Our cute, but big, stubborn and strong 7 month old puppies were impossible for me or my kids to walk. Even though they loved their walks, they would pull or get distracted and not keep walking or bark aggressively at other dogs to the point of almost starting fights. So they weren't walked. And when dogs aren't walked, they get destructive. And when a pair of 70 lb puppies get destructive, no one is happy.I met Mark Lipes at an event I was doing in Los Olivos and we chatted about his company Dog and Pooch in Orcutt which specializes in a week long boarding and training program. Over the next month or two, I thought about it as I watched the downward spiral of my two sweet pups. I gave him a call and we set up a drop off day and time.On the Sunday I was set to bring my dogs in, I had them on their leashes and could barely make it the short distance between my van and his front door. They were tugging, pulling, jumping and twisting. I got them inside eventually and they settled into their crates while Mark and I spoke about what to expect that week. During the week they were gone, I received dozens of videos of my dogs' progress. Mark had them walking calmly on a leash by the second day. They learned to go and stay on their bed, to come, to leave it and to heel. He took them for walks and short hikes at the park several times a day. They quickly progressed to being able to be off leash during quiet walks (without other dogs or people around).I picked them up this past Sunday and although they were clearly excited to see me, it wasn't the uncontrollable jumping (like knock me over energy) I was kind of dreading. They were so much more calm! Mark had me take them for a few walks while he observed and taught me the basics of what they had learned so I could continue the training at home. The dogs were awesome and I was eager to take them home and see how did they did there.Yesterday was the first day I took them out for walks. The first time, I had them on leash the entire time, but could control both of them by barely holding both leashes with one hand. No superhuman strength needed! The second walk, I took them off leash for the majority of the time and my daughter took a video of it. So easy, so enjoyable! I actually look forward to walking them again today. After their walks, they were calm and sleepy and napped. No more of that negative energy they had before.I highly recommend Mark and his training program! More...

Mark was amazing with our very hyper (and now reformed) golden retriever Rusty. I was kept up to date on everyday progress with videos. I know people look at the price of training and get nervous about it but I am telling you it is worth every penny. We were pushed to do it because we bought a new house and didn't want it destroyed and I can honestly say I wish I can afford to do ALL my dogs. Rusty is a changed dog and is no longer the nuisance he was. Mark brought out the good and the potential in rusty and I can not recommend him more. Also the best part is that Mark TEACHES you how to continue the training to make your dog the best dog he can be! I couldn’t imagine the difference a week would make for my dogs! And what difference they have made! (It really was like seeing a different dog! ) We had tried everything when it came to aggression. We tried dog behavioralists who would use treats to help... dog trainers who helped us get the dogs to “learn” the commands but our dogs would chose not to follow or listen to us after awhile. This is where we lost our minds... and I tell you, my dogs were BAD! The little one would bite people and the older one would growl at every dog and person he met. They soon became a terrible pair to take hiking, camping, the casual walk. Now, after their stay at dognpooch we can walk them with control and confidence that they won’t hurt someone else. Mark really has given us our family back and I am excited to continue our training so we can keep our dogs in our family! More...

So #2 son finds a stray mutt in DTLA (Fig & 34th, hence the name Felix) and in spite of all my protests, brings him home.. . and it's love. I've had a few dogs and never used a trainer but life is full, and if I'm keeping this dog it's gotta be easy. I had met Mark through a dear friend, an animal rights advocate, who if she trusts him with her dogs then I trust him with mine. I'm so glad I did. Mark relates to our canine companions (maybe better than people) and the hounds know it and appreciate his deep understanding. Animal lovers: do not be afraid of the e-collar! You'll hold it in your hand and wonder what all the fuss is about. It's a small but crucial part of his technique and like all tools there is good use and abuse. His I found totally appropriate. Mark innately knows each dog's personality and tunes in to their strengths, speaking to them clearly and gently. I could not believe the transformation that was happening before my eyes over the several videos he sent each day of Felix responding to commands and walking attentively next to Mark, actually heeling! Not a robo-dog, but in his face I could see he was being the dog he was always wanting to be. You love your dog, I promise you will love him EVEN MORE after his week with Mark. A dog who sits on command? Goes to his bed when told to? Hikes placidly off leash Worth every single penny. My only heads up: the rest is up to you. Ask lots of questions. Listen to Mark. Follow through and you'll have the dog of your dreams. More...

