Always a great spot to go to. The new tioga location is perfect and very easy to get to! Cilantro tacos never disappoints!
The best tacos in town. CT made me a carnitas convert and I will never go back. If you want max taste, order your tacos Nate style. The guacamole here is solid too. Really just everything. Everything is great. More...
High quality food. Fresh. Flavorful. Best tacos in Gainesville. A little small inside. Chips and salsa not included.
Definitely worth a drive to get to this place. Each taco I tried was fantastic. I wish I lived closer. I would eat here every day of the week (except they apparently aren't open on Sunday.)
Wonderful place with delicious food and great customer service. We tried the flan and it was to die for! Totally recommend.
Second day in a row eating lunch here because it's just THAT good. The burritos are huge and very flavorful. Quesadillas are delicious too. Everything is fresh and decently priced. The owner was at the tioga location today. He was friendly and interactive with all of his customers. I will gladly support local restaurants and this one is one of our favorites! More...
This is our new favorite place to run to if we don't feel like making dinner. Good fresh tacos and there is a cheap kids menu. Seating inside is limited but there is more outside. Also in a nice location near Starbucks, WOB, etc. More...
Not the biggest portions but good food!
Cilantro Tacos claims to be authentic Mexican food and it most definitely is not! That being said, their food is amazing. Every taco that I have had is really good. I would easily put them among the best Mexican fusion in town. They are worth a try if you have not yet done so. More...
Awesome place, amazing food, and a great family that runs it.
Excellent food. Worth the wait.
Food is amazing. Service is awesome. We need a restaurant like this one in every town and city.
Wow the food was great . I had the steak bowl and it was so much food. Staff is friendly. Great place to eat.
Great food, fun atmosphere!
Love the place ..... thank you Nathan and Peter ......
Very nice layout in the Tioga location, food was excellent. Staff seemed a bit confused at times but could have been an off day.
the rice milk is soo good
It's great for Cilantro Tacos to now be in Tioga. Very good food, great service even if they are busy! Worth the wait. Wish there was more seating - indoor and outdoor. A nice addition to the Jonesville area. More...
Clean and nice place. Amazing tacos. Keep up the good work. They also use paper plates for take out with wax paper instead of aluminum foil and foam plates which is a plus.
Cilantro taco did an amazing job catering my sister’s wedding! Food was soooooo delicious. They were very attentive and made sure nothing ran out in the buffet line. Everything was super fresh and exactly what we hoped for! More...
Tioga location is much quicker and cleaner. Food was good, not great
Awesome fish tacos!
Amazing place. Get you tacos Nate style, you won't regret it! Truly a family run restaurant. Nate and Nataly are wonderful people and managers at this location. If there is ever a problem, they will fix it- just ask! More...
I loved Cilantro when they were in Newberry, and they're just as delicious in Tioga! Fresh, great tasting burritos!
El Pastor tacos the best
Amazing.... Absolutely amazing. Worth the drive after their move.

If your homemade (Red) Hot sauce that I loved so much were still being served at your food truck, would've given you 5 stars. That was the "icing on the cake" so to speak. Now we just have to bring our own hot sauce when we dine at your food truck. The food is fresh and delicious as always and...... me and hubby really do miss your Hot Sauce. It was primo. Let me know if you ever decide to bottle it. I will buy it in a heartbeat! Happy to hear about your new Location. More...
Amazing food and excellent service. We got there past 9pm which is when they closed, they not only took our order but encouraged us to stay and eat inside. This is definitely my new spot!!!!

If I could give you 100 stars I would!!!! The food here is so delicious & savory. It was our 1st coming here & we enjoyed every thing about it. Nathan & Peter were very attentive & helpful. Can’t wait to come back again. More...
We used their catering service for a graduation party at our air bnb when we were in town. THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! The reservation set up was good and They were on time. There was plenty of food and it was hot and ready and also extremely good. They included everything you could think of to make it perfect. I couldn't have chosen a better place and would highly recommend them to everyone! More...
OK, so there are several factors why I rated this place 4 stars, but there are also reasons why I would normally rate this place fewer stars. I'll explain. We were visiting the area from out of town. Where we live, we have access to a lot of affordable, authentic Mexican food, especially tacos. So, I've had much better tacos than the ones I had here. That doesn't mean that Cilantro Taco's stuff is bad; it's pretty good. Considering the area Cilantro Taco serves, these are probably the best you can get within 20 miles. If you go here, try the street tacos. The meat is pretty good. Of course, there's onions and cilantro on the tacos. The corn tortillas seemed a bit - stale, maybe? - but still tasty. Now, what to skip - the chips & salsa. Honestly, I think their spicy salsa is just Valentina Mexican hot sauce with a little bit of spices mixed in to make it look interesting. Skip it. Unless, you want Valentina hot sauce on your tacos, because there's no hot sauce on the tables. Skip the cheese dip. It's such a tiny portion, it's not really worth it. This place is good. Better salsa would make it even greater. This place has tremendous potential and they seem to take pride in their stuff, so I'm sure they'll only get better with time. More...
Everyone loves this place! Their food truck comes to my job once or twice a month and it's delicious. Kinda pricey in my opinion. The food truck gives you a bowl smaller than a chipotle bowl for $9-$10. they also always pack a lot more lettuce than I need and a lot less sour cream than I need. They've always been very kind and friendly. They also always seems very clean. More...
Was in town for the weekend and decided to check this place out and we were so glad we did! Everything was absolutely delicious! We had the taco trio (shrimp, steak, chicken), steak nachos and tostadas which all had great flavor. Their house made chips, salsa and guacamole were delicious as well. I loved how their food was not greasy, unlike most hispanic food. The staff were all very friendly and tentative. I highly recommend trying this place whenever you get the chance! Their food is one of the best ive had! You won't be disappointed! More...
Absolutely delicious Mexican food. Family owned, VERY friendly. Great prices for the amount of food you receive.
