This is one of my new favorites. Looked for a restaurant close to Symphony Hall and was reluctant based on a few prior reviews. However, my experience was exceptional. The lobster and smoked clam risotto was outstanding (don't expect tons of lobster or creamy texture, but expect amazing and complex flavors and textures). Server recommended and let me sample a couple of wines, both of which paired very nicely. The bread is phenomenal. The caprese salad was not traditional and very uniquely prepared, but it was nothing less than extraordinary. Service was prompt, and the server was attentive, very kind, and always available. The prices were no different than comparable restaurants downtown. I'm definitely going back. More...
Everything was good but certainly overpriced. Service was pretty fantastic.
Great italian food, excellent service, great ambiance. Only downgraded slightly because kitchen closed at 9pm, which seems a bit early to me for a downtown restaurant. So long as you go early, you won't be disappointed! More...
Excellent pizza's (Eggplant and Fungi), delicious Burrata and Prosciutto, decadent Gnocchi, and very good Brussel Sprout's. Nice ambiance. Good service. Great location for evenings out downtown. More...
Overall a good experience! Food was nice and the waiter was really friendly. All the recommended dishes were excellent. My only complain is none of the secondi were available when we went. . so that was a bit disappointing. Food/drinks are on the pricier side but decent quality. More...
We had an early dinner here after a Sunday matinee at SD City Ballet. We usually come here on these occasions. At that time, the restaurant is not noisy (I don’t know how it gets later in the evening or on other nights). The food is good — the pizza dough is particularly good — and the service was very attentive and prompt. The interior is stylish in an “industrial chic” kind of way, and comfortable. Good vibe. We will return. More...
The stone fruit salad is a must!
What a wonderful evening! After we showed an interest, Chef Carlos hooked us up with some of the delicious pickles and fermentations he's been working on lately. The pizza was top notch and the service was too. We can't wait to come back. More...
Food and service was great. Definitely recommend!
The bread here is phenomenal
The food was amazing! Definitely recommend the meat and cheese board. The pasta was very yummy and the salad was fresh and enjoyable. I’m glad we were able to stop in and highly recommend a visit. More...
We enjoy the pizza and ambience at Biga. We eat there frequently.
The food was very special - not the standard run of the mill and very tasty.
First time at BIGA and enjoyed it. Our waiter was nice and attentive, and the food was delicious. Would definitely go back if I am in the neighborhood.
Great food and wine selection. Chicken Four Ways was delicious and all locally sourced specifically for their restaurant. Friendly staff . Large bar and open kitchen. Highly recommend. More...
Such delicious food, ambiance, and wine! I would recommend the gnocchi to anyone that goes.
Will be back the next time I’m in San Diego. Outstanding.
Our best meal during our 1st anniversary trip.
This restaurant has it all. The food is extraordinary
Such a fab place!!! Best food ever!!!
Excellent food that was flavorful and just a bit of a different take on traditional Italian meals. High quality food and service!
Good place. Great bread. Will be back to try lunch.
Some great food options in the gnocchi and wood fired pizza. However, we felt it was overpriced for the offering. Wine was inexpensive by the bottle, certainly a plus.
Far too long of a wait for our food and the portions were very small for the price. Waiter was very nice and checked on us several times and the wine was fabulous!
BIGA was one of the most wonderful dining experience my husband and I have ever had. The food, the service, the music, all of it, absolutely excellent! Our server, Brandon, was incredibly genuine and helped to make our evening so special. Also, possibly the best pizza I’ve ever eaten! More...
The food was great, but not the best I've ever had.The service was friendly, but didn't blow me away (the server didn't have much to offer when I asked for recommendations)The atmosphere was cool and clean, but not unique. The locally sourced ingredients is great, but it could have been presented more. I could have gone through the whole experience without even noticing this great selling point. The server could have done more to explain and describe the source of the ingredients. The value was fine. As with many "nicer" places you get pretty small portions, but to be fair, the pricing isn't exorbitant, so it's forgivable.Overall, yeah, I would tell someone to check it out if they were interested, but would not necessarily go out of my way to say "you gotta go!" Great food, nice people, very central downtown location
We had a delicious dinner at BIGA. Our server was very knowledgeable about each of the dishes - the menu was changing but our server was well versed on the way some of the dishes may be different. The arugula salad was light and perfectly dressed. I had the Carbonara with egg white "foam". This was a very delightful and unique version of carbonara The pasta was perfectly cooked and the dish was beautifully presented. More...
the best in town. we love the placeincredible pizza
Wonderful food. We had a party of 5 so we were able to taste many menu offerings. The risotto and pizzas were our favorites. We started with the bread sampler. Olive tapenade was just a delight for the senses. We tried the gelato for dessert. Salted caramel was heavenly. Can’t wait to go back to Biga. More...
Pre - Symphony bites and a free glass of wine. Outstanding service. A little warm ... perhaps a fan or higher AC.
Passion and pride in the food and wine that is served is plainly evident at Biga. Go there to enjoy Italian food par excellence.
