About

I specialize in a type of therapy that believes your problem or issue is not who you are. It lives in the world, not in you. In narrative therapy we put your problem out in front of us, then step back and examine it. Looking at the problem as separate from you helps you understand it better.

I'm not sure I'm eloquent enough to articulate how wonderful Sarah is; not just as a mental health counselor but as a person. It's easily taken for granted that therapists are inherently caring and altruistic people - and I'm sure many are - but what has impressed me most about Sarah is that even as a colleague her integrity and authentic compassion is so abundantly clear that you can't help but admire her and her work! She's relentlessly committed to her craft and providing the best therapy services humanly possible. She's curious, open-minded, extremely intelligent, and the most empathetic person I think I've ever met. I don't know if there are any more valuable traits for a counselor/therapist to possess. I'm a huge advocate of destigmatizing mental health/illness and I'm so happy to know Sarah and be able to co-manage patients with her. I think one of the most important things people can understand is the spectrum of mental states - from "normal"(as if that's a thing)/healthy to severe mental illness - that can yield tremendous value from working with someone like Sarah. She's particularly knowledgable and skilled with (but not limited to) men's issues and trauma. Many men don't know how to identify issues they struggle with and it's tremendously impactful for them to work with a counselor who is very able to help that group feel empowered. I'm not sure of any topics more sensitive than trauma so I think it goes without saying how vitally important it is for someone to be well experienced in helping people who have experienced any type of trauma. As a healthcare professional, I can't explain how important it is to me to have someone like Sarah that I know will help the people I send to her. She is everything you want in a mental health counselor! More...

Q&As

I am passionate about setting people free from the influences of problems and I completely love hearing new stories every day. I have the best job in the world because I get to be a witness to change.

I used to work in community mental health but found that my hands were tied and they tried to make me use therapeutic modalities that I didn't believe in. I love narrative therapy and wanted a chance to give every client the highest possible level of care, so I founded Denver Narrative Therapy Project. The word "project" indicates that the practice is always ongoing and being shaped by the feedback and needs of my clients. We are creating this practice together, in collaboration and with hope.

In our work together, you don’t need to hide the thing about you that others—or you—find problematic, difficult or unacceptable. You get to be unique and interesting. I’m not afraid of what’s going on with you, no matter how big or scary you think it is. On the contrary, I welcome it.

Services

Organizations are made up of relationships and I combine my background in corporate finance/HR with my leadership skills and counseling practices to provide training and consulting to forward thinking businesses. I am a great fit for mediation, restructuring, mergers, information gathering, leadership trainings and other struggles that organizations encounter.
