It's a good place for events and expos. It's not that big to be honest. Furniture is really old fashioned.

Fun, secret bar with no signage except a red light above the door. It's a small space inside so definitely a place better for a couple or small group as there is limited seating. My drink was called the Kona cocktail - muddled pineapple with rum...the perfect combo! It was smooth, easy to drink and could've had a few more. They also offer drinks that serve a large group but it does require a table. More...

Great cozy venue for day events.  Rustic old Barbary Coast feeling space much like the Fillmore.  There is a stage for performers though.  We had a company event here with food and drink served.  We also had a band perform (Saved by the '90s).Good acoustics and plenty of space for about 150-200 people.  Would have more events here if I didn't think my guests would mind  the Broadway neighborhood.Highly recommend More...

This place is the home of the former Mabuay Gardens AKA "The Mab" or "The Mab on Broadway". This spot has a special historical significance to many Punk Rock bands who played gigs here back in the 1980's.

Delicious food that felt healthy and fresh. Edward and his team were super easy to work with and really helpful with all my questions in the pre-planning stage as well as onsite. This proved to be a wonderful place to host our medical event in San Francisco back in May! Quite a number of doctors who attended felt this was our best venue yet!  A great compliment, especially since we've hosted at even 4-5 star venues in the past! The nostalgic theater had great atmosphere, acoustics, large projection screens, AV technicians, etc. As a meeting planner, Francesca was detail oriented and a pleasure to work with. The Oriental buffet was enjoyed by all! Two bar areas are also onsite. If you're searching for a full service event space -- start here.Clare B. More...

I thought I posted earlier, but maybe just wrote on Facebook.   What a great event we had one month ago at Broadway Studios!  I'm just looking at all the pictures from my daughter's Bat Mitzvah and really can't get over how this venue really made a huge difference in the feel of our party. It was a fantastic event. The place looked beautiful, the staff was friendly and attentive, the food was terrific, everyone danced all night long and Francesca really added her own special touches to make it a perfect occasion for my daughter and my family and all 115 people that attended the event. Everyone danced for 4 hours straight! The projector screens are fantastic for showing videos and slideshows, the balcony is a cool place to hang out and get away from it all (though most of my guests didn't take advantage of that).  We even did a balloon drop at the end that was really cool. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that we had a few miscommunications during the planning that I was uncomfortable with. It all worked out great and I can't say enough nice things about Francesca.  I would highly recommend Broadway Studios to anyone planning a fun party (corporate event, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Wedding etc..)!! It's not your typical country club, hotel conference room setting! Thank you Francesca and Carl! More...

I love this place as an event venue. It's spacious, and I love the old theater feel to it. Once you enter Broadway Studios, you walk up a flight of stairs and walk down the main hallway to get to either a reception area or main stage area. There's also an upstairs balcony that has a green room. Francesca and her crew made setup and cleanup easy for us. The main stage area is built for rigging and projection, which is great. The only iffy part was the food. The catered lunch was incredible, but breakfast and coffee break snacks were obviously just sweets from Costco. But overall they are flexible with logistics, which saves us some stress. Overall there are plenty of possibilities to craft your event here, whether its for entertainment or professional development. Check it out! More...

We held a 150-person event at Broadway, on short notice, and Francesca and her team were incredible. The space itself was versatile -- stage, bar, separate areas, balcony -- and quite full of character. Ours was a business-y affair, but from the looks of the trapeze lines and disco ball hanging from the ceiling, you could hold some epic parties there as well. I went here recently for a party that was hosted here and was beyond pleasantly surprised! Space is huuge and beautiful, and it was very well set up. Bar is off to the side so there's room for people to dance and the people who want to stand and watch everybody without bumping into each other. A back room with which they had a large fan and ice cold water for all of us dancing, and awesome bathrooms with more than one stall and plenty of toilet paper (can make or break a venue in my eyes) People who worked there were amazing, always on top of their duties without getting in the way or throwing looks of aggravation. Nobody had any problems and we were able to enjoy ourselves thoroughly in a safe and fun venue. Very accommodating, they had a projection movie screen on which old movies were played, and great speakers that weren't overwhelming loud for playing the music. I look forward to the next time I get to go to an event here! More...