Delicious, authentic Italian food. The pasta is so fresh, the pizzas are heavenly and the burrata - wow! I had the potato-crusted seabass which was also very good. It was my daughter's 20th birthday and they brought her a bananas flambe. It was very dramatic when they set it ablaze and our wonderful server sang "Happy Birthday!" Such a great dining experience! More...
Wonderful experience. The pizza dough is true Italian style, but pizza toppings have a unique twist that were deeeeelicious!
Food was really good, service was great. Pop machine was down, so we weren't able to get original drinks, but comped us for 1 drink.
We had an amazing dinner here. The antipasto salad was incredible . We took out waiter's advice and shared the parma and fig pizza. ..so good! We capped off the night with gelato from their gelato selection. Great food, great wine..will be back! More...
Interesting concept of restaurant combined with ‘store counters’ Excellent food prepared with expertise using fresh ingredients Service was a bit disorganized but staff is very friendly and overall it was a great experience Would definitely recommend
I absolutely loved my pasta! My husband said his pizza was “ok”. Great service. Nice ambience. Would go back.
Amazing food and service. The experience was phenomenal and I would highly recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and family.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent and would definitely return
The service was great, the food was good, but there is one thing the restaurant should definitely change: the bathroom is at the end of a dirty corridor with a bad smell and is not clean. We use to say that the toilets reflects the overall quality of the restaurant. It really requires attention. More...
Food was delicious and our server Brandon was AWESOME. Will definitely be back.
We go there frequently. The food is usually really good.
Incredibly fresh...the bolognese sauce was delicious and the dessert well worth saving room! The portions are just the right amount so don’t be afraid to order a pizza to share and a pasta dish...will definitely return.
Very good pizza's. They kitchen closed at 8 pm and that was pretty early and quick.
The fried chicken three ways was outstanding and a wonderful blend of flavors. The Gnocci and pizza are also very good
The pasta pomodoro and the mushroom gnocchi were delicious. The spiciness if the gnocchi was a nice touch and just enough.
A wide variety of innovative, carefully crafted Italian-inspired dishes including pizzas and pastas; the in-house charcuterie is not to be missed.
This is a wonderful place. Most of my party had pizzas which were fantastic. But I had the oxtail pasta which was out of this world. The Ferraro Rocher dessert was excellent but the plain chocolate gelato was honestly the best. Even better was the chocolate croissant for breakfast the next day: one of the best I’ve ever had. An incredible discovery. More...
Experience was okay. Food is average. Service was average. It’s more like a deli during the day and probably better for that experience then a date.
Lots of fascinating dishes you can't find elsewhere in San Diego. Roasted beets with bottarga (fish paste) was super delish. Very nice pasta too. They were out of the bread plate - even though bread is their specialty - and the dessert was good, not great. But we will happily come here again to try more things. More...
Yummy Italian, great service, especially pre-theater, bruscetta is amazing, pasta as well, fun salad combos, yummy for sure, our go downtown
Great food and service. Our waiter was friendly and gave fantastic recommendations for wine and dishes. We enjoyed the proscuitto, burrata and heritage bread board however one slice of crostini with the amount of proscuitto and burrata provided was stingy for sharing . We had to ask for more crositini but that was no problem. The Nduja All’Amatriciana was smoky, spicy deliciousness. The pizza, especially the crust, was also delish. Short rib papparadelle was fine too. Beet salad needed some brightness and a tad more salt. Overall a great dinner. More...
Enjoyable evening. Service was slower than average, and impersonal. Food was decent... Can't go wrong with the Pizza!!
We were a group of 10 on a moderately tight time schedule pre-concert. Got great service and help with sorting out our bill from the wait staff. The beer and wine selection features local brews and an interesting list of Italian wines from different regions. The valpolicella ordered was delicious. All entrees were well presented and judged very good or better by all. Biga also has excellent gelato and some unique desserts (check out the caramel apple!). More...
The food is authentic and
we've eaten here several times, always good. Absolutely the best gluten free pizza crust in town and with many creative toppings. They give theater and concert ticket holders a complimentary glass of wine, nice touch. More...
Pizzas are out of this world! The best thin crust we ever had, and toppings are fresh and delicious as well...Gelato was decent, but we'll go back to try other menu items soon, although prices seem a tad high for entrees.
Fantastic appetizers, salads, pizzas and desserts. Pasta entree was average. Ownership genuinely interested and involved with customers. Devoted a great deal of time explaining his approach to "farm-to-fork" cooking. Graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. We will definitely return and recommend to others. More...
Food looks amazing they should have had a menu other than restaurant week. Sometimes we need more options!
Although one of the 3 orders was incorrect when it came to the table and there was uncertainty and confusion over the discount advertised on a website, the owner came and introduced himself and made it right. Overall a pleasant dining experience and I would definitely return next time I'm downtown More...
We felt the presentations were excellent ... but the food only "good". Our brusselsprouts were to include mushrooms and did not. The carrot dish was lacking the greens "frisee" was explained away as "..they must have been out of it.". Overall, lacked an "edge".Would I go back? Yes. More...
