I have known Cindy for four years and am writing to highly recommend her as a personal trainer. Among Cindy's strengths are:1.      Tailored and Efficient - Cindy customizes the workout each week to match my energy level and needs for that week. Some weeks, I am exhausted from work and we focus on mobility, abs and weight training. Some weeks, I am well rested and we focus on cardio. Regardless of the type of workout, they are always structured to maximize efficiency - one hour with Cindy is the equivalent of several with other trainers, in my experience. Cindy's deep knowledge of which muscles are activated by specific workouts ensures that each minute is spent productively. For busy New Yorkers, this is critical.2.      Safety - Previously, I had a debilitating injury in my neck due to improper weight training technique (from a previous fitness instructor). My first sessions with Cindy were designed around mobility - a concept I was not familiar with before working out with her - where I learned which areas of my body were "tight" - and how I could stretch them to develop a greater range of motion. Through this deep stretching, I am well versed in injury prevention and am lifting more than I ever had previously.3.      Nutrition - Cindy provides excellent nutritional advice which magnifies the impact of the workouts. Unlike many diet plans which cause insatiable hunger and involve complex formulas, Cindy provides me with direct feedback on what I eat during the week and how I can incorporate healthier ingredients. For example, I enjoy eating snacks (read: carbs) during the workday when I get stressed. Over time, I have modified my snacks to include fruits, granola, nuts and healthy "chips" to achieve the same level of satisfaction with much healthier ingredients.4.      Results - I do not have a lot of time to devote to physical fitness due to my schedule and workout with Cindy only once a week. However, due to the efficiency and effectiveness of her workouts and nutrition counseling, I've lost 13lbs, 3 pant sizes and look excellent.I have shifted how I think of exercise, how I exercise and eat, and have made incorporating a healthy lifestyle a priority - this is all due to Cindy's constant encouragement, deep knowledge of fitness and strong level of support. I've been a client of Cindy's for over 5 years now, and she's phenomenal!! It's really fantastic working with her. Not only is she amazingly knowledgable of so many types of fitness already (from kettlebells to strength training to mobility to stretching to martial arts to core workouts to HITs to cardio etc.), but something that is really admirable is that she is constantly learning and sharpening her skills as well, whether it be exploring new exercises and sports, or attending workshops to deepen her knowledge in specialized skills. I know Cindy personally. I've had the opportunity to  workout beside her and she is incredibly talented and knowledgable. I asked her for some hip opener exercises since I was struggling with tightness and mobility and I knew she was a personal trainer, and she took the time to help me out with some very helpful stretches. I also took her surf fit class - because I wanted to get into surfing. She took us to Rockaway Beach and gave us a surf lesson, but also threw in a great warmup and workout. More...

My experience working with Cindy Lai has been nothing short of excellent. When I started working with Cindy, I had some basic knowledge and decent level and of fitness. However, She has helped me to focus on my form during our sessions, which has translated to safe and effective workouts when I'm training on my own! She even created a personalized homework for me to follow throughout the week on days we weren't training together. Cindy is a next level trainer.  Besides the fact that she pushes you to perform at your absolute best, her training is incredibly dynamic.  She understands body movement within so many different disciplines, which makes her a chameleon when it comes to her clients' needs/interests.  Cindy also specializes in using what you have...she doesn't need a big gym or fancy equipment to get you sweating and panting.  Most importantly, while training with Cindy you always feel safe.  