I stopped in here a few weeks ago when I was in the area and had a bit on 'unaccounted for' time on my hands, a rare and precious gift. I was welcomed by Spencer with kindness and felt well taken care of for my entire stay. I opted for a tasting and he gave me his undivided attention and lots of insight into the qualities of each of the wines I tried. He offered some crunchy breadsticks and was very open and candid to all of my questions, not only about the wines and the business, but life and his path to California. The Forgotten Barrell is a hidden gem in Carmel Valley and I will recommend to anyone coming in to San Diego for a visit. There is nothing pretentious or uppity about while it still has a gorgeous and light interior and tables are spaced nicely for those hoping to have a private conversation. A good wine bar is such a blessing. Its hard to come across ones these days that don't charge an arm and a leg for a glass of wine or are so loud they seem to be competing with the sportsbars for some reason. So, I highly recommend this great little place. And if you're lucky, Spencer might even show you the cave:) More...

Napa in San Diego!! Can life be any better! Spencer and Paris are the best in sommelier and winemaker. They really know their wines. The service is above reproach! I had a small birthday get together at the Forgotten Barrel yesterday 10/15/16 and it was a lot of fun. I like the quiet, quaint environment and especially the wines. This might be the best little hidden tasting room in Sorrento Valley! The wine is perfect and so is the service. Spencer was not only knowledgeable about the wine but offered great insight on flavor and the history of each bottle. An overall great experience. I could not leave within two bottles! More...

I came here for a private group tasting. This place has great art, and every wine has a story. They use sustainable materials to bottle their blends, which I think is very smart. The flavor palette of most of the wines was not up my alley, but hit the nail on the head for others who were there. I thought the tasting price was reasonable at $10. I'd come here again, and I think it makes for a great group venue. More...

Can't say enough about Forgotten Barrel. Easy to find, very very friendly , and Paris is a master. His Reserve is amazing and deserves the Robert Parker review it got. I'd tell you what it is... But best for you to stop in and taste and little. I'm actually very happy with his Forgotten label. 6.1 as well as the 5150 were yummy as well. Can't wait to go back! More...

Stumbled on this location by accident, glad I found it. Became a member of the wine club, which includes a some free tastings every quarter. The wines are excellent, and Paris shares stories about some of them. I especially like the reds, all Napa, and you might get lucky and he'll have a Reserve bottle open and you can taste it. Generous with his pours. I brought my husband by when he was visiting, great date night (dinner and wine tasting). Tasting room is dog friendly, and you might get to meet Elwood, his rescue pooch from Mexico.UPDATE: I have since been back a few times, and met some of the other members of his staff. All are awesome, no pressure to buy, and no worries about the tasting fee as a member (I always buy wine). I like sitting at the bar and meeting other patrons, some of whom are "regulars" who also come often. I do believe you can bring in food, too, an added bonus. More...

Tasty, reasonably priced wines made by a masterly vintner. Paris is one of those winemakers who lives the art of wine and knows how to share it with the masses and the masters at the same time. Forgotten Barrel is a gem in the Carmel Valley/Torrey Hills area. My husband and I tasted there over the weekend and were impressed with every single wine that was poured. All of them were thoughtfully crafted to be unique, flavorful, smooth, and absolutely outstanding. Gabriella poured for us and was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. The winemaker, Paris, also came into the tasting room while we were there and talked to us for a good long while about his experience in the industry, his methods, his values, and our taste preferences. We were thrilled with the opportunity to chat with the winemaker, as that has not often been our experience at other wineries! The tasting room itself is also a hip, fun place to spend an afternoon. We are already looking forward to our next visit and are excited to have this exceptional place in our neighborhood. More...