I rented this venue for a birthday party, and it was an all-round FANTASTIC experience. The owners are incredibly kind people completely dedicated to the success of your event. The staff were super friendly and attentive. I'm reading some of the less-than-five-star reviews and I think the problems there were that the people throwing the events did not plan well, rather than the venue and its staff being to blame. Security was flawless, the bar tending was flawless, the AV equipment set-up was flawless, and again, the owners were EXTREMELY ACCOMMODATING, wonderful people. This is the sort of local business we really want to support, sf, I wish I could give them six stars. More...

This venue is an up scale dance club on Broadway Street in San Francisco. It is in a class all by itself. As soon as you enter this place, you are amazed by the ceiling, (cathedral), by the floor (all beautiful hardwood), and the decor....(a lot for the eye to see). There is a raised stage, a fully functioning kitchen. There were hors d'oeuvre served, very good, and desert tables (set up later). We were attending an annual function, and were greeted by a very friendly staff. The drinks were fabulous. This was a circus style theme that night, and it sure felt that way!. A lady on stilts, magician, clown on skates, face painter, and a rock band (all the songs I know) made the whole package awesome! The hospitality, I felt, was exceptional. All staff made you feel special. it was an experience i will be remembering fondly. This venue you need to keep an eye on, cause they throw one hell of a party. More...

We held a 250-person event at Broadway Studios, and everyone LOVED the venue. Seriously, I can't think of a better place to throw a big party in downtown SF. There were three bars all going at once, serving drinks left and right, while people were able to easily mingle with one another or sit down and relax.Francesca and Karl (the couple who run the place) helped out a lot, made sure people were having fun and that the party was running smoothly, and took lots of pictures. They also gave us a great deal on the rental (and even threw in free lighting, smoke machine, etc) because of a mutual friend. The only bad thing was that we weren't allowed to bring in our alcohol sponsor, as we'd gotten SUCH a good deal that they needed to make it back in alcohol. Everything worked out in the end, but our alcohol sponsor wasn't happy at all. Oh well. Here are my recommendations for throwing a successful party at Broadway Studios:- Rent at least 15 parking spaces ($15/space for the night) next to the venue to make things easier on your guests.- Have the first hour and a half of your party in the smaller room (with one bar), so guests can trickle in at the beginning of the night and it will look more full. Have a 2-hour playlist of good music to play on their sound system in this room.- Hire a good catering company to put out hors d'oeuvres in the smaller room. I recommend Joshua Charles Catering, they are FANTASTIC.- Open up the bigger room after enough people have arrived (say 100), and have guests migrate back and forth between the two spaces. People love this layout, and it's great for the energy of the party.- Put little snacks out on the tables in the bigger room. There's a ton of great stuff you can buy at Rainbow Grocery, but expect to spend between $0.50 - $0.75 per person in snacks.- Book a solid band who can play a half hour set on stage, then follow them with a DJ to play for the rest of the night (I recommend DJ Dave Tutton, the guy is a pro)Overall, great venue with a solid staff who will deliver for you when it's show time. This is a long overdue review from my experience holding a private event at Broadway Studios last year. The venue itself is beautiful. I organized an awards dinner/benefit concert in March of 2010 here. The stage and sound worked perfect for a full band, our organization's logo and a photo slide show were displayed on their huge drop down screen, tables were organized for the dinner and then quickly moved to make room for the dance party, and working with their sound team was easy. The catering was delicious and even with over 400 people at our event, it never ran out. It was also affordable. The venue is set up with a big main room and a smaller back room which is where we had food set up (there is also a bar here). The main front room has a huge dance floor with booths surrounding it, a full bar, and a mezzanine that also have booths (great for VIP's or event sponsors). Francesca is absolutely awesome to work with and her main goal is to make sure that you get to enjoy the event you're organizing - which is hard to do if you don't have a solid team to rely on. They can also set up a photo booth for your party - complete with awesome props  and the ability to print photos right their with you company logo on them. If you're looking to organize a private party, dinner or concert, go check out Broadway Studios. More...