I would highly recommend Cindy Lai Fitness! Cindy is an amazing instructor who has a ton of knowledge about fitness and physiology. Not a drill sergeant, Cindy pushes you but is supportive. Her workouts typically include elements of mobility, stability, strength and conditioning. She's adamant about balanced fitness versus just red-lining for the entire workout, which I'm pretty sure is why I not only feel stronger and fitter but am not injured. Worth noting, the people who attend Cindy's boot camp are a fun group who work hard but don't take themselves too seriously. Finding the right trainer is like finding the right therapist -- it's all about someone who listens to you, motivates you, knows how to push you, and tailors her sessions to fit your needs.Cindy's awesome. I have had several pair training sessions with Cindy which included body-weight and kettle bell exercises. She pushes me to improve, but at the same time has done a great job of easing me into getting into shape. I have never worked out regularly before, and I feel that working with Cindy will give me the confidence and motivation to succeed. She is good at varying our workouts so that I don't get bored, and I really appreciate her email reminders to keep being active during the week. She is a great trainer, and fun to be around. Cindy Lai's workout is great. Diverse, challenging and fun, she pushes you to do your best - use muscles you wouldn't normally use and strengthen your core. She is also able to advise on running techniques, posture and nutrition. I definitely recommend it. It's also a great way to meet people of common goals and interests. I've just started Cindy's kettlebell classes and they're great!  Tried a few different bootcamp places when I first moved to NYC, but the kettlebell workouts definitely take things to the next level.  Cindy does a great job of keeping class sizes manageable, and tailors the workouts to each student - keeping beginners encouraged while giving more advanced students enough to keep challenged and coming back for more.  With other training I felt like I kept hitting plateaus as I adapted, but with Cindy's workouts I'm sore every time (in a good way :o) ).  Can't wait for the next class! Cindy is a great trainer.  Motivational but not in your face.  My husband & I are regulars at her kettlebell class, which she changes up every week with different exercises.  It's a very different alternative to the usual cardio/ weights routine that people get stuck in.  You develop a personal relationship with Cindy that keeps you further motivated as she follows up with you regularly on a one-on-one basis.  The guilt factor is a strong motivator! :)  She's able to design even the group classes for you around your weaknesses so you see improvement quickly. Cindy Lai gets it. She tailors the workouts for busy New Yorkers in easy going way.  She encourages you to listen to your body and will demonstrate the exercise & the modified version.  The bootcamp is definitely doable and her coaching motivates you to challenge yourself. She provides corrective body feedback with friendly observations and professionalism.  The definite plus is the class is outdoors in Central Park.  I have to remind myself to stay focus as the cute male joggers pass by. I absolutely LOVE CLF. Her classes are amazing and very professional. I randomly ran into her website searching for kettle bell classes, and thankfully she was everything (and more) than expected. Her bootcamp classes are also very hard (in a good way), and will put you in shape if you go constantly. After the first kettle bell workout I was sore for about 4 days, really sore. She motivates you, is nice, respectful and the classes don't feel like torture. I have been going to the gym for a while, but these classes really reminded me that I don't go enough. I recommend CLF whether you are a beginner or advanced, she will help you and guide you through the class with your specific targeted needs. So happy to be going to these classes! You should go. I started attending Cindy's boot camp classes in September of 2011 in order to prepare myself for the New York marathon and my wedding.  Cindy is great and she truly cares about her students and their goals. I hurt my IT band while training for the marathon and she gave me great advice and tips on what to do in order to get better.  During class she is very good at providing modifications exercises for those that are injured or unable to complete the exercises, I truly do enjoy her classes.  She also has a blog with nutritional advice and things you can do on your own to stay active which is great.  I also have to thank Cindy for helping me look my best on my wedding day; I loved how I looked on my wedding dress.  Thank you so much Cindy!! Cindy is great!!!! I first found her class thru a living social discount, and  went back to her classes after an almost two year hiatus. Not in my best shape the 2nd go around, but Cindy really works with you at the level your comfortable at. In fact I love that she modifies techniques during the workouts for people that are newish to the class or can't do the move because of physical limitations (me I have bad knees, and my blood pressure tends to be on the lower end of healthy, so sometimes if I move too fast or go from a down to an up position, I can get dizzy). Cindy knowing this gives me an exercise that will work the muscle group we're doing but at a level my body is comfortable at. Not gonna lie, sometimes those bear crawls and planks KILL ME... but so WORTH IT!!! More...

