My family and I were struggling to find someone to watch our dog while we left for the Philippines for about a month. One of our family members spoke to us about how a friend of theirs left their dog in a board and training program and it sounded like a great idea since we first tried out Petco's group training sessions which did not last past 2-3 sessions. My mom actually came across Judge and from there we got into contact with him. We had 2 meet and greet sessions the first one was to meet us, our Labrador, Waimea, and to get more sense of him and his business. The second meeting was to get Waimea a little bit more familiar with him before we were to drop her off to him. Before leaving her with him Judge& I exchanged snapchats which allowed me to see her progress the whole time I was away in the Philippines. When we got her back it was like having a different dog! She listens more& is now way calmer. He not only teaches your dog, but he also educates you as an owner. More...

We found Judge through friends who went through his program with their two pitbulls. Their pitbulls are super obedient, and we wanted the same for what was at the time our smart, but crazy, aggressive, stubborn, mean black Labrador. Our lab would not listen to any of his commands, counter surf, pull leash, lash out and growl aggressively towards other dogs, and we wanted to fix that because we want our smart Labrador to be the best that he can be.Judge's program is setup in a way where the first meeting is free and he will assess your dog. He will introduce you to his dogs as well and show you how incredibly obedient they are. After that, you can decide which program to go with. We opted with the 5 private and 5 group class package. The first few classes were private classes in which our black Labrador builds up his skills. During these first few weeks, he learned how to heel properly, sharpen his sit, stay down for long periods of time, etc. These skills go hand in hand for his success in his next steps: group classes. The group classes is where all of us owners portray all of the skills we learned from our private classes. This is where all of our dogs learn to be around each other, and not get distracted by each other while we gave our own dogs commands.Overall, I am happy with how far along my dog has come. Coming in I thought the boy was going to be the problem child in the classes and just be difficult. However, the training has taught us a lot about how to be an owner as well. Our dog is WAY more obedient and listens to the commands we give now. He does not pull on the leash anymore when we take him anywhere. His aggression is still there though, but way better than what it was at the beginning. We have the option to keep attending group classes, which we will. I know over time, being exposed to more different dogs in a group class environment, he will be better. Thanks Judge! More...

