chose this place for a get together looking at the reviews on Yelp. When we arrived we were a little disappointed that they wouldn't replace the meat in their tacos - since most of us were vegetarian. We still went ahead and started ordering. We liked the appetizers we had almost everything vegetarian and sea food. But as the tacos arrived we just got blown away by the flavor. Each one of them was amazing. Flavorful and fresh we just couldn't help adding to our first order. Best of them was the tuna taco of the day. If you are craving tacos then this is the place to go. More...

Such an amazing spot with a great vibe ! We've tried just about every taco on Bien Trucha's menu, along with all three different types of queso -everything tastes incredible! It's hard to pick a favorite dish, but I think the shrimp queso is a must have! The tacos may seem small, but they will definitely sneak up on you because they are packed with meat! Come here with the idea of ordering a ton of tacos for everyone to share. Not everything comes out at once, so this is the best way to do it - plus it allows you to try more than one thing! The only downfall is you NEED to make a reservation a few weeks in advance if you're looking for a weekend dinner. Because it's so good, they book up quick! More...

So tasty! Had a 3 kinds of tacos, and each was really great. My favorite thing was definitely the Camaron quesos fundidos. It had such gooey melted cheese, 4 large shrimp, and the most flavorful chimichurri sauce. Didn't get to try the cocktails yet. It is all pretty expensive, but with it. The atmosphere was modern and relaxing. The patio looked really large and fun, for cooler evenings. More...

Totally awesome tacos, tried them for the first time today, fuelled up before trying Riverlands in Saint Charles, the Diabla Tacos were bursting with flavor, not too spicy, and either go with the side of corn or the rice, they weren't shabby either, and don't forget the Margaritas, awesome people, awesome place, and now it's a stop on my Geneva visits

This week I ventured to Bien Trucha with my mom and husband to celebrate turning 30! Yippee! Yahoooo! I've been to Quibo and wanted to check out Bien Trucha, the OG.The menu is nearly identical to Quibo, with some subtle differences, like no octopus tacos. This girl rarely ventures away from chicken so made no difference to me. ;-) Having experienced the trio appetizer at Quibo, this was a MUST. All our food was incredible! So, let me comment on the reasons for my 4 stars and what makes this place so unique. First, if it didn't rain we certainly would have sat outside which has ample space compared to the interior. Inside is great, don't get me wrong, but as other reviews have noted it is very cramped and loud when it's packed. Which apparently it is all the time. The three of us were sat at a two person table. We made it work, but it was cramped. And it was very difficult to have a conversation because of how loud it was. We made it work, but it killed the ambience. The other reason I knocked off a star? You know literally ANY restaurant you go to on your birthday either sings, throws in a free drink or dessert, right? Well, don't expect that from Bien Trucha. I got a candle in my $9 dessert. As a parent might say, "I'm just very disappointed."Will I return? Eh, I think I prefer the size and ambience of Quibo. I don't think I'll return for my birthday either. The food is killer, and I love the tequila menu... both of those will have me coming back. But the prices are steep, so this isn't an every weekend affair either. More...

Visited here for the first time a few weeks ago. We ordered the salsa sampler and some fried potatoes to start. For my main course, I had fried avocado tacos topped with a delicious, fresh mango salsa. They were easily able to accommodate for vegan options! Bonus - cool ambience (darkly lit, with indoor and outdoor seating) and great, really unique drinks, many with tajin spiced around the rim. More...

Excellent service!! From the hostess to the server and even the busser. Everyone was friendly and personable. Other restaurants should take note because Bien Trucha does it right. Now ambiance- I can't say much about the inside but the outdoor area was lovely- although we went on a rather hot day. It gave us an excuse to have mango frozen margaritas! The tacos were very good but sides must be ordered separately.  My boyfriend wanted beans and rice despite having a big bowl of them with our chips already. I'm glad he ordered the sides because the rice- Arroz Poblano was really good. My only complaint is that they serve the tortilla chips with beans. We would have preferred salsa. I think there was the option to purchase salsa as a side- that's kind of ridiculous. It is expensive in general but I knew that ahead of time. Otherwise, we had a great time here and would come back. I must say this is my favorite Mexican gourmet restaurant. I've had everything on their menu, they recently added more so now I have to go back and try other things. I had a late lunch yesterday and had their chilaquiles, amazing flavor with a hint of spice. I also had their fish tacos the fish is battered with red cabbage and dressing on top. They had their guacamole of the day which was watermelon my favorite. To drink I had their guava mimosa and for dessert the churro with ice cream and rompope drizzle. I highly recommend bien trucha just know that sometimes you may experience a longer wait time. Servers and staff are very friendly. More...

Bien Trucha has exquisite dishes. We ordered the guacamole of the day and we were delighted by the chunks of cantaloupe and by the texture of the guacamole. I loved the pastor tacos because the taco featured a whole pineapple spear, which really gave it a refreshing flavor. Our kind waiter, Juan, convinced us to to get the Papas Truchas and we were so impressed by the bold, but savory taste of the potatos. I will definitely return soon. More...

The take out experience was great. They had the food ready when they said they would and We were happy with the service behind the bar.The food was great! We got a variety of different styles but our favorite was the Barbacoa. Their guacamole was good but nothing too special in terms of something that would set it apart from other places. Bien Trucha was so delicious!!! I loved everything about this restaurant including the ambiance, food, and service. I have been to Bien Trucha twice. Once was in winter and once was in summer. Both times were great; however, the ambiance changed a little. It is so much better to go during summer when you can eat outside. The inside is very small and a little cramped. We went with a group of 3 people and it felt a little uncomfortable. We sat at the bar because there wasn't a wait and it was packed. There isn't much of a waiting area so people were standing around the bar stools. Outside is great!! You still have some bar stools without backs, but they have tables as well. If you need a back to your chair just wait for a table to be available. They are very accommodating! Service was great both times. The first time we had an awesome bar tender who knew the menu very well and suggested great items. The second time we had a waiter who also knew the menu well and was able to give us some extra information which was great! He even gave us a pronunciation lesson and explained why the place was called Bien Trucha. Clearly, food is the most important part of a restaurant. Once you taste the food, you will know why the lines are insane here. The last time we went on a beautiful summer day, we got the guacamole del dia which is guacamole with seasonal fruit.... It was watermelon this day, but it changes. OMG... who would have thought adding watermelon to the guacamole would be amazing!!! It was a real game changer. Next we ordered the pescadillas (swordfish with avocado-habanero pico) and the pastor (ancho-guajillo marinated pork with pineapple and morita salsa). The pastor is always my favorite. Next time I come, I might want to branch out and try something beside their tacos, but I'd have to share, because I'd definitely want to get the pastor again. Overall, I will definitely be back! Rightfully listed on the top restaurants outside of Chicago, this is my favorite restaurant. Bien Trucha serves an elevated version of traditional Mexican street food. Their food is and beverages are incredibly fresh with well balanced flavors. I have never had a bad experience here as the service is always phenomenal and the food is even better. Some of my personal favorites are the fresh cucumber margaritas, the white fish tacos, steak tacos, shrimp tacos, and the corn. You can make reservations online ahead of time. Otherwise plan on being there as soon the doors open as seating is limited and the line starts forming 30 minutes before opening. More...

I had heard about this place for years and was finally able to try it. All I can say is WOW!!! Really unique take on gourmet tacos, with sides that accompany everything perfectly. The patio has an excellent vibe and the service was excellent. Cannot complain about the prices either. Excellent value for the quality that they prepare everything with. Reservations fill up quickly so make yours AT LEAST a week in advance. Can't wait to go back. More...

