We celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary here tonight!  The service was fantastic!  The wine pours are generous!  We started with the pickled beet salad.  I am not a goat cheese fan, but this goat cheese was Fantastic!  I had the butternut squash ravioli and my husband had the sausage and mussel fettuccine.  Both were wonderful.  Finished with the creme brûlée.  Definitely a do over!!  Check this place out!! If you've ever been to, and love, Carson's in Grants Pass, OR then you will no doubt love the Black Trumpet Bistro (BTB) in Brookings, OR. The food here is simply terrific and the pricing is reasonable for finer dining. At this time they are only open for dinner and evenings...so don't expect to go here for lunch. They accept both reservations and walk-ins. The atmosphere is fun, relaxed and the decor is shabby-sheik with Italian-influences. This is our favorite restaurant in Brookings, OR. More...

My wife and I have been eating at the Trumpet ever since it opened and have never been disappointed with the super high quality food that they offer. One never knows what might be Special(s) of the Day or what varieties of homemade soups there will be.On this particular evening, we like to eat about 4:00 when it is not too crowded, we started off with the tomato bisque with goat cheese. I am always leery of goat cheese but this soup was fantastic! Then we proceeded to the escargot which is always one of our favorites, soak up the buttery sauce with their delicious bread. Something we had never tried before but was an excellent taste treat was the chili-lime prawns, recommended for a repeat another time. This was followed by the warm spinach salad which is always superb and last but not least was the fabulous homemade lasagna--another first time for us, also to be repeated! Very cheesy and yummy, attractively cooked and served in it own dish, very hot and bubbly...The full service bar pours excellent drinks and there is a very ample selection of beer. Also there is a quite extensive wine list.Needless to say, after this meal we opted out of dessert although there is a great dessert selection, tiramisu is always one of our favorites. The staff is always super friendly and accommodating, the chef loves to come to the tables and chat about the food and answer questions. We always try to go to Black Trumpet when out of town guests are visiting and our guests are always impressed with what they get! Just had a late lunch at Black Trumpet Bistro. It was amazing! My husband had the lasagna, and I had the chicken marsala. They did a great job making sure my meal did not have any dairy in it, and it was fabulous! If we lived here we would eat there all the time! Both of us would give the service and food five stars! Our new favorite place to eat, when visiting Brookings. I had the Chicken Caprese sandwich, which I loved, and would order again. My husband had the Maple Bacon Cheddar Angus Burger, which he enjoyed. Meals came with pasta salad which was tasty. My girls had grilled cheese. We all shared a slice of raspberry cheesecake, which was awesome. Great owners, which are personable, and really care about the food they serve. I wish they had a restaurant, in Central Oregon! Black Trumpet Bistro in Brookings Oregon was a wonderful experience for Toni and me. We were recommended by my sister in law in Medford. We started off with a wonderful Beet Salad and split an Entree of Fish Grilled Shrimp, tossed in fresh homemade fettuccini made on the premises. Pork belly bits were added as well as a final toss with fresh spinach. A fabulous experience with a a great red wine and creme bulee to cap a wonderful evening. More...

We ordered the lasagna and the beef stroganoff. Both were very good.  The noodles tasted like homemade. The beef stroganoff had fresh mushrooms,  a light to medium sauce and tender beef. The lasagna was served in a large ramekin.  It didn't have a lot of tomato sauce in it.  There was a huge amount of cheese along with noodles.  We had enough to take home for lunch the next day.  Make reservations or be prepared to wait 30 minutes or more.  They open at 11 in the summer. Went there last week with my two year old and we both looooved the food there. Their bread is the bomb and just everything in general was very good very high quality stuff. There was a male waiter that tended to my son and I a lot and was very playful with him which I really appreciated. However, there was another waitress there which was a whole other story. Asked her for a glass of water three times (keep in mind it was just myself my son and another two people at another table) and when she finally did bring it she had an attitude. Not really one to be knit picky about those things but it's also part of the ambiance and food tastes better when you have the right set up and feeling about a place. But anyways like I said food was great definitely suggest their portobello fettuccine and the chicken caprese was very good as well. More...

