Been coming here for five years now. It's not the biggest or the shiniest gym out there, but for the most part, it has just about anything you need to get a solid session in. My only complaint is that there is only one squat rack in the entire place! Makes it VERY difficult to do leg day when you have to wait an hour in line just to squat. More...

Such a great and comfortable place to workout- whether it’s lifting weights or doing cardio, and it’s never too crowded which is the best part so you aren’t waiting around to use any equipment. The machines/equipment are also great quality as well, and the workers are super helpful, non judgemental, and very pleasant. More...

Great neighborhood gym. Clean, tidy, and equipment well kept. Can be crowded at peak time right after work but even then don't have to wait for a machine or equipment. No showers but gym showers are usually yucky anyway. Relaxed and friendly and convenient, and great price! No complaints here. More...

I'm super impressed with the San Ramon Fitness 19. I had joined the concord gym and wasn't happy with it, the employees were always just hanging out with each other instead of engaging with their customers. They were there for a paycheck and nothing else. The San Ramon gym is completely different. You walk in and everyone welcomes you. You leave and everyone says goodbye. The environment is 100% supportive, you walk in the door and see that the employees are all around the gym working with customers, encouraging them. I was immediately offered a fitness evaluation to help me to find a direction in what I was doing there- that was never even mentioned to me at the Concord location. I was offered a tour, asked questions, and when I did the evaluation I was given more information than I thought possible. I set up training with Nick (who is awesome) and as we were finalizing the trainings another employee said that he was super excited for me to start my fitness journey. I've received periodic texts from another employee to make sure that I'm doing alright, don't have any questions or need anything from them. It's a community of support, and way more than I ever expected from a gym. Thanks you guys for making it easy to come back! More...

Love this gym! I'm an early bird usually waiting for the gym to open it's doors and they always open on time actually usually a few mins early. Outside of the that the equipment is pretty much everything you need and usually pretty clean. Never too crowded either in the mornings so I can get in and out. Pretty bare bones staff in the mornings usually just see one guy at the front desk and occasionally a trainer. They're pretty friendly considering the sun isn't up yet but, but they're always willing to lend a helping hand or some workout advice if you ask for it. Would def recommend this gym if you're looking for the essentials More...

Was only in town for a week on business but I used this gym while I was in town. I worked out in the mornings around 5am when it wasn't too crowded. Really nice facility for what it is, it has everything you really need. The guy working the front was really helpful and even showed me a few workouts to do when I asked him for advice which is more than you would expect a guy working the front desk alone to do. Had to be in the area for work and the bozos at 24 hr fitness literally had no idea how or if they could get me a week pass.  (Something to be said for something so corporate that none of the staff know anything outside their basic personal duties)Fortunately I called Fitness 19 and Jeff was more than happy to let me purchase a week pass to the gym.   Yes, I wish the hours were later on the weekends, but the staff was always super nice, and the gym has everything you need and more (tire lift anyone?).   Good variety of machines and free weights with dumbbells up to 100lbs, I never had to wait for any equipment even though the gym was busy.Let's be honest, unless you're a member of the $100/month gyms, the 24 hour fitness locker rooms of the world are disgusting and no one's gonna use them or shower there, so people complaining about the lack of locker rooms is silly. Thanks Fitness 19.  You treated me great.  If you were in LA, I'd become a member More...

Totally worth the price and the childcare is enough to entertain my toddler. This gym doesn't offer extras, classes, or late night work out opportunities but the equipment and facility are nice and the price is always reasonable. Great gym at a great price. Does it have a pool, Sauna or huge locker room? No. Is it a third of the price of the larger gyms that have all those great amenities you're really not going to use anyways? Yes.. I'm really not planning on changing in the locker room, then using the treadmill, then doing free weights, then going for a swim, then using the sauna. I'll do 15 minutes cardio, then 45 minutes free weights. That's it. Im not trying to hang out at a humid germ infested gym for hours on in. Overall this place is great for my needs. More...

Basic gym that gives you exactly what you would expect for the price that you pay. I don't need all of the extras that other gyms have such as pools, group classes, showers, etc. I just need some good equipment to use and I am not willing to fork over $60+ per month to get it. Fitness 19 gives me what I need for a reasonable price. The only reason that I took off one star is because they open up really late on the weekends. 8 am is way too late for a gym to be opening. I would expect for them to be open at 6 or at the very latest 7 am. I just go in on the weekdays and go hiking or something on the weekends. More...

