I really enjoy eating at Blind Box BBQ. What I have eaten here has always been good, and we have been for brunch previously. Father's Day brunch was a total mess and I hope that the issues that happened will be remedied for future visits.

1. There was no host/hostess at the station out front when we arrived so our party and several other parties were wondering what the deal was on sitting inside vs outside and where to go.
2. Since the new space has yet to be completed, the inside was only for people with reservations, so most people had to sit outside on the patio. This seemed to take many people by surprise.
3. There were plenty of tables available, some that still needed to be bused but it took about 15 minutes before they were cleared by the hostess, to try and get the waiting crowd down.
4. The server was very friendly and nice but looked to be rushing around. We all chose to order the buffet and half of our group got up to start getting food. At this point, the server comes back and tells the remaining people that since because it's Father's Day and there are additional food items, the prices are actually $25 not $21. Nowhere was this posted, the menus weren't updated, not even table-toppers. We can get "free beverages" if we would like.
5. When getting the food, all of the plates were gone. When new plates were brought out, they were using plates of all sizes, and maybe 6-10 at a time.
6. The food on the buffet was almost always out, people were just standing around the buffet, waiting for food to be brought out. Only about a third of the food dishes ever had any food in them, and there was only a few scoopfuls of food in them. There were only a few actual BBQ dishes, that patrons had to wait several minutes on because they were out.
7. There seemed to be no management on duty or going around talking with guests. The place was busy but not full. There were always empty tables. The servers were the only ones apologizing for the lack of food and dishes.

For a BBQ restaurant that does a regular brunch, you would think that you would be able to have and keep food and plates stocked and not have your prices raised for a terrible experience. Again, the food that we did get was tasty but nowhere near worth what we paid for.

Found this place by googling “bbq near me” while in the area. Staff was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. Service was fantastic. Food and drinks were well priced and tasty. My young children enjoyed items from the kids menu. High chairs and booster seats were clean, which is always a plus. Parking is not an issue. And their t shirts we purchased are super soft!!! Thanks for the great experience!

I just wrote a review and was cut off for it being too long. So all I'm going to say is... You've got to eat here!!! All our sides were awesome as were all the meats. Very tasty and tender. Our waiter Zach was very nice and helpful with recommendations and he even gave us a couple of beer cozies ???? We will be back very soon!!!

What a great selection of appetizers, meats, and drinks! They even have a Sunday brunch that is VERY reasonably priced. (I will be trying that next week.) The portions were perfectly sized and food was delicious. A seriously impressive place to meet and eat!

I live dowbdown and KC Joe's is one of my all time favorite BBQ joints. Blind box might of just won me over with the Notorious pig sandwich. The meat was cooked perfectly and the staff.. man let me tell you. Probably some of the most friendliest people i have ever met. As soon as I walked into the door I was greeted by a gentleman with a smile and was full of energy. I sat at the bar and the bartender was one of the best I ever dealt with. Highly recommend this place and highly recommend you try pendegrass gold whiskey. I am a big whiskey person and this place has one hell of a selection on whiskeys! I will be back for sure!

Amazing food, fun open atmosphere. We've been back for Sunday brunch, Friday night drinks and "normal" evening dinners out, and on each occasion they have exceeded expectations for a delicious meal and fantastic service. Can be slightly noisy due to the open atmosphere, but I've always bean able to have a good conversation with my friends, and it's never been prohibitively loud. Abundant portion sizes and delicious variety keep us coming back. Highly recommend!

Awesome awesome flavors! Seriously enjoyed the Notorious P.I.G sandwich. My family raved about everything on their plate! Very cool rustic interior design. Waiter was excellent . Service in general was spot on. Definitely coming back and recommend everyone to give them a try.

What a surprise! I've been living moments away from this place and never imagined that this place that looks so unassuming from the outside would have such a cool vibe inside or that the food would be so delicious! I'm bummed that I only discovered it a couple weeks before I move. All those missed opportunities!

