The pizza is excellent. The rest of the market offers freshly made sandwiches, dinners etc to go. A nice selection of pastries and deserts makes this an excellent grab N go for this terrific college town.

D'Angelo's catered our daughter's wedding reception for 200 in June 2019, and we cannot recommend them too highly. The food was fabulous!!! We had a buffet for all palates--meat, vegetarian, vegan. The food was high-quality, hearty, plentiful, and varied; many guests commented on how delicious the fare was. Frank D'Angelo helped us plan and choose the menu; he was very helpful, knowledgeable, competent. professional, reassuring and easy to work with. D'Angelo's catering is also very affordable for the excellent food and service received. We encourage you to sample D'Angelo's food at their market, meet the friendly folks who will prepare the food for your event, and feel good about patronizing an outstanding family business. More...

Honestly, I do not know how this place doesn't get acclaim being at its location. Instead of walking down Nassau Street to get a subpar Hoagie Haven sandwich. Why not stop to a very authentic, friendly, enjoyable plave in the heart of Princeton.I always order a hero, or as we say in Philadelphia, a hoagie, from this establishment as it might not be the biggest sandwich you've seen, but it definitely leaves you filled and not wanting more until you get hungry again. I even got to try the arancini Siciliani and the well known Sicilian dessert cannoli. I must say, this might be one of the top three best cannoli joints you could find from Philadelphia, New York, and anywhere in between. it gives our Italian Market a good run for its money, which is difficult to do.All I can say is, after I secure a bag of excellent vinyl from up the street, I have to grab a bite to eat from this establishment.Grazie mille. Tu sei un santo per il cibo Italiano negli stati uniti. Io spero tutte le gente imparano del tuo nome.Grazie mille e Italiani per sempre. More...

This place is amazing! They have such a cool set up and such an amazing selection of foods. All of the food is made with super high quality ingredients and is super fresh. They have a little market where I believe you can purchase some packaged foods. Then they have a section where you could get lunch meats or sandwiches. They were making hot and cold sandwiches and wraps. They have a traditional Italian sides section so if you want to get some sides they have that and look super great. They then had a huge display and variety of Italian desserts. The final section they have is a pizza section, which is what I got when I went there. I got a slice of cheese and a Chicken Parm Roll. The cheese slice was super solid and I would definitely get it again. The Chicken Parm Roll was one of the best things I have had in a while. It was a basically a Stromboli with bread chicken on the inside. The roll was cooked so nicely and I liked it more than a Stromboli because of the fact that it just didn't get as soft or soggy as a Stromboli roll. I feel like at times a Stromboli may not always have a nice crunch or crisp outside, but this was not the case with the roll. The inside of the roll was also packed stuff with breaded chicken. I do not think I had one bite with out chicken. Overall, this place was great and am certainly looking forward to going back again. More...

Amazing all around. We have gone there for several years for sandwiches, fresh cut meats (we love their thin sliced chicken cutlets to make our family dinners), cookies, and food from the pizzeria section. Everything is always amazing. Yesterday we tried their catering for the first time for our son's baptism lunch (30+ people at our home). Everything was incredible. They even delivered for FREE and set up sterno racks and water trays for the food, etc. All of the hot food was delicious and people raved about the footlong subs. I was so impressed with the professionalism and care that D'Angelos put into our order, from beginning with helping us determine the right amount of food for our party, through the end with delivery. I will be doing catering from them again with no question. More...

It's not cheap, but dang it's good! Five stars if it were a bargain, and depending upon what you are looking for, some of it is more or less average  price for the area... but let's talk quality! Best bread!!! Amazing and I mean soooooooo good homemade marinara sauce in the refrigerator section. FRESH fuscilli!!! And in the prepared foods section, the best eggplant I have ever eaten, I kid you not! Rollatini was sweet, tempered and smooth, though I didn't eat the stuffing, and last time when I had the eggplant stacks I also didn't eat the cheese and again, fantastic not at all bitter. And, they had all of the candies, snacks, cheeses and packaged goods from my childhood- a treat for my mum when visiting ( this is the more pricey part- the imports or Italian known brands) Parking isn't easy, but somehow I usually find a spot somewhat close by. D'Angelos certainly does it right! More...