We went here two nights ago with 2 other couples and loved it!  I was extremely impressed with the way the bartender made the drinks, especially the Sangria which I highly recommend.   The guac and ceviche were delicious. We got 5 different types of tacos and they were all outstanding.  Even though it is far from where we live, we will definitely be back! More...

Awesome food and great service! You need to head over to Bien Trucha for lunch or dinner- you will not be disappointed!! I went here for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I was surprised the restaurant was still pretty busy. There was about a ten minute wait but we decided to eat at the "chef's table" and we were seated right away. Our server (Lucy) described the handmade margaritas and I decided on the De Lujo margarita. The drink was not too sweet. $12 seems a little high for the size of this margarita but it had a great taste. I was very satisfied with the food! We started with the Bien Trucha tacos. The steak had a unique flavor and the roasted tomatillo salsa was perfect on top. The server suggested an order of Esquites (grilled corn, epazote butter, lemon aioli, queso cotinga, chile piquin). This is a great choice and will go with any menu item. We also ordered a Capitalina Torta. This is a sandwich with pork, cheese, pineapple, avocado, beans and aioli. Overall- They offer tasty food and I would love to go back if I'm in Geneva. Heads up- they close at 3:00 and then reopen for dinner at 5:00. I would recommend getting there early if you're going for lunch. More...

Food is FIVE STARS. The rest is meh, maybe three. First off I cannot thank fellow yelpers enough for all the recommendations. Please, if you are thinking of going scroll through everyone's reviews. The complimentary chips and bean dip are divine. The bean dip is nothing like I'd ever experienced. In fact, if you said you were serving me bean dip I'd respectfully decline but this stuff is amazing. Creamy with just a bit of heat. Pure bliss with crispy chips. The ceviche was fresh and very good. Next was the pica-pica which sounded amazing- bacon wrapped shrimp! But, no bacon was on the shrimp. I'm willing to forgive because it was excellent. We also tried the pork belly tacos which were melt in your mouth delish. I wish we had ordered the signature tacos as other suggested but that's for next time. Dessert was the key lime ice cream and corn cake with tequila caramel sauce. OMG. So, damn good. Drinks, how could I forget them. Small, but heavenly. I had the Flor de Jamaica with hibiscus extract. Sweet, bright, lovely drink. My hub had something with watermelon and a second with strawberry which were very good. The other stuff I wish was better is service. Service is so important. I made reservations online and that day someone called and left a message to call back about my reservation. Immediately I thought, crap, something's wrong and called back right away. I sat through prompts and eventually no one answered and it hung up on me. I called back later and it turned out they were just confirming my reservation. Nice. Thanks for striking fear in my heart. I have to organize a lot to go out. I didn't need that stress. The host was friendly and were were seated immediately, yay! But, right by the door and this place is tiny and crowded. Also very loud. Since the seats are so close you get to hear your neighbors conversations if you want to or not. I really didn't want to. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary. We were hoping for a special, romantic night and this place did not offer that. Our server was rude. Plain rude and pretentious. I asked for recommendations twice and he ignored me. He never smiled and acted like we were an annoyance. I really hate bad service and it's kept me a way from other establishments. I'll go back to Bien Trucha for the amazing food and hope for better service. Almost forgot, there's only street parking, no valet so get ready to drive around for a spot and possibly walk a bit. Although I think that basically every taco I've tried there is amazing! They are all so simple yet delicious. And the guacamole deal día is a must! New fruit added to it each time, trust me, you won't regret it! Plus the service is always amazing! My wife and I had dinner here last night. It was our first visit. We called in and they put us on the list. We received a text just as we pulled up that our table was ready. They sat us at the Chef's table (bar). That was a nice experience as you can watch them cook and interact if you choose. Our waiter was friendly. The menu has great options. Mexican beer for $5 is nice. Glad they don't up charge the beer too much as an "import". Margaritas starting at $9 and up to $12. Well, it's all fresh and mostly organic ingredients so I feel it's worth it. Chips and bean dip delivered complimentary. Very fresh. We ordered the guacamole as I tend to judge a place like this based solely on how fresh it is. NICELY done. We actually watched them prepare it. My wife ordered the special. Yellowfin snapper that was butterflied and grilled. Simply seasoned and perfect. Grilled lemon was a nice touch. Came with a red cabbage salad and tortillas. Delicious. I ordered the Pastor tacos. Very, very good. The place has a cool vibe. Very clean and noisy for what you'd expect on a Friday night. They even have an outdoor patio area with heat lamps and shade sails. Wife reports that the bathroom was clean as well. A true gem for the suburbs. If you choose to skip this place, great. There are moments in our lives that we will never forget. The first time you ride a bike, your wedding day, the birth of your children. Now add to the list, the first time you try Bien Trucha. Even with all the food options of Chicago, the modern house-turned-restaurant stole the show. After being seated quickly my server suggested a few options and I settled on the Bien Trucha tacos (I figured it has to be good if they named the restaurant after it) and the Esquites, a mixture of roasted corn, epazote-butter, spices and lemon juice. It's hard to live up to the hype of the 29 Zagat score posted at the door and all the other reviews you have surely read below, but I'm here to tell you it was far exceeded. The flavor was amazing. To the point I brought my wife back THE SAME DAY for dinner. Which you better be early to because by the time 5:00 PM rolls around there is a line of 30+ people. Regardless of what you choose to get, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get the Esquites. You can put it on any taco and its guaranteed to knock your socks off. Take a bite, BOOM, no socks. Bottom line- Bien Trucha is worth any wait, any drive, and sort of service. It is that good. More...

Was in the area and this came up as 4 1/2 stars with many reviews, So had to try it, First off let me say that all of the food we ate was very very good and I would give the place 5 stars for the food alone. However there were some negative things that made me give this a 4 star. When my wife and I got there they asked us if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We choose outside. There were 2 other couples seated outside. They sat us right next to another couple. I asked if we could sit one table over and the server told me know that they like to keep those for larger groups. Ok fair enough as they know their lunch business better than I do and maybe it was about to get really busy. We were there for about an hour and only one other couple came to sit outside. Maybe they don't know their business as well as I thought. In looking at the menu there were a number of items that I wanted to try. So I asked my server if I could get a taco plate with a couple of different types. He said no. I was a little surprised as I am sure that has to be a common request and certainly not too hard to accomodate. Ok, everything is going along fairly well and as we are nearing completing our meal, I was rearranging a few things on the table to give us more room. There was a wooden board that I think my wifes sandwich came on or maybe it was my tacos. I placed a couple of things that we were still using on top of the board to comserve space. The guy cleaning the tables came by and tried to take it all and I said no we were still using it. No big deal. Then 10 seconds later our server comes by and says he just wanted the board underneath and not the things we were using still and he moved our stuff off and took the board. That was a little surprising.  The whole time we were sitting there I never said a thing to my wife about how I was feeling about these little things that happened. When my wife and I were leaving and walking down the street she said to me it was really good food but our server seemed a little rude. I am glad it was just not me. Later as I have read some reviews on here I have seen other comments related to the attitudes of the servers. Our was a guy and I did not get his name. Clearly this is an issue.  This is my opinion of it all. I think the place had great food and ambiance and certainly has a lot of business but it seems some staff is taking that a little for granted. The only other thing I would say is I thought things were a little pricey. My wife and I spent like $53 for lunch. For the amount of food we got, that is way over priced.  But I want to make it clear, all of the food was really good. Would I go back? Honestly probably not and it is pretty much all service related as to why I would not. More...