The best tacos in town!
Love this place, great food.
Quality food and nice prices
Consistently fresh ingredients.Great customer service. The chips are so crisp you can hear Cinco de Mayo if you put one up to your ear.
This food is amazing. Its right by the gym, which kills every calorie I just burned but soooo delicious. I love it. I go EVERY week.
Good food, but a bit pricy for fast casual Mexican food.
Great menu, clean, friendly staff. Top drawer!
Great price, gray food.
There's a reason why I keep coming back here. I've only gone to Cilantro Tacos during their lunch special ($9 for two chicken tacos, chips and salsa, and a drink) so I haven't tried anything else on the menu besides that, but their tacos sure leave me wanting more after! Out of the three types of tortillas they offer (flour, corn, and hard shell), I have only tried the corn and hard shell. I enjoy both, but because the meal already comes with a side of chips, the crunch aspect I want is satisfied enough that now I only order corn tortillas. The size of the meal keeps me full afterwards, but sometimes I wish I could eat a third taco since I enjoy them that much. As for the salsa, it's hard for me to compare it to other salsas I've tried since I'm not that big of a salsa gal, but I don't dislike it!The reason why I give Cilantro Tacos 4 stars, however, is how cramped the space feels. When I get there before 11:30am--just within thirty minutes of the restaurant opening--it's fine since not many customers are there. Unfortunately, it seems like this place is a hot spot for lunch because once 11:45 hits, seats run out fast. While they do have outdoor seating, the first time I went was around 1:00pm and even those tables were all occupied. Despite how busy Cilantro Tacos can get, though, the food still comes out in a reasonable amount of time--within 5 to 10 minutes! More...
Tried Cilantro Tacos for the first time today in their new location and was very impressed. I ordered the carnitas tacos authentic style. The meat was very tender and well flavored and the toppings were fresh. I also ordered chips, guacamole, and the spicy red salsa. All of the sides were wonderful and the salsa has a great spicy kick to it. The inside of the establishment was clean and aesthetically pleasing. I will definitely be back to try more at Cilantro Tacos and recommend this place to anyone who's in the mood for authentic Mexican food. More...
OK, Cilantro's was always one of our favorite food trucks to hit up after a late night. We also used to make pilgrimage outs to Newberry to eat at their original location the new location in Town of Tioga is a nicer version of the original store. The food is just as good but the store and location are much nicer. We pretty much tried one of each from column a and B on this trip. My favorite is the steak. Typically I get them loaded with pickled jalapeños. There are numerous sauces to choose From, but my favorite is the salsa Verde. I'm really glad they build a location that's closer to my home, they are welcome addition to the neighborhood. More...
Yum! I've tried the burritos and the tacos and both are great. I'm a vegetarian so I get the bean ones and I wish they had a bit more seasoning. My boyfriend has gotten the fish, chicken, and steak and say they are all very flavorful so I wish they put some of that seasoning in the beans. Guacamole is delish and we always get it with their fresh hot chips to enjoy with our food. I recently tried the flan and it was great. Unlike any flan I've had before and I would recommend trying it out. More...
Very good place to eat!!!!
Delicious fresh food that can’t be beat. Great new location to!
Great food but I really miss the Newberry location, it had more space to dine-in, places to park as Tioga is always full, and I did notice the price change once they moved to Tioga. I wish they could of kept a location in Newberry. Anyways I enjoyed my food and congratulate you on your success. More...
Don’t know how it could get better than it was in Newberry but it is. So glad they are doing great in this new location!!
Do yourself a favor and try Cilantro Tacos! Great, friendly staff and the food....delicious! It's hard to find good "fast food" now a days. But this is real food! It's delicious and affordable. This is a great reason to support local. Try the Barbocoa and Pastor. Thanks you guys, keep up the great work! More...
Awesome food and lots of it.
So glad Cilantro Tacos moved into Tioga Town Center. I'd never eaten there before last week. Very fresh and tasty. Can't wait to go back.
Happy to have Cilantro Tacos in Tioga! Great experience last night for dinner. Delicious quesadilla & awesome service! We will be coming back soon!
I had to stop by the Newberry location on its last day.As always, the food was great. I've been a Cilantro Tacos fan since the beginning. I typically get beef tacos, rice and guac and chips. I'm not a lengua fan, just knowing what lengua is, but I sampled it this time. It was fantastic!I'm excited for the family as they move to their new location. And am looking forward to visiting the Tioga location. More...
Don't judge the book by the cover, wasn't no sure about this place by the look, but the food is amazing, nice service and great staff!
I'm from Charlotte, NC and I came to visit Florida and I really wish this restaurant was local to me... I've never had a better burrito before, I still think about it. It was such a damn good burrito and it's sad because I'll never experience it again. But hey, you're probably a local if you're reading this, so CHECK THIS PLACE OUT! AMAZING SERVICE TOO BTW! More...

Best lil hole in the wall joint in town!
Excellent food great service
Great little find from an out of town guest to Newberry. Tacos were excellent, lots of variety and everything is homemade! Chips and salsa are a must - gotta try the spicy green salsa and mild tomatillo. Always good to support local businesses - the food was extremely fresh and the employees were very friendly. Highly recommend for a quick casual lunch! More...
Its the most amazing tacos I've ever had. No joke. Juicy and fresh
I eat here all the time. Their food is amazing. Great staff. All around 10 out of 10. Plus they have the best tacos I've ever had. Taco bell better watch their back.
Can't wait until they open their place in Jonesville.
Nice family place. Has great food along with fast service.