Very large sandwiches here! Most are only $9.95, with some a few dollars more or less. The eggplant parmigiana sandwich was delicious, with olive oil on the bread and the bread toasted. The Einstein sandwich bread in comparison was a bit chewy, not toasted. The entire sandwich was cold, which I'm sure is how it's supposed to be served, but i would request the bread toasted next time and maybe the chicken heated too so the cheese melts. It's more of a club sandwich than anything.I would love to come back and try their sliced meats and cheeses and the interesting flavors of bagged chips.Great value and quick service! More...

i recently discovered D'Angelo when in the search for a reasonably priced sandwich. i've gone to nearly every restaurant in princeton but had never really thought of going to d'angelo until i passed by on my way out of the library parking lot. i'm really glad i did, because i was blown away by the huge selection of sandwiches, pastas, pizzas, cookies, and pastries the market has to offer. i really liked the homey feel inside and the opportunity for both indoor and outdoor seating. there were different sections for pizza, pasta, and deli options/sandwiches.i got a fried chicken cutlet einstein on a roll, sans avocado since they had just run out, which was veryyy substantial, very filling, and very delicious. the cutlet was thick, and the perfect level of crispy, and i appreciated their using flavorful cheese, as well as fresh lettuce and tomato. (the tomato was not originally in the sandwich, but i asked them to add it.) my friend got a signature d'angelo sandwich on a hero which was the same way. both sandwiches' bread was obviously fresh, with a crisp exterior and a soft interior. the obvious quality of the ingredients of our sandwiches, from the bread to the bacon, was a game-changer. major kudos to d'angelo!!! D'Angelo's is my religion. I would eat here every day if I could, and I practically do. The utility/cost ratio is an incalculably large number. Seriously, the sandwiches cost $9, and they're the size of a rugby ball. A rugby ball woven with Sicilian ambrosia. Cooked fresh to order. The atmosphere rocks. There's a real community spirit at D'Angelo's, because everyone eats here. The workers are friendly and down-to-earth. Good music. Free internet too. And beautiful street-side tables with flowers when the weather is nice. Recommended sandwiches (all served on freshly baked bread): *Princeton Tiger on a hero (chicken cutlet, house vodka sauce, homemade mozzarella)*Basilicata (certain people, like the self-proclaimed fat guy, are the best at making this: chicken cutlet, avocado, radicchio, basil pesto mayo, olive oil)*Wild Turkey (freshly sliced Boar's Head turkey, bleu cheese, sweet/hot pepper sauce, red onion, leaf lettuce)Rec'd Pizza-bar items: *Parmense personal pie (prosciutto, parmesan, fresh arugula)*Chicken-parmesan stuffed roll Rec'd Prepared foods: *Sicilian arancini (a fried rice ball with mozzarella, minced meats, and peas)*Broccoli rabe ravioli Rec'd Desserts: *Fig cookies (cucidati)*Homemade browniesThis place is a miracle. I stopped in D'Angelo during my last trip to Princeton. I'd passed by this corner Italian market all the time, but never had the chance to go inside. I was killing time while waiting for my partner to finish up at the Princeton Record Exchange, so I walked down the street and peeped it out. It was more than what I expected. I had figured it sold just Italian food and products. Yes, there are Italian food items and products, but there was also a selection of higher-quality grocery items and healthy, ready-made meals (organic and vegetarian friendly food). There's also both indoor and outdoor seating. A big plus is that it is conveniently located very close to the parking deck. Now I make sure to stop in whenever I'm in town and pick up a little something to bring back to my kitchen (or enjoy on the ride back home). More...

Thank christ almighty someone in this town knows how to make a pizza. Moved from miami recently where there is almost no good pizza. Couldn't wait to get to Princeton where I figured good pizza would abound. Then I try all the garbage-to-mediocre places on Nassau. Then Conte's, which is an improvement, but still not great. Can't say I have a lot of experience with them but I am a fan, and would visit here again if I'm in the area. We were on vacation and didn't want to go all the way to NYC to get some true Italian food. We ordered a pizza and bought some groceries to take home, bread and sausage. I think the food here is as good as places in Little Italy at a lower cost. Really enjoyed the pizza and the bread and sausage we took home. Anyone that lives, goes to school, or works in the area is spoiled. Wish we had something like this at home! More...