This gym is the most affordable in the area but the quality is not sacrificed. It has the bare essentials with a good number of cardio equipments and weight equipments, and a stretching area. It saves space from separate locker rooms and class gym area. (They just have lockers where you can keep your stuff and there's a changing room. But if you come to gym dressed to workout, separate locker room is not necessary.)It has daycare for $5 a day or you can arrange a long term plan. The staff is friendly too. It has a good workout atmosphere for those who want to join a gym to simply workout. I give 4 stars instead of 5 simply bc it doesn't have the luxuries of classes and separate locker rooms, which is not as important to me anyway. More...

If you want to get into shape or stay in shape, and don't need overly loud music, fancy locker rooms that get trashed by 4 pm, aggressive sales people looking to talk you into fitness packages and personal trainings, weights that you'll need to re-rack yourself, and Zumba classes you won't take, this is the gym for you. It's gloriously well appointed for a basic gym. All the equipment is new and in good shape, and there is lots of it. Cool gray interior with lights that don't overwhelm. Best of all, the membership is considerate. Weights get re-racked. Equipment gets wiped down. Mats go back where they belong after cardio.Plus, they're nice. We're visiting from out of town, and called to see how much it would cost for us to work out for the day. The rate they quoted was low, low, low. We're grateful. You will be too. Only regret? There isn't one in North Hollywood. More...

Love love love my new gym! I started going here from 24 hour fitness, and let me say this is nothing like what I expected. I expected it to be small and cramped with broken equipment all the time. But honestly,24 had multiple pieces of broken equipment every time I was in there and I could never get on any good machines. At 19, it's surprising, as it does look quite small, but it's never overly crowded, and I can almost always get the machine I want. It's so convenient and right by my house. The only downfall is there are no locker rooms, but it's something I can live without! More...