Just exactly how good can focaccia bread be?  It's hard to put words to it, but something like focaccia bread should be a nice side dish. At Black Trumpet Bistro, their homemade bread becomes an object of discussion. Their servers have personality and really do welcome you to this small, but friendly restaurant. Every entree we have ordered at this restaurant have been outstanding. Today, we had to bring half of our meals home, the serving size was very generous. Their House wine is as good as any prime label. Save your money and order the house wine. We will return. One minor drawback: parking can be a minor issue. We're all adults, we can deal with that. Our 2nd time here on our vacation to the Oregon coast. We had such a good time last time that we made a point of going again. Did not disappoint. Had the sirloin dinner , caprese salad , wife had fettuccine Alfredo which she loved the fresh noodles. Great desserts, had tiramisu and creme brûlée and both were well above average as that is my wife and I go to for dessert. I am so surprised find me gluten free did not have this gem of a spot already listed for Brookings Oregon. We went in and approached a woman asking about gluten-free options and letting her know I had celiac disease, and she said take a seat! We have plenty of options for you! She herself understands having food allergies and is gluten intolerant, so she put me at ease. Turns out, she was the co-owner along with her chef husband!? How perfect. I also have several other allergies what she told me yay or nay on the food options I was thinking of based on my allergies. Guess what? I ate a delicious dinner and did not get sick!!! Not only that, but they are genuinely good people. The food was fine dining quality. We ordered the duck breast with wild rice and fresh vegetable for me which was delicious, and my boyfriend who is not gluten intolerant had scallops with risotto and pork belly. I did not taste it because of my allergies, but it looked and smelled ridiculous. And by that, I mean awesome! By the way, they have a zucchini pasta substitute for the pasta dishes. If you are anywhere near Brookings Oregon and gluten intolerant or have celiac, do yourself a favor and don't look anywhere else. Just go there and tell them that Delphine and Paul sent to you!. Hands down the best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. It seems like everyone has a pulled pork sandwich on their menu. They all  smother it with crazy-sweet store bought barbecue sauce to disguise the flavorless meat. But not here. Their sauce was mustard based and not overwhelming. It was on a ciabatta bun that was grilled. It was flawless. I tried a piece of the pork without the sauce and it had great flavor. The salad that came with the sandwich was a perfect side. And they had Dr.Pepper and that always makes me happy. This is one of those places that I want to bring my wife to next time we're in Brookings together. Service was great too. So glad I came here. Small but impressive bistro with gourmet cuisine, friendly staff, an eager chef. Soft, fluffy, and delicious fresh bread. Hand-made fettuccini, crumbly Italian sausage, hand-torched crème bruleé. The best place to eat of the places we tried while in town for the week, my foodie opinion. The bread was definitely fresh, confirmed the next day when the leftovers were reheated and it was still delicious with the olive oil/balsamic dip. The Portobello Chicken pasta was tasty and also made good leftovers. The crème bruleé was good but my favorite is still from the Left Bank in San Jose. The tiramisu could have been frozen and freshly defrosted. I prefer my tiramisu a little more creamy, less watery. It's got to be made with a strong (even decaf) espresso and a high-quality rum. We were here for a Wedding Celebration. The restaraunt  is quaint and small, but our table for 20 was ready when we arrived. The drinks and appetizers came promptly. We ordered 5x2 appetizers and were not disappointed. The prawns were sweet, fresh and delicious. The clams and Mussels were savory and tasted of the sea. The Foccacia was fluffy and warm. Then the entrees. 8 year old Leland ordered the duck. Cooked to perfection, it was succulent and he ate it all. The pork shank was so tender it fell off the shank and the polenta and accompanying sauce were the things one dreams about at night. All entrees were enjoyed by everyone. Plates were passed and shared. And then dessert. OMG. The tiramisu was the best I have ever tasted. Ever. This meal was amazing. We had the sweetest waitress who was full of energy and so many great recommendations for meals! The starter bread was absolutely unbelievable, as well as the escargot and the tomato and mozzarella salad. Each dish was incredible and we took home leftovers (they even accommodate for gluten-free or low-carb with zucchini noodles!). :) So. Good. More...

