Went out for a bite to eat & stumbled upon this place. The atmosphere is nice; music & a good ambience. The food was really good & it was a Monday night, the service was up beat & very attentive; I would definitely bring My Lady here again. It's a great first date/date spot or just going out with friends. The grass fed burger is a must; we had the Margherita pizza & it was delicious. More...

This location seems to think it's not directly attached to a movie theatre, so in other words it's a bit pompous. I haven't yet been to the Gulch restaurant, so I'm only speaking for GH's. I arrived with a party of three around 6-6:30pm on a Tuesday in Dec. We waited for a table for upwards of 15 min despite there only being two tables taken. Granted, 15 min isn't a long wait, but it definitely seems to be when you're staring at an empty room. However, four stars given bc Le Big Matt is the best burger I've ever had. Better than ever talked about burgers at Husk and Dino's. Bear Creek Farm beef is amazing. Note that you're only able to order it medium or medium well and you can't order it for delivery or pickup (at least according to our waiter). Forget about their pizza, the burger is the choice here. 3.8 stars is my actual review & here's why. There was so much hype over this place, and I had very high hopes for this square pizza--but maybe it was just a little too high of hopes. I'd heard about the honey on the pizza and was pretty excited about that, but when it came to the bite, it kinda fell short and didn't stand out too much. We got the Colony Pizza, a Vodka Pizza + Chorizo, a spicy chicken sandwich, and a side of fries. The fries were really good and the chicken sandwich hit the spot too. The sauce on the chicken sandwich enhanced the already tender, juicy and flavorful chicken. The pizza is where things kinda got eh for me. I liked the Colony but it felt a bit dry & underwhelming. Again, I think the expectations were too high, bc it wasn't a bad pizza, it just did not live up to the hype. The Vodka pizza wasn't bad either but I thought the chorizo was pretty dry.Overall, I think this place was good but I wouldn't go here for a square pizza. I heard the burgers are suuuuper good tho, and the spicy chicken sandwich showed that there is 100% potential there. More...

Oh my goodness what A PIZZA Emmy Squared makes.I came with a couple friends on a Sunday around 6pm and got a seat at a high top without reservations, but it filled up pretty quickly within the next hour. We ordered the Colony (pepperoni & hot honey) and Margherita (with BURRATA) pizzas. Incredible. Rave reviews all around. The tomato sauce on the Margherita pizza was potentially the best I've had. Not too sweet, a good saltiness to it, and the burrata and basil additions.... wow. So good. The colony pizza was really good as well, loved the hot honey to add a nice sweet spicy bite. The pepperonis are the good kind, pretty thick so they hold the greasiness just slightly. But, the best part of it all? The crust!!! I'm not always overly excited about a grandma crust but this place has turned me around. The flavors and crunch around the edges are perfect, while the dough is still fluffy and slightly dense inside. Can't recommend Emmy Squared enough! More...

I first had Emmy Squared at a Mets game and it was delicious so I was excited to try the restaurant. We ordered the colony and margherita (which comes with burrata) pizza. The food was a bit slow to come out, it took about 30min. The pepperoni on the colony was overcooked which was unfortunate and it didn't have any honey on it. I informed our waiter who apologized and brought it back with honey. The dough was perfect, crunchy outside soft inside and there was enough sauce and cheese. The margherita was really tasty, the burrata was excellent and there was lots of it. My only suggestion would be that they cut the basil leaves and sprinkle it over the pizza rather than putting one big basil leaf per slice.Overall it was a nice meal, but could have been better executed. Not sure if they were having an off night, but I would go back. More...

I've come to Emmy Squared (both this location and their locale in Williamsburg) ~12 times this year and each time is just as good as the last. I grew up in Detroit so I'm a pretty hard critic when it comes to Detroit style pizza but Emmy Squared nails it. This comes from my whole family including my notoriously picky Detroit-bred parents as well! Start with the eggplant parm - it's so overly cheesy in the best way plus they top it with calabrian chilies that make everything 10x better. You can't go wrong with ordering any of the pizzas although my personal favorite is the colony or the emmy (the vodka one gets a special mention to). I've heard great things about their burger as well.Run, don't walk! More...