I've been going to Fitness 19 off and on for almost 10 years. I cancelled my membership for a while when my apartment complex had a gym, but decided to renew my membership when I moved around San Ramon last summer.I usually go to the gym in the mornings before work, around 5:30-6am. There is a small crowd and the usual morning regulars, but I never have to wait for a machine or weights and prefer getting up early to work out then try to endure the evening rush later. The equipment is well kept and any machines that are out of order usually get fixed fairly quickly. The staff is friendly and always helpful when I have questions. I usually don't get bothered during my work out as everyone just goes about their own business. Been a member since 2005 and I think once you've gotten to know the nuances of the gym, you will like it too.  For the price, it has most of the equipment you'l need, has space if you want to do some floor-type exercises.  The addition of TRX, medicine balls, and jump boxes means I can do metcon-type workouts. If you know what you want to do and don't mind going at it alone - great, nobody will bother you here, just plug in your music and hit your workout.  Plenty of friendly coaches from what I've seen, but I myself rather do my own, and they're quite ok with that.It gets plenty busy from 5-7pm, so I usually go late between 8-10pm.  Place is kept clean, and I don't think I've contracted anything nasty from here :-)  The patrons are very diverse, everybody is welcome, not a meat market (unlike that other day-long gym).Just wish... they're open up to 11pm (like the Pleasanton gym), or have rowing machines, or have Olypmic bumper plates... oh well, like I said for the price, hard to beat. Great place to work out.  Has every machine you need for a full body work out.  Free weights, HammerStrength and Life Fitness machines, 1 squat rack, 1 smith machine, and just about every cardio machine you can think of in the multiple.  The staff is very nice (if they are having a good day).  I go in the early AM around opening time so its not very busy.  I've gone in the afternoon and it gets a little crowded and brings in an ego-strong bunch.  Weekends are families who and machine/weight hog.  But, realistically, what gym doesn't have that?  They have a kids area so you can drop your kids off while you work out.  Unsure if there's an extra charge for that.  Either way, big place, great pricing. Fitness 19 San Ramon - the (almost) perfect no frills gym. I've been a member since December 2013. In that time I've lost 30+ lbs, but more importantly gained strength (muscle) and confidence and I could not have done it without Eddy K, personal trainer. He's knowledgeable, caring, encouraging, and knows how and when to push which makes each workout a kickass session. I started working with Eddy K in June 2014 to prepare for my first Spartan Race. He got me ready! I've continued working with Eddy K once a week ever since. I like the atmosphere in the gym. The folks that workout here come to workout, they are serious about their workouts. I have been a member for about 5 months now. There are some pros and cons.Pros: I felt pretty insecure about joining as I am overweight. I figured it was like every other gym where there are nothing but fit snobs. No, There are all shapes and sizes here! I feel so comfortable. I like the hours. I found that 11pm-2pm are there slowest times so more equipment is open. I like that I can bring a friend for free whenever I want. Cons: Staff is......nothing. They arent friendly but they arent rude. They are just there. They wont say hi to you, wont even strike up a little conversation. Nothing. They charged me an annual fee after only being there for 2 months...found that pretty ridiculous. This is the best no frills gym in the area.  By no frills I mean no showers, no towel service, no classes, and minimal ac. It does have a pretty complete selection of weight machines and free weights along with ellipticals, bikes, and treadmills.  The upside is that it's super economical with monthly dues of less than $10 if you wait for specials which happen regularly.  There is personal training but I never used it.  There is also a supervised play area for the kids. It's not for everyone. I came to this gym the week of 11 March while on a trip to visit my family.  I had actually tried to go to Club Sport to take a Body Pump/Body Combat class, but they denied me as I knew nobody that goes there and they are like an exclusive country club.  Okay, whatever. I passed Fitness 19 and decided to stop in and see if I was acceptable to them.  When I walked in, I did wait for about 5 minutes while I watched the goateed guy text back and forth with someone. Finally I asked if he worked there and he said yes (then looked down at his phone - don't you work here, dude ).  I told him what I wanted and that I could pay for the work out but I only needed it a couple times.  He got the manager and she was just great, and extremely friendly.  After she let me workout, then he was more friendly but still. If you're at the front desk you need to be greeting people.  This is a barebones club; if you're looking for classes, towels, showers, etc, you won't  find it here.  Patrons are fine, not overly friendly and it seems as though this is a place where you will concentrate on working out, not socializing.  They have TRXs which is great, and there is plenty of room to roam around the TRX area as well as they use a real TRX set up, not against the wall.   The personal trainers are pretty nice - I did talk to one.  While I was doing free weights and TRX I overheard a timer type thing from the speakers, like a countdown with different exercises. I really found that helpful.  I also liked that they don't keep this place overly air conditioned.  I liked it and would come back. More...

You can't beat the price period, but you get what you pay for and I don't mean it in a negative way. If you don't need the extras that you find in super gyms like basketball courts, swimming pools, showers, or fitness classes this will do. Some people such as myself don't need the extras and that's where Fitness 19 fills the gap.Staff:The staff are friendly which is a plus. They've always greeted me with a smile and never made me feel uncomfortable. They are always there to address your concerns. Equipment:The treadmills are not high end, but functional and maintained. They don't have individual television sets, but if you are at the second row from the front you can comfortably see the televisions mounted above. These don't have touch screens, but that won't get in the way of some serious cardio. While there are times when treadmills are marked out of order, I've found them fixed within the next day or two. Other fitness equipment seems to be reliable and rarely breakdown.By experiencing membership at the larger gyms, I didn't find myself maximizing the benefits. With that said, this gym simply works for me. If you find yourself feeling the same, I highly recommend Fitness 19. More...

So far I've only stopped by to redeem my 7 day trial, but this is actually a great gym for the area -- especially given the rates for membership. While it may not be state-of-the-art like SR's 24, it beats other basic 24's nearby by a drastic long shot for a couple reasons:- GREAT STAFF. The general manager is fantastic. He wasn't pushy at all, but he was incredibly friendly, helpful, and personable! You can tell how much pride he takes in the place.- Ample equipment. Plenty of weights in great condition, a TRX station, jump ropes, plenty of mats, plenty of kettle balls, resistance bands, lots of BOSUs, exercise balls, and medicine balls of all different sizes, etc. etc. While I haven't actually attempted it, I was really impressed with the full-body exercise machine circuit for less experienced gym-goers like myself -- there's a little speaker overhead that paces you through the circuit. - Really nicely laid out space. High ceilings, nice open/uncramped layout, lots of floor space for you to set up on your own, and a very large weights area. The only thing I don't like is how the treadmills face out the window which awkwardly subjects runners to the stares of passers-by, but given the limitations imposed by the actual architecture of the building, there's nothing they can really do to mitigate that issue.Because of the relatively basic amenities (no group fitness classes, no locker rooms or showers, only a small number of lockers but no lock service, no towel service), this is probably only a great option for you if you're a local resident in search of a convenient spot in the neighborhood to work out. In spite of these limitations, the prices and flexibility of membership certainly make it worthwhile! More...

