My sister and I are going to need to board our dogs again, my first time here was great.   Another time we had to board our dogs and my dog needed a grooming. There were hidden costs, the grooming was horrible and the last several times the staff is has not been friendly.  We have found another place to try that has 5 stars. More...

A while back I took my 3 month old German Shepherd to Benji's. It was for Memorial Day weekend and I wanted to have him boarded. I went to Benji's and the blonde lady sitting behind the counter gave me some paperwork to fill out. She asked about his shots and if he had one for Bordetella. I told her that he had all his shots and I did not know about the Bordetella shot. An older lady with dark brown hair came to the counter and asked what I needed. I told her I wanted to board my dog and was unaware of the Bordetella shot. She asked what shots he has had and I told her. He had 3 puppy booster shots. I also brought a copy of the records from the vet. She got really irrate with me and repeatedly asked if I cared about him and why he did not have all his shots. She said I needed to take better care of my puppy or should not have him. I explained that he had and I just honestly did not know about the Bordetella. I started feeling bad. I felt she was condescending and talking down to me as if I did not understand. So I just left and ended up keeping him for the weekend. I was so upset, I filed a complaint with the BBB and got no response or apology from Benji's. I highly recommend that YOU NOT bring your pet to this place. More...

If I could give this business zero Stars I would I've work with benjis for a month and yes dogs are taken care of but the place is more of a jail than a daycare that being said the owners dogs gets more yard time than any clients dog as they stay I've worked hard for this company for 5 weeks both running the back and cleaning the pool only to get fired after a double shift 4 mistakes that I've been correcting since I've started this place is Not What It Seems yes they are a lot of good employees but there's also toxic ones too do not come in I repeat if you love your dog

Friendly staff. Welcoming atmosphere. Lots of playtime for those looking for it. Relaxation for those seeking to relax. I highly recommend this lovely establishment to care for our four-legged family members/friends. Staff is attentative to each client's specific needs whether personal or medical. We hate being away from our animals but if we must, we choose Benji's Bed and Breakfast every time! Thank you for your great efforts! Keep up the great work! We will see you again real soon. More...

DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS. OWNER IS DISRESPECTFUL AND RUDE. I worked here for a few months and I was super excited to be working at a dog kennel. I was recently fired by the owner herself in a rude and disrespectful manner. I always did everything I was told and I even was doing more than my job required for the owner, i.e. reviewing negative complaints online. I thought all the negative complaints were b.s and were just angry clients or previous employees... After being fired a week ago, I can vouch for what everyone has said online about this business. It is all true and even more so behind the scenes is going on. The owner called me into her office and shut the door, shutting us both in. She was raising her voice and telling me I was a "habitual liar" and that I am "full of b.s.". She looked me in the eyes and told me "You need professional help, you need to go see a psychiatrist because you are a habitual liar." Y'all, I seriously have no idea what she is talking about. I bent over backwards for her business and I freaking loved my job. I recently started back college and was out sick for a week, but that is all. Think twice about sending your dogs there. She does not deserve that business and she needs God in her life. I have never, ever been so disrespected and talked down to before in my entire life. Her last comment... "Get the hell out of my office and don't you ever come back." Good. I will never come back and I will tell everyone I know NOT to come to your business. More...

Very upset! Charged for 3 nights prior and to give benadryl to keep calm. Only stayed 2 and picked up same time dropped off. I called every day sometimes 4 to 5 times a day. See I can't have children, so my two mini dachshunds are my children. When spoke to Management Friday she told me unable to give meds that they wouldn't allow. I told them previous in conversation and written instructions how to care for and gain their trust, and how to administer the 1/² pill into a spoonful of wet food. To give them a can of wet each in morning and a can of wet food at night. And to leave the dry out. Knowing my animals would probably not eat seeing they have never been in a situation like this nor a loud, wet , foul odor area. I laid down big thick brown blanket then their Orthopedic stuffed bed and then a towel over the bed and gave them their toys and a blanket to cover with, one of which Burrows under the covers no matter the Temp. I asked them to please place a fan and they said yes, bc I noticed and so did my spouse that the area they were being contained was not well ventilated and humid due to them just spraying the urine and fecal matter down the drain inside each kennel. See mine aren't socialized but with 2 other dogs and a cat. So I informed them to keep my female away from the other dogs bc she would attack. Speaking from experience. When I picked up. No fan, their food dry out but not fed but 4 cans of food when 8 should have been the correct number 2 dogs, 2 cans each, one at morn the other around 6 being only 3 oz cans. You do the math. I pretty sure I'm correct. Number being 8 if fed the two dachshunds their normal diet one in morn one for dinner at 4 cans a day for 2 days the number of can gone should have been 8. Only 4 were given. My dogs smelled like wet mildew when picked up. They slept so hard after groomed for almost 3 days due to being Physically drained. I will never allow my animals back at this facility. They are just now becoming more like their selves again. Not to mention the owner that's one evil witch for a lack of a better term. I didn't feel comfortable about leaving them. I left went got the rental car and returned to staff allowing me in back to see my babies to her stopping me before before I got to outside door, end their building and telling me no, I can't see them. I was emotionally distraught. I've never had to board my babies bit have that ever been in a place such as I speak of. Highly don't recommend this place. I'll get a pet sitter or take with me on my next procedure 75 and in my care sounds better than almost 300 and not taken care of the way they are accustom to. Shame on you Benji's! More...