This place was a gem of a find. We were able to get food quickly on our way out of Princeton. They have a lot of options, we tried the pizza and some cookies. I go here for lunch every time I visit Princeton. They have such great food already prepared for you to eat. Pizza, salads, sanwiches, pastas, desserts. It's a little pricey, but everything is fresh and tastes great. Had the Chicken Parm Pizza today and it was banging! Love the Italian sodas and Dirty Potato Chips. Even picked up some Orange & White cookies to take home. I dare you to walk into this place and not buy something. Always something different to wet your appetite.Tip: Get here early for the biggest selection. Seating can also be limited when the lunch crowd comes in to eat. More...

Very confused by the negative reviews. The food and service are great. We have been going to this place since they opened about 5 years ago. We have never had a bad meal. The food is always fresh and is 100% authentic Italian. The current owners are direct descendants from the turn of the century sicilian family in the pictures on the wall. This family takes pride in their work. The food they cook has so much love. We've never had a problem with service. They have always been more than polite to my family. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for an authentic Italian meal. More...

D'Angelo 4 stars for food and no stars for the service behind the pizza counter. Luckily, I'm giving them the full 4 stars for this review. This place is legit Italian food. You can't go wrong. Love their pizza and cheese steak. Their groceries are worth checking out too. The service behind the grill area is good. The service in the pizza area is not so good. The employees always look and sound pissed off. It's usually a guy and a girl. Both look miserable to be there and less than happy to serve their customers.  Adds a sour tone to an otherwise mostly positive experience. More...

I would give this place a full 5 stars if we were talking about their pizza, deserts, and selection of Italian groceries and packaged products. I've also had a fried eggplant sandwich here that was one of the best I've ever had. However, some of the other sandwiches (frittata, grilled eggplant) and salads I've had here (mixed greens w vinaigrette, tasted like it had been sitting and was really stale and bland anyway) were pretty terrible. The sandwiches (even the good ones actually) always made my stomach upset from how heavy and greasy they were and I'm someone who downed 20 white castles easy a few times in my early 20s so I'm not sensitive to these things. Also, had penne vodka that was decent, probably above average in taste, but was 1:1 sauce to penne, just ended up hungry with a giant container of sauce afterward.TLDR: stick w the deserts (cannoli w chocolate covering especially), pizza, and fried eggplant sandwich for a 5/5. Stay away from some of the grilled or egg/bland sandwiches unless you enjoy heartburn and no taste More...

Experience was great! Food was delicious, and everything was EASY from “get go”! And in my opinion, prices were reasonable. My boss recommended D’Angelo’s for catering and I’m so glad I listened to the boss. :-) Called up less than a week before the party, spoke with Danielle who couldn’t have been more helpful or accommodating. Found out they delivered to Bridgewater for just a nominal fee which was great. Received a call the day before the party confirming everything. Delivery guy showed up on time and set everything up for me. I didn’t even have to tell him where to find a pitcher for the sterno water. I was crazed preparing for my guests to arrive so it was really nice that he did his thing without needing me. Food was great and there was plenty of it. It was so nice not to have to worry about the main course. Would highly recommend for anyone with catering needs and I’ll definitely be using again. More...

Think Citarella or Eataly in New York, but on a smaller scale. Located on the corner of S. Tulane and Spring Streets, D'Angelo is a combination grocery store/deli with an extensive section of prepared foods that is heavily weighted towards Italian foods. If you found an amazing brand of cookies in Firenze or Roma and have had no luck unearthing it in the hinterlands of Princeton, try D'Angelo! There's a strong chance they'll have it.I typically come here for their prepared foods, which are very good. They are one of my go-to spots for a late lunch/early dinner when I'm running my errands downtown. That being said, aside from the occasional fruit, I don't buy my regular groceries here. The prices are exce$$ive. Indeed, they make Whole Foods look like an absolute steal!Still it's a great option for specialty items and lunch. More...