How is it possible that I didn't know this place existed until Saturday? I have been born and raised in SF area and am a complete concert addict. When I walked over to Broadway, I had a feeling I would be seeing a concert while ladies danced for me. (Actually that sounds like an even better idea than just a typical concert hall) Broadway studios is fairly massive on the inside. It has a great set up- dining hall in the back, small tables lining the periphery of the club and a fairly decent sized stage. The acoustics were nice and whoever mixed the sound did a great job, having the music just loud enough to make us want to grab another drink and dance instead of plug our ears from the pain.I saw Anuhea (anuheajams.com) and The Green (myspace.com/thegreen808) and local band Sage (thebandsage.com) perform there, and was digging every minute of it. Only con: The bar is not huge, so the wait time to get a drink is fairly substantial. People hang out in front of the bar rather than letting you squeeze in and there were only a few bar tenders.Other than that, top notch. I will definitely be checking their concert schedule in the future and seeing if I can discover any new bands worthy of wandering back there for. And if the night proves to be a bit shy of debauchery, there are always the clubs that line Broadway. More...

Out of all the craziness in North Beach, Broadway Studios is thee place to go and have fun. The BEST security guys in the city. Broadway Studios is the hidden jewel of North Beach.  Ascending the staircase to the main event space, one leaves the commotion and neon lights behind.  Broadway Studios is a one-of-a-kind venue that poises the mind to imagine. The building and ballroom has been revived, revamped and has a unique and charming quality all its own since its recent renovations.   I continue to do business with Broadway Studios after 15 years experiencing professional service and mindful management. In the 90's, Broadway Studios offered their stage to showcase dance orchestras and swing bands.  Along with talented and enthusiastic Bay Area dancers, Broadway Studios established a popular weekly experience as we danced under vaulted ceilings.  The Club provided a back room to practice new steps, a kitchen to fuel the energy and cocktails to quench us.In 2004, I was the choreographer for the feature film SWING.  The producers locked in the perfect set to capture the essence of a grand dance hall.  The proprietors accommodated the producers and crew in assisting this indie project featuring headline principals and talented dancers of the Bay Area.   The opening scene in the film captures the energy and mystique of the Club's ballroom as the cameras peered down from their wrap around balcony.  When the gig is over, it's like leaving the set of a movie when you descend the staircase and re-enter San Francisco's unique North Beach personality. My company moved an annual party to Broadway Studios this year, and we couldn't have been happier with the move.  There was nothing wrong with the previous venues we'd used, but we'd outgrown them, and this location proved the perfect venue. Our party takes the form of a band-oriented, let-your-hair down event in the middle of an important trade show for our industry. So for us, we need the right size, someone to manage the guests, proper bar management, and a great stage - the band is an important part of the evening.Broadway has all that, and a great ambience to boot.More importantly, it has Francesca, one of the partners that owns the club.  Francesca is part mom, part grande-dame, and part cool-aunt who managed to make us feel at home and taken care of, but who ran a very tight ship in terms of her staff providing us with everything we needed. One of the important services she provided was managing the space according to the number of guests.  The venue has a knack for spacial management that makes the place seem full with 100 people, or many times that number. With perception sometimes being everything - in this case the perception that our party is *the* place to be during the trade show -  we appreciated that ability.Broadway Studios' only shortcoming is its location near North Beach - parking can be a pain. For our company party that proved a non-issue, as 95% of our guests were from out of town. Our 2009 event was the biggest one we've yet thrown, and we loved it.  I can't recommend it enough for similar events. I got to know Broadway Studios while wearing leg warmers, sipping a martini, and rocking out to random covers being played by a cooler than cool local band.GREAT SCOTT! Wait.  Scratch that.  REDACTION!I got to know Broadway Studios while dancing like it was 1989 a la 1999 and subsequently head butting an unsuspecting attendee while doing a flash-dance impersonation.  Said attendee survived said head butting. If you haven't figured it out, Max Headroom, this was an 80's party, and I got schooled in jazzercise while dancing to songs from the 70's.  Anything goes at Broadway Studios because it's a venue and you make it what you want it to be.This venue is all you need when you have a good group of people + an open bar with questionable cocktail concoctions + live music.  The result is as exciting as Elizabeth Shue being your babysitter. In other words, unless you are a sorry Biff who's only joy in life is to pick on Marty McFly. you're going to have a good time here. By the way Biff, watch out because my crystal ball tells me a big load of doo-doo is about to dump on your bad attitude.  Did I say a "crystal ball?"   