Very nice gym staff friendly
What a fantastic gym! Plenty of equipment so it's rare you're waiting for a particular station or machine; all of it impeccably maintained. The entire staff is super friendly and will help with any questions you have. When we joined, the manager toured my girlfriend and I around which made us feel immediately at home. The group classes are varied for any skill level and they keep workouts interesting.Whether you're starting out, getting back into shape, or already know your workout routine, this place is for you. large facility, great customer service and awesome classes that keep you moving. Did not give 5 stars because the equipment is a little outdated. Would definitely recommended.
Great locally-owned business. I always enjoy my workouts there.
I enjoy the group exercise, zumba is my favorite.
Always clean. Friendly staff. Family friendly.
As gyms go, this has got everything you need! I've never been disappointed.
9 years now wow!!! What's that tell you people. Love this gym. Staff is awesome! Smoothie bar awesome. Members very friendly always willing to give the Ole man a spot. Haha

Thanks to my gym Fitness World for being open this past Friday and Saturday during the snow storm. Shows how far they'll go for their members. This place is like a big community. Proud Member for the last 12 years!! Great Owners and Staff!!! More...
Visited for the first time yesterday. It was ok, typical gym, descent equipment...assortment of classes included with membership which will make it worth the price of $45 a month if you use the classes. Staff was friendly. Will visit one more time before deciding if I will switch gyms. More...

I love Fitness World. Zumba, Nia and Barre/Pilates are classes I regularly attend. I have also been to the Spinning, Yoga and Pilates classes, also fantastic. Good friendships have developed for me over the years. It is not a glamorous pick up spot, it is a family oriented/lifetime fitness hub of activity. Just can't speak highly enough!! More...
Great local gym w/ great staff. I would highly recommend for anyone moving to the Durham area and planning to stay for a number of years.

This is a really first rate facility. It offers a variety of group exercise classes at all times of day and days of the week. I have tried Zumba, TRX, Kick&Tone and various Bootcamp classes. The instructors (Karen, Melissa, Michelle, Diana, Casey, Andrew, Brad, Chandler) are truly fabulous. I find each one to be professional, supportive and very effective. Customer service is decent. I highly recommend this gym. I will be sad when I leave town this May to have to leave this behind. More...
*Update since last review* Added fifth star since seeing improvements in childcare. All of my kids love it now so I can finally workout without worrying about them. I love the personal trainers and the staff. Their AMP membership is totally worth it! You grow into a fitness community and as I mentioned earlier, the personal trainers are all just awesome!! I love Fitness World! This gym offers many different group classes to participate in as well as a wide variety of weight equipment to use. I love the atmosphere and it is always very clean. The instructors are all very friendly and professional --- In fact, I had the great opportunity of working with my own personal trainer, Melissa, for several weeks and she was very knowledgeable, supportive, and motivated me to make several healthy lifestyle changes that I will be able to use for a lifetime!! She was awesome!! More...
Great classes and instructors. I attend spin class about 2-3 times a week and enjoy the music and the variation of the different rides based on who is the spin instructor.
Well worth the time.
Great gym and great classes!!!
I love it. Tried some other gyms when I moved further away and found that this is still the gym I love the most. I like the multiple cardio bays and free weight areas. I don't like working out around a ton of people so I always find my way to the smaller rooms. Staff is always friendly as well! More...

I joined a few months ago and loved the classes. Then I joined their fitness challenge. I dropped 18 pounds and 8% body fat in 12 weeks! I am so much stronger than I was because our team trainer focused on muscle building. That is one of the best experiences of my life. The atmosphere is so laid back and supportive here that even if you are just starting out on your fitness goals you feel at ease here. I honestly can't praise the classes enough. They have kept me motivated and engaged. There are at least two each day that interest me so if I can't leave early enough for Ballet Fitness Express, I can always catch Zumba later. More...