Ive been working with Judge for my husky Kino for about 2 years now and Ive seen amazing results working with him. We go on at least 2 off leash hikes every month and it is so so important that I have voice command over my husky. If anyone who is reading this that has a husky they know that they listen to you whenever they feel like it. And when you are out of the house and off leash that is the most dangerous combination. On top of that my husky is usually an asshole and tries to dominate other dogs by running up to them and sizing them up by putting his neck over theirs which results in a fight of they dont back down. Luckily in the last 6 months we havent had an incident and we are so grateful that we came to judge with our training needs. Below is a few things about his training style and program for those that want some detail. First off, he is a no games trainer when it comes to the dogs. Some see it as being harsh and unnecessarily aggressive with the corrections, but Ive learned that you have to set the clear guidelines. Last thing you want is a vet bill of $1,000 for messing up another dog. Or a $300 vet bill for your husky running out the door and trying to kill the neighbors cat (yeah both happened to me its why we contacted Judge). I see a lot of the 1 star reviews talking about him choking their dog. Yeah well its effective and I kind of had the same initial reactive but then I learned that it doesn't hurt the dog as much as you think and my dogs still happy to see me everyday I come home from work. Second, hes big on pushing for group training which I also didn't understand why at first and I remember not really feeling like I understood his reasoning. The group training's been the biggest help for our dog because like most dogs when they get outside and see other dogs they noise cancelling goes on and its like they don't hear you. No they just don't want to listen to you because they are so focused on the other dog. Mine in particular was always concerned the other dogs were out to fight him. After 2 group sessions I saw a huge change in his comfort level around other dogs. Third, the only issue I had with Judge was scheduling and maybe a training regiment. He was like 30 mins for 2 sessions but honestly I'm a business owner myself and I kind of forgot and didn't confirm with him in the morning. Just make sure you confirm in the am with him and you shouldn't have a problem. And there's not a set training course with him so I'd advise writing down all the issues and things you want to correct with your dog and go over with him when you see him to get the most out of every session. From the moment I met Judge you could see his passion for training. We have two Cane Corso Mastiffs Blue will be 2  she is 75 lbs and Bowser is 100lbs will be 1 this December. We came to Judge last May. I was unable to walk our older Cane corso she was aggressive towards other dogs and  would jump at people trying to walk by I had no control of her. My husband had gone through training with her at another trainer. Our puppy Bowser started picking up her bad habits. Bowser would run away Any chance he got. At home the dogs were starting to take over.  After working with judge I'm now able to walk my dogs  stress free with no pulling. I usually am walking them with a stroller and my three kids. Having two bull headed Cane Corsos I know how to properly correct them as needed along with being more aware of our surroundings. We have created thresholds in the home so they aren't running out the gate or door every time I open it. Judge taught me how to spot train the dogs so they only pee/poop in one corner of the yard. My communication and bond has grown with my dogs.    We are doing the group classes to desensitize the dogs in a controlled environment. I love the group classes each time they are working on something different.   Now we are beginning bite work  in the protection program. My babies are so excited to go to training with Bay Area K9. Judge puts so much work and care into these dogs. After each session we talk about what we are going to work on, how the dogs did and I ask any questions that  I have.  Anytime I call or text with questions he responds.  I don't know if Judge knows how much he has helped our family I'm grateful we found BayareaK9. I could tell that he had a passion for his craft which made me feel confident. Our first lesson was amazing and Judge was able to do a house call and set me up with some basic tips on potty training/setting up her space. We did some walking drills where he showed me proper ways of correcting and how to be patient with my baby. He finally set me up with some good food options and scheduled me for a follow up, the week after. As I practiced I saw really massive results and it continued as I increased my rate of practice. As the weekly results compounded, my dog was fully potty trained and following basic commands. We were able to get cleared for group training where I was able to continue our training and now am able to take my pup everywhere, without the headaches!Pricing was fair and results last a lifetime! My dog, Bruce, has come such a long way since training with Judge! Before meeting with Judge, Bruce was not getting along with any dogs or people. It was hard to have guests over and I couldn't trust him at dog parks anymore. He was showing aggressive behavior: barking, snapping, and lunging at dogs and sometimes people. Not to mention, he's almost 90lbs! I knew it was time to seek professional help. Bruce even attempted to bite Judge and his dog, DaVinci, the first time we met.Judge is extremely knowledgeable and knows exactly what he's doing. He was able to predict Bruce's behavior within 15 minutes of our evaluation. I signed up with him for private and groups lessons immediately and haven't looked back since! After a few months, Bruce is a completely different dog. Walking him is so carefree now, he barely even looks at other dogs walking by. I've been able to take him to busy parks like Lake Elizabeth, San Leandro Marina, and off leash hiking without having to worry. I've even taken him to outdoor restaurants and everyone says Bruce is so sweet and gentle. Judge not only has trained Bruce, but he teaches the handler as well. He taught me how to communicate with Bruce properly, how to use positive correction, and ways to boost his confidence level. As a dog handler, I was diligent in practicing everything that Judge taught me during our private lessons. I haven't seen Bruce this happy in a long time; he's always excited to go to his group classes!Judge runs this business all by himself so I am grateful for him being so accommodating with working around my schedule. But after only a couple sessions with Judge I saw big improvements in Umka's behavior. I rescued my 1 year old dog Spencer a couple months ago at SPCA in Oakland. I contacted Judge for a free evaluation and signed Spencer up for his classes. The changes I have seen in Spencer are drastic. The first few days he was in our house, he was very timid. By the third day, he was aggressively barking at anyone beyond our immediate family. Taking him to classes with Judge, I gained a whole entire understanding to Spencer's needs. He was lacking order and leadership. He didn't even have any interest in toys and his tail was consistently tucked between his legs. Other dogs made him uneasy. Now, he is able to focus, take commands and have become a lot more social. Group classes are always fun because it gives Spencer a chance to not only exercise but socialize with other dogs. It has been great learning what I need to do to help Spencer in a private indoor setting for some classes and socializing him with some lessons at San Leandro Marina. With plenty of distractions, it gives us a real "hands on" experience and ability to see Spencer focus and build his confidence. I've also signed Spencer up for Judge's Doggy Day Camp. This is the first part of a two part review.  So far so good.  We welcomed our Chocolate Lab to our home in February.   Awesome dog, but played a little rough for my son and wife - for me she was better.   We decided that for the dogs sake as well as ours to find a good trainer so that we could all enjoy her for the rest of her life.   As she was a puppy, we paid for the board and train package which was 3 weeks with them now (for on leash training) and then 3 weeks after 7 months for off-leash training.   Back at home with us since late March and there is a marked difference now.  She definitely knows what NO is, waits for us to go through a door opening first, walks into her kennel and knows sit and down.   We have to reinforce this by working with her at home, but she is a different dog and we are enjoying her much more than we could have before.James Taylor knows what he is doing, is very responsive and trains us as well so we have some foundation to work with.  I have already recommended him to several friends including a former police officer.  I will be looking forward to our next set of training - it will be kind of cool to have a dog that responds off leash and that we can take anywhere without fear. Before seeing Judge, my dog was the loudest pup wherever he went. My dog loves announcing himself to other dogs because he gets so excited whenever he sees other dogs. With Judge's help, I was able to train him to be calm and collected when we went out, and it was the best thing ever. More...