Where do I start?  Let's begin with the service. As someone who strives to deliver the best service impossible can to my customers, I think I have found someone who might possibly make me try and work,a little harder. The staff at Bien Trucha is top-notch and that is emulated by one of their leaders...Kit who is one of the managers. He is friendly, courteous and makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk in the door. In my case, I had made an error with my reservation and made it for the wrong date.  Even though Saturday is probably their busiest day of the week, Kit took the time to see if there was any way he could still accommodate my reservation, kept me very well informed and said he would see what he could do. He personally called me the following day with an update and was able to get us in. Most places would tell you sorry, there is nothing they could do.. Kit went the extra mile and over-delivered on what he said he would try and do. When we arrived, he greeted my girlfriend and me and even remembered our names are thanked us for coming when we left.  Couple this without waiter Eduardo who took really good care of us and gave us some great recommendations and it is not hard to see why this place is always packed. Now for the food...as soon as you walk in the door, the aroma from the kitchen is amazing. We were seated and Eduardo took our drink order. We decided to order both of the brochetas...pica-pica and carne. They are in limited supply each night and sell out quick. They were amazing. We also had the guacamole with fruit of the day. The fruit was watermelon. Would have never thought about that combination but it was great. We also had the esquites. Another hit. All in all, Bien Trucha is a gem out in Geneva that I would definitely recommend. Top-notch service and amazing food. More...

I was so excited to write this review, but I've restrained myself until now just so Bien Trucha could be my 200th review! :)The hype is real folks. The hype. Is. Real.My husband and I came here for Cinco de Mayo this year. I of course have read amazing reviews on Yelp, so I decided what better time to check it out. I know Bien Trucha gets hella busy, so I made sure to make a reservation online. It was the morning of cinco de mayo when I checked their availability and luckily we were able to snag their last rezzy! I guess it was meant to be.Although we arrived right on time (6:45 p.m.), I don't think we were actually seated until about 7. I kind of was prepared for this though, being the holiday and all. What I wasn't prepared for was the shuffle between two separate buildings. Thanks to Angela P.'s review, I knew A Toda Madre was connected to BT and is basically the same thing so I wasn't too concerned. It was rather annoying though how the hostess at BT told us we'd be seated faster next door, and then that host sent us back to where we originally were. When this shuffle calmed down we still ended up sitting at the bar and ordering a drink until our table was ready. They had a $5 classic margarita special, so that kept me calm, cool, and collected while we waited. About 15 minutes later we were sat at a quaint 2 person table in the side room. Our waitress greeted us right away and was super helpful.I love the ambiance of the restaurant (although pretty small). A wine bottle-esque pitcher of water was on the table, along with a candle, stylish plates and a simple menu. The scene is perfect for a date night or a girls night out.We started with their classic guacamole and were also given complimentary pinto bean dip. Both were delicious and addicting. Their homemade tortilla chips stood out to me. I'm not sure what it was, but they had the perfect crunch and were not over-salted. It's safe to say we accidentally filled up pretty well on these pre dinner snacks.Their food is served basically tapas style, so we were instructed to order a few different things to share and they would come out one after another. I really like this concept, however when all was said and done the hubbie and I agreed that we ate too fast in anticipation of the next delicious item coming out!We ordered as follows:Cazuelitas de camarones -- sautéed shrimp, red onion, garlic, cilantro-chimichurri, and chihuahua cheese served with tortillas (this was basically a make-your-own quesadilla and it was amazing!)Bien Trucha tacos (4) -- grilled skirt steak, chorizo, chihuahua, roasted tomatillo salsoPescadillas tacos (4) -- shredded swordfish, epazote, crispy tortilla, avocado-habanero pico Everything was absolutely amazing. I'm talkin every time either of us took a bite we did that like full mouth "mm hhmm, that's really good" nod to each other. I literally can't wait to come back. These are fresh and unique Mexican flavors I've never had before. It's a modern Mexican menu so sure, I've had more "authentic feeling" entrees, but Bien Trucha is something special.Definitely go check 'em out. Like, NOW! More...

The food was excellent; this place would have earned 5 stars, but for the snippy, sneering waiter. Every request, even the simplest, was met with a blunt "no" or a passive-aggressive "not our policy".I don't know the guy's name, but he wears black-framed glasses and his hair was trimmed short on the sides. This is - without question - my favorite restaurant in the [Much] Greater Chicago area, and has ruined Mexican food for me because no one else compares. While that sounds like a lot to live up to, out of the dozen or so times I've been here they've never once disappointed. And now that they've expanded the lines aren't as bad (but I will say, whatever the wait, it's worth every second/minute/hour).Praise aside, there's a lot to try, but the "must-trys" are: guacamole del Dia, Bien Trucha tacos, Pescado tacos, Atun tacos, Esquites, and Arroz Poblano. If you only try those things, you'll be hooked for life. I've also tried all of the other tacos and the de Camerones. I've never had anything that wasn't good, but some of the other tacos fall short of the ones I called out above. The atmosphere has always been pleasant, especially during lunch. It can get a little loud/hectic during dinner, but even then nothing too bad. There's a reason why this place has a long ass line waiting for the doors to open every day.I have lived in the Geneva/Saint Charles area for about 4 years now and it took me forever to finally try Bien Trucha.  To be honest, I actually had no idea what it was until a friend  who also lives in the area told me to try it. Previously, anytime I would pass by it would either be closed or there would be a legit line out the door. Bien Trucha is two tiny little buildings next to each other with a gorgeous outdoor bar area connecting the two buildings.  The décor is so simple and modest, nothing distracting and for good reason!  The food is EVERYTHING!!!!!  The mojitos there are amazeballs! You can tell that they use fresh mint and good quality booze.  My boyfriend doesn't like mojitos but Bien Trucha is the one place where he will order one for himself and drink the whole thing! The food though, I don't think I've had anything there that I haven't loved. There is one thing that I order every single time I go there though, it's safe to say I could live off of this.  de Camarones - sautéed Shrimp, red onion, garlic, Cilantro-Chimichurri, Chihuahua cheese. Served with corn tortillas. That combo up there ^^^ is incredible! I don't even like Cilantro, like I legitimately HATE it but I totally scarf everything down with that dish!! Everything on the menu is like that, so freaking good! A bit of a warning though, they don't substitute or revise the dishes. For Example, I hate cilantro but I can't order the de Camarones without the cilantro-chimichurri. They have perfected each dish and every ingredient is an important part to the overall flavor.  It's not a big deal once you taste the food...You no longer have an argument. The only thing I don't really like is how small the buildings are. You will probably take it one of two ways, you feel like you're sitting on top of the other people next to you because you're so close together or the small quarters feel cozy and intimate. Either way, the food is incredible and you'll want to come back for more. More...

Bien Trucha was a very pleasant surprise. I was first discouraged at the sight of a possible cramped up restaurant but wound up being just right. The host and hostess were very nice and ,sadly, that's not always the case. Even a bartender said thanks for coming when we left. I don't usually care about that but maybe it's just because many restaurant staffs do not accomplishment this  minor feat. Anyways, the sound level was decent we're we could talk comfortably. We started off with ordering all the salsas and the bacon wrapped shrimp. Both were excellent as well as my strawberry girly drink. My wife got an excellent can of coke aged perfectly. So far so good. We then started off on our taco adventure. We ordered the bien Truchas taco, arrecherra,  and the pescado taco. They were all very good. One thing that bothers me is that I told the waiter that I didn't want avocado on my taco since,ya know, it's absolutely disgusting. They said they don't do that and just told him that I would take it off myself so I didn't feel like I was living in Nazi Germany. This was about the only complaint. We got excellent food at a very reasonable price and I was able to have taco breakfast! The next morning. All in all, I wish this place wasn't so far away from me but will be coming back! More...