I challenge you to tell me where in Princeton you can find a better Italian "sangwhich" to satisfy your cholesterol cravings. Deangelo is an unsuspecting Italian market tucked away on a street corner. Wide variety of sandwiches to choose from as well as pizza, fresh salads, and other Italian foods to take away. I got the Nassau street sandwich on a long roll and it was worth every calorie. Freshly sliced prosciutto, wet mozzarella, roasted tomatoes, and balsamic. To die for. I believe it was about 12 bucks. The grocery items are so overpriced it's laughable so I wouldn't recommend making this your weekly grocery option. But for a quick Italian sangwich while roaming around Princeton? While walking around Princeton, I stumbled upon this little gem tucked away off the beaten path. From the outside, it looks like a nice Italian deli, but on the inside, it's so much more.Upon entering, I was immediately reminded of Eataly in NYC. It's a fairly  large venue with an incredible amount of food options, both hot and cold. As you walk around the place, it almost seems never ending for a place you originally thought was going to be small. They have a fresh pizza station, sandwich station, salad station, hot food station and cold food station. They also have a smaller sized section for grocery shopping, the majority of items being Italian products. Everything from meat to produce can be found in this mini supermarket section, including a large variation of cheeses. As for me, I got a plate of balsamic ravioli with a side of sautéed vegetables. I didn't know what to expect from this dish, but man was it delicious. The ravioli was excellent and had just the right amount of cheese inside. The veggies were sautéed perfectly, which is rarely done at food buffets/delis. The freshness of both dishes suggested they were made not too long before. There's a good amount of seating spread through out the place and apparently they have outside seating during the warmer months. Both offer a great opportunity to enjoy the food while it's still fresh and relax. The staff is also very helpful and guides newcomers through all their options. This is a great option on the Princeton food scene. I will absolutely be coming here frequently and trying all they have to offer. Great spot. More...

