Today our center had a training on our new social/emotional Curriculum. I am very excited to start introducing this program to my preschool classroom. I love how it uses communication between peers. It gives children the courage to speak up and come up with a solution to help deal with the many emotions our children face daily. With Hands on tools, such as puppets, emotion cards, conflict mats and teacher handbooks it gives us the tools to encourage children to deal with their emotions in a positive way and work together instead of hiding their emotions or relying on a adult to come solve it for them. I feel that having duplicate items in the classroom would be a benefit so if there were more than one child having problem to solve this would allow an immediate way for several child to use the program instead of waiting for the item. In our center we plan on incorporating the characters into many play areas in the classroom and sharing the tools with parents to discuss at home. By doing this it will allow the child to use the problem solving tools learned in this program at home to solve problems and open up communication in families.