My friend and I were in East Village looking for a place for dinner after we finished a workout class, and she recommended we walk to Emmy Squared! It was a Friday night, and the restaurant was packed -- the wait for just 2 people was over an hour! However, we stuck around and we were fortunate enough to be able to grab a couple seats at the bar, which offers their full menu. We order a couple cocktails (With Love From Emily was strong yet refreshing!) and food to share: roasted cauliflower, okonomi fries, and a Vodka pizza. Service was quick, and the food was delicious. The vodka pizza was amazing with the crispy crust - I highly recommend this one! The Okonomi fries where are unique and flavorful, but there was just a little too much sauce that drowned the fries a little bit in my opinion. The cauliflower was flavorful as well. Whether you're a New Yorker who enjoys your pizza thin enough to fold in half, or if you're a fan of the deep dish, sauce laden crusts native to Chicago, you can find a happy medium between the bread textures at Emmy Squared. Pizza made Detroit style means it's baked in a square pan with enough oil that it fries the underskirt of the pie. The sauce sits atop the cheese which is baked into the crust to create a crispy layer on the outer edges of the pizza and doesn't pool to the edges like New York style pizza does. This forms an amazing pie with enough density to deliver a nice chewiness but is simultaneously airy and light in the center. The namesake pie, "The Emmy," starts with a base of mozzarella cheese, supporting a smattering of banana peppers, onions and a zig zag drizzle of a bright green cilantro ranch dressing. The banana peppers are tarte and pickled, adding a nice contrast to the creaminess of the ranch dressing. Marinara sauce is provided for your dipping pleasure, a side I found unnecessary since the pizza was flavorful enough on its own. This was definitely the star pie of the evening.Off the White cheese pizza menu, I ordered the Marn Blanc, which jumped out at me for the combination of ricotta, pecorino, and caramelized onions. There was a pleasant sweetness to the caramelized onions, which spiked the flavor of the more muted taste of the ricotta cheese layer. The crust had the same satisfying crispy outer layer and air pocked, chewy center that is signature to all the pies at Emmy Squared.Though there were several empty tables around us and no one waiting to be seated, I felt very rushed through my meal. Two servers came by to take unfinished dishes away before we were ready, and a bill was dropped on our table with a look that said "pay and get out." I'm sure there are operational reasons for this (or not?) but it didn't make for the most hospitable experience. More...

First time trying Emmy Squared as I'm going through my pizza bucket list and must say it was really good and unique. We didn't know they accept reservations so that meant a seat at the bar. We were kind of bummed out, but the restaurant was packed to the gills all night. We were informed we'd get the next available table, but that never happened.Service at the bar was spotty at first but I'm sure it was due to the high volume of patrons. I ordered a delicious Pinot Noir to start things off with the cauliflower appetizer ordered. We were blown away by the flavors and the deliciousness of this dish.We then ordered two pies to share. I'm not familiar with Detroit style pizza, but all pies were square in shape, 6 pieces. We ordered the Hot Chicken which was topped with spicy fried chicken pieces, onions, special sauce and overall,  really good. The other pie was a classic margherita topped with basil and burrata. A bit salty, but delicious. The crust of both pies was light and airy in the middle with a crunchy and crispy edges/crust.Both were equally good but I had to take the rest of mine home.In summary, although I really liked Emmy Squared, I have an affinity for thin crust, round pizza. Those that are more traditional. In other words, the Hot Chicken which was spicy and a bit sweet, was good but not the simple, classic style of what pizza should define. With so many pizzerias in business, artisanal style is the end result or maybe who can be more creative.Aside from that sentiment, I'm glad I finally tried Emmy Squared. Great and filling meal. Emmy Squared serves up delicious Detroit style pizzas, and is a restaurant that you can consistently go to for reliably great food, whether at their West Village location, or newer East Village spot. We'd been to the West Village location previously, and were big fans, so one Saturday night, we decided to drop in spontaneously into the new Emmy Squared. It was about 6ish, and we didn't have a reservation, but we managed to be seated immediately at a table. The staff brought us copies of the menu and waters immediately, and gave us a few moments to order. We decided to share two pizzas between us: the Colony, and the margarita. We'd previously had the colony at their west village restaurant location, and I would have to recommend this as a must-get. With slices of pepperoni, and a drizzle of honey, it's not hard to see why this is one of their most popular pizzas. The margarita pizza was something we could have done without. As Emmy squared serves thicker, Detroit-style pizzas, I feel like the thicker base of these pizzas are more suited to heavier toppings, rather than the lighter Neapolitan style pizzas which are suited to having just a few. It was not bad, but we both thought we would have enjoyed another pizza with more toppings even more. Service was friendly and efficient. The ambience here would suit diners looking for a casual meal, and prices are likewise reflected. This is a solid spot downtown for anyone looking for Detroit style pizzas and hearty food. More...