As the current reigning Duke, I am obligated to provide my feedback.I am a member here because of the excellent price and flexibility of membership. No termination fees, no contracts, and access to other locations. The space is small, so equipment is limited. Only one of each machine, 2 bench presses, and like others have said: just one squat rack. The availability of free weights, however, is sufficient. Lots of little gadgets for you to toy around with (Swiss balls, resistance bands, kettle weights, jump ropes, ab wheel, etc.). Plenty of running machines, if that's what you're into.. Totally love this gym!  I am not a girl to get up in the morning and put on my cutest workout clothes and makeup.  I feel this gym is totally unpretentious.  Its the friendly neighborhood gym.  Had a little bit of a financial problem and Stephanie totally took care of me.  The most professional, dedicated and nicest person i have ever met.  I love visiting early in the am or after work,  is very accommodating!  So glad I have kept my membership her for he last 5 years. Fitness 19 is a simple, no frills gym. Day use lockers, changing rooms, no towels, no big deal. It's cheap. 15 bucks a month cheap.Because it's cheap, its pretty busy at times. Don't bother going around 5:30 unless crowds don't bother you. But if you go around 3, it's pretty chill.Because it's cheap, it's small. Again, this leads to crowds. If that bothers you, pay more money for 24hr Fitness and deal with larger crowds and more space.Like all other gyms, it has the usual types of people. The occasional screamer, the teenagers who stand around and talk more than workout, the muscled up dudes who go daily, the older guys who exercise in polo shirts tucked into their belted docker shorts. It's eclectic and I kind of enjoy that. The place is clean; there's always someone cleaning something. The yearly maintenance fee is actually used for maintenance because I've seen machines repaired in a day, new paint, repaired drinking fountain, and new floors. If you want to use the squat rack and it's empty, stop whatever it is you're doing and get on it. It's a popular item.If I had to find a complaint about the business I'd say that the employees could be a little more outgoing to the members when you come and go. They recently hired a couple of girls who have said 'hi' and 'have a nice day' more in the last couple weeks than the rest of the staff has in the last 5 years. I don't need conversations when I'm working out, I just mean when you walk in and leave. It's definitely not a big deal but a hi and bye are kind of nice when you go in 3 or 4 times a week. Not that it matters, but it's been a lot more pleasant since one of the trainers left. She was super outgoing and friendly and LOUD. I have those noise cancelling ear buds and I could hear that girl laugh over the music from across the gym. I'm sure she was a great person and a good trainer but I couldn't stand the sound of her voice so I just turned up the volume when she was there. Anyway, I'm a fan. Give it a go and see what you think. More...

"My gym is small, but it's mine." I love this gym with all my heart. First of all, the size of the gym is no matter- the collection of free weights ranges far enough for anyone who trains and there are doubles of every weight. And if your weight just so happens to be in use, the regulars here are more than welcome to share and allow you to cut in. Everybody knows everybody. It makes the competition between you and yourself- not you and the guy next to you. Secondly, I am IN LOVE with management. The girls at the front desk couldn't smile bigger if they tried. They love my son when he comes in- he is never treated like just another kid. He gets high fives, waves and "hey buddy's" as we walk to the kid's club (which is AMAZING, by the way). Ryan Dial runs this gym like a boss; his team is extraordinary. If you ever get the opportunity to train with him or Jeremy Stuber, consider yourself lucky. Listen, perform, and you will see the results you want. This gym is a great place to be- a beautiful view from the cardio windows out to the mountains, plenty of equipment, friendly staff and welcoming veterans. And, you can't beat the price- which in today's economy seems to be everyone's excuse for getting fat. Plain and simple: You'd be a damned fool to join anywhere else. More...

