I went to Marine for my City Hall wedding makeup and hair, and I couldn't recommend her more highly. She did a fabulous job in creating the aesthetic that I was hoping for, and the apparent effortlessness with which she did it speaks of tremendous skill and experience. I was instantly at ease as she checked in with me constantly as she worked, always ready to change any aspect to achieve a perfect result. On top of her calm and confidence-inspiring demeanour, her peaceful and well-lit residential studio is such a pleasant retreat from the stress and noise of a typical salon environment. I found Marine online and couldn't believe how reasonably priced she was, especially in San Francisco, where everything is inflated. I hear a lot of stories saying you get what you pay for, but if that really is the case, I should have come out looking like a clown. I've been doing my own makeup every day for 13 years now, and I have an odd-shaped/monolid Korean eyes, lots of freckles, and a very long face. Due to these features, I have a very particular way of doing my makeup in which I feel confident with. I was hesitant to use a makeup artist at all for my wedding, and simply do it myself. With lots of advice from family, friends, and watching Youtube bloggers, I decided to do a trial with a professional makeup artist, Marine. I was told by a lot of my family members to find a Korean makeup artist who can related to my features, but I decided to go the non-stereotypical route and choose someone based on their actual portfolio. Go with your instincts!  I had a trial session scheduled the same day as my engagement shoot with Marine, the owner, at her studio. Amazing! Not only is she so calming and delightful to be around, she really listens to the client. She wants to make sure you're comfortable in your own skin, so she asks how you like your makeup, what features you want highlighted, and continues to build on your preference. On my wedding day, I couldn't believe how beautiful she made me look, but more importantly, how beautiful she made me feel. After I was done, I was so confident and didn't worry at all about my makeup or hair because I kept receiving compliments all day. It was the best experience I've ever had getting my hair and makeup done. Important tip for all brides, communicate clearly what you want and how you like certain ways of doing makeup. This review is a very long time overdue, but I requested Marine to do my hair and makeup for a last minute City Hall ceremony. Marine was very accommodating with her schedule and willing to start the process pretty early to accommodate our scheduled ceremony time. I usually don't wear a lot of makeup, so I was nervous about looking cakey or heavy on my wedding day. Marine was so great about going light on the makeup but making sure that I still looked great for the pictures. I didn't feel overdone which was amazing! Most importantly, my husband said it didn't really even look like I was wearing makeup which is exactly what I wanted! Marine is so talented with the individual lashes; they looked and felt so real and made a world of a difference. She was very communicative over email and wanted to see pictures of my ideas and was willing to give me input when she felt the ideas could be improved upon. Marine was recommended to me for my wedding a few months ago by my aesthetician, Marion. I found it quite easy to work with Marine. We had a few back and forths via email, during which she asked for photos of me in my dress, the hairpiece I wanted to use, plus a few hairstyles I liked, to give her a good idea of my style and what might work for my wedding day. The only thing I know about my hair is that it always looks better when I just let an expert figure out what looks good for my face/hair type. I've been blessed with medium-thick, mostly-cooperative hair that I've washed and worn out the door forever. This meant I was both excited not to have to worry about my hair, and hoped not to spend a fortune on something I wouldn't appreciate as much as others would.So, I skipped a trial appointment and met Marine at her studio day-of (rather than spending extra for her to come onsite). I asked if I could bring one of my bridesmaids, and she was quite accommodating. The studio itself is a small office-sized room in her live/work apartment, but the three of us fit comfortably along with the lunch my bridesmaid (wisely) brought for us to share. You could probably squeeze a fourth person (2 besides you) if you had to, but that's about it.We talked for a few minutes about the photos (which she had queued up on her phone to reference) and agreed to just start playing around to see what worked. Marine and my bridesmaid clucked over which side to anchor things on and other details on which I didn't have strong opinions, and the playing around lead to something I was really quite pleased with. Once we figured out a style, Marine and I spent another 30 minutes or so refining the details and making sure the hair would stay put-- hairspray, LOTS of bobby pins, and jumping tests included! To top it off, she sent me with a baggie of backup bobby pins and a small bottle of hairspray. While everybody (me included) loved the hair, the unexpected consequence of the style was a low/side updo meant people hugging me bumped the bun a lot. Still, the fact that my hair was fully intact (though a little looser) 12 hours later when I went to bed-- after photos (in the rain), a wedding, dancing, so many hugs, and an afterparty-- speaks to her skill. I allowed 2 hours and expected to have to change into my dress there, but had plenty of time to return to base camp in my street clothes and change a little later. Marine was great to work with as my wedding hair/makeup artist from start to finish. She responded promptly with details and pricing and then all other communication was on point. I did do two trials because I personally wasn't sure I even liked what I had asked for/what my vision was after the first trial  - half up hair and my eyes were matte when really I did want a bit of shimmer. Questions she had asked but I wasn't sure on in retrospect.  