I meant "my Delorian."To sum it up, even if I had a Delorian, and a flux capactor, I wouldn't change a single moment I had at Broadway Studios.  Afterall, I wouldn't want to cause a riff in the space time continuum, or undo a fortuitous headbutting. I am giving this place a 4 star for the lay out and the decor. I definitely love how this place looks. Attractive stage, nice balcony and the music sounds good in here.I watched a show here last friday, and it ROCKED! The bands were awesome. It was just a chill setting all around. I wish the crowd could have been a little more into the shows, but I do understand that this is out of the venue's hands. I had a good experience here. Definitely a Filipino owned establishment.  Way too many eclectic styles-typical of pinoy household decor.  Good acoustics, expansive stage area, and more booths than a convention hall lend to an exemplary live music experience.  The stifling upstairs balcony, average lighting, and off tempo thump of whatever club is downstairs detracts from an exemplary music experience.  Well drinks $7, fun barstaff, nice to see manongs working as barbacks. If you haven't been to the revitalized Broadway Studios, you're missing out on what might quite possibly be SF's best music venue!I'm a working musician, and while relatively new to SF I've seen and played quite a few rooms in the Bay Area since arriving, from Santa Rosa down to Sunnyvale.  But nothing quite compared to our experience at Broadway. As far as the room itself...it's amazing what the new owners have done with the place...fantastic stage with pro lighting, a wonderful ambiance that feels more like a concert hall than a club that holds around 400, and a sound system (with great engineers!) that's at least a full level above what you normally find in rooms this size.  Great sight-lines, a theater-style balcony, and a waiting room with a bar in the front too.  Classy, without feeling overly pretentious or stuffy. We had an absolutely fantastic show there, and our audience - fairly diverse, ranging from early 20s to mid-50s and both genders - had so many wonderful things to say about the room; almost unanimously saying it was their favorite room to see us in, and asking when we were going to play there again. I also found the owners and booking agent a pleasure to work with - very helpful, and what's more, we were paid fairly and promptly, which happens far less often than you might think...I'm glad to have gotten an opportunity to play there while they are still getting on their feet as a venue...I've heard horror stories about the old "On Broadway" and this is nothing like it...I have to imagine it's just a matter of time until promoters, bands, and audiences find out about this gem and the lines go around the block...I realize that this sounds overly ebullient, but I really can't say enough nice things, I'm still aglow and the show was a week ago... (Today is the first day of the rest of my life.)Several months ago, I made the hard decision of leaving my stable, well-paying finance job for the opportunity of developing something better. I traveled and dabbled in saving, but, more importantly, I grew as a person. As months progressed, my bank account dwindled, and I felt surprisingly naked uninsured. (An unaccountable shade proves somewhat unnerving.)A few moments before we left for load-in at Broadway Studios, I received a call from an exceptional company and was offered a dream position. The fear of stagnated funds dissipated, and life suddenly shined brilliant bright light upon the evening (read: I left my card open at the bar for the first time in three months). And so it was of no consequence that last night's events pushed well into the AMs of today, as a new day was appropriate for my circumstance. Broadway Studios served as venue for a sort of rebirth in my life. We played a strong, solid show (indication of how much we had grown in the past year), and left feeling infinitely empowered.  The spacious interior has a sort of positive energy that other venues lack. It's warm and inviting, yet still mysteriously subtle without being sinister, even whilst draped in intricate displays of Halloween decor. Aside from standard tables and chairs, the main floor offers several cozy, stage-front booths. Drink prices are typical for North Beach (they also offer a food menu). Two stairways lead upstairs, where one finds additional seating and the band dressing room (complete with refrigeration and shower). Best of all, there is secured parking right next to the place. But most impressively, Broadway boasts a professional team of players. Patrick, the director, was absolutely friendly from the very first moment we met until well past closing. Tim, the sound technician, took our requests with great consideration, and performed remarkably well given a faulty house sub. I told Ben, the emcee (I don't know why they have an emcee, though he's a cool dude), to completely fabricate our story for the introduction, rather than give boring, true-to-life descriptors - apparently, we now have a Disney Channel special pending... But let us not forget what perfects a great club: hot waitresses (and that merit goes to Ashley and Jess - ps, call me).And so everything turns full circle, and the great hope I embraced for so long proved worthy of correctness. I felt it on stage as I feel it in life: a sense of confidence, maturity and balance.  Today may very well be the best day of my life. Finally, I feel like a rock star, and it has nothing to do with a band... More...