Went here with girlfriends for lunch on a Friday afternoon and it was packed!  We still only had to wait like 15 minutes, and it was definitely worth it.  The food here was amazing!  Tapas-style Mexican food where everything is shared.  The guacamole and fish tacos were delicious but my favorite was the corn!!  Had no idea how much I could love a side of corn - it was so good!  Place is quite small and definitely crowded, but the service and food were amazing.  Will definitely go back! Bien Trucha has a great ambiance and great food. It's really hard to find a good ceviche (I'm a weirdo like that) and whatever they do to their ceviche, I absolutely love it. The only thing I don't like about this place is that it's pretty pricey for what you get, which is not very much. Husband and I ate here last night and our total bill was around $70 for 3 drinks and 3 dishes. :/ Do yourself a favour and get a reservation. The food is good but it's not worth waiting in line for. Also I love that they have hooks under the table for purses. I told you I was a weirdo. More...

Excellent food and great ambience. I live about 45 minutes away so I don't get there often but when I do it is definitely worth the drive. It looks like a dive from the outside but once inside it is very well decorated. The bartenders are amazing at whipping up drinks and the food is simply amazing. I have never had something there that didn't melt in my mouth! If you are in the area don't pass up the opportunity! More...

Amazing food, service, and ambiance - it truly doesn't get any better than this. My husband and I love to go here for a date night, but really any night is a good night to enjoy the delicious food and drinks here. All-time favorites:-Bien Trucha tacos - they come in sets of 3, and they're more filling than they may look. We usually get 2 orders to share and are more than satisfied. This taco is named after the restaurant for a reason, it's out of control tasty. -The corn - I don't know what it's actually called on the menu, but ask for the corn and make sure to squeeze the lemon in and mix it up like they say. It's the perfect compliment to any meal. - The rice - again, not sure what it's actually called but it's a rice and cheese mixture that you won't want to miss out on. - Seasonal Guacamole - the fruit that they mix in with the guac may sound strange, but it's always surprisingly refreshing and delicious. My fav has been when they add watermelon, but I liked the pomegranate too. For drinks: I haven't found a drink on the menu that I haven't absolutely loved, really. I tend to go for the Traditional margarita or the "skinny" but the Flor de Jamaica, which is a hibiscus flower drink, is also divine. Be careful though, they're not joking around with those drinks - they're so tasty but pretty strong too! Tips: Make sure to try and make a reservation (they only take limited ones) or try to call ahead to get on the list. This placed is ALWAYS packed, but that's just a testament to how great it is! Don't let it scare you away, you won't regret waiting a little while to get in here. More...

As a lone diner, I could wait 1 1/2 hours for a table or eat at the bar. Make reservations if you want to skip the wait. The bartender Gabriel was friendly & helpful. Ordered the Bien Trucha tacos and arroz poblano. Both were excellent! Also ordered the baked oysters with bacon & chipotle...just ok. Wouldn't order again. Instead of salsa and chips while you're waiting, they serve some kind of creamy refined bean dip with chips. Sounds like a great idea, but it was surprisingly bland. The mojito was great!  All their cocktails (as well as the food) are made with fresh ingredients. A couple of low spots but an overall a great experience. Will definitely done here again. More...

This is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE restaurant to eat. I've been here about a dozen times and tried a bunch of menu items. Everything is good, but I highly recommend ordering these: 1) bien trucha tacos with carne asada, 2) mojitos, 3) corn, 4) rice. The Chile con Arbol is great too, and so are the tacos al pastor, but those first four are my absolute favorites. The tented set up outside is wonderful on a warm summer night, and their restaurant next door (Toda Madre) does take reservations and will let you order from Bien Trucha's menu!  iFANTASTICO! The atmosphere is big-city, but the locale is small town. It's great. The service has always been prompt and attentive. Their food would probably be the meal I order on my deathbed. More...

This place offers delicious food with boatload of flavors. We have been here on several occasions and love it every time. It doesn't disappoint us on the food level. However this time we took our 16 months old son and went here almost after a year. And we were surprised that they don't have high chairs. This shows that they do not want to be known as kids friendly or family friendly restaurant. Its only meant for date nights or special occasion. So just so y'all know that they don't have a high chair and of course no changing table too. I would request yelp to add this in every info page of a restaurant on kid friendliness in any restaurant. Wow! Absolutely loved Bien Trucha! Why can't you be a little closer to our home, why?! So I made a reservation for a party of four like a month in advance and it was so good to finally get out and try this place. I'm so happy that you are able to make reservations because I'm not sure if this was always the policy! My one complaint straight off the bat is that the place is tiny, but luckily we got a table kind of on top where we could definitely have a decent conversation despite all the noise and music going on in the background. Right away our server brought the chips and salsa and the chips were yummy and fresh but the salsa was a little thick for me and definitely not the best I've had. Everything from then on went fantastic. First we ordered the fruit of the day guacamole and that was pear I believe, and it was super yummy just the portion could have been a little bigger. I ordered a margarita because I definitely needed it and my husband ordered the sangria drink and I definitely liked his more and would get that next time. Drinks are cheaper than downtown Chicago and so is the food but this place did remind me a lot of the upscale Mexican cuisine called Mercadito. Next came all the tacos! OMG, the Bien Trucha were their signature tacos, the steak ones and they were phenomenal, super juicy, full of flavor and one of the best we've ever had anywhere. We also tried the shrimp tacos and the pastor tacos and those were also very yummy but no where near the amazingness of the Bien Trucha ones. Next time I want to try the chicken ones because those looked super yummy as well as some of the other ones they have! It's nice to know that they have such a variety and for four tacos per serving, they were definitely worth the money. Overall, we were big fans of the place, the service was top notch, easy reservation policy, delicious tacos and drinks for decent prices. I wish they would expand and made a second location in the northern suburbs as that would be great! Thank you Bien Trucha for a festive and fun foodie experience. More...

I can only reinforce the other reviews of this restaurant. The atmosphere was dim but not dark, and being in what seemed to be a converted split level home made for a unique layout. Service was attentive but not overbearing, which I prefer. Started with baked oysters, they were smokey and tasty but definitely too small and few (4) for the price point, another 2 would've felt more justifiable, or just larger oysters. My wife had the traditional guacamole, excellent and made it obvious that we'd probably be enjoying rest of meal. For our entrees my wife had a pineapple shrimp skewer dish that was very good with a little building heat, and I had the swordfish pescadilla tacos they ensured that in the future when my wife and I are trying to figure on a restaurant for "date night" this place will always be mentioned. 3 of us went out here for dinner on a week night. Since we had a reservation, we sat right away, but they did put us at a very small table, so we were squished. It's an awkwardly designed space. The waiter was nice and gave a detailed overview of the menu. It's a small menu, but all the options look great. We had the guacamole, esquites, arranchara tacos, pescado tacos, and the pork belly tacos. Everything was good but my least favorite was the pork belly, in hindsight, I should have gotten the pastor (always go for the pastor). The best thing I had was the pescado. Hands down best Mexican food around. The Bien Trucha tacos were amazing. Very flavorful and bold. Definitely not the kind of Mexican food you get at 4 am while intoxicated. The guac was okay, tasted more onions than anything. It's true how seating is tight and you're pretty close to the people next to you. Price wise, it's relatively inexpensive. This place is awesome. The restaurant may not take reservations, but they do call ahead seating. When I read a handful of reviews saying you have to get there early or there will be a long wait, I of course decided to call ahead about an hour and a half. To my surprise, there was no wait when we called and they told us to come right in. My one piece of advice is our waiter tried to sell us the fact that it is "tapas style" and told my date and I that the we'd be able to do 3-4 small taco plates and some appetizers. I recommend you order a plate at a time, as they aren't as small as they try to sell. Each plate comes with 4 tacos, which is more than enough for one person. We ended up getting  an order of ceviche, the Arrachera tacos and the Pollo tacos. Halfway through the chicken tacos we were completely full. I wasn't a fan of the Pollo tacos, but everything else was delicious. And most importantly, the margaritas are to die for. Overall: this is a great date spot, great Mexican food and one of the best outdoor patios I've ever seen. More...