Best tacos in north florida
Cilantro Tacos is one of those food trucks with lines around the block. I have had it a few times and it's pretty good! It's definitely on the pricey side and you can end up waiting a little longer depending which type of meat you order, especially if the line is long/they're at an event. This most recent time I went when they were at Blackadder Brewing and there was no line. I ordered the al pastor burrito and it was good. I spent $12 on it which I think is a little expensive. I got all of the additional things like lettuce, rice and beans, etc... This food truck lives up to its name and used a lot of cilantro which I love. If you're not a big fan of this herb maybe try something else. Overall I will go back and try to visit this food truck when I know it will be quieter. I am impatient so you probably won't catch me in line at a good truck rally waiting with 50 other people. :) More...
Great place in Newberry for some authentic tacos!! Don't be afraid to stop in and give them a shot!
Always delicious and the sweetest people working there
This place is fantastic! If you are looking for authentic, fresh, made to order tacos, come here! The marinated chicken for both the chicken taco and chicken taco salad were mind blowing! Seeped in flavor, grilled to perfection and mouth watering chicken that makes anything it is in a Star. Come, step inside this little shop and let it take your taste buds on a great trip! YUM! Really good food. Authentic. Food truck is also really good. Good place tor lunch or takeout dinner.
The best, most flavorful and fresh tacos you can get! Worth the drive to Newberry for sure! Excited to see they are coming to Tioga.
Very good, always fresh and don't forget the food truck which is awesome as well!! You won't be disappointed if you make the drive to Newberry!
Food was great as usual. Tacos were on point. We had one of each flavor. The chips, salsa and guacamole were out of this world. Sad that they are moving out of this location. Would highly recommend More...
Just happened to drive by Cilantro Tacos recently and had to drive back and try them for lunch. They have all the usual suspects you would expect (tacos, burritos, and quesadillas). The tacos are reasonably priced and they have a lunch special for $9. I was feeling adventurous so I decided to pick 2 tacos a la carte. I ordered the Al Pastor and a steak taco + loaded with all the toppings. You get to pick 2 free salsas so I went with the mild green salsa. OMG the green salsa. You can tell these are made fresh everyday. The steak taco was good but the Al Pastor is a game changer. It was so flavorful and delish. I would def be going back again when I'm craving authentic style tacos. More...
This is a unique place to get Mexican food. As a chef I must say the flavor profile is amazing.
The food is definitely fresh, and inspired - I found the flavors used in the meat to be very refreshing.
I am almost positive they use Worcestershire sauce when seasoning the ground beef, along with other spices.
I will make this my new go to place when I cannot figure out what to cook.
The prices are fair, and the building is not over run with bugs like some other similar places in the area.
Hats off to the owner for creating simple, yet tasty Mexican food at a fair price. More...
The best Mexican food around! The original location needs a little TLC but it is family owned and operated so I'll cut then some slack. Look for the food trucks around town because they are just as delicious! More...
We decided to check this place out because we heard it was good. I'm really glad we did. They have a sign up saying "we aren't fast food, please be patient" but after we placed our order we probably only waited 5 minutes. The drinks are self serve and you grab your own silverware. They have one girl working the front. She takes your order and brings you chips and salsa. They charge for the chips and salsa but it's well worth it. We got three types of salsa to try. They were all really good. The chips are homemade and ours were served warm. They were also seasoned which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered nachos and a chicken burrito we were both pleased with our meals. We also ordered the queso which was really good.
We had a great experience here. The food was amazing.
Edit:We have been here a bunch and have never been disappointed. More...
Absolutely love this place!! The best burrito in Florida is hidden in this little unsuspecting town. I'm serious, you have to be careful, after you eat their burrito you will want to go home and slap your mama.
I can't recommend this place more highly. The food is always good and the portions are generous. It is family owned and the pride and genuine appreciation for the customer shows every time I eat there.
We were visiting customers today in Newberry (less than 10 miles west of Gainesville), and they gave us a recommendation for lunch. And am I glad they did!Cilantro Tacos is in downtown Newberry (25740 W Newberry Rd), and the kind of place that that we wouldn't go in to unless we had a strong recommendation. The fare is Mexican but the two key findings are (1) the food is absolutely delicious, amd (2) the ingredients are fresh, fresh, fresh and everything is made on the premesis (right down to the chips). We both had the taco salads, with my wife having chicken for protein and me having ground beef (90% lean). What a winning combination we had.The restaurant is quite busy but the owner, Sydney, came out of the kitchen to speak to her customers, nontheless. Very friendly, great atmosphere and FABULOUS food! Do yourself a favor and, even if you have to drive a lttile ways, try Cilantro for yourself. I promise you WILL NOT regret it! More...
I absolutely love Cilantro Taco. It actually has authentic tacos with corn tortillas and meat + onions. The building is kind of run down but it is definitely a hole in the wall type of place. The food quality more than makes up for the run down décor. The Al Pastor tacos are my favorite. They have so much flavor and are tender and delicious! The workers are friendly and service is great. More...
The food here is very good. I love their tacos, they really seem authentic. The only issue is that the food prices are a bit too high for the amount of food that you get. Don't get me wrong, I will definitely be back, but I think they might want to back off on their food prices just a little bit. More...
I got al pastor and steak tacos and they were delicious!!! They have a food truck at swamphead every Tuesday and that's where I had it. Food came out fast and tasted very fresh. More...
The food was absolutely delicious! Everything tasted so fresh, and their hot sauces are pretty awesome too!
I had the chicken and barbacoa and it was so fresh and tasted amazing. The meat was prepared perfectly and the combination of the ingredients with the taco are spectacular. We also got the guacamole which was a hit and was really fresh. More...
Always fresh, well prepared food. Warm hearted owners who stay involved. Great local joint, and the food truck is spotted all over.
Real food, real goodDo not be put off by this restaurant's humble appearance: if it's good, tasty, fresh and probably authentic tacos, stop in here and find out for yourself. My companion and I had tacos, his grilled chicken and mine carnitas. Both were excellent, the Pico de Gallo is fresh house made and has a light bite. Newberry, Florida is a small town a bit off the main high speed killing pace of the interstate, but where Cilantro Tacos is, so take a break and try it. More...