The bf added me to his membership over the weekend...only costs me $10/mo which I'm content with.  However, they do have a annual upkeep fee for all members which is auto charged yearly per member @ $19/ea.  Hey, i understand, but I better see something awesome rolling into the gym (a couple spin bikes?!) about June/July!I signed up for this gym purely for weights.  I need to weight lift a couple times per week and for $10/mo, this place will provide.  I worked out this past Sunday 1/22 around 10am and I was surprised how many folks were there.  I suspect the crowds will wear down next month.Absolutely no frills about this place...they don't even have a shower, which is fine by me. They have ample bikes, elipticals, weights, and TV's.  The parking lot sucks because it's a busy shopping center, but oh well.  Someday the weights will be proprerly racked and people will do their part on that...and as long as people wipe down after they use the equipment, i'm a happy customer. I give this place 5 stars for value.  The equipment is in good shape and they have lots of cardio machines.  I hope this company is successful because the business concept works.  There are many people, like myself, who really don't want all the frills of a higher priced fitness club.  I just want to go in and get fit.  One really nice frill that I wouldn't even expect is child care for $5.  I usually won't need it but I like having that option. Great gym for the price. Price of $30 a month gets you all the standard free weights and quite a large array of machines allowing for a great full body work out. Gym also has lots of treadmills, ellipticals  and a few stairmasters as well. However, the gym lacks locker rooms (although it does have lockers available for use) and other luxuries available in pricier gyms such as juice bars, running tracks and such...but then again, these are hardly necessary. Another plus is the gym rarely gets super crowded so theres never waiting around for cable machines, weights etc.The staff aren't overly friendly here but are a huge improvement over some of the older staff who used to work there. On the whole, its a great gym for those looking to get in shape and work out. More...