One of my all time favorites!  The food is fast and consistently good. We always start with  the guacamole of the day. Yummy!  We normally order the mushroom casuelitas and fish tacos. If there are 3 of us, we add the shrimp skewers. They are a bit spicy, but still very tasty. The dishes are brought out 1 at a time but that's fine for sharing. Others rant about their high quality cocktails, but we don't drink. Out bill is normally around $30. If I had to change something, it'd be the proximity of the tables. It's not hype.  It's really that good.First of all, I'd like to de-bunk a myth:  Bien Trucha DOES take reservations.  Go to their website!  You will be booking a table at A Toda Madre, which is a restaurant connected to Bien Trucha.  At A Toda Madre, you get the Bien Trucha menu, as well as ATM's special menu.  Long story short?  It's the same thing.  Don't try to make sense of it, I didn't.  So, since you can make reservations, you really should.  On a Tuesday evening, I was able to make reservations for Thursday at 7:00 p.m.  When we arrived, it was packed!  There were crowds of people inside the lobby area.  I have no idea how long the wait was, but I would guess at the amount of people that it was at least 45 minutes.  On a THURSDAY.  In the SUBURBS.We were seated immediately in a cozy corner booth constructed of rustic, wooden benches and decorated with large, fluffy pillows.  It's noisy in here, so hopefully you're okay breathing guacamole breath on your date.  The Latin music, typical of any Mexican restaurant, pumps not so softly through the speakers, but put me in the mood to eat tacos and dance.  Later in the evening, the music progressed to deep house music with a Latin fare.  I was transported from a cantina in suburbia to a sexy tapas bar in Madrid. The service was prompt; our orders were taken, and food and drinks came out perfectly spaced.  The waiters here don't dilly dally around, but they aren't being rude.  They kept our water filled (constantly!) and our stomachs full.We were served complimentary chips and salsa.  The chips were home made, and the salsa was more like a spicy bean dip.  I wasn't a fan of the salsa, but I gobbled down the chips. We started with the guacamole.  Get the guacamole.  It was perfect.  The portion is more than enough for two people.I washed down the guac with a cucumber margarita, which wasn't on the menu, but the waiter said they could do margaritas of any flavor.  My drink was tart and refreshing, but it tasted just like a traditional margarita.  Still worth every penny!I later had the Flor de Jamaica, a cocktail made with hibiscus syrup.  It was sweet and didn't taste super boozy.  Even after all that we ate, two cocktails gave me a comfortable buzz. The Bien Trucha tacos, with steak and chorizo, were our absolute favorite food item on the menu - no contest.  The meat was tender, and the sauces were perfect.  Tacos are served in 4's (about $10 for 4 tacos), so while we each ate two of these, one person could order the 4 tacos (they're small) and eat them as an entree. We also had the Pork Belly tacos and Shrimp Tacos.  Everything was delicious, but the BT tacos, damn...get those.Don't forget a side of the corn served with cream, cheese, and spices.  I've never had an elote, but from what I can tell this is an elote just served in a bowl.  Frankly, I'm not a fan of corn:  corn on the cob makes a mess, popcorn gets stuck in my teeth, candy corn sucks, and corn...inevitably ends up in your poop...but anyway, order a bowl to share and you'll probably wish you ordered a bowl for yourself, just like I did.We were stuffed from the many courses, but I can't resist churros.  The passion fruit curd was sweet with a tartness.  It was perfect to share. For the amount of food we had, I'd say Bien Trucha is fairly priced.  We left stuffed after two drinks each, an appetizer, 3 orders of tacos, corn, and a dessert, all for about $100. Bien Trucha is the ultimate restaurant for Chicago suburbs taco enthusiasts looking for traditional Mexican flavors prepared and presented in an elevated and modern manner. My personal favorite tacos are the Pastor, Pescado, a la Diabla, and Atun.To go with the tacos, I would recommend the Guacamole del Dia that features a different fresh fruit each day (e.g., pomegranate). The Esquites -- grilled corn with cheese -- is also a great accompaniment to the tacos. If you are not driving, I would also recommend trying one of their (notoriously strong) drinks that feature fresh fruit and juices -- the de Lujo and the Fresona drinks are both very delicious and also pair well with the tacos. In addition to the excellent quality food and drinks, the staff at Bien Trucha is always amazingly professional and friendly. I want to start of by saying that this place has amazing food, but there is almost always an enormous line and it is rather pricey. My now husband and I went on our first date here, which was a little awkward because I have food allergies and he ordered something I couldn't eat and they brought us one entree at a time. So I had to watch him eat and then he had to watch me eat (normally people share). They were also very quick to push you through, usually because there is a line of people waiting to get in.They have nearly year round outdoor seating with large heat lamps that are absolutely fantastic (and I get cold very easily). Which is good, because the interior space is very small for the number of people that come through here. Additionally, if you do get a seat inside you are usually very closely seated to the people nest to you.Despite the few things mentioned above, the food definitely makes this place worth it. They have a full bar, and their margaritas are made with fresh fruit and very smooth tequila (wouldn't be surprised if they used Patron). I would highly recommend the Tacos al Pastor. This restaurant is fantastic, just be prepared to wait and the high cost. More...

As I become more of a Yelper, I am becoming more particular about the ratings that I give restaurants...My first two times visiting this place, I would certainly have given it five stars based on the food. But, now I'm realizing one thing that this place does not have, and that's overall friendly staff. They are not rude, but would it kill you to smile? I'm not going to say this applies to everybody, but this is especially true for most of the men that work there. They just seem Gruff. In my opinion, this is because this is a very fast-paced restaurant and most of the servers seem to be three or four steps ahead of whatever they're doing at the time, so they tend to seem impersonal. Now, why four stars Because the food is freaking phenomenal!!! ... Everything! If you haven't gone, go! The food is well worth it. Now, that being said, there's plenty of other places that are popping up that are giving them a run for their money and most certainly have phenomenal service! Take a look at my lists if you're interested in my thoughts on the other area offerings!Remember, "When in doubt, order one of everything!" More...

This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant and I don't even live in the area. I travel here for work and come here at least twice a week when I'm in town. The service is fantastic and the food is even better! My favorites are the pulled pork tacos, ceviche, guac of the day (which is always amazing) and DEFINITELY the bacon wrapped shrimp!! Note: this is the only Mexican place where I actually feel healthy after leaving. It's actually really easy to order healthy, tasty things here and that's almost impossible anywhere else if you're craving Mexican. Go here!!! More...

This is one of my absolute favorite tapas restaurants. It is a little cramped inside, especially if there is a wait. My recommendation is to get there RIGHT when they open. Must have is the tilapia ceviche appetizer (if they have the spicy special, it is worth ordering) and guacamole of the day. They add the most interesting ingredients. I've had watermelon, nectarine and green apple guac, to name a few. Steak, shrimp and mushroom tacos are the way to go. I've ordered the fish and wasn't especially pleased. Margaritas are very delicious, but small and pricey, so be prepared for that. More...

