Q&As

Generate Sales. Educate Customers.
A great web site does those two things. It will cause the customer to purchase your product or service or it will educate them about your product or service. Secondarily it will provide a way to share with friends/family that you love this product or service.

When a project begins there are some basic questions that need to be answered before any work is started.

1) What do you hope to accomplish with this project?
Is it to drive sales (new and/or repeat customers) or educate your customers about your product or service.

2) Who is your audience?
Define who you're targeting with this project. This question is extremely important for logo/identity projects as the finished logo creates your brand and will help define all marketing materials going forward. Knowing your audience or target demographic is equally important for web design projects so that the content and message is on point.

3) What is the budget?
It can be a tough question but a realistic budget creates the necessary financial boundaries so that all marketing avenues can be explored to produce the best solution for that cost.

4) Do you have content or support material for the project?
Any supplied logos, written copy, photographs, illustrations or videos can usually aid in a faster turnaround. Understanding what is available and what is needed can help both the client and designer create a realistic timeline to complete the project.

5) Web Site > Have you secured a domain name and hosting company for your web project?
This lets us know if we can create the development on server or if the development will need to happen on the client's server.

6) Web Site > Do you want to be able to manage the web site once it's created?
This simple question helps us determine if we can create a WordPress site (easy back administration) or if another development platform is available.

7) How will you determine the success of this project? Will it be determined by sales, some type of measurement tool (Google Analytics if a web site), customer feedback or a personal opinion.

Once the project begins I usually take a bit of time to digest the specifics of the project and the content provided. A review of the industry and competitors is always good so that I know what's been done creatively in that space. Regardless of the project I always sketch out ideas to give some basic direction for those creative concepts completed on the computer. I like to provide 3 creative options for the client to consider but sometime a smaller budget may be 1-2 options. I then work with the client in collaborative manner to change/edit and solidify the final design direction. Lastly it's finalizing a logo with supplied files or finishing out additional web site pages or marketing content in that approved design direction.

The deliverables of the project. The budget for the project. I need to know what content is available and when I can expect to receive it. Content could be reference material, logos, written copy, photographs, illustrations or videos.

I love design and my clients. There is no better feeling in business then designing and creating a great solution that produces tangible results for one of my clients.

I have a love of design and I truly enjoy interacting with people. I spent my first 11 years working at small advertising agencies where I was not only a key designer/art director but a critical business contact on a variety of accounts. I spent the last 14+ years running Brian Hock Design and have enjoyed every minute of it. I also have a passion for running and started Simple Hydration (my other business) in 2011. I launched the Simple Hydration Bottle for runners on Kickstarter.com and that business continues to grow and expand around the world. Having this small product business gives my design business a unique business perspective that many designers simply do not have. I can relate to same struggles and challenges that many new and established small businesses go through at various stages of growth.

Quality. Experience. Cost Effective.
A review of my work shows the quality of the design solutions that I've created for a variety of projects. I bring over 25 years of proven design and business experience to each project I take on. This means results that meet or exceed client expectations. Lastly, I have been able to establish many long-term clients because I deliver results-oriented solutions in a timely manner. Oh, and I love to work with my clients and they like working with me.
