TAC - Highland Park has the potential to be the arty cornerstone of the community, and I'm excited to see what their brand new Executive Director has to bring to the table. If he can continue to draw the crowds like tonight, I have no doubt that this beautiful venue will have much to share in its future. My son had a work of art featured tonight in their annual school District 112 art show. This particular art show showcases art made in the classroom by the kids, and certain pieces get hand picked by their teachers to be featured in the show. I always knew that this show existed, but I had no idea that the turnout would be as huge as it was during their reception. In truth it was almost too huge, as it was hard to view all the art up close and personal. But, what I loved seeing was the appreciation of art in the classroom and parents from all around the community coming out to support their budding artists. I've been to the art center many times, but over the years I just stopped going. Tonight was a great marketing opportunity for the Center and a great reminder to go back for another visit.Note: The artwork on the front lawn is always my favorite ;-) More...

We have taken quite a few classes at the Art Center since moving to Highland Park several years ago. Classes have been great. The teachers have been great. Great choice of classes including a very good selection for kids. There are also classes that parents can take together with their kids. Â The exhibitions and events are well done. Â The facility is lovely. The Art Center is a terrific resource for artists young and old, brand new or experienced. Check it out. More...

I've started taking classes here about 6 months ago. If you live in the area and want to delve into some art classes, this is a great place to start. The two instructors I had love what they do, and provide a great environment to learn and grow.I plan to take at least one class a "term" and just practice my craft with others. It's not an inexpensive proposition, but if you can afford the time and the cost of the courses, I recommend it.They currently have the Vivian Meier Photography exhibit on until mid-July. It is really a "must see". They did a wonderful job setting up the gallery. The exhibit is the caliber of something you would see downtown Chicago. If you live nearby, you need to see it!And afterwards, go to dinner at one of the nice places in HP. :-) More...

I registered my daughter for one of the kids' programs for her age, because the description of the class was exactly what I had been looking for in an art class for kids: promoting creativity, not just teaching the drawing techniques. Once my daughter entered the hallway, saw the exhibition, and got into the studio room, she already fell in love with this place. It is a drop-in class I can't comment on instructions, but from what she completed and her reaction, it is great for her!The one star off is for registration. Agree with the other viewer it wasn't much smooth: class got cancelled, a cancellation email was claimed to have been sent but never reached my mailbox (not even in filtered mail), while the payment receipt email did. The substitute class we then went was just great. The register staff said the fees were the same when i later found they were not. No response at all to my email regarding this. More...

I wish there were more reviews of this place. It's a very busy art center. I started to come here because I was interested in wheel-throwing with clay and am thrilled to find this location. The teacher is excellent, patient and gives great feedback and the art center offers plenty of classes during the week to accomodate schedules. The classes are long enough to give you ample time to finish many a project and to continue to work on projects from week to week. Also, the class size is not too great so you get one on one teaching which I find so helpful. More...

I love the art center..I love that it is here. I have never encountered the office staff, but did meet a board member once who seemed to think the place was for his own personal self and no one else mattered. ..didn't like that much. Also, once my class was cancelled due to a long-known about event at the center that was not on the official schedule. My instructor called me that day to inform me but mentioned I'd be receiving an e-mail from the office that never came. A little disorganized. But the center itself is good and they offer loads of classes. They get good instructors and class lengths are long enough to really get a feel for what you are learning. They also offer quick workshops, etc. I think this is a great place, overall. More...