My non-profit hosted a fundraising benefit at Broadway Studios which turned out to be the perfect venue for our event. I've been told they recently renovated and the event manager will work with you on budget.

Im giving this place 5 stars and there are several reasons why...This place used to be the ON Broadway back in the day and was ran by Dirk DirksenDownstairs were Velvet used to be they just had a name change was Mabahay Gardens or as some called it the Fab Mab...The Five star reasons:1st I used to come here back in the 80's my dad and stepmom worked with RRZ Productions Paul Rat to produce punk shows and this is how I became exposed to the wonderful world of punk rockMy stepmom would work the door she was always a little to nice and you could come out to here with all kinds of sob stories . Man I heard them all people would beg I thing the cover would be like 7-10 bucksand this girl comes to the door I only have 3 bucks my step mom told here to go outside and ask for more spare change. Not even 10 minutes later she comes back with this. You told me to ask you for spare change so I did and this guy said If I blow him he would give me the whole $7. I did when done he took allmy money and now I have nothing. With a story like that you know she let her in free.My dad used to do Security and take Photos he has some of the most amazing photograhs of Punk Bands from back in the day From the dead Kennedys , Gbh and Toy dolls just to name a few. GBH even stayed at my house while they were in SF can you imagine a whole punk band crashing all throughout your house.  I really liked Ross nice guy I even have photos hanging out with them in the yard while Im in my high school basketball uniform.Going to the On Broadway afforded me a way out of the house to wander Broadway and North Beach. My grandmother was strict so when my Dad picked me up I was going buck wild. I would bring one of my cousins and we would get paid to keep the balcony closed.I would sit there with a flash light Hey you can't be up here and thenI would have some hidden Beer and smoke my Joint without anyoneever knowing. Ahh the good old days Ha Ha. So all that get's 4 stars right but there is another star and another reason to give itFlash to the present :I took a class from Womens Iniative For self Employment by the way great program for women wanting to start there on buisnesswomensinitiative.org. They show you how to start your buisness from the ground up. I started my own construction companyhome.comcast.net/~robles…Anyways back to the final Star I went to the Mayors office for a conference and there was a Womens Iniative graduate and speaker. She was an older Filipino Lady who said she used to be a Janitorat the On Broadway and when she came to women's Iniative back in the day she had Barely  $20.00 to her name. She went through the program put up her old beat up car as collateral for a loan from Women's Iniative and Now she owns Broadway Studios Not to mention a Mercedes etc ..She transformedthis place back to it's former glory and it looks great inside. i went to broadway studios courtesy of some free tickets from yelp (thanks!). i wasn't expecting much when i showed up and already had the thought in my that this place was going to be like the Whiskey or the Troubadour down in LA... you know, no seating, having to stand for hours, one crowded ass bar, and too many people in one room. i was really surprised when i walked in to find plenty of seating, two decent sized bars, and access to the mezzanine! the place looked really great too with some good lighting and quirky decorations. i also was surprised at the sound system. i could actually hear what the lead singer was saying. always a bonus. all in all i really enjoyed my experience at broadway studios. -1 for the fact that they didnt have any food and i was completely starving. I didn't recognize the name "Broadway Studios", but when I walked in I knew right away what this place was all about. It used to be called Mabahay Gardens. DUH! If you're a Dead Kennedys fan, you know I'm talking about. It's a sweet ass venue. It has the decor right, the sound system is awesome - all in all a great place to see a show or throw a killer party. I don't know about the whole credit card BS... but that's their bad. Less business for them. As a guest though - I'm all in! More...