Mark works wonders! First he helped clear up the negative rumors of e-collars........then he trained our dog! We found it impossible to train our hunting breed to stop running after every bird or bug she found, with treats and praise alone, but I was afraid of using an e-collar. Mark helped me understand how gentle it was, sent videos of other dogs being trained, and allowed me to feel the correction myself. After Mark started working with our dog, he continually sent videos of her progress so that we could be assured that she was responding well, and also so that we could see his techniques to replicate them at home. The change in our dog was absolutely miraculous! With no way to fence her, she would continually leave our yard area to chase wildlife and run all over our extended property. We had to chase her everywhere. She is now focused, knows her boundaries and almost always responds to our voice alone. We can walk her all over the neighborhood without a leash and she heels with minimal verbal input. When she sees wildlife, a 'leave it' command is usually all it takes. We have a strong, athletic breed and it was getting to be a losing battle against her strength with a prong collar and treats alone. Mark is truly the driving force behind it all. His level of communication is outstanding! We received several videos of our dog every day, and Mark is always willing to answer any question we have, and even knows in advance what we may need to know. His level of care is obvious as he bonds with each dog, and genuinely celebrates their achievements. I am not sure where we would be without Mark's input. He changed our relationship with our dog in a overwhelming way. He is genuinely an amazingly talented, and caring person....and a complete joy to be around. More...

She had selective hearing, would growl and bark at men that passed by me, would cross in front and around me while walking her, and would not lay down or stay put anywhere on command.Mark’s assitance and communication was beyond 5 stars. Weeks before I paid him he was more than happy to answer any questions I had about his training and how he could help Leia’s problems. After the first day I could already see improvement with her through the videos he sent me. She was walking perfectly beside him after the first/second day. Only a couple more days and she had mastered “place”. Mark sent me videos throughout the whole training to keep me updated to her progress, I knew she was in the right hands. This training also helped with Leia’s confidence with people and socialization with other dogs, because before she was quite skittish. Mark did absolute wonders with our dog, Cooper. He came to us with a bit of “Napoleon-syndrome” and got to the point where I wasn’t comfortable walking him by myself. He would growl, lunge at and bark at other dogs, cats and people. He also was incredibly reactive to people/animals on the otherside of the fence. We reached out to Mark on a Sunday morning just an hour before we were going to drop cooper off at a three week camp. Mark walked us through some of Cooper’s issues and gave us advice on how to handle his barking at home - he told us it was something we could easily handle at home rather than try to weasel any more money from us. He sent us videos and we signed him up for a week of training. Cooper went off to training and within a couple hours Mark was sending us videos. We consistently communicated through the videos and we watched Cooper become an incredibly well-behaved dog. Cooper is excellent to walk with, always listens and is now the best behaved dog on the block. He never embarrasses and I’m never worried how he might react to something. Let me preface by saying we are thrilled with Marks training of our boy Morty! After looking into a sever different local trainers, we found Mark and decided to put our dog into a 1 week board and train with Dog n Pooch. This was the best decision! Morty is a husky/cattle dog mix, so naturally he has boundless energy at most hours of the day. Since we rescued him about 3 months ago, he has relentlessly pulled on the leash and barked/pawed at us for attention. Being a husky, we've never trusted him off leash due to their natural inclination to run off, which he had done twice before. We tried everything we could to fix his behavior but had minimal to no success.Within the first day of Mortys training, Mark had him walking nicely on the leash and learning "place" in the house (this was super important to us as Morty would jump all over us on the couch). Mark sends multiple videos a day of the training process so that you can learn along with your pup, as well as put your mind at ease if you're worried about the board and train concept. Since we picked Morty up yesterday, we've gone on the best walks we've ever had (no pulling at all). He instantly understood where his "place" is in the house, and stays there until we tell him to come. In general, he is completely off-leash trained, calmer, doesn't bark, walks nice and stays in his place. We also feel comfortable taking him to the dog park and on all of our adventures now! We are super thankful for Mark and his training! Our goal was to find a way to communicate with Morty and let him live his best life, and we achieved that! I would highly recommend his services to anyone seeking help for their dog. Worth every penny. More...

