Our family loves Bhanu! Best Indian food in the area. The folks that run this place are wonderful and helpful. The layout is quirky and cool. .. It's half restaurant and half store, so after you eat a delicious meal...you can shop for interesting yummy food. More...

I was in Los Angeles for about two weeks and happened to grab a bite at Bhanu's on multiple occasions. I have been to couple of cuisine+grocery indian stores before in Texas and have always been disappointed. But Bhanu's was different.
I believe what a customer really wants in a restaurant is great service, excellent food, good ambience and clean bathrooms. Bhanu's indian cuisine and grocery fulfilled these requirements in almost all cases.
The restaurant section had good table/booth options to cater to couples as well as large groups. They also had TVs playing indian movies. The staff was very friendly and prompt with the service. I have to say, unlike other Indian restaurants, the restrooms were very clean!!!!
The fact that the restaurant is inside the store is cool but at the same time can be a little bothersome. A dedicated restaurant space would be better.
I'm a vegetarian and was thrilled to see plenty of vegetarian items on the menu ranging from north Indian to south Indian to indo-Chinese.
I really liked the Masala dosa and the chutney /Sambhar. On both my dine in visits, I ordered one and was happy with the consistency of the dosa.
For all north Indian vegetarian food lovers, I highly recommend trying the shahi paneer, dal makhani, dal tarka. They were simply superb! The dals(lentil soups) had real good flavor. Not too spicy, not that bland. Just perfect. I can eat their dal rice and even kadi rice all day.
I wasn't very pleased with the veg Manchurian.
But, their veg fried rice and paneer chilli were fantastic. It reminded me of the indo-chinese food I used to have in Mumbai, India.
I'm sure to dine in again the next time I'm around Los Angeles.

Great selection of dry and frozen foods! Vegetables are seasonal, so plan accordingly. Friendly and helpful staff -totally necessary when so many products have a dozen names in twice as many languages. Their samosas make me feel like I'm back in India. More...

The menu at Bhanu is somewhat closer to "Delhi and Bombay style" Indian cuisine than the "contemporary, Westernized, and Indian-fusion" that is common in the Pasadena area. This restaurant does not offer a buffet but serves several types of Punjabi-style thalis. That means the food is fresh, not days old. Non-vegetarian types include a choice of curry chicken, butter chicken, lamb curry, or tandoori chicken, and the vegetarian thali consists of two seasonal sabzi and one lentil.

Bhanu's menu is fairly basic and most of the a-la-carte options represent Punjabi cuisine, although I have heard that the owners had previously operated restaurants in Mumbai. You won't find anything exotic or regional vegetables, the menu consists mainly of familiar north-Indian curries, paneer, and tandoor items which are most commonly served in US Indian restaurants. It appears the most popular items at Bhanu are American and British favorites: chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and tandoori meats.

In terms of variety, unlike most local Indian restaurants, Bhanu extends its menu to include a few items from various regions of India. There are several types of South Indian dosas and idli (probably due to Mumbai's proximity to Udupi), a short list of Punjabi & Gujarati chaat (roadside snacks), and Indo-Chinese delicacies.

What I liked about Bhanu is their commitment to prepare fresh food. Dishes and plates appear to be cooked either individually or in very small batches only after they are ordered. I've had the masala dosa and vegetarian thali several times. The vegetables in the thali are fresh, and the curries do not seem to have much trace of chemical additives. The grease level is much lower than most Indian restaurants in the area. The masala dosa was made crispy on the tawa with spiced potato fillings. The included sambar was hot and spicy, definitely not watered down, and a tad bit sweet from the choice of vegetables.

If you like spicy food, you have to make the request or else the default spice level for the thali dishes is very very mild. You also have to request if you don't want additives to the bread, or else the naan or roti will come coated aggressively with ghee.

Food and service here is amazing. I’ve never been disappointed with anything I’ve eaten here, but particularly love their chaats and their non-veg thalis.

Love this place and would recommend to anyone. They also have a great selection of Indian groceries.

Quality food, for reasonable prices, with a very authentic menu. (well, I'm white, but it looks authentic to me since it's not ultra-"Americanized")

You can order a simple combo (I usually get the "1 meat, 2 veg, rice and naan" w/ chicken or goat), or order more piecemeal off the menu. Make sure to say if you like spicy food, they can pep it up several levels for you for no charge.

This place has Indian grocery and restaurant both. Lots of parking available in plaza . May be crowded during evening times. I am regular here for Indian grocery and vegetables. They have some really fresh indian vegetables. Also quite good arrangement of items on shelves . Lots
Items like Paratha and sweets which is good for bachelors.Staff is really friendly and they will take time for you to find stuff if you are not able to. This place also has good food especially "Thali" i.e lot of food for cheaper price. I love their keema pav (chicken with bread). But overall food is good and food service too.

Super delicious Indian curry! I ordered lamb combo with spicy sauce. In the combo meal, there are main dish curry with beans curry and yogurt, and the yogurt neutralizes the spicy taste of curry and brings out the nice flavour of curry.

Excellent food, fast service and friendly staff, the restaurant is wonderful for both dining in and take out. Since half of the business space is allotted to grocery items, the restaurant is very casual.

The menu is broad, including some Chinese dishes, but all of the dishes you'd expect in an Indian restaurant are available. The vegetable samosas are particularly good, as are the chutneys they provide with them.

Prices are average for Indian fare, with two people eating for about $40 (appetizer, 2 dishes, rice and naan) and you'll definitely have leftovers.

A great little Indian grocery store -- makes me nostalgic for India :) You can get just about anything you need for Indian cooking there, as well as an assortment of fresh sweets and chutneys (tip: get the chutneys and freeze them in little cubes. They are super delicious and they're great to have on hand!)

The grocery store is only half of the store - the other half is a little restaurant! Great for a low-key meal or even better for takeout.

The menu at Bhanu is somewhat closer to "Delhi and Bombay style" Indian cuisine than the "contemporary, Westernized, and Indian-fusion" that is common in the Pasadena area. This restaurant does not offer a buffet (maybe because the owners practice Sikhism and do not prefer wasted food) but serves several types of Punjabi-style thalis. That means the food is fresh, not days old. Non-vegetarian types include a choice of curry chicken, butter chicken, lamb curry, or tandoori chicken, and the vegetarian thali consists of two seasonal sabzi and one lentil. A thali is perfect for a solo diner or for people who prefer to have an individual platter rather than share full-sized entrees.

I highly doubt that Indian families eat these regularly at home, but they are considered staples of US Indian restaurant food.

In terms of variety, unlike most local Indian restaurants, Bhanu extends its menu to include a few items from various regions of India. There are several types of South Indian dosas and idli (probably due to Mumbai's proximity to Udupi), a short list of Punjabi & Gujarati chaat (roadside snacks), and Indo-Chinese delicacies (actually a misleading name because Indo-China represents territories of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos seized by the French in the late 1800s, while Indo-Chinese food is the fusion cuisine developed by Hakka Chinese living in India). Bhanu seems to only scratch the surface in representing regional Indian dishes as there aren't many options for entre

The vegetarian combo is only 8.99 and very generously portioned. The garlic basil naan really stood out.
The establishment has a restaurant on the left and a small but very thorough Indian market on the left.
On a side note, the restaurant closes at 9pm. However the market is open till 10pm so don't feel bad or rushed if you enter at or near near close and want to dine in.