We had a great dinner at Black Trumpet with good service.  Started with the chili lime prawns which were excellent and had nice, but not too spicy.  The cucumber sauce on the prawns was good in and of itself, but the flavor was a little unexpected at first.  The fresh bread was more of a cross between rolls and bread and was steaming hot - could have filled up on that alone!  It went very well with the olive oil and balsamic.  I had the delicious pork belly sliders with a side green salad - excellent across the board and nice hunks of pork with a tasty sauce. Ended up taking one home (perfect for lunch the next day).  My mate had the chicken marsala which was also amazing - the side of carrots did not sound appealing but can honestly say we would eat carrots a lot more often if they tasted like this - they were perfectly grilled!  We ended by sharing a creme brulee, which was a great way to finish the meal.  Owner Rob came by to check on us a couple of times.  Too bad we don't live here as the Black Trumpet would definitely be on our regular dining list. We just finished a long trip that had us eating out in Marsing, Idaho, Spokane, Washington, Portland, Oregon, Brookings, Oregon, and Fort Bragg, California, and this was, by far, the best dinner that we had on the trip.It started on a positive note when my wife tried to make the reservation under my name and the guy on the phone, who turns out to be the husband half of the ownership team, gives her some friendly grief.  He lets her know that she doesn't sound like a male.  They have some laughs and all is good.We show up, and the room is small and nicely appointed.  We are provided with some bread, olive oil and balsamic, and we immediately decide to have the escargot (although they've got some other fancy name here, nonetheless they were nails cooked in garlic butter and how can that be wrong).  We then decide that, as usual, we'd share a couple of entrees, and we'd share a bottle of wine, a Seghisio Zinfandel. We choose the braised pork shank and the pasta dish with shrimp.  Both dishes look great and have great flavor.  We are very happy, as eating good food prepared and presented well always makes me happy. The server ends up being the guy that my wife talked to on the phone, and he had a great personality.  We got to learn about his journey to the kitchen and his history of cooking, beginning with a high school program that got him interested and motivated.  As it turns out the restaurant had just celebrated their five year anniversary. If you find yourself in Brookings and you want a great meal, this should definitely be a consideration for you. Nice small, quiet, place, playing excellent jazzy music right on Chetco Ave. next to the theatre. This place is pretty "schwanky," but they let me in dressed casually anyway. Service is good,    ! No, excellent! The moment I was finished with a dish, they whisked it away. When it's obvious, no need to ask (as some servers in other places do).My dinner was as follows: (which happened to be the special for the day) Appetizer: Alfredo flatbread with roasted tomatoes, artichokes, and great sausage! Entree: oven roasted duck breast with champagne risotto with peas & garlic and "dots" of papaya purée on the plate. Dessert: a flourless chocolate torte with a caramel center (the caramel was soft and pliant, not hard and chewy) and a very small amount of Himalayan salt on top. She added a raspberry drizzle on the plate. Yummy!!! To die for! If you like chocolate, this is the dessert for you!Now this is the way a business should be run: with a small town, personal feel. I had a gift card my mom had given me because she wasn't going to be able to use it. Anyway, it came around that my darling server had heard about my mom having a stroke. (I was on the phone and no one else was there at that time, so I'm pretty sure she overheard me.) Of course, she said how sorry she was , the usual empathy folks give you, BUT, when I got the check, here's the note I got with it (photo will be posted)."We are sorry about your mom, you always have friends here at the Bistro! Our thoughts are with you! Airel @ BTBP.S. We took care of your entreé" It had a simple smiley next to that, which I can't duplicate. I can't even begin to say how touched I was! For a complete stranger in a food business/restaurant to do something like that just made me feel like home. I know why my mom doesn't want to leave Brookings!!! For the area, I think the Black Trumpet Bistro is a great contribution to the local community on the culinary side.  The Black Trumpet offers a solid menu, with a variety of options that will likely cater towards most palates.  We started with a couple appetizers (shrimp with a Remoulade type sauce, similar to an aioli/tartar sauce combination, and the artichoke/crostini plate.  Both appetizers had a great flavor but were not extremely plentiful.  I think these particular appetizers are more suited for individual order versus sharing.  For our Entrees, we ordered the Ribeye, the Mac n Cheese, and several pasta dishes.  The Ribeye was prepared as requested, served with an appropriate amount of mashed potatoes and broccolini.  The blue cheese crust on top of it was a solid compliment, but not overbearing.  The pasta dishes were prepared well, and even offered zucchini noodles in place of pasta if you're watching your carb/gluten intake.  The Mac n Cheese had a good flavor but was severely lacking in quantity and richness in regards to the cheesiness factor.  The noodles however were prepared perfectly al dente. The decor of the restaurant is covered with trendy art and a personal vibe.  Its not a huge restaurant (which adds to the small-town charm), but it will definitely require a reservation if you're planning on hitting it on the weekend. EAT HERE! Oh my god in this sad little town you are elevated  when you walk in this restaurant.  We first walked into a bar restaurant a couple of doors down and promptly ran out when we realised every one was shouting! Where do I start well the waiter  I didn't get his name sadly, but he was from Scottsdale, note to him (if you love the ocean you can get work in the fabulous ocean village of Tofino on Vancouver Island ) was so helpful we started with the fabulous Chantini a house pickled mushroom martini. OMG if you like dill you will LOVE this Martini. His knowledge of the food was great only working here a couple of weeks. I had  a pasta dish with  spinach fresh tomatoes with  the local sausage it was sumptuous. I forgot to mention for $2 more you best be ordering the soup or salad. Fantastic, cozy little restaurant! We are camping nearby and wanted to have a nice hot dinner. This place was the perfect spot. My husband ordered the slow roasted pork with polenta and braised kale- mouthwatering good and falling off the bone. The meal was very heavy and rich as the polenta was cheesy and braised kale a bit oily, but flavors were spot on, if not a little too rich for our tastes. I had the butternut ravioli with Cremini mushrooms and garlic... Wow this was amazing! Garlic was a bit heavy so I would only recommend if you LOVE garlic. Would definitely return again if we are ever passing by. Great service, atmosphere and food!! More...