I have never actually dined at the establishment. I use D'Angelos on a weekly basis for catering. If you work in the Princeton area and need a lunch catered, you cannot go wrong with this place. Placing an order is easy and the staff is always very helpful. The salads and fruit platters are extremely fresh. A customer of mine told me once that he took the large family style house salad home and ate it for a whole week because it stayed so fresh! Even in the winter, the fruit is sweet and delicious. The platter arrangements are always beautiful. My favorite is the assorted hero try. The eggplant with roasted pepper spread and mozzarella is amazing. The chicken cutlet is great, too. All the sandwiches are good. The break is the best part. Whenever I use d'angelos for catering, the official always gives rave reviews. Delicious Italian food! I stopped in here to get a quick bite. Walking in, the market offers a vast selection of deli, cheeses and pre made food. I ordered a Meatball Stromboli looking item from their made to order section. Very affordable. The taste was pretty good. Nothing spectacular. I wish I knew more about what they could offer here. The atmosphere at 6:30 pm is that they were ready to close and they were ready for everyone to go. Also, be wary of parking. Luckily there are parking decks but understand this place doesn't have their own parking lot for you to park if you plan on driving there. I need to give this place another shot based off of their food and selection. The experience wasn't my favorite but that could be based off of the time and day I went. I love italian markets, and D'Angelo's is no exception in that regard :)D'Angelo's is pretty large for an italian market, and the selection is great! I'm a sucker for sweets so here's what I get at the bakery and dessert refrigerator:-cannolis! They make them well. WAY better than Olives cannolis. The shell is flaky and crispy, while the ricotta inside is creamy and lightly sweet.-mini lemon pies! I haven't seen these around for a while, but if you see them, get them! They are little delicious crispy powdered-sugar-coated lemon-filled pies. -almond mascarpone custard: this is in the refrigerator section. It's sweet almond flavored mascarpone custard with chocolate fudge on the bottom and chocolate shavings on top. Really unique flavor, very sweet though!-triple chocolate mousse: LOVE this. I think it's named incorrectly though. It's a layer of white whipped cream on top, then a layer of hazelnut milk chocolate in the middle, then some rich dark chocolate ganache on the bottom. There are pieces of some sort of caramel nut chocolate mixed throughout that makes it taste like ferrero rocher, love it.There's a pretty big selection of salads, pizzas, pastas, and other hot food, but I come for the sugar. It is also one of North Americas highest rent districts and that applies to running a large storefront. Their meats, chicken and prepared Italian food are first rate. Pretty great Italian food. This place catered the pre Super Bowl VIP party, so that's something. They frequently have contests where you can win large jars of Nutella or free pizza, which is a bonus. They used to have a 10% discount for checking-in on Yelp, but I think that's since been discontinued, unfortunately. The Nutella pizza is a fan favourite. The Margherita pizza has pretty great homemade mozzarella, but is far too salty. The actual grocery store has the best selection of European products anywhere around, including the much coveted European Nutella - which has a distinctly more pronounced hazelnut flavour than its American counterpart. A couple of co-workers recommended we stop here for lunch while we were in Princeton. Once they mentioned that D'Angelo's catered our work Christmas party last year, I was completely on board, reminiscing how good my two to three plates of food were at the time.I was first shocked by how large the market is. That, and how many great options there are to choose from...Paninis, Stromboli, stone oven pizzas, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, chicken parmigiana, pasta and a large salad bar. There is also a butcher, various produce and a bakery filled with all sorts of sweet pastries, cookies, cheesecake and cannolis.Even better though, is their quality equally matches their quantity. After struggling over all their appetizing selections, I finally decided on the Stromboli and didn't regret it. However, I felt I could have closed my eyes, pointed at anything on the menu and not have been disappointed. D'Angelo's is an overall excellent, family run business. Delicious Italian food with plenty of variety, meaning that there will definitely be something for everyone. There's a deli that offers made to order sandwiches including some interesting regional specialty ones. I had one with roasted eggplants with squash and it was underwhelming - the vegetables were cold and the bread a bit too hard to chew. Skip it.Still hungry, I decided to also get the Alle Vongole Rosso with Spaghettini. Delicious. The sauce was light, but savory, so that it complemented the pasta without overwhelming it. Plus there were a lot of clam pieces and a nice sprinkle of salt. Overall, it was perfectly cooked, including the chunks of garlic (which were at point where they are somewhat sweet and not yet bitter). They also have a delicious looking selection of desserts (both baked ones and frozen ones). There are also great selections of pasta and cheese and anything for anyone looking to make a delicious Italian meal. D'Angelo's is fantastic.  Whether your stopping in to shop for groceries, eat in/take out, or stop by just to check the place out, you wont be disappointed.  The only down sides?  The grocery portion is slightly pricey (what can you do, its Princeton and most everything is imported!) and occasionally there will be a mix up if you call in an order (though 10/10 they'll work with you to fix it, even if it costs them an extra buck.)  I'd highly recommend stopping in for a slice and checking the place out; you'll find yourself coming back time and time again. Great new Italian deli/cafe and market right across from the Spring Street parking garage.  Owners are really friendly; when I mentioned I was in town from Vegas, they were really excited about that and asked lots of questions about the city.  :)  I tried the chicken meatballs, penne with cream sauce, and broccoli and all were really good.  The dessert offerings looks wonderful but I was way too stuffed to try anything.  (Too bad, as the cannoli looked yummy.)  My only gripe is the price.  I feel that prices are on the (very) high side, even for Princeton.  The chicken meatballs were 2 for $3.50.  The pasta was $7.95.  Sure, portions were on the large side, but still.  The market side looked really interesting with all the olive oils, pastas, and other such items, but my friend and I had to eat and run.  I will check out the market on my next visit! Hooray, it took years but finally, a grocery store within walking distance from Princeton University AND centrally located near town center.  They seem to have a little of most things you need.  Super-convenient.Pros: extensive meat counter & butcher service; lots of prepared foods you can takeaway or eat at 6 or or so casual, in-house tables; more types of pasta (and sauces) than you can shake a fork at; small produce section; tons of cheese.  If you have your car with you, the place is right across Spring St garage so you don't have to figure out street parking.Cons: the stratospheric prices - eek!  I guess you pay for convenience and location location location, but still.  And sometimes the produce can look kinda...tired.  However, if I suddenly need to prepare for surprise dinner guests, and I'm leaving campus to walk home, there's really no where else I can go (without a car or walking an extra 20-30 minutes) to get my ingredients. So, yeah, it might put me in the poor house in the long run, but it's worth it those few times you're facing a food emergency and don't want the hassle of walking an extra mile or firing up your car just to get milk, cilantro or whatever. It appears like it has been there forever.. not so.. relatively new. Locational Freudian. haha. Princetonian's get that. ok. back to the potpies with amazing flakey crust - sauteed vegetables  in a marsala wine sauce.. cannot be beat.. so I took one home for my toughest critic.. and it was that good. They don't bake their amazing bread... no.. it comes in from Brooklyn... so for those  near the Italian Bread capital of the world.. enjoy that!   Nice people and place. More...