We’ve been members for many years...we just love your front desk crew!
My wife and I are retirees in our 60's, and we have been members for about 18 months. I like to focus on free weight exercises, and she enjoys cardio workouts.
We have both been very pleased with the equipment and staff at Fitness World. Equipment is clean and well maintained, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Fitness World offers an excellent membership rate for seniors. You do need to sign a one year contract, but after that it's month to month. Recently we left town for a two week vacation, and FW give us a proportionate dues credit. There are limits to this of course, but it was handled well and was quite helpful.
FW members reflect the Durham community. There are young and old, young professionals, blue collar workers, small business owners... all races and ethnic groups. Everyone gets along well. There is a culture of respect and congeniality that we find quite attractive. We have made several friends at FW, and we hope to make many more.
Finally, there are many different exercise groups. Whatever your passion, be it yoga, zumba, high intensity cardio, spinning, boxing, or whatever, there is a group for it. We have enjoyed mostly yoga groups, but look forward to trying out
other options in the future.
Seniors, come by and check out FW. You'll like what you see. More...
I joined last weekend after a year hiatus from working out. Sarah Hubbard gave a thorough and very informative tour which I appreciated so much! ! She encouraged me to try all the different classes and showed me how to earn free personal training sessions. Last night I tried a Boxing class with Ben and was pleasantly surprised how great of a workout I got! The bathrooms and private saunas/steam rooms in the locker rooms and a nice touch to relax after a workout without worrying about who all will be joining you. The showers are spotlessly clean and I would actually consider showering there if I didn't live half a block away. Looking forward to getting back in shape and earning personal training sessions!! awesome staff - professional & helpful/group and individ training sessions/amp/wide variety of other fitness classes and times/best spin program in the area plus new keiser bikes/neat and clean workout environment and locker rooms-wet area/myzone avail on all devices/
I've been with fitness world for a few years. I recently did an AMP class, and now, I think I'm slightly hooked. Ben didn't kill me, and helped me to complete the moves the right way. Margaret was motivational (and a little scary at first). I will be coming back, and hopefully I can stick with it. More...
I've enjoyed going to this gym for the past year, but I don't think I'll renew. I live 25-30 minutes away during peak traffic hours and currently in a one car household, which makes it impossible to get to any classes earlier than 6pm.
The facility is very nice, and I've found instructors and staff friendly. The classes I've been able to take are decent (full disclosure I haven't taken all of them). I enjoy the new spin bikes and classes but times aren't very convenient for me to take advantage often. I noticed today that a class I liked a lot is gone (Kick and Tone) with Zumba in it's place (not a fan, but I know it's popular). I used to belong to a boxing gym, and the boxing class is what lured me in but it is extremely repetitive. Also, I feel for those who aren't familiar with technique as none is taught. Would be great to have an intro to boxing class for those who want to learn about boxing and not do a ton of burpees and other intense calisthenics (I've seen people leave because of them).
**Edit - I've added a star on due to FW staff response - that I honestly didn't expect. I appreciate that they are trying to meet my needs even though I'm limited by time and travel. More...

My husband and I have been members of Fitness World for over 5 years. It's a great gym and so close to our house. With childcare included in the dues, it was a no brainer for us and our 4 kids. We joined the AMP program in July 2017 and it has changed our fitness routine entirely! Before then, we'd take an occasional group class or aimlessly using the cardio machines. We had no routine, no focus and therefore, no results. We try to never miss an AMP class. Every workout is different and challenging with the coaches always pushing our limits. The 45 minute class is so efficient for our busy family! More...
Loving the AMP HIIT classes more and more!! Fantastic trainers

It could use more amenities but it's a perfect location for my life right now
I've been a member at Fitness world for a few years and have been very happy with the gym and the trainers. Management has a focus on constantly improving the facility - for example the locker rooms have been updated and the spin room is stocked with new bikes. They also have a fantastic AMP fitness program, which offers members a high intensity way to get (and stay) in shape. This is a great local gym! More...
Wow awesome experience.. Good staff n active trainers. You will be motivated to do more.
I've really enjoyed the AMP classes at Fitness World which are small group classes with dedicated space. Most of the class participants use the same type of heart rate monitor, which allows for people's heart rates and effort levels to be displayed on a monitor in the AMP room. This helps encourage people to work hard, and allows for fun individual and group competitions. Ben & team have done a nice job keeping the AMP program exciting and fresh. More...