As a new dog owner, there are so many things to learn and to explore. Judge really helped me a great deal not only trained the dog but also "trained" me to learn the good practices. I recommend Judge to everyone especially new dog owners who want their dog happy, obedient and healthy More...

If you need your dogs trained, I definitely suggest going to Judge! He trained my blue nose pitbull, Noor. He stayed 30 minutes longer than the hour he was supposed to train him. Now my dog doesn't tug when I take him out for walks, and that's the main problem we had with him. He is very professional and definitely cares to text it or call back when I have simple questions to ask no matter how busy his schedule is. We still have a couple more sessions, and we are looking forward to them! More...

I'm a first time dog owner(mommy) and very protective of my baby pit bull Blue. She survived Parvo when she was 8 weeks and ever since then I didn't want her to go through any pain (she is 8 months now). I researched a lot and wanted to find a trainer that was aligned with my beliefs in dog training. I didn't want harsh corrections for Blue but at the same time I wanted the most effective way for her to obey our commands. My fiance and I didn't have much background in raising a puppy and training her. So as you can imagine she wasn't very focused, she'd majorly pull on her leash when we'd try to walk her, she wouldn't listen to our commands, etc. Thankfully we found Judge and after meeting with him and he analyzed Blue, I felt very comfortable knowing Blue would be in good hands.Judge is very honest and will only suggest the amount of private sessions he sees fit. We had 5 private sessions and 5 group sessions. By the second private session my fiance and I felt like Blue was a changed dog! She obeyed our commands and much better behaved. She is able to focused sit, down with distractions, climb, jump over, recall, socialize with other dogs/humans, and best of all she does amazing in her walks now and I'm able to jog with her now without her tripping me.Judge was able to help us achieve all of this with food based rewards. At the end of the day Blue is happy and therefore we are happy :)I'd definitely recommend training your dog with Bay Area K9. More...

We reached out to judge about a month ago in regards to our pit bull mix rescue, Apollo, who was horrible on leash and dog reactive. We met with Judge at a park and he was able to explain Apollo's body language to us so that we could really understand the cause of his behaviors. He first showed us how to correct and reward the behaviors and allowed us to practice quite a few times to ensure we got the hang of it. He then brought out his own dog so that we could practice correcting Apollo's dog reactivity. The method used was different then what I was used to, however it is very effective. Our dog is very hard headed and stubborn so I was so relieved to have found a method that worked to modify his negative  behaviors.Another thing I appreciated was that judge also gave us suggestions on Apollo's diet and coat. It showed us that he genuinely cares about his clients and their well being. Last, judge was very direct, to the point, and honest. He doesn't try to force more sessions if you don't need it. He gave us all the tools we needed to modify Apollo's behaviors in one session, which was great. Thanks so much for your help Judge, we're still working with Apollo and look forward to working with you more in the future. More...

Absolutely great trainer. Straight forward, very honest, easy to work with schedule. If he thinks your dog is good and don't need the training he'll go to the next or work with another advance skill. I had doubts about paying for dog training but I needed it for Toby the Boston terrier. Working with Judge definitely cleared those doubts. Highly recommended. More...

We first reached out to Bay Area K9 because our 75lb female german shepherd had aggression from getting attacked by two dogs. When we first brought her to Judge, he tested to see whether she was aggressive or if her aggression came from fear. I knew off the bat that Judge knew what he was doing when it came to dog training. We had difficulty walking her because she would pull but now we never have a problem with her. In fact, we've been walking with the leash hanging off our shoulders and she's never walked ahead or fallen behind. Also, Judge has worked with boosting our dog's confidence so she is able to be around unfamiliar faces and dogs without being too skittish or aggressive. Although she isn't where we would have hoped, we saw great improvement after working with Judge. More...