I am so glad they added the beautiful, clean, gourmet phenomenon to Princeton. Not only can you buy fresh ingredients and beautiful imported goods, but buys spectacular and delicious pre-made foods in the sparkling glass cases in which they happily wait to be bought. Pasta salads to fresh, smoking hot chicken parmagione to golden brown, sparking cookies and tortes to crispy, cheesy Strombolis and MIND BLOWING margarita pizzas. Thank you, Princeton, for adding a fresh and lively new food store. More...

It was about 8:20 and since my husband was away on business I stopped into pick up something quick to eat at home. It was a bit confusing when they said they were closing because the door states close is at 10.In any event, limited prepared options still available so I chose some sort of chicken/eggplant/mozzarella combination sandwich. The service was not particularly friendly and it took FOREVER to pay. With expectations set low by my experience in the store - I non-enthusiastically sat down at home to eat. Man was I surprised! Absolutely one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten! Fantastic fresh ingredients delivered sensational flavor.Advice to owners ....  smile, provide quicker better-organized check-out and your establishment could deliver PERFECTION. More...

A GREAT place! With Frankie's assistance, I  arranged some catering for my company. The sausage and peppers are to die for and so was the vegetable lasagna.

So glad there's more food choices in Princeton and an Italian market is well needed.  Reminds me of those great food stalls in the Italian markets in South Philadelphia.  Loved the breaded and pounded oh so thin chicken cutlets.  Was a hit with the whole family.Anyway, welcome D'Angelo's along with the new food offerings on Palmer Square - especially the cheese shop - Olsson's Fine Foods. D'Angelo's is an all-purpose italian market.  It's mostly a place to pick up food, though they do have a few indoor and outdoor tables that make it a great lunch place.  They have a $5 Princeton student lunch box special that is quite a great deal! And their food is super-high-quality and super tasty!  The staff is generally super nice, too.  It's a great lunch spot! More...

Excellent food and selection, very friendly service, highly recommended. Checkout is a little clunky but I can overlook that. All in all, I haven't had a meal here yet with which I was disappointed. More...

Love the pizza. Love the cannoli's. But what's up with the service?!? : ) Yep, it's a bit of a three ring circus to sort out who's doing what, where, here. Also, calling in a to go order can sometimes put you in a black hole thanks to the youngster(s) manning the phone and not knowing the "system". All that aside, the product here is excellent and a great addition to Princeton. So far we've enjoyed the pizza quatro stagione (4 seasons) on multiple occasions. It reminds me of the many wood fired pizzas consumed while living in Italy. We look forward to trying a lot more of the various Italian salumi's, cheeses and other specialties. The convenience of the Spring Street parking garage - literally across the street makes for easy pick up of to go orders (your first 30 mins of parking is free). More...

You know those times when you have an hour for lunch, but you don't want to spend 20-30 minutes walking/ordering?  You want something fast so you can maximize your lunch hour?  Well, I have those feelings all the time, but I will usually spend that time walking to go here.  Sandwich oh sandwich, you are yummy.  Turkey supreme FTW! A veritable pantheon of Italian culinary delights! It certainly took me some time to get a full appraisal of all the terrific options. Everything looked fresh and delicious and I settled on a sandwich, which was sliced and made to order. Some of the best mortadella I've had since living in Italy. My family had been driving a half hour to our preferred Italian deli but we might have a new place. More...

Simply the BEST pizza I've eaten.  One bite and I was a child again eating real tomato pie.  THE BEST!  Husband even ate his crust!!!