Four of us had a great meal. As we entered the restaurant, the chef and owner were in the open kitchen and my husband asked what they were cooking. They said they were experiementing with a special for the following day, but they'd be happy to cook it for us if we were interested. Two of our group had it - meatballs with heirloom tomatoes and crosanti, and they loved it. The third member of our group enjoyed her pasta, and I was amazed to be served a gluten free pizza which was absolutely delicious - the crust was as close to a gluten version that I've come across in the 15 years since I was diagnosed with celiac (puffy and light rather than thin and heavy). In addition, they offer a free glass of wine or discount on a bottle for people with tickets to the San Diego Symphony which is only a few short blocks away. We'll be back! More...
Very ambitious and promising new place downtown. They have a very serious bread program. The basket is not free, but it was some of the best bread in town, with 4 or 5 different slices: olive, walnut, bacon, and a really delicious levain from a very old starter. Owner is friendly and circulates. Server's recommendation of a wine based on what I said my tastes were was not on the mark, so next time I would read the tasting notes myself and be happier. Also they said they could let me taste next time first (wines by the glass). But the food was quite good. We enjoyed the truffle pasta, the delicious cardamom carrots, and other dishes. Next time we need to try the desserts - they look spectacular. Very promising new place to have in San Diego. More...
This is my second time to Biga and it was another pleasant experience. We came early, just before dinner officially starts, so we did not try any of the dinner items. Next time! But, it was quiet and we snagged a great spot to people-watch. They do craft beers and sodas, and happy hour is a great deal, including $3 Margherita pizzas! Their Napoli pizza is super delish, the three meats complement each other very well, and the burrata is creamy and mild. We also tried the Burrata pizza and loved it even more. The cheeses mixed with the fresh herbs and prosciutto were delightful, but the drizzle of honey took it over the top. Outstanding! The Wild Arugula Salad was the best salad Mr. Kashurra had ever had. The tartness of the Meyer lemon vinaigrette worked very well with the sweet cranberries, crunchy almonds, and salty goat cheese. Of course, he might be biased because he's slightly obsessed with arugula, and anything with it is immediately in his sights. (Actually, I thought it was very good, but not the best I've eaten.)For dessert, he went with the dark chocolate honeycomb bombe, and found it fantastic. Honey sponge cake topped with honey mousse, dark chocolate, and housemade honeycomb bits. I was hoping to love this one, but the flavours were off for me, and did not care for it at all.I went with the St. Honore, and I'm glad I did. I would eat that 10x over. An almond cookie base i topped with a raspberry jam glaze, then three choux balls (unfilled) dunked in caramelized sugar are placed on top. I LOVE croquembouche, so these little crunchy puff balls were right up my alley. I also bought a shortbread cookie for the next day's tea break, and it was also delicious. Still crunchy without being stale, and a lovely buttery sweetness that paired perfectly with my Earl Grey.Service was efficient and non-intrusive. Everyone was pleasant and eager to chat about the menu and make suggestions. We'll definitely be back as there are so many things still to try! More...
Outstanding food, service,. Staff very attentive including owner. Highly recommend.
The food was excellent, but the service was spotty. I'll go again.
Surprised they required a credit card to hold the reservation. Don't see that ever.
The roasted beet salad was excellent and the pizza was good. Our server was attentive and efficient.
Like being in modern urban italy! Nice food concept. Very convenient location.
As always, Biga was amazing! We visited during restaurant week and one of our friends has Ceiliacs - the chef went out of his way to accommodate her and make sure she was able to experience a wonderful meal! The food, the atmosphere and most of all the staff was fantastic - we will be back soon! More...
Awesome new restaurant with nice meat plates to start, great Neapolitan pizzas and fantastic pastas (I had the short ribs pappardelle). Top it off with the warm donut holes and you have a fantastic dinner. More...
Great tasting food. The staff was pleasantly attending to our needs. Go on Saturday.... Porchetta was the BOMB! Going for that alone is worth it.
Another excellent meal at BIGA. This is our fifth time visiting and the food has been on par or better than any Italian in the city. Looking forward to going back soon. More...
What a gem! Fit for a foodie, but accessible and priced well. We loved the pizza, raviolo and tuna salad. Millefeuille was delectable for dessert! Definitely go to Biga.
Great pizza, very helpful service
I have been to Biga 4-5 times at this point. It is fantastic. The food is really exceptional. Pizza, bolognese, gelato, fresh buratta -- its all amazing. Ambiance is great. Price is on point. A must try. More...
BIGA was fantastic. Tried the meatball appetizer that was surprisingly outstanding. Next got the Napoli pizza and chose the fried option. It was delicious. In fact it made me come back a day later on the trip to try the Napoli in the normal fashion. It is a real testament to how using quality simple ingredients can distinguish a simple dish from the vast contenders. The only other thing that would add to the experience would be if they offered cocktails. Well done BIGA!!! More...
Been going here since it first opened ~6 months ago or so. Never had a bad meal! Authentic Neapolitan Pizza's & other wood fired dishes, along with their home made mozzarella & bread. Then there is the gelato & other deserts. Hard to beat what you get for the price! More...