My hubby and I had pork belly sliders (2 per order) and they were super yummy. Thick slices of pork belly with chipotle sauce on delicious buns. $11 (2016)!  We also split a lamb burger with feta on a focaccia roll. We both agreed it was delish---it had a strong gyro flavor.  Both came with a simple green salad side with a tasty dressing. We recommend the green salad over the optional macaroni side salad (which we had as well). Service was good but could of been a little more responsive. Also, I ordered a hard cider and it came in a glass full of ice. I've never been served or expected hard cider served over ice. I asked for less ice and more cider and my waitress promptly addressed this issue. This is a fairly nice sit down bistro with a warm atmosphere and some cool art. Overall, an enjoyable lunch. Bread was very tasty and matched perfectly with the very high quality olive oil and vinegar!! Just with it was a little warmer. Staff was very friendly and attentive. The crayons to draw on the table cloth for the kids was a nice touch. The art on the wall added significantly to the ambiance. Wish the music was different. Heard the meatballs were made in house and very good. On the docket to try next time. Caprece salad was very filling. House salad was extremely balanced and tasty. Had hints of a Caesar without the heaviness.Butternut squash ravioli - 4. 25-4.5/5 very rich, creamy, complex flavors! Worth trying, for sure! Chocolate flourless torte - FABULOUS! DIVINE! Both words come to mind immediately. The sea salt is the perfect addition to this heavenly dessert. Can't think of much of a better taste to top off such a great dinner! If I'm in town again, I'll be back! 4.5/5 More...

Excellent choice for our one dinner on an overnight stay in Brookings! Top notch, very personable service without being overly attentive. Cocktail and wine list were great. The Windy Bay pinot noir was excellent. Their bread is awesome! Fresh, hot and deliciously savory. We had to stop ourselves so we'd be able to enjoy our entrees! The prawn pomadoro and carciofi chicken were wonderful-the pasta with those dishes was done perfectly. Very enjoyable and highly recommended! More...

