What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The secret to taking a great photograph is effective communication. Effective communication begins with the photographer and the client; as the photographer, it's my job to elicit from my client what it is that they want the image to say, and who they want to say it to. Only when I understand that can I create a photograph that communicates clearly with the viewer. When I package that communication in a beautiful image that attracts the viewer, the communication becomes truly effective and the photograph becomes great.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
The questions I'll ask a client begin with 'How will the image be used?' (Brochure, display ad, P.R., gallery, listing, etc.; online, printed piece)
"What are you trying to say with the photograph?" (Quality, design, price; luxurious, spacious, clean, stylish.)
"What is your audience?" (Home owner's, consumer's, business, corporate; high end, middle-of-the-road, budget-minded)
What do you love most about your job?
I love creating beautiful images, and creating images that communicate beautifully. Creating an image that does both is the ideal.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I love photography and having my own business allows me to do the type of work I enjoy.