Rude, only care about the money. Our poor Buster lost 40% of his body weight and they totally gave him his medicine incorrectly. He almost died from and if he had been there one more day he would have died. Lied to us about the cost of care and then did not care for him. Charged us for grooming services that were never performed. Owner and daughter should go to jail for their treatment of animals. Disgraceful! More...

After being hired by what I thought was a nice well put together doggie boarding facility with a family ran atmosphere, I was ecstatic to finally get my foot in the door to work in the field of animals I had looked for for so long. I found myself in a working man's nightmare. Upon my first day I dove into work excited and full of optimism, scrubbing kennels, rotating the appropriate dogs from their inside accommodations to the outside pens for their exercise, and spending part of my work day making sure their environment stayed free of droppings. After 5 hours of thoroughly scrubbing down and cleaning the facilities I was called in about how I was dropped off at work. I was then told it was their policy for employees to drive themselves to work. I was confused remember seeing that the application had only asked if the applicant had reliable transportation. I even went back and scoured the job postings and was there no mention of this as a listed requirement. Now I have spent weeks waiting on this company to fulfill it's obligation to pay for my days worth of work, calling them over and over about it and to no avail has it happened after being told my pay would be in the mail. I would give no stars if I could seeing as this company has no desire to work with integrity, honesty or respect for it's employees. If they are so cavalier about how they treat their employees one would only wonder how they treat their clients. More...

I'm a former employee. I've read all of the reviews posted and say some are not quite accurate. The policy of charging the client credit card up front was not the owner's idea, nor is it something the front desk would choose to do if offered a choice. It was implimented because there were times where clients didn't pay when picking up their pet and a few have even abandoned the pet there. As far as the actual care of the pets, most of the staff (front desk and kennel) LOVE the pets they are entrusted with and make sure they are cared for properly. Unfortunately, there have been a few employees that were there just to collect a paycheck and as a result of this there have been some negative consequences. The cleaning is adequate. The pets are kept in a comfortable environment and let out to play on a regular basis. The medicine is given when prescribed by the vet. Overall, it's an okay place to keep your pet for a few days. This place was recommended by a local inn manager. I called them in advance to say that my dog is not accustomed to being boarded, has anxiety and is recovering from ACL surgery. I wanted to make sure that she would get personalized treatment. They seemed very nice and helpful on the phone. I dropped my dog off for two nights. The front desk girl took down all my instructions (no running or jumping, leash walks only, one bone a day, etc.)Today, I picked her up. My daughter was handed her bed and the dog while I paid. The bed was soaked with urine. My dog was also wet and stunk. Her legs and chest were wet. I asked why. They were like she just walked through a puddle. Uh, no...I asked to see where she stayed. No one could tell me why my dog was covered in urine. They asked if we could come back in a hour so they could bathe her. We said no because we had a four hour drive. A woman said "I don't want to give her to you in this condition, so let me bathe her. " She  did so quickly while we waited. I did learn that they are closed from 7pm to 7am. That's too long for a small dog to go without being taken out. I still don't understand why no one noticed she was covered in pee and why no one cleaned her up or fixed the nasty living conditions. Worst ever place to board your pet. There are sick dogs there and customers are not told or given the chance to decide if they want to take a chance and board their dog with others that have worms. If you leave a tip for the back staff, the manager keeps it. No one in the back gets that tip. Some staff care but the manager and owner do not. It's a big cash register only. And breeding ground for the owner who runs a puppy mill. More...

We used Benji's to board our small dog Gracie for 4 days during our wedding weekend. She has high anxiety so we wanted the most private room possible. We made the reservation early in October for the presidential suite and was told we could have this suite for $40/night. A couple of days before drop-off I called to confirm and was told that this suite was now $100/night. We were having my father in law pick her up since we would be on our honeymoon. We prepaid so that he didn't have to. We prepaid for boarding and an exit bath - an extra $20. They told us check-out was at 12pm. My FIL arrived to pick her up at 11:35a. When he got her, her paws were stained yellow and she had dried poop stuck to her butt. When the staff was questioned about this, we were told that since we picked her up early they didn't have time to bathe her and they would have see what they could do about being refunded for the bath fee. Just how long was she standing in her own pee LITERALLY?!!! I'm not sure if the management has changed or what but we will not return. More...