He cares about how each set is performed and uses your ability to the maximum and then some.  He ROCKS!  The gym is small but good enough for my style of training! I'm rating a 5 for value.  My previous all female gym went out of business in February.  For less than a third of the price, I have access to more cardio machines, more weight machines and better trainers. There are missing amenities such as showers, group classes and coffee or juice bars for socializing ....but at the end of day, none of the three missing amenities are essential for improving your physical fitness. Jon is my personal trainer and he is very knowledgeable and good at what he does.   He makes sure you get the most out of each 30 minute session....which increases my overall ROI.The staff is polite and shows respect for your time by letting you get right to your workout. What is the best gym in the EastBay? The one you USE. By that definition - for hundreds of people Fitness19 is the best gym ever.Around here I get a sense of community at my apartment and at a few restaurants and grocery stores. But nothing compares to Fitness19. It's the cultural heart of San Ramon. On weeknights, between 6:15 and 7:30, the gym is crowded. I mean *really* crowded.  But that's the appeal of this place. It inspires you to get a solid workout. It's a fun place to be.In April of 2011 they refurbished the weight machines and installed a rubber floor. The gym is nicer than it used to be. Some Yelp reviews about the bad condition of the gym are out of date. The gym has 4 areas: treadmill/bicycle, exercise, weight-machines, and weight-lifting area. Where the weight-machine area is dispersed through the gym. (See photos.)IMO they should remove a few of the weight machines and make more room for exercising. As a gym rat you'll notice what works for people and what doesn't. You'll eventually recognize other "rats" and tangentially become familiar with their workouts. Some people are very good at working out - better than the trainers. The majority of regulars have a common trait - they look great. It figures that in a year or two - if you workout 4 times a week  at 40 minutes a visit or more - you'll look great too.As far as the trainers go... I took a few introductory sessions and I've eavesdropped on a few sessions. And this is what I found:The trainers are friendly and professional.  The rates are reasonable.I'm most impressed with the trainer whose specialty is boxing. One Yelper complained about a woman trainer having a disturbingly loud voice (WTF?) - she must have moved on to another gym. The trainers will give you whatever type of training you ask them to give you. But by default they prefer the role of drill sergeant.  Drill sergeant workouts are great for people looking to get into shape quickly - but for the average couch potato looking to become a gym rat - it doesn't keep people coming back for more sessions - or even keep them coming back to the gym.  There is a high attrition rate. I told the manager that trainers should focus more on training and focusing and less on pushing. He didn't agree with me - he's into the drill sergeant thing. Still - he appreciated my feedback. The ratio of women to men is averages 4 out of 25.  I estimate half of the customers are transient and visit once or twice a month. About 1 out of seven customers use the gym 3 or more times a week. 1 out of fifteen have some impressive body building or body shaping going on.Most patrons are 40 years old or younger - but on weekends you see 65 year old outliers. For a regular, at age 54, I occasionally garner a surprised look.I've lost 5 pounds in six months and I've been able to keep the weight off - and my body has more definition and more strength than it did before.I've been coming here regularly for a year. If you just need weights, or a place to work out an don't want to spend a ton, you can't beat this. But you won't get any of the perks of a nicer gym like towel service, locker rooms, showers, fancy machines,  fitness classes, or even nicely painted walls. I'll tell you, some color could really make the place a lot less depressing. If you've got kids, they seem to have a good daycare option (never used it myself). The hours are good, and they always have insanely cheap sign up options.I go to my office gym during the week which is infinitely nicer, but don't want to pay out the nose for a gym I'll only go to maybe twice a week so it works well for me. 5 stars for this gym?  Well, yes i am exaggerating just a tad since it's definitely a bare bones gym.  But, I felt the need to offset the low ratings from people that are expecting WAY too much for a gym where the monthly fees are $9.  $9 I repeat!!  What do you expect for that except a small gym with just the right mix of equipment to get the job done. They have free weights, nautilus equipment, ellipticals, treadmills and stair masters.  Also, there are flat screens throughout the gym for your distracting pleasure.   Yes, the gym is small and at peak moments can definitely get crowded.  But, all of the equipment is in excellent condition, the gym is always well-kept and the staff I have met are always friendly. I have to respond to the negative e-mail that was posted about the gym.  I have been a member for 3.5 years.  The staff at the gym is stringently trained on etiquette and being polite to clients and prospective customers.  I know the owner, Eddie, and he would never tolerate the type of attitude that was described.  In addition, I have known Chad since he started there and if I were to criticize him, it would because he is almost TOO cheerful.  Fitness 19 is the cleanest gym I have ever been a member of, the vast majority of the trainers are professional and pleasant, and if the type of language that was described happened, I doubt that the 100's of people who bring their children to the day care center in the gym would be there.  In addition, you cannot find a better value than this gym anywhere, the customers are friendly, there is plenty of equipment, and I think the person who wrote the negative review should perhaps have his hearing checked or maybe consider that his first name really should be Dick! Ok...... Ive been body building for 3 years after a 33 year lay off from when I was...well much younger and going to compete next year as a pro in the over 50 catagory. Im dead serious about my training and do not mess around in the gym at all. This particular Fit 19 has some good and bad. Good is...great kids club and the gals that work that area are great with the kids, including my 5 year old boy. Not sure about the trainers...dont use them but when it comes to training...you either have what it takes to hang and get motivated to stay or...just go home. If you need a trainer to baby sit you..then you need them to come home with you and feed you  and make sure you dont eat cake.   But from what I have seen...a few do impress me with  very positive support to their clients. Equipment...tons of cardio....ok...great...and a tight weight area. BAD.... Early evening its over run with gawkers and idiots that pick up a dumbell and stare at them selves while doing curls with a 10 pounder...putting it down on the floor and just walking away. The machines are all good and always in great shape....music system is good...most people there are friendly and will assist for a spot..but here is the bottom line...if  you like to power lift...body build and do make a bit of noise...and do say strip sets and take plate off fast and keep going...if you like to load up the bar with some tonage...then skip this place and head to the Pleasanton Fitness Express....now thats a gym that welcomes all...and the trainers there will jump to help  you and even without asking will help get you that last rep..get you jacked and pumped...that gym has an overall positive spirit for the serious B Builder and Power lifter. I think the Fit 19 san ramon is overall a good gym...but management there does jump you if you get after it hard...but then...is that not why all that iron is there for....just a thought. One very nice thing about that location is...Great food within walking distance....NICE...anyway....thats the deal More...