Small place with absolutely no ambiance but great food. We go there frequently for lunch. Nice choice of Mexican dishes that all have your choice on meat.
For us the only problem are the large screen TV's that are always playing. There a bit annoying. More...
I'm glad to have tried this restaurant and enjoyed my fish tacos. However, I don't feel like its necessary to drive a ways down Newberry or to track down the food truck. If you happen upon the truck or are in the area, I would definitely recommend you try it. I've heard they are opening a new location in Gainesville and I am excited to be able to go there. More...
Cilantro is like sitting down at the table of a Mexican friend's house and being able to choose whatever you want to eat for lunch or dinner. The food is the most authentic that I have tasted in 50 years. Everything is made from scratch, and their meats have never been inside a freezer, which makes a HUGE difference in both taste and texture. I had steak fajitas, which came to the table hot, sizzling, and oh so delicious. My daughter ordered shrimp nachos. The shrimp was still being shelled in the kitchen, so our server had to check on it to see if there was enough to make her dish. It was absolutely delightful! Her nacho was 10 times better than the Billy Baroo at Moes. There were layers with melted NACHO cheese and other ingredients, such as black and red beans, olives, etc. The flavor of both dishes was incredible! My main complaint about this place is it's too far from my house in Bell, so I can't go there every day! Try it. You'll be glad you did. More...
So delicious. Fresh food, quick service with a smile. The chicken quesadillas and chicken soft tacos are so great! Seasoned perfectly. Chips and green salsa is yummy. We return again and again and are never disappointed. More...
Had a really bad experience today at the restaurant. We have been there before and we were really upset today. I don't ever post reviews but I'm doing so today. It's a long story and mostly about the person that was supposed to be waiting tables. What you must understand is the food is soooo amazing that when I'd usually get up and leave, we stayed. At the end of our stay things became a mess at the register and I finally said something. As much as my husband and I absolutely love their food I 100% planned to never return. The lady (maybe who owns it? I'm not sure) stepped up and talk to me. Even though I really wanted to pay for the food we had eaten they refused to take my money.. but not just that, they explained some things that were happening and made sure they had my promise to return. WOW. What a refreshing change. I could have spent the whole rest of my day being upset and they really changed my mind.. Their food is the best you can hope to find around here and the people running it are pure class. Thanks guys, we will be back. More...
Great food! Great service! Worth the drive from Gainesville. This restaurant has a great welcoming environment and the staff is always courteous!
The tacos are by far the best I've ever had! Very friendly staff and great service! Highly recommend this place. Also, follow on Instagram.
I had their food truck at Swamp Head Brewery for Taco Tuesday. It's exactly what you want after having the great beers of Swamp Head Brewery. My only complaint was flour tortilla. If these were corn tortilla this would have been a 5-star review. More...
My favorite place to get tacos in Gainesville. I've purchased from the food trucks though (at the Wednesday Farmer's Market and the Swamp Head Brewery). I've tried their chicken, barbacoa, Al Pastor, and carnitas tacos. The chicken and barbacoa tacos are average, easy to forget, but the Al Pastor and the carnitas are super good. I really like how fresh the ingredients taste and the tacos don't taste too heavy for me at all. Highly recommend getting either the Al Pastor or the carnitas. You can all mix and match the tacos (e.g. get 2 Al Pastor and 1 carnitas). I just wish it was a little bit cheaper- each taco averages out to about $3-5. More...
One out of favorite local spots to eat food in town. Great service, great food, great vibe. Definitely one of the MUST EATs in Newberry!
The best comforting, filling, flavorful, and fresh tacos I've had in Gainesville! That might not be saying much as I've only gotten tacos at 2 to 3 other establishments in Gainesville, but wow this food truck knows their stuff. The chicken tastes very good and I recommend the red sauce if you want a more spicy taste (the green is a lot more mild). More...
Wow! Okay, when I tell you that the fish and shrimp tacos were delicious, believe me. The flavors popped and the fresh ingredients did the same. The tacos were seasoned very well and the lime tidbits provided the right layer to the tacos. The guacamole was rich and delicious as well. Ten dollars for a two scanty tacos and two ounces of guacamole is too much in my opinion; however, I do see how they can get away with an up charge like this though. More...
The food is excellent. We especially like the carnitas. Their marinade or seasoning mix is right on. The soft corn tortillas are delicious. Also, the red sauce is smoky and delicious. The only thing keeping me from giving five stars is the seating/atmosphere. I would eat Cilantro Tacos' food anywhere I can get it, but wish they had a more comfortable restaurant. More...
It's a taco truck! Not super special, but you can't go wrong with this. I had Cilantro Tacos from the taco truck yesterday. They were good, greasy, but just enough grease. I wish there was a truly HOT hot sauce. I tried the green sauce that was advertised as mild and the red sauce, a mole, which was was advertised as hot. Mole sauce is rarely super spicy. Both sauces had great flavor. I'll be down to try more of their food in the future. More...
We went to the restaurant last night for a bite to eat. We were greeted and seated quickly, despite a somewhat steady flow of patrons coming in the door. Most of them were coming in for take-out. The interior is furnished simply, but it is clean, so no complaints at all there. Two of us ordered the chips with queso, I tried them and found the seasoning on the chips to be very overpowering to the point where you almost could not taste the queso. It was too... distracting.I ordered the steak quesadilla and the beef burrito. The burrito was very good, and with an addition of the hot sauce that you can find up front it was became even more so. The quesadilla I found to be a little sub-par, but then I have also experienced the quesadillas at a more authentic Mexican restaurant over in Gainesville to which I pretty much measure everything else against, so I may be a bit biased here. It was good, don't get me wrong, but it just didn't quite measure up.The hosting staff were all very nice and friendly, and we were able to banter with them without any issues. Really, I would have given them five stars if it were not for the seasoning on the chips. I think there is room for improvement there and with the quesadilla, but beyond that I think they have great food and service, and they are certainly worth going for a bite to eat. More...