Great atmosphere with a friendly staff. They have a great selection of tequilas and a good variety of margaritas. The food is good and served tapas style so you can share. They have outdoor seating as well. The only thing I was not a fan of was the size of the tables they are a bit cramped if you have more than 2 people. More...

Had a girls night out dinner here last night.  The drinks were fabulous,  especially the Flor De Jamaica!  It's dangerously delicious!  All of the food we ordered was fantastic...not a bad taste to warn you of.  However, the reason I did not give it 5 stars was because the service was less than fabulous.  Our server was such a nice guy, but his timeliness in taking orders wasn't the best.  We kept receiving other people's food, and the staff seemed a little discombobulated. I hope it was just an off night. More...

This is the first tapas place I've ever visited, and I have fallen in love. The food here is fantastic, and each type of taco will leave your mouth watering for more savory flavor. First, their guacamole tastes fresh and delicious. It goes great along with their delicious chips. They provide a nice bean dip with cheese sprinkled on top. As for tacos, pescado, bien trucha, pastor, pescadillas, and barriga de puerco are all amazing. The pescadillas have crunchy shells, and they have a kick from the hint of habanero, but they aren't too spicy. The pork and steak in all of these tacos is GREAT. As for pescado, this one is only a maybe. It is basically a jumbo fish stick in a taco shell. I think I would rather spend my money on the other options, but the pescado was nonetheless good. This restaurant is really popular, and for good reason too. It is expensive, but worth the cost. Delicious! I have delightfully been able to visit this Geneva gem for lunch and dinner on a few different occasions.  Always, the food is delectable.  Although sometimes a little hard to understand, our waiters have been very helpful and attentive.  I can tell it is a priority for them that we enjoy our meal.  (Yes, I know as waiters their eyes are on the prize...tip...but what better way to get a good tip Make sure their tables are completely satisfied!!)  I must also broach the subject of wait times...I know some patrons are not fond of a long wait for a table.  But Bien Trucha is up front about this.  They do not hide the fact that diners will need to wait a bit for a table.  If you are in a time crunch, this may not be your ideal night for Bien Trucha.  Patrons need to accept this fact and move on.  Return on a night when you can leisurely enjoy a mojito as you soak up conversation with old friends.  Or sip on a cucumber margarita (oh, the goodness!!) as you catch up with your hubby after a long work week.  For me, a night out with adults (after all week long with children) is an event worth waiting for.  Bien Trucha is epicurean respite for this stay at home mom. 420 reviews here so I wont waste any time!  It's like 3 restos in one/ Resto on left-Courtyard with DJ in middle-Resto on right side.  You wanna either sit in the courtyard or on the right side as the left side totally sucks.  They cram you right next to a million people and it's just uncomfortable!  They do have a bar on each side, so try and get lucky.  Service?  The waiters don't really care, just kinda running thru the motions cause they know they're gonna bag it!  The food is flat out amazing, some of the best flavors I've ever tasted in Mexican Fare/ think of an upscale "Big Star" !  Always busy and printing money/ a literal GOLD MINE! I have to admit that it was a little surprising to see a restaurant like Bien Trucha tucked away in Geneva.  Geneva is quaint; Bien Trucha tries hard to show you that it's not.  This rubbed me the wrong way on my first visit.  Nobody was particularly snooty, but there was a slight air of pretentiousness wafting around in the dimly-lit patio dining area.  Thankfully, the food did well to direct my attention elsewhere.  To start, try the esquites (grilled corn, epazote-butter, lemon-aioli, queso cotija, chile piquin) and the arroz poblano (white rice, poblano cubes, sour cream, chihuahua cheese).  Good grief, what a delicious and refreshing way to start dinner!  The portions aren't large, but you'll need to save room for those delicious tacos anyway.  Some delicious chips and a bean dip with chihuahua cheese will also keep you preoccupied.  Speaking of those tacos, my favorite is the Pescado.  Think of these as the best fish tacos you could possibly have in the Chicagoland area.  The fish is at once crispy and delicate and is balanced nicely by the refreshing cabbage slaw.  You also get a nice kick from the chipotle aioli.  Meat lovers, make sure to get the Arrachera.  You can't go wrong with grilled skirt steak and caramelized onions, but with avocado and some delicious roasted serrano salsa, the Arrachera operates on another level.  The namesake Bien Trucha is also a standout.  And on a warm summer night, I can't think of a much better drink to be sipping on than a margarita from Bien Trucha.  The service was warmer and more personable on my second visit.  Perhaps it was just a bad night the first night I stopped in.  At any rate, this restaurant was going to receive high marks just for the quality of its food alone.  It's pricey, but it's definitely worth it! Get there early to stand in line for a table when it opens....and know they wont seat you until your entire party is there.  good thing is that they have this beautiful outside seating area where you can wait and have a drink.  or they do have an inside bar area where you could wait also.but it's totally worth the wait!  drinks are perfectly prepared with a choice of many interesting margaritas (including an avocado version!).  I'd also recommend eating family style.  we ordered a bunch of different taco flavors and shared so we each got to try all the flavors.  The diablo shrimp was interesting (and the shrimp were huge!) but my personal favorite was the chicken (boring I Know).  but the flavors were perfect; the taco was the perfect size, and by the time we go through those we were all stuffed!  great place! Holy Guacamole, Batman! This may be the best mexican food I have ever had, outside of Mexico. The drinks are a real highlight here as everything is made with fresh fruit and have enough liquor to pack a solid punch. The place is tiny and very popular, so there is pretty much always a wait. But you can head to the bar next door while you wait. I tried the shrimp tacos, steak tacos, guacamole, and the salsa sampler. Everything was excellent. Can be pricey though, that meal with two drinks ran us about $70 after tip. More...

Went to Bien Truca for the first time on July 4th, 2014, wanting something different after the annual parade in Elgin.  Wow!  I'm so glad we did!  Not your usual Mexican Cheese- Quesadilla-steak and chicken-fajita kind of place. This restaurant is upscale, authentic, unique and very delicious.  The traditional margaritas were fresh and delicious..no pre-made mixes here.  The guacamole and house made chips were great, fresh and authentic.  The Shrimp appetizer was delicious....there is a name for it which has escaped me, but it was grilled shrimp, cheese, and cilantro chimmichuri, served with tortillas.  The baked oyster appetizer was out of this world, according to my 90 year old mom, who is an oyster lover. Our table of 7 ordered many different taco dishes to share, tapas-style.  We got both of the styles of skirt steak tacos, with and without the homemade chorizo.  We got the swordfish tacos and the tilapia tacos.  We got the crispy Pollo (chicken) tacos. We also ordered the roasted corn side dish...everything was spot on and absolutely delicious.Because we were also drinking, our bill for seven  of us came to 230 bucks, but it was definitely worth it for an interesting, exciting, and delicious meal.We LOVED our original waiter ( Eddie?) but as it was a holiday and they were closing early, he was cut and left us before our meal was served.  He was personable and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we had a great experience.  Our follow up waiter was attentive, but not as personable and engaged as Eddie was.We will definitely be back! I was in this neck of the woods and decided to try this place out.  They are opening one in Glen Ellyn, closer to me, but I know that will be impossible to get into for awhile.  We got here pretty late so we got right in. The food and drinks were AMAZING! We got the cucumber margarita and a Hibiscus cocktail, both very delicious and well crafted.  The food was equally amazing, we had the guacamole of the day and shrimp that came in cheese with chimichurri and steak skewers (best I can describe since the names are in Spanish).  Our server was really pleasant and when the food came it was described.  The owner or manager was not very engaging however, came to our table but didn't ask how things were, I feel that is usually pretty standard, but maybe it was a long night. The biggest reason for the four stars however, is when we were half way done with our entree and the server told us, that kitchen was closed so no more food. We asked about dessert, nope. I am in the industry and when it is closing time we close too, however, we ALWAYS go to any tables still eating about five to ten minutes beforehand to make sure they do not want anything else, including dessert.  The owner would NEVER let that happen! That is horrible customer service and maybe why we don't have Yelp reviews that talk about bad staff. Food is worth another try though and I will try to get there earlier. :-) More...