Wow I'm so glad I found this place. Like some others have already said, by far the best value out there. Go to 24 and pay either a $1000 for an annual or $65+ per month. Unless you have to have a juice bar, basketball or a pool (with waaaaaay too much chlorine) not close to worth it IMO. Checked out Anytime Fitness as well. $29 a month and basically not even a quarter the space or equip.as Fitness 19. It was a no brainer. Best value in the area bar none. Trainers are also great. I'm training with Jerry and he really knows his stuff. (def. not hard on the eyes either. haha) You think you're working out until you train with a trainer... Def. a great investment. I love Fitness 19. I've been going there for about 3+ years and have always enjoyed the staff and members. The $19 monthly fee and no contract is just awesome unlike other gyms. I think overall the cardio section is pretty big compared to the size of the whole gym. They have about 15 treadmills and lots of ellipticals and bikes. The weight room sections have a variety of dumbbell's and machines that give you a very good overall workout to every muscle group. I also like that you can be on the treadmills for as long as you like (as long as it's not too busy) because I hate it when you have a 20 minute time limit. Everyone can tell you that 20 minutes won't give you a good cardio session-- not even 30 minutes. That's my warm up and for people who are serious about losing weight, cardio is extremely important. It's also very clean-- the manager makes sure of that. :-) And the trainers are helpful when you ask for advice or to show you how to use the equipment. If I could change anything it would be to make the hours a little longer and to make the gym a lot cooler. It gets so hot in there especially during busy hours. It's not big like 24 Hour Fitness and doesn't have a pool or locker rooms but for people looking to just do weights and cardio will find this place very convenient. Skinny chicks, fat chicks... ugly dudes, cute dudes... oh did I mention skinny dudes and fat dudes too? This place is great! I actually don't feel out of place... you know that feeling when you walk into a gym and all you see is size 0 , fake boobs, fake tans, muscle men... awkward moment because it's like they all look at you when you walk in and give you the look of "what are you doing here, you don't belong" Anyway, when I walked in here no one could careless, it was busy and people weren't there to look pretty but instead workout and smell and feel like crap after a good workout. This place pretty much has it all - all the cardio, weights and even a childcare center. The only reason why I didn't give a five stars is because they don't have any showers, decent changing room and locker area is small. Let's start this off with 'you get what you pay for.'  Fitness 19 is a gym for someone who likes to use machines and weights and can forego the extras, like showers, sauna and classes.  I love the people on here that gave it a bad review because they are still fat.  Joining a gym doesn't make you lose weight, working hard at the gym might. All that said, I love Fitness 19.  It's cheap and allows me to join the gym to go running in the winters when I'm too soft to go running outside in the rain and cold.  I go in the evenings after dinner and occassionally during the day.  It's never been busy and I've always easily gotten a machine of my choice.  The fact that it is a small, no-nonsense gym is perfect for me.  I went with a friend to 24-hour awhile ago as their guest and now have even more appreciation for Fitness 19 even.  The people that workout at Fitness 19 are down-to-earth and there to workout.  The kids club is smaller, too, and so the person watching the kids is more likely to pay attention to the kids than spend their time talking to the other caregivers.  (My kids were bored at 24-hour's kids club even though it was bigger, had way more adults there to watch the kids and even had their friends there with them).  I can't ever get my kids to leave the kids club at Fitness 19.If you are ok without classes, showers, etc. and mainly use the gym for weights and machines, then Fitness 19 is an awesome deal. Fitness 19 is very different than your 'standard' fitness club. For starters they don't have on site showers, aerobics classes, a swimming pool, or expensive contracts (which is a good thing). What Fitness 19 does have that keeps me and husband coming back are quality gym equipment. I personally love ellipticals and they have two rows of them, and they are sturdy and good quality. They also have lots of treadmills (not my thing by husband likes em),  a couple stair masters, about 6 recumbent bikes, a few stationery bikes, and tons of weights, including a large free weight area. The hours are ok, they close a little early (8pm) on Friday-Sun. You have to wash down the equipment yourself but I personally like this because they supply you with paper towels and cleaning solution to use - so each time I start a workout I wipe down my own machine and I know its clean. At my old club they had a kid walking around wiping down machines periodically but often times I'd still wind up getting on a machine before it was wiped down. So at Fitness 19 you do it yourself, which is more work but at least you know its clean. (you might notice I use the word clean in my reviews a lot....I'm not medicated or anything but maybe I should be...)Anyway I like Fitness 19, especially since its only $9 a month (or $18 for husband and me) and no contracts. The only thing is if you go at 5pm-7pm the place is pretty crowded and you might have to wait a few minutes for a machine. But, it is close to new years as I am writing this so its probably just a lot of new years resolution people who will probably begin to fade away over time.... More...