My husband and I were visiting the town of Brookings and this restaurant came highly recommended by the hotel people we were staying at.  Yelp peeps also gave it a great rating. We were so pleasantly surprised that this place lived up to the hype. The clam appetizer was the best clam dish I have ever tasted and I had to have all of the broth that it came in, too.  Along with the garlic bread. We loved the generous portions and such reasonable prices.I hardly write reviews but had to do it for this restaurant.  And I don't think we have ever given 5 stars out of 5 stars.  Highly recommended place.  AND, they work as a team and so we were really well serviced!  Hard to come by these days. We've only really ordered pasta here, but we do because it's consistently good. We've had the baked Mac & Cheese twice and really, it's excellent; one of the best we've had and we order this from about every menu we see it on.I've had the fettuccine alfredo and the lasagna al inforno. The fettuccine is supposedly house-made but I couldn't really detect that in taste; it seemed indistinguishable from standard dried semolina varieties. Sauce was good, though. Not too thick and soupy. The added sausage was pretty good. The lasagna... delicious. Piping hot in the individual baking dish and perfectly layered.A surprisingly delightful cocktail menu, though. Try the Rosy Cooler (reminds me of a dreamsicle with different citrus) and the Black Cherry Bloom, in particular. More...

Black Trumpet bakes its own bread and two of their pastas.  The bread and pasta are fresh and delicious.  The cioppino was served hot with fresh mussels, plump shrimp, scallops and Oregon clams in a rich tomato sauce that included fresh onions and small carrot pieces.  The ravioli filled with butternut squash was served in a sauce of mushrooms, fresh garlic cloves and chopped nuts.  The coffee was hot and the Chianti was dry, smooth and full-bodied. The chef trained in Providence, Rhode Island and learned a great deal about Italian cooking from his Italian stepmother.  The atmosphere is clean, pleasant and intimate and the servers are professional. My wife and I were so lucky that we got a flat tire while driving south on the 101. Reason being, we got to eat lunch at the Black Trumpet. We ordered the beet salad, with the dressing on the side, and the meatball sandwich. Meal served fresh and home made, a Dogfish IPA and an Oregon Pinot Gris later, we were in heaven. The meatballs were tender and oh so flavorful, the bread soft and tasty, the marinara so tangy and the mozzarella like melted butter. Dip your sandwich in the balsamic vinaigrette of the salad, or their rosemary and roasted garlic olive oil, and you're gonna never want to leave. We finished lunch before our car was ready, and I seriously debated not showing up for our Redwoods campsite just to have dinner there, too. You should eat and drink at the Black Trumpet. The best kept secret in Brookings and surrounding area. Absolutely the best meal we have had in years. No, change that, the best meal ever and i am a fan of food. We started our journey waiting for a table at the neighboring pub that was rude, loud, and couldnt care we were around. Yelp directed here and we have been groaning wonderfully since the bread entered the scene. Fresh and warm rosemary bread soaked up the oil and balsamic. Husband had the scallops and risotto, friend had prawns swimming in a delicious buttery garlic sauce while i had buttery lettuce salad with chicken. I honestly cant believe what a fantastic meal it was... oh and we had the most tender and sweetest meatballs too. Heaven. I now will roll out of here. I will be back. We will be back. I'm a little sad that my work doesn't bring me to Brookings more often after finding this gem. We came here on a recommendation and glad we stopped in. Let's just say the food and service is so good, we drove 123 miles the next day to have dinner here but there's more to that story later...Over the two days, we had:Hot Italian sandwich-salami, pepperoni, provolone and olive tapenade on a baguettePork belly sliders-wow, chipotle mayo. Meatball sub sandwich-house made meatballsLamb burger- goat cheese, caramelized onionsCaprese salad Creme brûlée TiramisuAll amazing! But, it wasn't just the fantastic food that will keep me coming back. Here's the deal, the service is phenomenal. I left my wallet on the table and drove back to Medford. Anyone who has taken that drive knows that there is a lack of cell service. By the time I got back to Medford, those wonderful ladies somehow found me on Facebook and messaged me that my wallet was found and they were keeping it safe. Imagine my relief when I found that out. For them to take the additional step to locate me was above and beyond. We happily came back the next day. The food and the service is what makes Black Trumpet really one of a kind. SHE WAS ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY CORRECT. My husband had to close his eyes he enjoyed the sliders so much... Honestly, I almost got jealous. Lol. I had the chicken caprese Sammy... Delish! Pesto, tomato, cheese, amazing chicken.. And the softest buns I've bit into in a LONG time! My husband also had the rustic sausage Sammy... I got a bite of it... But that was all... Tonight we had another great meal at Black Trumpet Bistro. We started with two appetizers; Steamed Clams and a Mushroom Remoulade over Ricotta on slices of crisp crostini. Both were excellent, but the clam's garlicky, wine broth was especially flavorful. It was accompanied by toasted bread, great for sopping up the leftovers.  Continuing with a seafood theme, we chose the evening's pasta special, a seafood pasta featuring prawns, scallops, and calamari in a light cream sauce with dill and capers over homemade fettuccini.  It was delicious and the unoaked Chardonnay we selected complemented it perfectly.  As usual, service was friendly, prompt and attentive.  We'll definitely be back. We rolled into town at 5pm on a Sunday night and after checking into our hotel we went looking for food.  If you are into burgers/fried food this town is your place. It wasn't ours. Our first choice was closed (really?  On a Sunday?).  Just a block down the street was Black Trumpet Bistro.  It shares an entrance with a brewpub but the front end is a very nice dinner house. Its described as Italian but fresh and high quality with an Italian touch would be a better listing.  My wife had the Chicken Marsala, the house's signature dish I found out, and I had the (I can't recall the title) chicken with marinated artichoke hearts/capers/pasta.  Once I saw the Chicken Marsala I immediately regretted my choice.  It looked awesome!  Nonetheless, mine was just excellent and paired with an Oregon Pinot Gris.  Both of our dinners were the best meals we had in a week of traveling.  My only complaint, and it is my problem, was the lack of a salmon dish.  The area is salmon country and there isn't a decent seafood restaurant to be found.  But that's it.The staff was friendly, outgoing, competent.  The owner Rob came out and engaged the customers in true conversation. Eat with confidence. . More...