AMAZING!! I went to Cindy's Kettlebell Boot Camp this morning and it was one of the greatest workout I've had in NYC. This was my first time using a kettlebell for an extensive workout, and I'm so glad it was with Cindy! The class was just 6 people, so it was intimate with lots of opportunity for one-on-one help. I am not very strong (at all), but Cindy gave me a ton of modifications that helped me access the workout at my pace and strength. It was about 6 months before my 30th birthday when I decided to give Cindy Lai Fitness a try! I had come off an neck injury and had gained 20 pounds, the feeling in my own skin really had brought me down. I started with at boot-camp then graduated to kettlebells. Not only were the workouts fun, motivating, sweat filled and full of smiles - I lost the weight and the inches and started to feel like myself again.Cindy has a million and one ways to keep people focused yet give personal attention to each of her clients. I first was introduced to Cindy through Lifebooker Loot in June. I was really nervous about going because when I think of boot camp, I think of a big scary man screaming at you to do one more push up or else he'll make you wish you'd never been born. Thankfully, CLF is not any of those things. After my first workout with Cindy, I was sore for like 5 days! It was kinda awesome. After my deal expired, I actually bought 10 more classes with Cindy. I've gone to a total of maybe 6/7 classes thus far and we've never once gone to the same area of Central Park or did the same routine. There is always something different each class. Cindy gauges the fitness levels of everyone in the class and then tailors the workouts so we're all pushed to do more, but never to the point where "we wish we'd never been born". She also gives out really great advice on nutrition, stretching and general wellness. Cindy isn't just a trainer you see once a week, but she really tries to help you change your lifestyle. She sends out blog updates, email reminders, and sets up activities besides boot camp for us to do. Definitely try her out if you're looking to jump start your workout routine...or if you've gone to a couple more fatty brunches than you intended to this summer! More...

Cindy is amazing. I initially found her through social steals and I couldn't wait to get started. I have been to her a total of 6 times now and there have been significant changes in my body. Everything is much tighter and makes me wanting to come back for more.Cindy will definitely push you beyond your limits but in a positive way. She is encouraging and knows you can push through certain exercises no matter how hard the appear. One significant change I've noticed is my upper body strength. On they days I am exercising on my own, I've been able to increase my weight usage and my running strength has almost doubled.No matter how many people are at her classes, she gives everyone the right amount of attention and makes sure your working hard! I went to my first class today. It was such a great experience. I never realized how out of shape I was, but Cindy helped me through the class. I'm naturally thin but not strong, and strength is a key factor to get through it! I really liked the way CIndy coached and observed me. I first met Cindy at Kettlebell Boot camp over the summer.  I fell in love with her style at my first class and have been coming back to her since.   I have been a member of Equinox, NYSC, and Crunch, worked out with trainers, and tried a ton of challenging classes offered in NYC including SoulCycle, Bikram Yoga, Physique 57, and CoreFusion to name a few, and none of these classes compare to Cindy Lai's boot camps or personal training.    Not only do I find her workouts to be fun, but they are challenging.  She knows how to mix up the work outs to keep you interested, motivated, and coming back for more.  She knows how to push you to the next level at just the right time.  When it came time to hire a trainer to get me in shape for my wedding, I went to Cindy.  I have never seen my body change the way it has since I started with Cindy.  She is/has not only helped me reach my goals for my wedding but exceeded them.  I know on my wedding day that I will feel amazing in my wedding dress because of Cindy Lai's help.  In addition, Cindy stays in touch with you throughout the week to make sure you stay on top of your goals and see how you are feeling. What a great work out! And never a dull moment. I never have time to even look at the clock and suddenly class is over and I've burned 500 calories and had loads of fun doing it. I never get bored in Cindy's bootcamps. She switches it up constantly, which keeps things from getting stagnant, keeps my body in top shape, and challenges me in new ways every time. Classes are tailored to every fitness level in the class. It's never easy, but Cindy is an amazing motivator and I'm always coming back for more.Cindy also has great nutritional advice for eating in a way that provides consistent energy for workouts and throughout the day.I highly recommend Cindy's bootcamp classes to reach your fitness and health goals. Cindy runs a very solid and professional boot camp class. I give 4 stars to the Kettle Ball class, which I preferred much more than the boot camp class (3 stars).  The Kettle Ball class was challenging and demanding, but Cindy also recognizes that different people have different levels of expertise with the Kettle Balls and she makes sure your form is correct (so as to avoid injury).  I enjoy receiving her emails and blog entries as well.... Cindy's bootcamp is amazing! I have been looking for a workout where I feel that I am being challenged but not pushed. Cindy gives you the motivation and empowerment you need to feel stronger and definitely in shape. It is as fun as working out can get.. she will partner you up and make you do moves that really work.  As a semi- beginner she does not push me to where I am at all frustrated. She also modifies many moves so that you stay within your comfort zone. She is helpful and takes time to answer any questions you may have about diet and fitness in general. When class is over I am not hurting or sore, her stretches are very thorough.. Her class is definitely worth giving a shot, you will be proud and amazed at the changes you see.  Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do. More...