This place is the bomb. I've never been to their actual restaurant, but the food truck is amazing. This is authentic Tex mex and it's delicious. I always get the tacos. Lately I've had the shrimp tacos, but I usually get the beef. They are often outside of swamphead or at Gators events. You can choose from tacos, quesadillas, nachos, or burrito. They offer chicken, steak, beef, carnitas, and shrimp or fish. I would highly recommend the tacos. You get 3 tacos for $9, $10 or $11 depending on the choice of meat. It is then topped with onions, lettuce, cheese, cilantro, and sour cream. You can also choose sauce. The food truck usually pops up wherever there is a large event, but either way keep an eye out for these guys!! More...
Taste was good, service was fast and very good, price was very reasonable Upcharge on the specialty meats & more for imported beer but not outrageous. I would say the extras - $1.99 for chips and (a little cup) salsa and $3.99 for queso (same little cup) seemed a bit much for size but not outrageously priced. We will definitely be back! More...
We had lunch there today. Probably the best tacos in the area. I had the 3 taco lunch (mahi, Carnitas, beef) with a side of guacamole. The owner told me they are opening a 2nd location at 13th St & 23rd Ave. It will be a hit! More...
One of the best Mexico food places I have ever being too! The owners and waitress were great and friendly and the food was the best!
This is the most authentic Mexican food outside of El Paso TX and Juarez MX This food is not to be missed. It's a tiny little place but if you go at an off time they'll make you feel as though you are an owner. We were offered samples of all their fresh salsa and pico and sauces. Their burritos are the bomb especially with the marinated pork that's simmered all day. We eat here every chance we can get More...
Tried Cilantro Food Truck at a benefit for the Carson Springs Wildlife Sanctuary in Gainesville, Florida. The word on Cilantro tacos is simple fresh ingredients prepared carefully and quickly. The wife and I tried the chicken tacos with sour cream and the shrimp tacos with hot sauce. The chicken was perfectly bite size and tender and the onion lettuce and cilantro were extremely fresh. The shrimp were tender and well seasoned and the veggies were perfect. It one of those meals were you feel full but not weighted down after eating. I love their hot sauce too. Overall great food. I'd like to try their burritos and quesadillas. More...
This review is for Sam here, if she's working, your food will be perfect! she's super nice and the food is good.
Came in late and they stayed open for our large party. Service is amazing and food is delicious. Absolutely love their steak quesadillas!
Great hole in the wall taco joint. Very good meat! I had the fish tacos and can't say enough good about it. Great flavor! Hubby had a carnitas quesadilla that he said we the BEST quesadilla he has EVER had in his life. Simple menu, a few bottled beers, and Pepsi products. Ambience is not their strong suit. It's small and the decor is on the cheap side but the food is fantastic! More...
This restaurant has great food and great service. The burritos are huge and delicious. They also have a food truck that sometimes goes to special events around town. When in Newberry, it's always a nice experience at Cilantro Taco. More...
I absolutely love this place. They come into Swamp Head every Tuesday, where I'm pretty sure I've had every item they offer. Nachos are amazing, but their burritos have my heart. Something not to be missed is their red hot sauce. I don't know what's in it, but it's complex, earthy, and HOT. I've never been disappointed More...
There are two things I love about Cilantro Taco -the super delicious tacos and the people who make them!I have visited both the brick and mortar in Newberry and the food trailer that can be found out and about in Gainesville. Service and food at both locations are totally on point! Now let's talk tacos...the ingredients are fresh, the tortillas are tasty and the fillings are divine! My husband (who isn't easily impressed) loves the carnitas tacos. They're amazingly delicious and have a really unique taste. I love the veggie tacos. They're loaded with rice, beans, veggies and topped with cilantro -yum to the maximum power! I've had plenty of veggie tacos over the years and most are just okay, but these are something special. Aside from serving up some of the freshest, tastiest mex in town, they spend a great deal of time supporting our community and other local businesses. In my opinion, that's pretty darn awesome. I had their ground beef burrito from a food truck. It was a religious experience. Enough said.
Cilantro Taco had a truck at our art party and it was delicious. I had their shrimp tacos and they were absolutely the best shrimp tacos I have had in a very long time. I want to check out their restaurant now. More...
Absolutely the best Mexican restaurant ever! Every thing fresh, healthy and cooked to order (which takes a little longer, but you can enjoy fresh house made pico de gallo and chips while you wait. )I asked for a burrito bowl which is not on the menu but chef made it up for me anyway. This is kinda like Nachos grande but replace the chips with rice. There are 5 meat choices, I ordered it with barbicoa, a marinated shredded pork. It looked so good, the people at the next table ordered the same thing. It was delicious. The servers, chef and owner are mostly family and they treat guests like part of the family. We love it here and come here often. More...
Delicious tacos! The first REAL food I've been able to find in the south so far. A little gem of a place with reasonably priced, freshly made fare.
The only thing that is stopping this from being a complete 5 is their service. While friendly, it is slow and you may have to get up from your table to get someone's attention.Other than that, this food is fantastic. Easily the best "authentic" Mexican joint in the Gainesville area. If you go, make sure you get some of their homemade, fresh, Pico de Gallo. I could eat it with a spoon for dinner. For the main course you have got to go with the 3 steak tacos served "authentic" style (includes only cilantro and fresh onion). So delicious! More...
Cilantro tacos made me tacos for the first time last night, via food truck. They were excellent, but not quite transportive. Either the steak or the sauce I put on top was slightly over-salted. The barbacoa and pork tasted fresh and just a touch fatty. I'd like a tiny bit more flavor from the meat and something simple and extraordinary from the other ingredients, to place them atop the regional Mexican cuisine competition. Right now they share that spot, in my view, which is quite awesome of them. The ingredients were authentic and fresh. As typical with food trucks and taco orders, the portion is a bit small. I will be returning regularly. More...