I really love this place. I've been back more than a few times now. They were definitely still figuring out some of their service routines, in terms of how things should flow, but nothing to hold against them as their prices for pizza and the like are very reasonable. Also, in a few of the times where things got a little confused, the staff was nothing but gracious and pleasant. It's family run!Stromboli with peppers and sausage are highly recommended or their Sicilian style pizza. Also for $5.95 you get a fresh, healthy, veggie filled salad. Not many places in Princeton can you find that. Panera just doesn't cut it anymore and non of the other pizza places serve a decent salad, a few leaves of ice berg lettuce and a cherry tomato is NOT a salad. More...

Whenever I walk into D'Angelo's, it's like I died and went to Italian heaven.Like a few others, I have had no service problems when ordering food or pastries. The prepared foods look (and smell) absolutely delicious and the pizza tastes even better (I'm Italian and take my pizza very seriously). I've tried two of the pizzas- one with eggplant and one with mushrooms and artichokes (normally comes with ham, too, but didn't get that). The pizza dough itself is thin and delicious, not too crispy. Combine that with tons of mozzarella cheese and perfectly cooked eggplant, and you have yourself the perfect pizza.I tried the mini cannolis as well and they were the best I've ever had. I took them to go and the shells were still crunchy when I went to eat them an hour or 2 later, and the cannoli cream is divine.Aside from all of the wonderful prepared foods offered, D'Angelo's also has a wide variety of cheeses, dry and fresh pastas, and desserts to choose from and make at (or enjoy at) home. Especially the desserts in the refrigerated case...dozens of different flavored parfaits to choose from (Limoncello, anyone?).D'Angelo's also has a catering menu and a corporate lunch menu which I took back for my office. This place is a must-try for anyone visiting Princeton. Trust me, you won't be sorry. More...

