The star of El Gaucho was the phenomenal service, our waitress was extremely kind and attentive. Not once did we have to pour a single glass of wine and as a wine guzzler myself, she was exceptionally on point. The atmosphere itself is nice and cozy. The tables can be a bit close together but thankfully we were positioned with space in between, crowded days I imagine might impact the dining experience. There was live music playing as well which was nice and upbeat, not too loud or chaotic, which was a nice touch.Food, while pricey, was absolutely delicious. Portions are small so order some side dishes along with your dinner. My only issue on food were the crab cocktail starters and the oysters. The crab cocktail left much to be desired and overall a regrettable purchase. The oysters weren't terrible but likewise, was regrettable, there are far better options for oysters for a similar price point.Overall I had a great experience They even gave us a platter of cheese and fruit as a free service at the end. My wife and I celebrated our 19th here, the hospitality was great! Douglas our sever was on point! The ambiance was great! When reserving a table, it was a snap online and I requested a red rose for the table, they met my expectations above and beyond. Yes the price is higher, but the food was fantastic! For the appetizer we had the Escargot, delicious! Prefect blend of buttery, garlic and herbs. Ceasar Salad is made table side and was terrific!We both had the Baseball Cut Sirloin, perfectly cooked and great flavor, I had mine with a baked potato and she had the asparagus. We chose El Gaucho to conclude a business summit in Portland based on a great experience at a Christmas party nearly 10 years ago and again had my expectations exceeded by the quality of food-- but especially by the attention of our server Sundiata. Our entire group was comprised of sales professionals and very quickly we were all taking notes on Sundiata's enthusiasm, heart, delivery and cadence. He made our night.