I found Cindy Lai through Lifebooker a few months ago and decided to try a 5 class package . . . best decision ever!! I had wanted to try a bootcamp class for a long time, but most didn't fit with my schedule, and the ones that did sometimes looked a little scary (with too many pictures of people dressed for combat). Cindy's classes are a perfect solution.My typical workout routine involved mostly running, so I was looking to learn some new exercises that would help me target different muscle groups. With Cindy's classes I have been working muscles I didn't even know I had! The classes are fun and great for all fitness levels. Since I started I've been able to incorporate a lot of what I learned into my other workouts, and I'm seeing a big difference in how I look and feel. It was the beginning of my first NY summer...the birds were singing, the snow had melted--and I could no longer fit into my favorite summer dress.After a sedentary winter (with too much general tso's), I realized I had to do something to get myself back into shape.Then the gods smiled upon me. I saw a LivingSocial coupon for Cindy Lai fitness bootcamp, and decided to sign up. I was nervous but I loved it, starting from my very first class.Cindy is really enthusiastic about what she does- she's knowledgable & professional but also fun. She pushes you really hard, but is never intimidating. She also keeps classes small enough so that its like a group version of a personal training session. She tailors exercises to individuals, compares your improvement only to you, and provides positive feedback.Cindy also has a blog and sends out emails between classes about health & nutrition. I've been around.  Joining every other bootcamp I could find, only to be disappointed due to apathetic trainers, over crowed locations or lack of interest.  Cheers to me, because I've struck gold with Cindy. Cindy is personable, mega talented, a pleasure to learn from and genuinely wants you to succeed in your fitness goals.I feel great, and I've only taken three classes.  I plan to sign up for more, especially the Kettleball class.  You will see (and feel) results immediately!  It's my favorite workout.Cindy pushes you, but never too hard or outside of your boundaries (unless you're into that).Also, she has great tips on nutrition and healthy living.  I highly recommend her! I've been attending Cindy's Bootcamp since August of 2009 and I'm loving it! I've only done the Saturday morning kettlebell Bootcamp classes so I can't comment on the other Bootcamp classes she holds during the week in central park (but I hear they are just as good).The class:If you haven't worked out with Kettlebells you gotta try it, its so much fun and challenging at the same time. It's a good way to get out of the gym and do new exercises that work various muscle groups at the same time. The class is an hour long and held in the West Side highway Pier (when the weather is crappy, Cindy books a studio). Cindy;Always respectful, friendly, responsible and observant. She keeps the class size big enough where you work off everyone else's energy but small enough where you get individual attention if you need help with your form or have a question. She's always upbeat and smiling but if you're slacking - she'll know and give you that little push you need.Why I keep coming back;In addition to all that good stuff, Cindy sends out emails/text during the week to see how you're doing and to remind you to stretch or to eat nutritious foods.Also, all of the other bootcampers are positive & friendly people that are supportive and fun to work out with. I found Cindy Lai Fitness through Groupon and I definitely recommend working out with her. The Groupon special was $45 for 3 boot camp sessions. Before the sessions, Cindy will email you and ask you questions about your fitness level, diet, goals, etc. Communication is really clear in regards to meet up location, time, expectations, etc.Then come the actual boot camp sessions. Holy crap, she will work you! Also, Cindy Lai is BUFF. Seriously, if American Gladiators ever came back on TV, she could be on it. During these sessions, she really pushes you to work your hardest in one hour.  We worked out in Central Park on Sheep's Meadow, where we did lunges, push-ups, squats, sprints, planks, etc.While I didn't purchase additional bootcamp sessions beyond my Groupon, I learned a lot in those three sessions that I was able to apply to my own individual workouts. Budget allowing, I would sign up for more sessions when the weather warms up. More...