Best tacos. Best quesadillas. Best nachos. Best everything! Cilantro is worth the drive to Newberry (they have a food truck that visits Gainesville regularly now too!). I have no idea what all they do to the meats that they use, but it's so delicious! Not only is the food great, but the family that owns the restaurant are incredibly good people! They make you feel like family when you visit. More...
First off, a must eat place if you're in the Gainesville and Newberry area. A true hole in the hole and hidden gem. The Guacamole and Chips are the best I've had. Most guac I've tried, the onion overpowers the whole dip. Cilantro's guac is very neutral and the pepper accompanies the guac very well. I ordered 4 different tacos, two soft shell and two hard shell, I didn't really enjoy the fish but the steak, carnita, ground beef were amazing. The homemade salsa made the tacos even better. The food arrived quickly, and the service was excellent. The owner stopped by to make sure my girlfriend and I were enjoying the food and made a few recommendations for us to try next time. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! More...
They ran out of their chips so we did not try that although salsa was fresh. Hubby and I both ordered 3 tacos each. Of the al pastor, barbacoa and carnitas I prefer the al pastor. Small size but for $2 each pretty good tasting meat. I would go back again for their tacos and try their burrito.
They charge for the chips and salsa ($1.99) but it's well worth it. We got three types of salsa to try. They were all really good. The chips are homemade and ours were served warm. They were also seasoned which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered nachos and a chicken burrito we were both pleased with our meals. We also ordered the queso which was really good. Basically we had a great experience here. The food was amazing. More...
If you're ever in the downtown Newberry area, you should pop in and try Cilantro Taco. It is your quintessential Mexican hole in the wall, with eclectic nautical, Mexican, and Gator decor to match. I've heard many good things about Cilantro, so I decided to make the 30 minute drive to try it out. The menu is quite simple. You can choose from tacos to burritos to quesadillas, etc. They have all of the basics with a plethora of meats including lengua, three kinds of pork (carnitas, cubed pork, and the off menu, but delicious 'Al Pastor'), whiting, and more. There is a minimal surcharge for the fancier of meats, but this won't set you back for more than two bucks. They will only charge you the most expensive upcharge, so don't be confused by the menu! We were given chips and salsa while they cooked our meal. Everything is made to order and extremely fresh, so good food takes some time. The chips were pretty standard. I usually like mine piping hot, but these were okay. It came with a milder avocado based salsa, medium pico, and a spicy roasted chipotle salsa. I thoroughly enjoyed the spiciest sauce. The waiter was extremely nice and gave us an extra roasted poblano salsa on the house. This one was equally as tasty and reminded us of black beans. Our food came out as it was cooked. I ordered the Al Pastor (pork cooked with chunks of pineapple), chicken, and steak. Our tacos were topped with tomato, cilantro, cheese, and onions. They also have a house made hot sauce on the counter that is pretty great. Our service was exceptional. The server was attentive, caring, and quite generous. The owner was equally as friendly. We spoke to him for a long time. He was a very nice man who fostered great relationships with all of his clientele. Restaurant patrons all seemed to know him very well and hugged him on their way out. He always made sure that everyone was taken care of the minute they sat down. It was great getting to know the owner and his family. He also gave us a few menu items to try on the house. It was very generous and nice of him. I really appreciated the gesture, but felt a little bit uncomfortable accepting free lengua and flan. (It may have been because my friend brought a DSLR camera or because he was happy to see Asian people since the family is from Southern California. I wouldn't doubt that it was out of the kindness of his heart since he was a very thoughtful man. I just would not expect this every time.)Overall, my experience at Cilantro Taco was great. The food was really tasty. You can taste the freshness in their salsas and the juiciness of their meat. It was not out of this world amazing, but I can see their business flourishing more as time progresses. They just need a few minor tweaks here and there with their decor and hours, but they are definitely on the right track.Make sure to ask the staff about their off menu items. The Al Pastor was definitely my favorite meat! It had the perfect mix of sweet and savory. I also overheard other restaurant patrons order Carne Asada fries, which are a west coast staple that are not on the menu. If you are ever feeling adventurous, or are in the downtown Newberry area, I would give Cilantro Taco a try. They are open until 8:30PM, so make sure to head out early! The family will definitely make you feel right at home. More...
Oh my goodness. We ate here once when they first opened on a recommendation from a friend, and fell in love. We're treated like family, fed tremendous portions of fresh-cooked and fresh-stored food, and always get our money's worth. From handmade chips and salsa's to some of the tastiest meats you'll ever encounter, Cilantro Tacos has become our go-to for quality dining.Try the al pastor, the lengua, and ask for the meth fries! OMG... More...
Meth(the owner) rules! Best tacos I've ever ate in my life. They catered to the local motocross race and were great!
Not a fan of "Americanized" Mexican food so it is rare when I happen upon a Mexican restaurant that comes pretty close to being authentic Mexican as advertised. I travel to Tulum, Mexico at least once a year to cave dive. This year I made two trips to Mexico and as always I stop into their many local taco stands during my visit. I had Cilantro's soft corn tacos (one steak and two of their pork aka al pastor). In Mexico they do not put shredded cheese on their soft tacos but they did at Cilantro. I did not mind as it did not take away from the flavor of the well marinated meats nor the fresh onions, lettuce, and cilantro in my tacos. My friend had their shrimp plate which comes with fresh tortillas, rice, and beans. He proclaimed his dinner delicious and noted how fresh everything taste. He said his dinner did not come out of a can. Our server was excited when she learned it was our first time to Cilantro. She took time to explain that the owner makes all the sauces and dips every morning. The meats are not cooked until an order is placed. She answered all our questions about their menu items. She also mentioned they just started a food truck and its location would be on their Facebook page. The owner came out to meet us and was appreciative of my feedback in what we had eaten. Thrilled to find a local place that will satisfy my soft taco cravings until my next trip to Mexico. More...