After the first trial I had a better idea but was still just wanting to make sure I was happy and comfortable. She suggested after the second trial to do a bit more of a glam, down hairstyle which was actually exactly what I wanted - great intuition. My mother, who doesnt really like makeup absolutely LOVED Marine and Marine was seriously fantastic with her. My mom did a trial and she gave her tips on hair, make up as well. I knew I wanted someone with a bit more natural aesthetic to cover the mothers of bride/groom and both were comfortable and extremely pleased. Marine joined us at the Inn at the Presidio to do hair and makeup for all of us for my daughter's wedding at the Log Cabin and I was absolutely amazed with her work. It is one thing to make a bride look absolutely gorgeous, and a bunch of young bridesmaids look beautiful, but she actually made me, a 59 year old mother of the bride, feel like a princess and get comments that I was "stunning" and "beautiful", none of which I have ever heard in my life,. THANK YOU MARINE! You made me feel like a princess for the night!! She managed to make us all look our best, yet natural, not "made up" and every hair style was so creative and stayed in all day and night. I have had it done twice before at other places, it wasn't very comfortable experience, I usually couldn't stand them after a week, they either fell out fast or going wrong directions and itching my eyes. Marine's eyelash extension made me feel like they are my own! They look super natural, I have had them for a week, I love them every day! I honestly wish I could give 10 stars.  I booked the 'pin up' lash extension service in hopes to get lashes that look feminine but not overboard, and not have to wear mascara every day.  I've had lash extensions 2 other times from two different places and absolutely hated both sets.  As I walked up to my appointment, I thought to myself "If I don't like them this time, I'm never getting them again."  Well, third time was a charm.  I LOVE THEM!  She was so good with individualizing what I was looking for. She showed me lengths, styles, and measured the length of my longest lash.  Based on that, we decided together what would give me the look I want.  I opened my eyes at the end of my appointment and was unbelievably happy!  Now, I can wake up and walk out the door for my VERY early work shifts and feel like I still look someone put together.  If you want lash extensions, and had a bad experience before, definitely give her a shot. It is hard to put into words how wonderful Marine is.  I feel so fortunate that she did my hair and makeup for our wedding.  She was incredible throughout the entire process -- from the first hair and makeup trial, to a follow-up hair trial, to the actual day.  She is a true artist -- she'll listen carefully to what you're looking for, and then use her expertise to create something more fantastic than you could have imagined, based on who you are and what you want.  And she'll do it all with grace and sensitivity.  My time with her before the wedding and on the day of was so relaxing and fun.  And her results are amazing -- I was blown away by what she did with me -- very natural, yet gorgeous (if I may say so myself).  She's also the best lash technician I've ever encountered.  So, yes:  five PLUS stars. Marine and her assistant did the hair and make- up on my wedding day for 4 bridesmaids, mother of the bride and me (the bride). It was all fabulous! From the hair and make-up trial to walking down the aisle, I couldn't have asked for more. At the trial, Marine was great in asking me lots of questions and asking for feedback so that she could get a clear sense of the hair and make-up I wanted for my big day. I love Marine! I've come in to have my eyelashes done at least half a dozen times. I've come with them tangled and mangled and always leave looking and feeling full of glamor. She has great attention to detail and makes sure each lash is placed perfectly. The process has become quicker over time as Marine is now an eyelash master, so I hold tight for about an hour, and re-open my eyes with a full thick set of beautiful lashes that last up to a month (sometimes more!)I plan to come visit her many more times, and for all my future eyelash needs. Marine did my hair and makeup for both my engagement pictures and my wedding day, and I was BEYOND THRILLED with how everything turned out. After my hair and makeup session for my engagement pictures, I knew immediately I wanted Marine to do my bridal stuff as well. Working Marine was so lovely - not only is she very professional and so nice, she's a true artist! Whether you're the kind of bride who knows exactly the kind of look she wants, or if you're like me who didn't really know, Marine will make you look amazing. Marine is the absolute best (obviously).  I would never trust my lashes to anyone else in the city.  Her space is super clean and zen and I always leave feeling beautiful.  