I certainly haven't had the same problems that others have had here in terms of poor service or basil-less pizza.  I'm thrilled to finally have a place to buy fresh produce and meat that's a walkable distance from campus dorms, but I think the best part of D'Angelo is their pizza.  I came here for lunch when my mother came to visit: I had a Margherita and she had a pizza very similar but with eggplant as well.  We paid at the registers for our pizzas and drinks and then sat down at one of the (relatively few) tables nearby.  They make each pizza from scratch (you can watch them work and throw the dough and add the toppings and then bake them in a brick oven, so it does take some time, but it's somewhere between a bit longer than Panera and shorter than your average sit-down restaurant.  When the pizza's were ready, they brought them over to our table, along with some plates.  The pizza's are served on these metal plates that I think they're probably cooked on, and because our table was small, they also brought out a metal stand so that the pizza's could be stacked, one at about table height, and the other a few inches off the table, conserving space.  My mother and I agreed that we prefer D'Angelo's crust to the pizzas at Teresa's cafe and we both quite like Teresa's food.  The crust was just soft enough to be chewy but with an excellently crispy edge.  Their Margherita uses tomato sauce, rather than pieces of stewed or fresh tomato, which I've seen at other places, and their sauce is more sweet than tangy, but tasted wonderful.  There was slightly more cheese that I generally like on my pizza - to give you an idea, it was the sort of pizza where when you pick up one slice there's always a long string of cheese that is still attached to the other slices that just continues on and on - but I think in the future, I'll just try and ask them to make my pizza with less, an option that I think they'd be open to, as one of the men there said that if we wanted a different combination of pizza toppings than was listed on the menu, we could just ask.  I managed to eat three-quarters of my pizza and my mother ate only half of hers, so if you have a relatively small appetite, be prepared to take home leftovers, like we did this time, or maybe split one pizza between two people, like we will next time.  For desert, we went back to their frozen food section, which is filled with both mainstream ice creams and bars and more traditional Italian ones, and purchased two of these sort of deserts that tasted like a cross between custard-like ice cream and whipped cream and were entirely divine.  Mine was a caramel flavor with hazelnuts in it, housed in a plastic cup (around $3) and my mother's was layered and lemon-flavored, stacked up in a heavy glass (I washed it and now use it in my dorm room) for around $6.  I'm definitely making this my new go-to pizza place, in addition to shopping there for groceries, and hope I don't run into any of the problems other reviews have mentioned. I was thrilled to happen upon D'Angelo Italian Market last weekend.  It's a nice place - clean, bright and spacious.  The first thing that met my eye when I walked in was a large case filled with all sorts of lovely cheeses, and a nice selection of prepared foods across from that.  But my gaze immediately shifted to the bakery section, which boasted many different varieties of cookies and pastries.I'm a huge cookie fan, and I enjoyed the fact that their selection went beyond the typical Italian bakery-style butter cookie.  I purchased several different varieties to enjoy later that evening.  The Baci di Dama consisted of two tiny hazelnut cookies sandwiched together with chocolate.  The cookie wasn't very sweet at all, which allowed the hazelnut flavor to come through - but it was a bit dry for my liking, and the chocolate was barely perceptible.  I don't know that I would buy these again.  I also tried the Chocolate Crinkle, a button-shaped cookie with a coating of powdered sugar.  This cookie was also a bit on the dry side, but the very center was almost fudgy, and it had a nice chocolate flavor.  The Nocciola e Caffe was just wonderful - perfectly crumbly and "sandy" in texture, its intense toasted hazelnut flavor heightened by the coffee undertones.  Definitely a winner.  I can't remember the name of the fourth cookie I tried; it was flat and somewhat oval-shaped, and I believe it was supposed to be flavored with candied citron.  Honestly, I didn't taste any citrus, and I thought it was a little too dense/chewy.  But the Limoncello Raspberry Sandwich cookies more than made up for that one.  By far the star of the show, this confection consisted of two tender, cakey, lemon-scented cookies sandwiched together with raspberry jam, and then entirely coated with a thin lemon glaze.  They were SO GOOD.  I could eat a sack of these things...The prepared foods looked pretty nice, though sadly the stuff that really caught my eye wasn't vegetarian (Rice and Cheese Balls - chicken stock; Stuffed Artichokes - anchovies), so I couldn't try them out.  I was impressed, however, with the staff's willingness to answer my questions and investigate ingredients for me.  And I was doubly impressed that they were so honest about it.  (Many establishments will outright lie to make a sale, sad but true; I can't count the times it's happened to me.)  Also, one of the chefs said they may switch to vegetable stock instead of chicken stock when preparing the rice for their Rice and Cheese Balls, which would make me very happy indeed.I did take home more than just cookies, though.  They had just removed a batch of Artichoke Breads from the oven.  They looked amazing, and I battled with myself over the $8.00 price tag.  I finally gave in, and I'm so glad I did - this thing was incredible, and worth every cent.  The exterior was super crunchy, the interior soft and moist; it was chock full of chopped artichoke hearts, sautéed onions, and several varieties of cheese.  We killed half of it that night with dinner, and happily finished it the following day!All in all, I was very happy with this place.  Its attractive appearance, honest, friendly and enthusiastic staff, and high quality offerings definitely make me want to return.  I recommend it!  (And seriously, get the Artichoke Bread and Limoncello Sandwich cookies - you won't be disappointed.) Finally got around to checking out D'Angelo Market this past Saturday. One of the owners had come into our shop back in December and we were all anticipating it opening. It was very busy, so I strolled up to the hot food line and surveyed my choices. I decided on an overstuffed eggplant parm roll, $5.95 and a diet soda. They were able to warm it up for me too. They offered all sorts of different stuffed rolls, strombolis, calzones, and hand made personal pies with very yummy looking toppings- lots of fresh, basic, and simple ingredients, nothing too greasy or gooey. Their hot foods also featured chicken parm and eggplant parm, and hot sides. Right next to the hot foods line was a bakery selection. The eggplant parm was absolutely wonderful! It was thin and crispy with fresh mozz and sauce- so good. The dough for the rolls was also very good. I didn't get a chance to check out the rest of the market, as it was very busy, but I hope to sometime soon to pick up some more Italian goodies. It looks like they also have a deli counter and dry goods. They also have plenty of seating if you want to enjoy your food there. My only criticism, and this could have been affected by the busy traffic, was that there wasn't a smooth flow from ordering your food to paying for it. I saw a couple of people that had eaten and then paid, and I did wait a couple of minutes after receiving my food to pay. I'm sure this will get straightened out- it's also confusing to where you order your food and etc. But I will definitely return! The price for my sandwich was also very reasonable. More...