My dog, Cody stayed with Mark for a week for training. I'm honestly still blown away by Cody's amazing transformation. We adopted Cody last summer and right away I took him to basic obedience class and he did OK but he needed more, something different. Before he trained with Mark, sometimes he'd listen but not most of the time. He was pretty hyper on walks to the point that I hated walking him by myself. He had major cat issues and had an incident with another dog. He was just very stubborn and thought he was in charge. Mark changed all of that!! In fact, the week that Cody spent with him changed his total mind set. He is a totally different dog now, the dog I've always wanted. This dog now knows his place and that he is not in charge anymore, LOL. Mark sent me many videos throughout the week of how he was training Cody and what was going on which was super helpful to me and my family. I re-watched those videos over and over so that I know what I need to do for my dog. Mark also met with us a couple days before we picked Cody up and went over everything...what to do, what not to do etc.. Also, he gave us some insight on Cody's personality and how to handle situations that may arise. I even send Mark videos of what I'm doing with Cody and he gets back to me right away with his feedback. He really does care about my dog's success. Cody gets walked 2-3 times a day because everyone here just loves to walk him now, he goes with us to the lake, baseball field and other places. Cody is calm and relaxed and we are very happy. Thank you Mark. You truly changed our lives for the better.

She is now a perfect family dog and so much more calm. We can't saw enough good things about his training. He sent lots of videos and let us know how she was doing every step of the way. More...

We are so grateful to Mark. He really helped us understand what our dog needed and gave us a way to communicate with him. We were so lost with how to train our dog before Mark came along . We got terrible advice. Our dog had so many fears. Mark gave us a way to build our dog's confidence. He is now a happier and healthier member of our family. We couldn't have done it without Mark. The next dog we get will go straight to Mark for training. I would recommended Mark to anyone, whether your dog has major issues or just needs to learn to walk better. More...

Mark is a game changer!! We brought our crazy little french bulldog, who had mind of his own and  would run out our front door, given the opportunity! Not safe! After having him for a week, he is so much more well mannered and hasn't ran out the front door once! Thanks to Mark our pooch is safe and a pleasure to be with! More...

Here's a shout out to our dog trainer Mark Lipes for the amazing job he has done with our wild boys.  While we were enjoying Paradise our boys got to go to Doggy Bootcamp and learn how to listen and be good dogs.  We got to take them for a hassle free walk last night and I couldn't believe the ease.  They are different dogs. I highly recommend Mark to help you with your pups!  I have to add more about how amazing Mark is.   Our Bailey was a rescue that was a street dog for four years.  He came with a host of problems from food aggression issues, to escape issues, to inability to walk in any sort of civil way.  He failed twice with another trainer who told me I should have a "coming to Jesus conversation with my family on bringing Bailey back or getting rid of him".  In her words, "Bailey was much too much dog for me."  I am not one of give up in a difficult situation.  Thank goodness a friend told me about Mark.  He got both my boys, Murphy and Bailey to become two very obedient dogs.  Thank you Mark.  We appreciate you so much! Koa, my shepherd mix puppy was a train wreck. From jumping up on us to stealing everything and being wild, she needed help. Mark transformed her behavior. I have never had a dog who is off-leash trained. She is reliable, stays close and listens to commands over a year later. I recommend Mark to everyone!! More...