BORDATELLA/KENNEL COUGH OUTBREAK!!!!!!  They do not tell customers about infectious disease outbreaks in the kennel. I'm amending my previous review to alert people of Serious health concerns. High prices and low quality service!! Don't care about customers or our animals.  They don't watch after animals they lose dogs from their property.  Manager? Evette is RUDE and condescending.  Our neighbor called and spoke with Evette A few days ago to let her know that their dog came home from Benji's with kennel cough. Evette's response was thank you for letting us know I'll look into it. It was obvious she did not care if. Our neighbor asked us to post this review for them. Then, At dinner last evening We told friends about it and they said "oh no our dog is there right now we just dropped him off this morning and they never mentioned anything about kennel cough". This is proof they do not tell customers. Because they don't care they just want their money upfront. BEWARE. Stay away for the health and safety of your pets!!!!! More...

Worked here for couple months. Things are not what people expect behind closed doors. The owner does not even value her clients enough to advise them of an ongoing rare worm out break in her facility. I sent my dog there for 11 nights while I was on vacation. I assumed it would not be too expensive, seeing it is in Pawleys Island (I live in Charlotte). When I picked her up, they told me about "hot spots" which they suspected was due to her getting in the water a lot and never being able to dry. Well these spots looked like gnarly scars, so we took her to the vet. She had a skin infections and had to be on antibiotics for 5 days. In addition, I paid $40 a night which is ABSURD. And I paid for her nails to be clipped, which they were not. I would NOT recommend Benji's, and it is way too expensive to end up sending your dog to the vet afterwards. More...

This place is a joke. I went in today to pick up my check which legally I'm allowed to. But no the owner threatened to call the cops on me so I don't upset the bird. I still did not get my check. Stay away from this place they use a d rip people off. They go through staff like crazy with in the 9 months I was working here 38-40 people have quit. They have a worm outbreak. They don't treat your fur babies like they should. They yell and scream at them slamming doors and bowls. Dogs coward down. There are no cameras in the kennel rooms only in yards. I hate to give a bad review, but this one is well merited. We took our dog here a couple years ago and had a decent experience. This year, we decided to board him again at Benji's while we were vacationing on Pawley's Island so we'd be close by. They charge $2 for each medication administered (we just put his meds in his kibble), and over the course of a week it really adds up. So we opted to just swing over and give it to him ourselves while we were out and about each day.We visited him after his first overnight stay and he had his poop crusted to his rear. I can't figure out why it was just left there or how it would get so mangled in his fur. I tried cleaning him up as best I could with some water and a paper towel before leaving and just let it go without complaining about it.Halfway through the week, they called my secondary backup emergency number (my father's cell), which was very alarming! I was terrified he had been mauled by another dog or something. Turned out that whoever was feeding him his pre-portioned baggies of dog food was giving him 2 bags a day rather than just one, as was specified and recorded when I dropped him off. We'd been really working on getting him to lose some weight and here he was being served double portions. It was "your dog is out of food...what should we do". Apparently they charge $5 a day for food. My husband was the one to pick him up so I'm not sure if they even attempted to request payment for that.On the morning of our departure, my husband went to pick up our dog. He got there first thing so we could get on the road as soon as I finished packing our things at the beach house. I usually clip my dog's nails and he was due for it, so I thought I'd make it a little easier on myself and just have them do it for $10. We were charged for the service but when I checked him not a single nail had been clipped. My husband said it was marked as done. Of course, we then had to take him back to get a refund on that charge. I had had enough and just wanted the refund by my husband, wanting to make things easier on me, allowed them to quickly take care of it. Unfortunately, they snipped at least 2 of his quicks. After the second bloody mess, my husband requested they stop and just refund the money for it.And finally, after we got home from our trip I immediately gave him a bath. As I was drying him, I noticed his skin on his inner rear thighs had a red rash of what looked like bug bites...they were raised bumps. I contacted my vet the next morning, who suspects it to be a staff infection and prescribed an antibiotic for 14 days to get it cleared up.So there you have it. Board at your own risk. :( More...