We dine here whenever we can as the food and the service are outstanding. Most of the restaurants in this town we compare to other restaurants in this town. That doesn't work with this restaurant. To find a comparable dining experience, you would need to look to San Francisco, Boston, New York or Paris. But wait, sure those places have good food if you want to spend a chunk of money and be bustled in and out with the other nameless lemmings that get shoveled through the mill - if you're lucky enough to get a reservation. What if you could have the same (or rather a better) culinary experience and be treated as the individual you are? What if the staff knew your name and your story by the end of your meal? What if their excitement about you choosing their restaurant was sincere and heartfelt? What if you were served by someone who actually waited for your answer after asking if "everything is OK"? Better yet, what if you could find a place where they made sure it was OK before delivering it to your table. We have some pretty good restaurants on this stretch of coast. We have one great one. This is it. You can spend a lot more and get a lot less elsewhere. 5-star quality, 5-star service and 5-star value! More...

We enjoyed our wedding anniversary dinner here in April. The dining room is small, and there was a casual feel about the place. The diners ranged from single folks to families with children and all were made to feel welcome and valued. We really enjoyed ourselves. The food was very good, and a good value. The house-made bread with olive oil and balsamic was very light and tender. We each had a house salad, consisting of very fresh greens with a light Italian dressing and parmesan cheese. Not overdressed, and very tasty. My husband had jambalaya, which was well prepared. I had the chicken marsala and found it very good. The portions are generous, too. The desserts looked tempting, but we were too full to try them. The atmosphere is friendly, the staff is attentive, and the prices are more than reasonable. Wow, this is a good meal no matter where you live or where it is being served. At first glance, this is a postage stamp of a place. However, if you are lucky like we were, there will be a table for you outside. There are at least 20 varieties of wine (sorry, no Franzia) for you to choose from. Both of my selections were great. The table ordered the warm spinach salad, with chicken, which was reported to be delicious. In addition, the lasagna was saucy and special, along with her side of red bean soup. My mac and cheese, which is anything but the one that comes from the box was EXCELLENT. Start it with a salad like I did, and you can't go wrong. This is a good meal. There is some real talent in that kitchen. Even so, there were just two minor complaints. First, the plate served with the break before the meal was too small, especially given the hunk of bread that is served. Last, there were perhaps too many visits from the wait staff, but this was always overcome by friendliness and attention to detail. Now stop reading and go! More...