This place is a little out of the way but if I'm in the area, I have to stop by! It's definitely a hole in the wall, but the food is made fresh. The chips come with two salsas. One is the cool, refreshing one with actual chunks of avocado and the other is more chipotle flavored with a kick of spice at the end. Sometimes they offer a 3 for $5 deal so ask just in case! Today, I got the barbacoa and carnita tacos and it was amazing. Both the meats are very tender, juicy, and full of flavor (savory with a hint of sweetness). I always ask for them authentic style which comes with onions, cilantro and lime. You can get them regular with cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes but if you're going to eat here I definitely recommend trying them authentic. It really enhances the flavor of the meat. definitely stop by :) More...
Very nice employees. Food was delicious. The Barbacoa was the best dish served. The employees were extremely friendly, warm and welcoming. The home-like environment was one that will leave a lasting memory and will definitely bring us back! More...
A small family owned restaurant present the best tacos in town! For tacos, I think three factors matters: freshness, flavor, texture(of the protein). Cilantro Taco nail it in all three factors. The only thing I want to complaint is: I have to drive over half an hour to get here! Otherwise I would love to eat there five days a week! More...
OK, I admit it. Based on creds no stronger than a couple of vacations in rural Mexico and two years' living in San Antonio, Spouse and I have become Mexican food snobs. Spare us your fancy decor and your mariachis (tho' a margarita or two won't be dissed). Our favorite places are divey, preferably where we are among a handful of Anglos in the room. Well, we didn't find that at Cilantro - yes, its decor is informal, the servers are friendly, but everyone except the owner/chef was definitely Anglo. We were there today on the basis of Yelp -- and boy were we pleased. The menu is small, but everything - everything - is totally fresh. Their barbacoa was excellent, and the fish tacos were to die for. Beautifully marinated fish, which the chef recommends you try with their absolutely fresh pico de gallo. (She says they make it at least 2-3 times a day.) The beans are like what I know as charro beans, none of those lardy refritos . . . and the rice was your basic, properly cooked Mexican rice, golden and yummy. Unless you specify otherwise, everything comes on homemade corn tortillas - and our only issue is that they are so fresh they crumble when you try to eat them. We ordered the combo plate - two tacos plus rice and beans, $7.95 -- and had our tacos with the works - cheese, tomatoes, cilantro, onion -- flavors blended beautifully. Oh yes, you do have to ask (and pay a bit extra) if you want chips and salsa. The salsas are all home made - green comes gentle or fire-roasted, and the red is fire-roasted fire. The chips are from a grocery bag, not really worth it - I'd rather have a plate of tortillas to dip. Our only quibble: Cilantro Taco would do well to take a page from some of the divey-er places we've frequented, and double up on the tortillas for the tacos - we'll ask for this the next time.Because yes, admitted Mexican food snobs that we are, we're already planning when we can take the 25-minute drive to Newberry again. There are other things on that menu I can't wait to try. More...
Totally cool little family taco joint. The food is good and surprisingly filling. The staff was really friendly too. I've got at least 4 other menu items I need to go back and try. Baha Cali inspired flavors cal to me. More...
The people that give this place less than 5 stars have no idea what good food is. If you judge this place based on the attire of the waitstaff go eat at Taco Bell and enjoy the uniforms.
Every time I come here, I have amazing service and spectacular authentic fish tacos. The hot sauce is the perfect amount of spicy. Wish there was a Gainesville (or any city I visit often) location. My meat eating friends are in love with the the Barbacoa and El Pastor tacos. Highly recommended!!!! More...
Fantastic, authentic burritos and tacos. Especially love the shrimp and the carnitas. The salsas are spot on. Friendly and very competent service. Really great place.
This is one of my favorite places to eat in the area. Serves chipolte style burritos and tacos, around the same price, but they taste SO good. They use actual steak in their burritos, my wife loves the chicken. If you want Chipolte or Noes, drive out here, you'll never want to go anywhere else. More...
We visit Gainesville often and while they have no shortage of Mexican options, this place is actually authentic and has the freshest ingredients. Everything is made to order. We tried the chicken, steak and fish tacos and the taco salad with chicken. Since it was our first time, they set up a salsa bar to try. It's reminiscent of the mom and pop taco shops you find in San Diego. You can't go wrong with this place! It's family run and everyone is really friendly!Bonus is they have real authentic coca cola without the high fructose corn syrup in the glass bottles! More...
I absolutely love this place! The staff is so friendly and welcoming. I always get the burrito grande carnitas! I never really got into carnitas meat with my mexican food until I came here. This place never disappoints with food. The burritos are very filling to say the least. I usually get take out when I would go there and it was always done in 15 min or less. I loved this place so much I would go once a week at least to get my burrito fix. When I come home again to visit I'll be stopping in for my carnitas burrito like old times :) More...
Such nice people! Gave us salsa taste test with specially made tea, the tacos were so good! The shrimp tacos were the best, closely followed by the fish tacos. Much recommended.
Thank you Cilantro Taco! Newberry is/was in desperate need of more GREAT restaurants and you fit the bill. In the 1+ year you've been open, I've eaten there at least a dozen+ times. I have never been disappointed in the food. I've made sure to try all the meat options and they are ALL great. I really love the barbacoa. Freshly made every day! The service is awesome. Always met with a friendly face. Thanks for choosing Newberry! More...
As others have already said, this place has unbelievably fresh and amazing food. From the salsa to the guacamole to the tacos themselves, everything was delicious! A true hidden gem and no doubt I will be back. More...
We found this lil hole in the wall while driving thru this small town. We were promptly greeted & given chips & salsa on the house since it was our first time there. (I think chips & salsa are $1.99) the brought us 3 different salsas & the green was our fav! Reasonable prices & a very friendly atmosphere. We'll back! More...