I wasn't quite sure what to expect from my first lash experience and now I am HOOKED.  Trust me, it is worth it!  It's so convenient to be able to book appointments online and she's always really accommodating.  The Femme Naturelle lashes are amazing.  I LOVE being able to roll out of bed and wear no makeup.  I have so much more time to relax and drink coffee before work now!  Treat yourself!!! I had been wanting to try eyelash extensions for a very long time and I finally took the plunge. I did a lot of research about places in SF and decided to go with Belle by Marine based on the great reviews they've received. I scheduled my appointment online and Marine contacted me to say that she was unavailable during that time because she was doing a wedding that day, but could meet me later in the day after she was done. I appreciate the fact that she was able to see me after spending all day doing hair and makeup for a wedding. She talked me through the process as she was working and I love the result. I scheduled my next touch-up before I left. She also followed up with me after to see how my eyes were doing. She's great and I would highly recommend her if you're looking to do extensions. So this is my first ever lash extension service. And I got the Yelp deal from Olalash because of all the 5 stars and rave reviews. The booking experience was just ok. I wasn't wow by them on the phone. I wanted to book with Marine because her name was mentioned a lot on these reviews, but Marine booked me with Celia instead because she said she was really busy with another client on the day I wanted to come in. I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed, but I just kind of went into the appointment with an open mind.On the day of the appointment, I showed up and Celia was there to greet me. Celia was very surprised to learn that I didn't know anything about lash extensions, but she was really nice and explained a lot of it to me on the spot. Since I have never gotten lash extension done before, I didn't know what I wanted, so I told Celia to make that decision for me when she asked me what type of lashes I wanted. I felt really comfortable with her and asked her a lot of questions, and then we just kind of talked about weddings, families, etc during the time she separated each of my lashes and glue the extensions on them. For those of you who think (like I did) lash extension service only takes maybe 30 minutes, think again, it actually took Celia two hours to do my lashes. And she did a great job. They came out...beautifully!As of right now, I am really happy with them. I had them done a few days ago, and waited to write this review. They still look really natural and pretty. I think Celia told me that they should last as long as my natural lashes last, meaning they will fall off as the real lashes fall off, so approximately 3 weeks or so. I am looking forward to filling them in in a few weeks and maybe do a few adjustments now that I know how they should look on me and the process of getting them done, etc. Overall, I am definitely happy with how this turned out and would recommend Celia at Olalash. She and her assistant did hair (no makeup) for 7 girls on the morning of the wedding in under three hours -- we were done early, in fact! I've been seeing Marine for over 3 months now. I've been to other lash extension salons in the city as well as Sacramento and she is hands down the best I've experienced. Marine is just wonderful. She did my hair and makeup for my City Hall wedding in January, and both turned out beautifully. I'm always a little bit nervous about getting my makeup done and looking melodramatic, but I needn't have worried. I came out looking like a well-rested, bright-eyed, camera-ready version of myself. My hairstyle (a half-up braided thing that I'd found on the interwebs) still looked fantastic 12 hours later, as the reception was wrapping up. Marine is the BEST!I had major sticker shock when I realized how much brides pay for day-of hair and makeup. I tried to find cheap options, but I was disappointed with the outcomes. Finally, I set a trial with Marine. I knew right away that it was worth it! She patiently did 3 different hairstyles until we found the exact right style. Marine did my wedding hair+make up, and make up for 4 others for my Sonoma wedding this past Sep. And she did a fantastic job! . Marine is very patient with me. I walked in her studio thinking that I wanted my make up to be all natural during my make up and hair trial. I ended up settling with big hair and full lashes. I still look like me but just much prettier. On my wedding day, I had this big messy bun on top of my head. But I was a clumsy girl and messed up the bun for a couple times. But Marine was so patient and able to fix it for me. The make up was great. I cried during the ceremony, dancing all night, it was mid 80s in Sonoma in Sep. And my make up didnt smudge at all. Marine and assistant Celia provided hair and makeup services for me and my ladies for my wedding. They were so quick and efficient we were done with TEN services half an hour early! And we only scheduled 45 mins for each service! Alicia is a godsend. After the horror-story experience of having my MUA cancel 4 separate trial dates and then just stop responding completely, I feel SO lucky that I found Belle by Marine, and that Alicia was available on July 12, 2014. My wedding day was perfect, and she handled all 8 (!!) of my bridesmaids and my mom with complete calm, cool efficiency.