While visiting Brookings we decided to give them a try, we enjoyed our dinner so much we ended up going back the second night of our stay for another amazing dinner. The food is fresh with wonderful flavors and presentation. The service was excellent.  Hopefully the chef starts catching steelhead to add to his specials! Can't wait to get back to Brookings. We had a great birthday dinner here. I had the warm spinach salad with chicken. It was the perfect size and delicious. My husband had the special of cod over wasabi mashed potatoes with a side of garlic(very garlic) squash. He cleaned his plate. The dessert menu was limited so we decided to pass. My only complaint is that the seating seemed a bit tight. I felt like I needed to stay squished up to the table in order to not hit the person behind me. We will definitely by back. More...

I was driving through on my way to San Diego and stopped for dinner. I chose this place based on Yelp reviews and was sure glad I did. It is owned and run by a very personable couple, and is a low key sort of place, but nice. I sat at the bar to eat and chatted them up. The Chicken Marsala was excellent! Rarely do restaurants get this dish just right, and their version was juicy, savory and had the right amount of Marsala and mushrooms. The bread was also very noteworthy. I don't know how the chef owner has time to make it in addition to everything else, but I over ate my share there too. I had a nice glass of wine and some good cheesecake afterwards too. Prices were reasonable. Try it out! More...

Love it! Wait staff was friendly and attentive.  Many gluten free options and they were willing to be creative and substitute polenta for the pasta if we want it. I had the Cobb salad with a wonderful vinaigrette dressing and my husband had the eggplant marinara with polenta.  This has become a new favorite. More...

My wife and I both enjoyed our meal.  We both had the salad.  Great dressing: not overpowering, but present in every bite.  My wife enjoyed the lasagna.  While I enjoyed the chicken Alfredo.  The Alfredo sauce reminded me more of Stroganoff, yet still absolutely delicious! We both had the long beach iced tea [as per the recommendation of our server] (similar to the long island iced tea, but with cranberry instead of the sweet/sour).  Very good!We will be returning again :) More...

Our family has had a place outside Brookings since before I was born and we are often there with our extended family. On those occasions, however, we tend to cook at the beach house and have hot dog roasts on the beach. This means not getting out to many local eating establishments. This trip, for a change, it was just myself and my wife and daughter and we like to go out.So when we were told Black Trumpet Bistro had been in business for two years we were blown away. We were glad we finally got to a place we were oblivious to before now.The owners were terrific and came out to check in with every table. The wife spent a good deal of time with us, advising us on what was especially fresh that day and what entrees would be good choices so we could get a variety of flavor profiles. We like to share, you see.Everything was terrific. We started with the Caprese Salad and the Warm Spinach Salad. Both fantastic. I especially liked how the spinach leaves were not overly wilted but just softened by the warm dressing. Yum!My daughter had the Spaghetti with meatballs, I had the Ratatouille Raviolli and my wife had the Chicken Marsala. All were delicious but we gave the top prize to the chicken. Incredible! It was made with a delicate mushroom with an amazing flavor. And the owners hunt the mushrooms themselves! It all started with another recommendation from the owner/wife...the Chantini Martini made with picketed chanterelle mushrooms. Sounds weird, right? It's a very unique, intriguing, and delicious cocktail. Like nothing I've tasted in martini glass before. Give it a shot! BTW, this would be a great place to bring a date OR the family. It's a romantic dining room and at the same time the folks running it are so friendly and engaged with the kid at our table and the ones next to ours. Maybe because they have a six year old son themselves. We understand he helps out during the lunch service. Cute! More...

Best meal I've had on the coast and a very good meal period. Wife had the soup of the day and lasagna and I had the house salad with my main being papadelle and escargot. How long has it been since you've seen escargot on a menu Staff was great and the owner came by three times to chat. With two glasses of wine and a beer bill was $52.00 a bargain.