This is a solid gym where working out trumps hooking up.  24 Hour is a meat market.  Don't believe me, then look up the Missed Connections on Craigslist.  It seems like "Can you spot me?" has taken the place of wide stances at 24 Hour.  At Fitness 19, the clientele is representative of San Ramon age-wise.  All ages.  Lots of families come in together.  They have kids care in the back where you can drop off the youngsters for 1:30 for $5.  In general this is a place where most of the members are looking to strictly get their fitness on.  It's not pretentious.  It's got a ton of elliptical machines, a bunch of treadmills, and quite a few stationary bikes.  They only have 3 StairMasters and with it being busy in the evenings with everyone being so resolute in the new year, it's hard to get on one sometimes.  The free weight and machine area is way more than adequate.  A variety of machines, a good number of benches, dumbbells from 1 lb all the way to 100 lbs, and barbells from 20lbs to 100 lbs at 10 lb intervals.  They could use a few 5 lb increments but that's being a little nit-picky.  No roided out  meatheads grunting and screaming.  Not intimidating for newbies.   I've worked with a trainer there for 6 months now.   One of the reviews refers to her as a "cheerleader on Red Bull".   I've lost 41 pounds so far and the wife has lost over 25 with that "cheerleader".   If the Raiders and Niners had "cheerleaders" like that, they'd both be in the Super Bowl.  And anyway, it's a gym, not a friggin' library.  And on a side note, I found out that the reason the club can offer $9 memberships and still stay in business is because of the training sessions.  So you have to sit through a training session pitch when you sign up...it's a small price to pay for the small price you pay.Lockers and changing rooms are available.  The bathrooms are clean.  Fitness 19 is affordable, clean, and has more than enough equipment to get in a solid, fast workout.  And the biggest plus is they have Jenny, the most kicking-ass personal trainer. This gym is a great bargain.  Clean, ample equipment, and so, so cheap!  Less than $14 a month, and if you sign up a the right time, it can be about $9.Issues with the place:-Closes by 10P on the weekdays, and by 8P on the weekends; so no late night working out.  I usually don't work out late, but sometimes, my day doesn't end until 10P and even half an hour of being on the eliiptical would be nice.-They really push their personal trainers.  Be careful and be ready to pushback if you ask for some "advice," they'll straight push a trainer on you like a dope dealer pushing crack on Whitney.-They do have televisions, but with only a few channels, and this is apparently due to the low gym fees - they can't afford premium cable.-No fancy equipment, but again, you are probably paying no more than $14/monthly to work out here, so really, what can you expect?-They constantly change their fees every month.  You can sign up on month, pay all the enrollment fees, etc. and then pay about $14 a month.  Then, the following month, all of a sudden, to attract more members, they are now signing up people with no enrollment fees and for $9 a month.  Hmm... is it possible to refinance your gym membership?-Their guest passes are grossly expensive - $5 for a day (which can be more than half of a month membership fee) and $25 for the week... you might as well sign up for a month and then quit (without enrollment fees though). All in all, it is fine for a work out, they have good machines, and it is hella cheap. For once "you get what you pay for" isn't such a negative term..A total no frills, low membership fitness chain, Fitness 19 (and Express Fitness in Pleasanton) is a great alternative to big chains like 24 Hour Fitness or Club Sport. I got an excellent deal, and I only pay $12/month, but even at the "normal" rates of $19/month, it makes you wonder if that $40-60/month gym membership is worth it.. I mean yes, you won't find group classes in San Ramon, and you will have to pay for some of the group classes offered in Pleasanton. You won't be able to work out at 2am, but really, who does that? The hours are reasonable (fri-sun hours could be a little better), the equipment is pretty up to date, even if it is not the most top of the line available, and they have plenty of personal trainers and group instructors on staff. If you want a steam room and sauna, or a hot tub to just veg out in, you're looking in the wrong place. But if you want somewhere to actually work out at, this is a great alternative to high priced gyms with all kinds of fancy extras that you probably aren't using anyways. More...