From the outside, this looks like a plain, boring strip mall restaurant, but the inside has a feel of a cool place you'd find downtown with really cool lighting and a cozy, hip atmosphere. It looks like they might be putting up a new sign to better reflect what lies inside. It's hard to spot from the road, you've got to be looking for it, but it's so worth it!

The smoked chicken and burnt ends were delicious. The cheesy corn bake was absolutely awesome! They have a Sunday all you can eat brunch with lots of options including made to order omelets and waffles and fresh carved ham and many other items but I wasn't hungry enough to try that and just ordered off the menu. I did take advantage of the bottomless bloody Mary's which they make with Zing Zangs which is the best bloody Mary mix I've found. They also have their own delicious homemade Worcestershire sauce.

The bartender that waited on is was very attentive and engaging. Liked this place so much I went back a couple days later.

Starting off, the waiter didn't even give us water when we were sat, we had to ask for it. Secondly, when we got our water the cups were dirty and there was stuff floating all around... I asked for a recommendation on a cocktail and he said, "he's not 21" ... that's fine, but you can at least tell us to wait a minute and ask a bartender... OR you can go off the knowledge of what people usually order... thirdly, I got the burrito press... it wasn't bad, but it was small.. and came on a huge plate, which made it look even smaller. My boyfriend and I shared the briskets and gravy.. AWFUL!! Brisket had no flavor and, there was barely any gravy and there was no flavor. My boyfriend and I were super excited because we are brunch enthusiasts, but I was highly disappointed. 1/10 I would not recommend

My husband and I love coming to Blind Box BBQ! We love getting an ice cold beer and splitting the BBQ wontons and nachos. This is a great family place and they have an awesome drink selection too!

My family and I were very disappointed with our meal. We ordered 3 beef brisket sandwiches and each sandwich was basically all fat. We could barely eat them.....and they cost $10 each! Talk about a rip-off. Plus, the sides that came with the sandwiches are pretty small. We’ve eaten blind box before and it has never been this bad. We will not be ordering any food from this place for awhile.

Mmmmmm the pork chop, they don’t have it on the regular menu but when it’s a special or for this week, Restaurant Week...no words, because I’m stuffing my beautiful face with a beautiful delicious pork chop! The drink special and amazing too, and it had flames so it was entertaining AF to watch them make. Have a great day and eat from Blind Box!

Gave this place a try on Saturday night after witnessing the refs beat my Cyclones in Manhattan. I was ready to drown my sorrows in smoked meat, and Blind Box did not disappoint. My girlfriend and I both got combos, hers with sausage and brisket, mine with spare ribs, burnt ends, and sausage. Everything was hot, fresh, and delicious! All of the meats were awesome and the sides were homemade and unique. Try the street corn! We live in Des Moines and get down to the KC area once in a while, and I've been to most of the "famous" BBQ joints. In my opinion, this one stands up to the best of them. And the value was great! Two drinks, an app, and two entrees that filled us to the gills for under $50!

For me, BBQ often comes down to the sauce. I feel their sauce is right up their with Q39 and Joe's Kansas City in terms of unique flavor and a little kick.

Parking is always easy, getting on and off Shawnee Mission Parkway may not be though : ) This is $$ (moderately priced) compared to other similar joints. Service is solid, middle of the road. You won't find the same experienced and professional service as say Jackstack...but you aren't paying those prices either.

The Carolina Q is my favorite, the pulled pork with onion straws and slaw. In terms of sides, try the smoked potato salad. Unfortunately, would not recommend the bourbon baked beans. Pretty flat.

Overall a solid 4 stars for value, service and variety.

Great find! Low key atmosphere, top notch service and a great meal! Sauce was phenomenal, burnt ends and brisket were some of the best I’ve had, and appreciated the variety of side choices-I went with the Mac n cheese and street corn and was not disappointed! I’m in town for work and will definitely say that the service set this place apart. Thanks to Jeff and Max for making me feel welcome!