I wrote numerous reviews about this place on Yelp and they mysteriously got removed all 3 times I posted it and both times my brother posted it. So here you go... Hopefully Google lets bad reviews stay because this place deserves every bad review it gets.About two years ago I left my two dogs here while vacationing in pawleys. We left specific instructions on how to feed the dogs and that one had bowel problems and would get sick if any food was changed. We gave them our container of food (enough for a couple weeks in it although they were only there 3 days) we went to check on them every day. One seemed fine the other not so much. But we assumed he was just sad to not be with us. By the third day when we went to pick them up they both had very liquid foamy stool the second they walked out the door. So we went back in and asked when it started... They said they had tried feeding them the first night and they wouldn't eat the food.. So they watered down a different brand so they would eat... By the second day they both had upset stomachs... So they changed their food to a prescription food for intestinal health... And began to give them bismuth for their stomach... Keep in mind this was by the second day... We never heard a word about it... So they charged us for medication and food we specially told them not to give them... On top of that, one dog.. (The sad one with ibs) didn't get better after two days... Turns out he had picked up a parasite.... Oh and remember that container of food with 2 weeks worth of food in it? It was almost empty... And according to them they stopped giving it to our dogs after the first day... So I presume they fed everyone else's dogs with it and charged them for food that was ours... But I digress... After confronting the owner she got verbally violent at us and slammed my mothers car door on her as she was getting into her car!!! I mean this woman was a real piece of work... Not to mention she breeds dachshunds out of there as well... They were in makeshift enclosures all over the facility. This place is trash and the woman that owns it is a rude, violent, arrogant, condescending cherry on top of it all. All in all I felt like I had put my best friends through hell so I could have a couple days of fun... It ruined our trip and cost us over 500$ in bills... If there is anything good I can say about them... It's that they groomed the dogs the last day they were there and they looked nice and fluffy so at least they know how to wash dogs... I assume they had to learn after they kept giving them all diarrhea. More...

We have been boarding our Black Lab at Benji's for the past couple years. The price has always been $30 per day. Upon returning yesterday from an eight day vacation we were told that the price has gone up to $45 per day and we were handed a bill for $387.00. However, I just received a call today (she would be checking in on Monday) that they have decided to almost double the price from $30 a night to $50 a night effective Monday. Doesn't matter that I had a reservation prior to this change. This all came straight from the owner. I understand the changing economy and prices do rise. However, you just put me in a terrible situation having to find somewhere else for my dog to stay while I'm on vacation in peak season. I will NEVER recommend this place again, which is such a shame. They seem to have done a fine job, but they don't give a complimentary bath (with a week stay many places do) and they charged us for a day of daycare because on the last day we couldn't get them early enough (again, something many places comp.) The price exceeds the service. We have had our dogs groomed there twice. Both times they did an ok job, but as I stated above, the staff isn't welcoming. Also, when I picked up the dogs(a standard poodle and poodle mix) once the staff told me they didn't know which dog was which, so they just cut both their coats short. Our family rented a beach house in Myrtle that was not dog friendly, so we decided to board our 7 month old Bulldog at Benjis for the week. He had not  been away from us for more than a day, so we were naturally worried. Our hope was that he would play with dogs all week and ware himself out so he wouldn't miss us. One day in we decided to look for him on the yard cam and we saw him outside by himself. When we saw him outside AGAIN by himself, we called and asked why. The lady who answered told us he got aggressive in his play group and did a "stand off" with another dog. Our dog has never showed any aggression so I became worried. We visited the next day and spoke to the manager who told us that it was the other way around- the other dog didn't like how wiggly and happy he was and got aggressive towards him. I asked that they please put him with a big dog group because they would run fast and he would never catch them, but he would love it and tire himself out. Well a whole week went by and my dog was in solitary confinement the whole time. This place loves their locals and little dogs (they breed Dachshunds) but they did not seem concerned with my dog. He was literally crying when we picked him up, he had poop all over his butt, had gotten conjunctivitis in his eye, and his scrotum was peeling from sitting on hot pavement. Take your $250 and hire someone to watch your dog at home. More...

I've used Benji'sBed and Breakfast for day care and extended stay for two weeks. My dogs love it and I love they the way they are happy when I leave them. Its like when you take your kids to daycare if they like it they run for play ground thats what my pets do. I would referr anyone to them. The employees are very friendly and love my my dogs which means a lot to me. More...

I moved here six years ago and have used Benjis numerous times. They do EXCELLENT pet care. The reason they ask for all the shot information is to protect your pet and all the others. My husband and I do a lot of volunteer work for St Francis No Kill Animal Shelter in Georgetown and see first hand the results of what happens when animals do not get the medical care they need and deserve. Benji's just wants to make sure all the animals are safe. We are VERY picky where we leave our three pups while we travel. After years of traveling and boarding our pets this is the best place ever!!!!!!!!!! Benji's continues to win The Best Place To Board Your Pet year after year!!!!!!!!!1 More...
