We had an opening/closing issue with our garage door on Saturday afternoon and needed someone to repair it ASAP so that we didn't have to live with a half-open garage door for very long. Called Elite to get an estimate on a garage tune up and Hector was very helpful in answering my questions. He also gave me some advice on how to get my garage door from sticking when opening that I could do myself. I had him come out and he did a great job of replacing the weather striping around my 2 garage doors, did a a tune up and I also bought 2 universal garage door remotes from him, which he programmed, ours were old and not working well. Â He also showed me how to lube the rollers and the springs and the garage door opener and said to do it once a year. He did a great job and and his prices were reasonable. I would give it 10 stars!! Â That's how impressed I was with the service Hector provided. Â My garage door springs broke and I couldn't get the door open to get the car out. Â Since this was on a Sunday, and my wife need the car to get to work early Monday morning, I had to get the door repaired the Sunday before. Â Hector was referred to me by a good friend and I'm so glad he did because the service was great (he was out within an hour of me calling) he was friendly, knowledgeable and very professional. Â All in all it was a great experience. Â I will use him for all my garage door problems in the future. Â Whenever my existing garage door opener fails, I'll be calling Hector to replace it with a LiftMaster door opener. Our regular garage door guy was out of town, or something, either way he didn't return our call so we took a look thru the BBB book and found Hector and Jinno. Â They came over during the holiday weekend and took care of the garage door issues, even gave the other door a tune up for free. Â Nice guys, good work and a fair price, they also explained everything we needed to know about our garage doors and how to keep them working smoothly. If you are looking for reliable and trustworthy service, call Elite Doors Systems. My garage door is the original door and opener since the house was built in 97. Before the appointment, I was pretty sure the whole neighborhood could hear my garage door open and close. The spring had broken, was really loud, and the sweep had cracked and broken off from years of wear and tear. Hector and Gino came and fixed it to where I can't even hear it open now. What do you love most about your job?
Helping others. Garage doors break at the worst possible time. We love helping people out of bad situations. The garage door is critical to the continual function of most people's lives. Most people use it as their entry door into their home and we take if for granted. This large, heavy appliance goes up and down until it doesn't and that's when you call us to come and save the day. Your door is going to fail on the day of your big meeting, child's championship game, piano recital, audition for the lead in the school play, or opening night. We enjoy saving the day and being the hero!
Of course you could greatly minimize the possibility of total door failure and the cost/damage when the door fails completely. Major repair is a major headache, inconvenient, and unnecessary. These scenarios can be avoided with regular maintenance and annual tune-ups. Part of our process of every service call is to show the customer what they can do to extend the life of their door and to schedule an annual tune-up. We can schedule it at the time the service is completed and remind you a week ahead of the appointment in case we have to reschedule. A lot can happen in a year but it becomes one less thing that you need to think about. Just set it and forget it.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I was inspired to start my own business because I saw the industry status quo and I knew I could do better. I worked for enough garage door companies in San Diego and talked with enough customers to know there was a better way then what was being asked of me. These standard practices in the garage door industry were very deceptive and didn't settle well with my conscious.
I had a background in mechanics and have been working with my hands and repairing things my whole life. I was getting paired up with these sales guys who were great when talking to a customer and getting them to by a bunch of products and services they don't need but they had no background in repair. Sometimes I actually got to witness them using tools for the first time in their lives. They were salespeople being taught how to "kind-of" fix garage doors. This didn't settle well with me. Most of the big garage door companies now hire salespeople and teach them how to "fix garage doors to fail." Meaning they fix the door just long enough to have the door fail outside of any labor warranties.
I wasn't creating residual customers and these salespeople were being rotated through these unsuspecting customers to be sold more parts. The industry became all about selling services and repairs for as much as you possibly can get and the repairs I was doing were staying fixed and reducing the residual customer not increasing the amount of repairs each customer should have per year.
I was admonished for my honest approach while the salespeople with poor repair skills and their band-aid approach to fixing garage doors were being celebrated for their sales volume and the average price of each job. It was absurd and I couldn't wrap my head around this approach. It was only about the dollar. It wasn't about trust and loyalty to the customers. I also wouldn't hold a garage door for ransom and demand some absurd price to finish/fix the door or leave it more broken then when they arrived. That is still a really disgusting practice that many San Diego garage door repair and installation providers still practice. The closer I looked at the industry the more disgusted I became and I knew there was only one thing I could do.
That's when I decided that I would start my own company and do it the right way. Fix a garage door the Elite way; the right way the first time and fix it to where there isn't any more issues for years at a time. I am not in this to make a quick buck. I'm in this for the long haul. My customers are mine for life. I live in your neighborhood. My kid goes to school with your kids. I'm part of the community and I take that seriously.