The Carnitas are PERFECT. I also enjoyed the steak tacos. I suggest getting them "authentic" or "street" style, which means cilantro, onion, maybe pico de gallo.Good salsa, great tacos, good value, and family owned. More...
Salsa is fresh and spicy. Guac is delicious. Taco combo is great portion.
This food at Cilantro Tacos is amazing. They make fresh food NOT fast food as everything is made to order. The trip is worth it from GVL and you must try the barbacoa tacos.
I don't make it out to Newberry too often to eat, but a friend recently recommended that I make a trip to try Cilantro Taco. I found the drive well worth it as their tacos were some of the best I've had around here.Fresh is the operative word when it comes to describing their tacos. You can clearly tell that they use high quality fresh produce, and it's always a good sign to me when a restaurant uses corn tortillas by default. The proteins (I recommend steak, my wife recommends fish) are well seasoned and finish off this great taco experience with flying colors. At first I was skeptical because we started off our meal with chips that tasted like they came out of the bag. The salsa with the chips tasted fresh but lacked much flavor (the hot salsa is a little better than their mild), and the amount of salsa they give you is so little it feels like they're rationing it. I hope they take a page out of La Pasadita's book and eventually go to made-to-order chips which patrons can pay for. You want the first bite of food you serve guests to knock them off their feet. Luckily their tacos easily make up for this.I like hole-in-the-wall places, and this is definitely one. Come for the food, not the ambiance. The staff has been very inviting and friendly, and the food comes out quick. You can tell this is a family affair, which adds to the appeal of Cilantro Taco. While eating here I feel their passion to serve high quality food and make sure guests are happy. I get the impression that they are easing into the business, and with great tacos as their cornerstone, I feel like they'll do quite well. More...
I stopped to try the new place and it was amazing, I got the hard shell beef tacos with pico and green salsa. I am a foodie and the taste was great. I think I am addicted to the sauces. Plans to be one of my go to spots. The people are great and service was good. Thanks for coming to Newberry More...
Just stopped by to pick up dinner on the way home, & a man came into the restaurant with a yellow order slip as we were dining. He was clearly coming fresh from working outdoors. The mother/wife/owner of the restaurant came rushing out to greet him saying, "Oh thank you, thank you, we were just about to have to come for these!" He replied with, "It's my pleasure ma'am, I thought it'd help ya out a bit." Even though his shirt was dirty she gave him a big hug & thanked him again for delivering whatever it was himself. She walked with him outside &, I could see out the window beside me, the man lifting a crate of tomatoes off the back of an old pickup truck, & carrying it towards the back door as the woman guided & laughed & chatted with him, the man picking out a couple very green leaves. After a quick conversation between the brother & sister of the Cilantro Taco family, I learned that this man was a local farmer who sells them freshly picked tomatoes & other veggies every week. So not only does this place make the most delicious food I've ever experienced, but they use fresh & local veggies? I think I'm going to start a fan club.Side note: the woman was wearing a different colored apron when she came back out to the front. I was kinda glad to see that. More...
Nothing short of incredible. From the food to the people it is just a great spot. We had the tacos and burritos and the made from scratch flan. The owners pour their heart into their food and it is just so authentic. We will definitely be back! More...
Incredible!!! Totally worth the drive out to Newberry for the fresh food and super nice staff!
First off, I want to be clear that I'm giving this 5 stars for the food and for the staff. If I including the building, seating, ambiance, etc...it would have to be more like 3 stars, but in the end, what's the primary reason we all go out to eat To eat GOOD food and hopefully interact w/ nice people. I don't think anyone says to themselves "Hmmm....I'm in the mood to go to a really fancy, trendy, hip, etc....place that has terrible food and a rude staff"....With that said, this is a tiny hole in the wall place in Newberry that serves up some amazing food. The menu is 1 page and they offer both hard or soft shell tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fajitas, nachos and tostadas...all with your choice of beef, steak, chicken, barbacoa, fish or shrimp. Everything is fresh and made to order. The reason why I know that is b/c the owner came out to say hi and introduce himself and his family and to let us know that everything is cooked to order and humbly asked us for our patience. As nice as that was though, it wasn't really needed b/c they had the food out in less than 10 minutes anyways and it was piping hot and incredibly tasty. They even make a homemade Mexican flan that was really good. ***Note that as of writing this post the menu on their Facebook page is NOT up-to-date. They have several other dishes (like fajitas and tostadas) that aren't on the FB menu. I told them about it so hopefully they'll get it updated soon.***Between the 8 of us, we tried just about everything on the menu, all except the barbacoa, and when the owner realized we hadn't tried it, he brought us all out a free barbacoa taco to try b/c he claimed it's the best thing in the menu. He was RIGHT! I thought my steak and shrimp fajitas with the homemade verde sauce was awesome, but man, the barbacoa was to die for. On top of the great food, it is fairly cheap and is an absolute no-brainer if you're looking for a quick, healthy, cheap meal.Like a few others have mentioned, the dining room is really small w/ only about 8-10 tables, so this will be an excellent takeout option or a quick dine-in option if you can grab a table (it can get really packed in there).Hands down the best food in Newberry right now (don't even try and say Backyard BBQ is better....) I was glad to see this place open recently. I decided to try them out. I was pleasantly surprised. The food is good, more like home made. I got the combo plate of 2 Tacos. Rice beans chips salsa & a drink for $6.99. Prices are reasonable and the people are nice. It's a family owned business & they fixed up a old building pretty nice. It's got a sort of down home casual feel. I recommend them if you want more authentic Mexican food. They strive to achieve that. And I see they are pretty popular with the locals. The decor is from Mexico. It's a nice little place with good food & service.:-) More...
Love this place!! The people are nice, the food is delish, and it seems healthier and fresher compared to other Mexican food. I'll be going here a couple times a week for sure. :) More...