Yesterday we just so happened to be in Geneva, and we used Yelp to see where we could eat a nice early evening dinner.  Since it was Yelp that led us to this gem, I wanted to Yelp it up myself to keep spreading the word.  Bien Trucha is flippin delicious.  We showed up at about 5:20 and we were sat inside immediately.  Being able to sit down on demand, unknown to us, is apparently not a very common occurrence and we completely lucked out.  The meal started off with chips and a refried bean dip.  The chips are home made and awesome.  We ordered the ceviche and the salsa sampler as appetizers.  The ceviche is traditional and made with tilapia, and the salsas (mild - poblano, hot - morita, and fuego! - habanero) were out of this world.  All of the salsas have a nice roastiness and they have the consistency of a marinara sauce.  Yum!To accompany the food, Bien Trucha makes excellent cocktails.  We had the de Lujo (an amped up margarita), the Ahuacatl (an avocado based creamy cocktail), and the Tomatesta (made with tomatillos and mint).  Super creative, super delicious.  We also ordered some of their famous tacos.  If you need any convincing on this place, visit their website.  There's a great picture of a spread of their tacos across the top.  We had the Al Pastor and the Tuna.  Wow.  Visit Bien Trucha, but be aware there are long lines and wait times. Well, bein Trucha was top notch again yesterday evening.  We arrived at 4:15 and there was already 20 people in line!!!  It opens at 5:00 mind you!  We were lucky enough to stand in line next to some Bein Trucha Virgins and gave them a little 411 to get them prepared for the culinary masterpiece they were about to embark on.  After the meal they were blown away and thanked us for the pre meal pep talk!!We had four adults and two infants!  (I know, it is not a very kid friendly atmosphere). We purposefully requested the front patio by the road so we would be insulated from other if the kiddos went nuclear (they were perfect ).The service was impeccable, but we had to wait on the margaritas a bit due to the store just opening and the hand crafted and time consuming nature of the drinks.  We ordered the champiniones A+The Pica pica A (pineapple cubes were delicious but nuclear hot!)The roasted corn is one of the most unique sides you'll find anywhere!  A+++The tacos were epic as always.  The Bien Trucha tacos are my Favorite, but we also had Hongos, and Pastor.  Also killer!Always a treat to find time to hit up Bien Trucha!!!  See you soon! I am SO happy to finally be able to say I have been to Bien Trucha! Bien Trucha fell onto my radar several years ago when it was mentioned in either a local magazine or newspaper article -- at any rate, I had always wanted to go but a move to Wisconsin and a busy several years made it fall off my radar. Since then I am a resident of the nearby town and knew it was one of the first places we would dine.Foodwise I don't think you can go wrong here. Our group began with the fruit guac of the day (mango) and it was simple but really delicious. You can tell their chips are housemade and the bean dip they come with is also amazing. Since it is a tapas-style place, we ordered several dishes (tacos a la diabla, tacos bien trucha, tacos pescado, cazuelitas de champinones, and esquites) - holy crap. ALL of the food literally made my taste buds come alive. Perfectly seasoned, the sauces they use are INCREDIBLE, and everything in general exceeded my expectations tenfold which is hardly ever the case when you already go in expecting something to blow your socks off. I am 9 months pregnant and had their NA limeade cocktail which was also sooo incredibly refreshing and delicious. Oh and the esquites (roasted corn with cheese, lemon & spices) almost made me cry it was so good. What really shocked me though was my husbands comment at the end of the night - "that was one of the best meals of my life" - and for him to say that must mean it is THAT good. In the 5 years I have known him I have heard him say that one other time. Atmosphere is incredible - we sat outside at the communal table with friends - super trendy and fun! I felt like I was on vacation. No wonder this is considered the best Mexican restaurant in Illinois!! The only reason for 4 stars is because no modifications are allowed and because of service as well. I am not a fan of cilantro but was told I couldn't remove it from any dishes it was offered in. Additionally our waiter just seemed disinterested and a little annoyed at times, especially when we couldn't decide what to order and asked a bunch of questions. However neither of the above would stop me from going back! More...

I've been to Bien Trucha numerous times since my original review, so I felt an update was necessary!I love some of the changes they have made to the restaurant- a lot more outdoor seating and an outdoor bar- lovely. We sat outside the last two times I visited- and it was a wonderful experience! The service continues to be great, and they've definitely improved technologically for wait and ordering of food- love the use of the tablets- looks very sleek. The restaurant continues to be incredibly popular- so for dinner I suggest getting there 15-30 minutes early depending on the day of the week (we got there 15 minutes early for a Thursday dinner and had no trouble being seated). As far as food- here is a list of my favorites:Drinks- Avocado margarita, pineapple margarita (quite sweet as a warning)- more like a dessertSides- Esquites (corn)- don't miss it!Tacos- Portobello mushroom tacos- vegetarian and delicious, and the fish tacos are my favorite.I love bringing people here for special occasions- both of my cousins got a trip here for their 21st birthdays! The restaurant is rated with $$- I would agree with that pricing as long as you have only one beverage- two beverages would definitely move the restaurant into $$$ territory! Bien Trucha is not to be missed in Geneva though- give it a try :) More...

O.M.G. Some of the best tacos I have ever eaten! And served by cute, flirty Latin waiters. That said, when I use the word "good" in this review, it means a lesser level of awesome than whatever I refer to as "delicious."The Bien Trucha was my favorite- great flavor and the steak was cooked perfectly. The Pescadillas were tasty but the heat of the salsa kind of overwhelmed the dish. The Pescado was also very good- a hearty chunk of tilapia with the perfect amount of cabbage slaw. The ceviche appetizer was amazing, as was the Esquites and Arroz Poblano that our server recommended. This is my favorite restaurant of all time.  I'm always comparing other restaurants to this place, and nothing touches it.First of all, I would suggest coming here during lunch on a weekday, or early for dinner on a week day.  There is almost always a line and they don't take reservations.  What's nice is that they call you when your table is ready and there is a tap house across the street to get a pre-dinner drink at.  You can get a cocktail their, but it's a teeny place and their will probably not be a lot of room for that. From the outside this place looks very hole in the wall, but when you get inside it is so tastefully decorated and set up.  Thankfully they have a new gorgeous patio, so there is extra beautiful seating. You must order a cocktail, they are just to good to pass up.  My personal favorite is the Ahuacatl, which is basically a really great quality margarita with avocado blended in it to give it a nice creamy texture.  Their guacamole of the day they always switch out with a different fruit, that is worth getting, as is everything else on the menu.  That's the problem with this place.  Everything is so good.  Their tacos, tortas, cazuelitas, corn, and rice are all things I've had and loved.  I didn't even know rice could taste so good.If you don't eat here, you are really missing out on something great. Everyone working here was super nice and made my Mom and I feel welcome on a busy Friday lunch. The wait was so long that we had to sit at the bar. Not our first choice because it was right next to the door and super tight quarters, but we were willing to try it for our first Bien Trucha experience. The bartender acted as our wonderful server for the meal. He recommended we order a few things and share them. My Mom ordered a refreshing hibiscus ice tea and I stuck with water knowing I would have a sugar bomb of chips in a few minutes. They bring chips and bean dip for you right away. They were great! We also ordered the gwac of the day which had watermelon. Interesting and also refreshing. Then we ordered pork tacos and the corn dish. Amazing. You should get the corn, it's really really good! Overall great experience. Keep in mind it's pretty tight and the food portions aren't huge. I think in the summer there are more spacious seats outside. Yup, it's really worth the wait. Cream of poblano soup is a must, as is their guacamole. The only thing I've had there that hasn't been over the top delicious was their desserts - and after everything else, who cares?!

