About

Deborah Stern is a certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach. She has her degree in Psychology from Depaul University and has spent the past decade focusing on the principles and processes of Holistic Nutrition and proper exercise.

Deborah's passion for health and fitness has motivated her to educate her clients on the importance of eating for their health and longevity and exercising correctly to achieve body-fat loss, gaining lean muscle mass, increasing energy levels, improving balance and posture and feeling happy and healthy at the end of each session.

Working with Deb has completely transformed the way I look at health, exercise, and myself! She is incredibly knowledgeable and insightful and used those skills to tailor make a program for me that gets me excited about working out in a way I’ve never been before. She listens, asks questions, helps to set goals, and pushes you to attain them all while keeping it fun, fresh, and rewarding. I never thought of myself as physically strong before I met Deb, and through her workouts and encouragement I have been able to see how strong I actually was and have continued to grow to be. On our first meeting I told her I that if the only goal I hit would be to be the same size, but stronger I would be happy and now almost a year later she has gotten me there and then some! I free proud when I look in the mirror when I see my muscles, proud when I lift more than I’ve ever been able to, and I feel even more proud just existing in this body that Deb has helped me learn to care of, challenge and love. Deb is my personal trainer at EAC in Evanston. I really lucked out when the training director suggested that Deb would be a good fit for me. In just a couple of months I have more energy and more enthusiasm for working out (and, that is saying something!). I actually look forward to it. Deb is personable and warm. I clearly benefit from her years of professional experience as she is very careful and truly creative about choosing workouts that are appropriate and helpful for my current physical condition. Deb is amazing - I researched until I found someone with a serious depth of experience with training and also with nutrition knowledge and Deb shines in both categories. I have lost weight that just would not budge before Training with her has made me stronger in my 60s than I was in my 20s! I have been a Personal trainer and Nutrition counselor for 25 years. My passion is helping my clients to achieve their health and fitness goals. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing my clients feel healthier and happier due to moving their bodies and feeling increased strength, improved balance, more endurance, increased flexibility and improved coordination. I have worked with clients ranging from age 8-90 years old. I work with clients who struggle to lose large amounts of body fat, clients who have had hip replacements and want to gain strength, clients with eating disorders, clients who were sent from their doctors due to high blood pressure and possible diabetes and clients who just know that the only way they will step into a gym is to make an appointment with me!!! My job goes way beyond the training aspect. Because I have had my own struggles with body-image, food and weight gain/loss, I am able to empathize and have a ton of compassion for my clients . My clients share their struggles and I am there to listen and make sure that they know that they are in the best hands possible. There have been many clients who have come to me after years of staying away from exercise and fitness due to negative experiences with personal trainers. I love showing my clients that exercise, fitness and eating healthy is a lot of work but can be fun and extremely beneficial for the body and mind.
I started dancing at the age of 3 and continued until the age of 22. Through Modern and Jazz dance, I learned so much about the body and how it moves. I just turned 51 and I still use so many of the incredible principles of dance in my personal training. When I went off to college at University of Wisconsin-Madison, I did not find a dance program that worked for me and that is when I discovered Aerobics (remember, I am 51!!!) I was hooked on how good the movement felt along with the sweating and fun. The day I stepped into a gym and tried weight training was the day that changed my life. I fell in love with being in a gym and I have been lifting weights and doing cardio ever since. Because most people do not love being in a gym but know it is very important to be strong and healthy, my passion helps make my clients have a great time learning and laughing and feeling awesome at the end of their sessions. My approach to Personal Training is that the training session is about YOU...not about ME. I work with you to achieve your health and fitness goals based on YOUR body, YOUR level of fitness and what you are looking for from me. My career is my passion and my passion is my career. I continue to read and learn and grow everyday.

Services

$150/per hour I come to your home and we have a nutrition session that involves educating you on the correct way of eating for YOUR body. This is not a diet, it is learning about food as fuel and how to fuel YOUR body correctly during the day. Then we will create a food plan that you will follow for 2 weeks, based on foods you like and foods that fit into your lifestyle. The plan and the foods will get you to reach your health and fitness goals. During the 2 weeks I encourage you to email me every day with your food logs. This way I can be right with you each step making sure that you feel good and that you are staying on the right path. If you have any questions or concerns, I will be right there to answer your questions and help you with any snags!!! After the 2 weeks, my clients go on a grocery shopping trip with me at their preferred grocery store. At this point, you will "get" how to eat correctly and will be able to incorporate a ton of new exciting healthy foods into your plan. The first session usually lasts 2 hours and the shopping can be between 1-2 hours. All the emails/texts/phone calls are included in the price for the 2 weeks. I offer an extension plan for clients who would like to continue doing daily food logs with me past the 2 weeks. Certain clients are not ready to continue on their own, just yet, and need a week or two of more accountability and suggestions/advice/communication. ADDITIONAL SERVICES: Hassle-free Get-Started Grocery Shopping Let me shop for you!!! At our first nutrition session, I will be writing you a grocery list for the foods you need to get started and where to buy them. If you hate grocery shopping, feel anxiety about finding the food in the stores, don’t have time to go the store or just prefer that I do your shopping and bring the groceries to your door, this is for you!!! We will set up a time when you will be home and I will show up with your groceries. This also allows you to start the new eating plan without having to wait to find the time to grocery shop. $150/per hour Food Print for Life Extension Plan: If you feel that the food log emails with me are helping you to stay on track, keeping you accountable and that you would still like the feedback/suggestions and advice, you can start the extension plan.
