The menu consists of a great assortment of cheese. Although the long list can seem overwhelming, it does a great job of explaining each cheese. Each one comes with a unique pairing and the chef was very good with acknowledging food allergies. The wine list was perfect and also provided a short description of flavor. More...

We stopped here for a quick bite and a drink before a show.  The wine was delicious. We ordered 2 cheeses, both yummy, the kale salad, endive and pear salad and some peppers.  Everything was well done, generous portions for 3 to share and arrived in good time. I am still thinking about the endive salad...so good!  I will definitely go back and have a more leisurely meal some time. More...

We wanted cheese and wine and found this place. Oops, let me reword that: She wanted cheese and wine and I found this place. More expensive than I expected because main reason to visit was not the quality of cheese but the ambiance. Didn't know that the highlight of this place was the cheese. I am no cheese expert, maybe those worth that much, no regrets though; she is happy and I am happy. Not just that she is happy, also cheese-happy!The highest % of tip I left on the table for the bill of this size since I moved to NYC. (read: good service)On top of that, I rarely comment on places, only for the ones that I want to remember. More...

This place certainly has nice cheese, but that ignores its numerous other charms.  It really is tiny (as in "our tiny house air b& b had a living room this size!"), set on a non-descript side street, and open evenings only.  But for chic comfort, tasty bites (in addition to cheese they have some lovely desserts), wide wine selection by the glass or bottle, and great service, and civilized price, it should get a guidebook triple star. Cassellula is THE PLACE for those of us who love cheese and wine! One of the workers talked us through the cheese case since they were not too busy on the night we visited: a Friday after a Broadway show. We shared a grilled cheese (so delicious and rich!!) plus two types of cheese from the case. We also had a red blend that was fabulous. This is a cozy, cool, delicious place to share a love of cheese. More...

Hands down the best cheese pairing bar in all of Manhattan. I discovered Casellula through my company because my boss was friends with the owner and so hosted wine and cheese events every month for the women in our group with the cheese being catered by Casellula. The wine, despite being chosen by a renowned sommelier, was fine whereas the cheeses were always BOMB and I always appreciated the fascinating and patient explanations for the pairings that Casellula's owner provided. So I decided to cough up my own money to try some more at the actual restaurant and am itching to go back just three days later. Sure, you can get cheese from Trader Joes or Whole Foods. But have you had cheese expertly paired with matcha fudge? Or with carrot chips? Or with some sort of wasabi infused magic sauce? The creativity, as well as the expertise, is phe-nomnom-inal (see what I did there?). The variety of cheese offered is also fantastic. My boyfriend and I got the 6 cheeses for 5 deal as well as two glasses of wine each. I forgot which cheeses and which wines, but they were all absolutely delectable. Service was also friendly (our waiter did unfortunately forget our order of peppers but I won't hold that against him too much because he did remember me gushing over the matcha fudge and so included a different type of fudge in the cheese plate). And the atmosphere on a Friday evening past 11pm was perfect - not too loud, candle-lit and cozy. I will be back! More...

One star is because this lovely wine bar is only a block from home, but the cheese selection and unique wines (by the glass) warrant a solid 4 stars. We chose the wines we wanted to drink and let the cheese maven make complementary selections. Each cheese, placed in the best order for tasting, was accompanied by something that belonged with it. From a honey or a jam to a preserved citrus, this cheese guru knows her stuff. Next time I'll try some real food. . . Maybe. I really liked the cheese. Great place to meet some friends and hang. We always leave one night free of reservations in NYC to stop in to any place that calls our name.  This was our choice and oh my we're we rewarded.  It's a quaint nine table spot that welcomes you like home.  Impressive cheese and charcuterie selections.  All there food items are prepared in a well outfitted corner of the restaurant and fill the room with delicious smells.  We opted for the empanadas and pigs ass sandwich and both were wonderful.  In particular the chef is a genius with the sauces paired with each meal.  I could slather myself in them!    Thoughtful wine selections and polite unintrusive service has me recommend Casellula with zero reservations.  You will enjoy your stop here. As cheese is my absolute favorite food, I'd been wanting to try this local joint out for a while. Finally, the opportunity struck when a friend and I were looking for some wine and a light dinner. It was about 8 pm on a Saturday, and the place was modestly full. We opted to sit at the bar and save the table for someone looking to have an a full meal. We ordered a modestly-priced Chianti, which was fairly tasty. We thought about ordering the fromagere's selection plate, but neither of us like bleu chese, so we didn't want to have a selection where we weren't sure if we'd enjoy one of the options. Instead, we ordered 3 cheeses of our own selection: Petit Billy (very soft), Dalmantiac (semi-firm), and another the name of which I cannot remember, but it was from CA (firmer). The first came with a spectacular Passionfruit Chia pudding pair, the second with an savory oniony dip, and the third with sun-dried tomato pesto. All were yummy. My only complaint was that they could have provided a bit more bread with the selections (no one likes to ask for more!). All in all, a good spot and I would return, but it did not knock my socks off. More...

Oh Casellula how I love thee. Let me count the ways...I have been to Casellula 5 times in the past month. Yes I'm a neighborhood gal, but that's only part of the reason I frequent this joint so often. Big reason 1 - the food. The menu is pure yum. The endive salad should be the city's new IT salad. It's insanely good. The pastrami sandwich is probably the best pastrami sandwich you'll come across in the city. But the real lure is the fromagger's choice cheese plate. Every cheese pairing is delicious and surprising. There was a blue cheese with maple fudge pairing, another cheese with a caramelized onion marmalade. It's the best cheese plate on the planet. Get it. You won't be disappointed. The wine selections are on point and their sommelier always recommends right. So why the 4 stars? The seating issue. There are no resos so it's first come first serve but because it's such a small establishment they will only seat you at the exact right table. This means that even though there are plenty of 4-person tables available, your party of 2 will not be seated until an exact table for 2 people opens up. They will not seat you at the 4 person table. Even if it remains empty for the next half hour.  It makes sense for a small establishment but as a diner waiting and waiting for the exact right table can get frustrating. More...

Came here on a date night, and sure enough, the wine and cheese brought about some sparks. They seem to have a revolving menu of wines but on that night, I had a Syrah, which had such a spicy kick to it, yum! As for cheese, we had some Brie melted over bread covered in a spread of pistachio butter and cranberries. It was divine. This is a really great spot for a D A T E or a GNO. I was here on a Monday night and found it to be nearly the perfect ambiance. It wasn't full or very empty (thank you school nights) which I love when going to an intimate spot like this. I highly recommend all those that stop by on a Monday to try the fresh mozzarella - which is only available on Monday's. It's an experience where they "make" the fresh mozzarella in front of you from the cheese curds. I personally love mozzarella and this really made for a fun and interactive experience with the staff. We also got the pig sandwich which was delicious! It was super rich but came with pickles to lighten and freshen up the taste BUDS. The brussel sprouts we got were good but I would recommend trying something else on the menu - we just really needed veggies that night LOL. Overall, I 100% enjoyed my experience here with the great food and great wine. More...