I'm obsessed with it. I crave it. I'll wait in line for hours for it. I'll nag my friends and husband about it. Everything good you've heard about Bien Trucha is true.Favorite dishes include Coctel de Camaron (lemon-y shrimp, red onion, avocado, serrano mango aioli), Pica-Pica (skewered and grilled bacon-wrapped shrimp, onion, pineapple with a chipotle-lime glaze. Delicate palates beware of heat.), tacos Pastor (chile marinated pork topped with pineapple), tacos De Mole (shredded chicken, mole poblano, & queso-crema. Oh the mole!) and Esquites (grilled corn with epazote butter, lemon aioli, cotija cheese, and chile piquin). I dream about Esquites. I crave Esquites. I could write a sonnet about Esquites! Also a favorite is Chile en Nogada which is served only in September. Chile en Nogada is a poblano chile stuffed with fruit picadillo and shredded pork & beef, then topped with a walnut cream sauce and garnished with pomegranate seeds. It's beautiful to look at and tastes like nothing I've had before or since. The walnut cream was a revelation to my taste buds.My husband and I attended the five-course, Bien Trucha 2014 Valentine dinner and it did not disappoint! We were seated at A Toda Madre (ATM). The courses were: * Guacamole with pineapple, habanero, & mint.* A cream of shrimp sopa.* Bacon wrapped dates stuffed with chorizo in a pimenton chipotle sauce.* Tacos, two kinds: Mahi mahi with hibiscus aioli, a mango cucumber slaw, & crispy leeks.  Orange-ancho braised pork shoulder with apple-radish-cilantro slaw & habanero salsa.* A Mexican chocolate flan with strawberries and mezcal foam.I was surprised at how delicious the guacamole with pineapple & habanero was. The heat kept me from inhaling it. My husband's favorite course was the shrimp soup. It was earthy & smoky and well, shrimp-y. Simultaneously comforting and familiar, yet new. Do I need to say anything about the bacon wrapped dates? Really? C'mon. Bacon! Chorizo! My favorite course was the tacos. Both tacos were stellar, but the braised pork tacos made me weak in the knees. I would have traded the rest of the courses (yes even the bacon & chorizo) for more of those braised pork tacos. One of the most memorable bites of my lifetime. The flan, for me, was lackluster. I appreciated that it was not overly sweet and had some chocolate bitterness, but I should have ended the meal on a taco high.I tried the de Lujo instead of my usual Tradicional (margarita) to accompany dinner. It was sweeter and lighter than the Tradicional. I most definitely prefer & recommend the slightly bolder, earthier Tradicional. As of this writing, it is not crystal clear to me the difference between Bien Trucha and A Toda Madre. My understanding is that Bien Trucha does not takes reservations and that ATM takes limited reservations and has a seasonal menu. But I've also been told (and the website verifies) that the Bien Trucha menu is available at ATM. I guess as long as they feed me, I don't care. I love this place. More...

I went here because I have heard from a couple people how good it was. My boyfriend and I went and we were very surprised at first how small it was, but it was overlooked because the atmosphere was nice. We were seated at the end of a table that was already holding a reservation, which was a little awkward but  it was manageable. First off, the service was excellent. Our waters were never empty and were greeted and comforted by our server. The food was excellent, I would definitely come back and try anything on the menu. I had the pork belly tacos and my boyfriend had the chicken tacos with the hard taquito-like shell, they were amazing! The bean dip was awesome! I will definitely be returning :)) More...

Absolutely my favorite restaurant! I can't wait to celebrate my 60th birthday there on Feb 1st surrounded by people I love. Guacamole, poblano soup, shrimp casserole, corn, rice, fish tacos, steak kabobs, and corn cake for dessert! It doesn't get any better than that. More...

Truly a gem in a world with an inordinate amount of Mexican-based restaurants, these two restaurants (adjacent to one another, and owned by the same owner) are inexplicably good. Like, seriously though...For first-timers looking to try these beauties out, note that **Bien Trucha does NOT take reservations!!!** Whereas Toda Madre does. You think it might not be a big deal, but I've tried coming here at 5-6pm on a Saturday, thinking it would be early enough, it wasn't... Bien Trucha's wait was over an hour and a half and Tada Madre's was 45 minutes (though they do have a [small] bar area where you can wait if there's space).Besides the great popularity of the place, every. single. thing. else. is. amazing.Firstly I'll note their drink/beer menu which is decently extensive, but more importantly, is diverse with several different margaritas and IPA's to choose from (my favorite!).They have several different types of guacamole that they all make in-house (TRY ALL OF THEM IF POSSIBLE!).The obvious star of the show being their tacos. Again, everything being made in-house really makes it feel and taste like it's all from mom (a toda madre ;-)). I would go through the descriptions of each taco but we each had two separate orders of tacos and it would take me probably a month to describe in detail how phenomenal these are. Just know that you CANNOT go wrong with any of their house tacos. But the real winner, for me anyway, was the chilaquiles. I have never had these previously from anywhere else, but this new obsession of a dish is worth the try. Chilaquiles are tortillas that are cut into rectangular strips, and fried, and are the base for the dish. Salsa is added (in this case, I believe mole [!!!]) allowing the tortilla pieces to soften up. And here's the kicker:.... FRIED EGG IS ADDED! Also chicken or pork. You break the egg and allow the yolk, salsa, soft tortillas, and pork to mix together with the cheese for an insanely tasteful spoonful of chilaquiles. This dish has literally become my favorite dish, dethroning the long-time king, lasagna. (sorry!)I'll add another cool part about my last visit to A Toda Madre... Me and my brother went for dinner and there happened to be no tables available, but there were seats opens at the chef's counter. The hostess allowed us to sit on the stools in front of the chef's counter and eat there. We got to enjoy not only the TASTE of the chef's food, but the SIGHT of watching him make it; a really cool experience to add to the already-perfect place that is Bien Trucha/A Toda Madre. This place really makes you feel at home, both with the food and the company. It would probably be a SIN if you didn't try this at least once. More...

The only reason it's not five star is the prices. Great food and beware of the margaritas. Yummy

We finally had a chance to try this place (A Toda Madre) for dinner this weekend and we were glad we did.  This is now our favorite place for Mexican food since the food is great and is close to home.  We had tried the Bien Trucha tacos, Carne Brochetas, and a few other side dishes.  The food was excellent and the kids loved it too.  My only complaint is that we had to wait for a while to get seated even though we had reservations (and a text reminder from them to be on time).  Most of the patrons where there to stay and drink all night (I don't blame them).  We were seated by the door which was constantly opened by customers that were waiting in line for Bien Trucha which exceeded its maximum capacity for the night.  Despite the cold breeze by the door, I wasn't disappointed since I had my Michelada drink to keep me warm ;) More...
