Hello, all! This is Christian Krenek, Dauphin d'Escape Rooms of Boston (27 games with 21 wins). I was visiting New York for my younger brother's wedding, and had some free time--so of course I tracked down an escape room to play. :p I chose Clue Chases's "The Ultimate Heist" on the advice of my friend Matt Corr, who works there. I came in eager...and was NOT disappointed! This is, beyond exaggeration, one of, if not THE, best rooms I have ever done.As others have said, this company is set apart because the four rooms are part of one overarching storyline: Clue Chase is a scientific group seeking something called "The Artifact," and each room is a different point in space-time where the Artifact once was. What makes that really interesting is that the experience begins when you walk into the building and never stops--from the lobby decor to the employees' characters to the briefing video, you're involved in the game. It's definitely silly (apparently their HR Department is a "Hydrochloric Acid Receptacle"), immersive, and super fun! I must also give a special shout-out to Sam/Smogol, the "scientist" who ran my game. Sam elevated this  experience from amazing to unforgettable with his acting, skilled clueing, and total dedication to making a special experience. Ask for Sam to run your game! The game itself is fantastic: you are sent to the lair of a thief who stole the Artifact in 1998. The "main" throughline of the room has you do that; the puzzles are fun, engaging, and interesting. I played by myself and was able to successfully track down the item, so it's definitely possible for groups of any size. But what REALLY impressed me about the room are the Bonus puzzles! The thief's lair is lined with priceless historical artifacts  from across time (everything from an ancient Egyptian relic to a Beanie Baby with a misprinted label), each locked in its own display case--and each with a unique puzzle to free it. *None of this* is required to win--instead, it allows you to get a "score" at the end of the game (I only got four relics, so my grand total was $16 million. I'll take it!). :p But what makes that admirable is that there is ALWAYS something to do, and all of the puzzles are varied, exciting, and interesting (from trivia to riddles to spatial recognition to hidden objects). I've played games where there are "bottlenecks"--people get stuck because there's only one puzzle to do, and not everyone can work on it, which leads to standing around. This room contrasts that in every way--I can imagine any size group working. For theme, storyline, difficulty, and engagement,  this puzzle gets an A+--I want to go back and steal everything! :p More...

ESCAPETHEROOMers first visit to Clue chase was back in April 2018. Since this location is in a commercial building, it's a bit tricky to get into. Make sure you give yourself ample time to check-in with security and have your photo ID ready or else you will not be able to enter. The waiting area is quite comfortable as there's some puzzles for you to play with while waiting for your game master to start the game. The game masters are also playing their roles quite well as they take you into a time travel warp. You'll get debriefed with a background story in the waiting area on their TV. "The Egyptian Tomb" room was very immersive. The props felt like it was from a theatrical set and you are actually trapped in a tomb. We only had three people but was lucky enough to get a private room to ourselves. However, we didn't have enough time to finish the puzzles, as we were definitely short-handed. My feeling is that you will probably need a minimum of 4 people to successfully escape. This is the first escape room that we've tried with a lot of high tech equipment involved and it was a real eye-opener for us. This is also the first room where we didn't have to use too many traditional locks. So if you are person that's in love with the feeling of opening locks, this might not be for you. Also, for every room you try.We had a huge group of eight people for "The Ultimate Heist" room and the size of the room was definitely accommodating. If you are looking for any kind of team building, this room would be perfect. The goal here is to steal $100 million dollars worth of merchandise from a thief and of course, escape with it. There are a lot of mini puzzles in the room where each person or a small group can tackle on together. The more puzzles you solve, the more prizes you can escape the room with. We had 8 people and escaped with about $35 million dollars worth! The puzzles were well-thought out and pretty linear in terms of the clues that were provided so that you can easily associate them with each other. Remember to leave time to solve the puzzle on how to escape the room or else you will get caught red-handed w/ all the merchandise!"The Lost Spy" décor of the room felt very office-like as they are trying to recreate the feeling of the CIA headquarter in VA. The room is quite spacious and the clues were clearly coordinated to the puzzles that needed to be solved. There's a lot to do in there but this room is not linear (we notice that in their other games as well). This is great for team building if you have a large group as you can divide and conquer. There is some reading involved that would need to be analyzed in this room so if you are not a reader, bring someone that is! Nothing would require any outside knowledge, but you would be at a slight advantage if you know how to play this particular board game. One of the pieces did feel a little worn in the coloring which wasn't a big issue since we used process of elimination but it would've been great if they can provide some upkeep on the puzzle pieces to avoid any confusion. Between the two of us, we couldn't complete the room in time mainly because we're not too familiar with failing to escape a room based on trying a code too many times. Normally, you'll probably just get locked out as a penalty or something. We had about 10 minutes left when we made a final attempt, but the game actually stopped when the code was entered incorrectly. So, I would leave a good amount of time, patience, and precision for the ending. The storyline was great as it made sense as it developed and why the agent went missing which then also lead to the ending aspect.Clue Chase has always been one of our favorite locations in the city. If you had to pick a game to play, I would say "The Ultimate Heist" is a MUST try there. We can't wait to complete the "Alien Encounter" room so that we can be sent on the secret mission and infiltrate the Fox's secret organization! Remember that each room gives you a secret puzzle piece when you complete them so keep them somewhere safe as you'll need to bring them back to the location for this last exciting adventure!*For more info, check out my Yelp profile. Having been to escape rooms in several countries, this one is pretty decent. Only did the Egyptian room, but the puzzles were well done, the props/scenery was solid, and the balance/time was appropriate. It can be a bit of a chore to get to on weekends, but worth the trip. One aspect that was a little awkward was the hammy acting/roleplay by the staff in the prelude to the room. I'm sure some people get into it and that it could be an icebreaker for some groups, but it wasn't for us. More...

I went with a group of fellow engineers, all highly intelligent people who love this kind of thing, and while we did escape the room in time, there were enough side puzzles and secondary objectives remaining to have kept us busy for at least a couple more hours. I went in with optimistic hopes and left with a smile and satisfying realization that I'd had even more fun than I'd expected to. More...