Judge is a guy of detail, and shows it with his training methods, I found him through searching for local trainers who have great examples of training through their own working dogs. I am a working dog fanatic and was beyond impressed when I saw Judges shepherds working. As soon as I picked up my working pup and she was old enough she was enrolled in his program. I have a dog of very high intelligence, and very high drive, and wanted to put it to good use. Working with Judge I've seen nothing but results, and am glad I have been setting up my pup for her future work. Judge knows what he's doing, especially when it comes to IPO sport and protection training. My pup has been getting better with every session, in addition Judge has been building a strong foundation in building a strong bite. In addition he will work with you as a handler and being a trainer for your dog, which was important to me as I wanted to take a big role in becoming a better dog handler for a working shepherd.Judge is a respectful guy and has been able to work with me with scheduling sessions around a busy schedule. I am looking forward to working with judge in building an excellent, sound, and intelligent protection dog. Highly recommend learning from judge if you're looking to have a working dog. Or any dog. I am so glad to have found Bay Area K9 online. Judge is not only a great trainer for humans and dogs but is very professional. He has worked wonders on our English Bull Terrier Xena. It is literally night and day with her behavior.Xena no longer pulls when we go on walks, she recalls, sits, lays down and will climb objects when told to do so! It may seem basic, but this dog is stubborn and hard headed and it has made all the difference in her training having Judge help us.Judge is friendly and personable. I can tell he is passionate about the work he does with the effort and care he has put it into helping me and my boyfriend train our dog.Judge's training program is excellent and I would recommend it to anyone looking for some training for their dog. Another great thing is how he has been flexible with scheduling our sessions as my boyfriend and I work a lot and he has always been willing to accommodate our busy schedules. More...

So grateful for the training we received with Judge, his honesty, understanding of our dogs temperament, assessments and suggestions. We bought an adorable Catahoula Bulldog-Labrador mix puppy, and despite my no-nonsense training style, stay at home mom presence, boundaries, exercise, continual training research, consistency, (and love of course) we had a dog who was steadily gaining 11 lbs a month, challenging me constantly, and became a wild animal if we ever had guests over, attempted a walk, or took him to play with his sister (same litter, my parents dog). At 7 months and 84 lbs I was getting bruises all up and down my legs and arms, was constantly sore from reigning him in, and we reached a place where I could not take him out while I had my kids with me because he crashed into my 2 year old slamming him into a metal door. All of this was confusing and contrasted starkly with the obedient docile dog while he was in our house. He'd listen, obey, respected house boundaries, was amazing with the 2 and 4 year old, etc. But something needed to be done and quick. So I emailed several different local trainers and explained our 'issues'. Judge was one of the first to reply and even though his initial email assessment was off, our one on one consultation went very well, I could tell he had command of his dogs, he really observed my (crazy) dogs behavior and seemed confident (but not cocky or prideful) in handling my dog, giving me pointers etc. My dog was acting so ridiculous (barking and charging like a lion) that a bunch of guys working down the street had stopped working and were watching in rapt attention. But Judge was able to discern that my dog was not aggressive, even though to an untrained eye he really appeared to be. We knew that we needed individual lessons and so bought the beginning package, which was comparable in price to other trainers individual lessons.Judge worked with us, gives suggestions, and our dog is not as crazy as he was. There was a marked difference after even the first private session, he is still way far off from a perfect canine, but seriously has done a full 180 from where we were, the money spent was worth every penny. The commands are even easy enough that our kids are now able to use them with success around the house and he responds and listens to them. I look forward to continuing our training to further tame this beast!!! More...

Just finished my 3rd private lesson with judge and so far the results are unbelievable. My dog jumped on people, dragged me when I tried walking her, barked and growled at other dogs, and although she already learned the basic, sit, down and stay she refused to obey in public. With just the 3 private lessons so far I can confidently walk her without  worrying if another dog would  pass by. She listens immediately on command and the jumping has stopped. At first I was a bit skeptical about signing up because I honestly almost lost hope since she has already been through training, I did my research, and YouTubed training suggestions, but judge's "method" isn't something you can find online, in books, or from other trainers. It's simple, no need to stress, waste your time and money trying to find solutions. Just go straight to judge. More...

My wife and I adopted our 1 year old Austrian terrier from a shelter. We realized afterwards that he has major socialization issues with other animals. He could not be in the same room without barking constantly and trying to attack them. We contacted Judge after canceling a Petco basic obedience class which was not effective for our dog. During the free evaluation, Judge diagnosed our dog having fear based aggression and immediately offered the steps he would take to help correct the behavior. After a basic obedience course and over 6 months of Saturday group classes, our dog is finally starting to get along with other dogs. We're quite pleased with the progress. Bay Area K9 Training's methods are effective and easy to learn. We had no dog training prior, but Judge has done an excellent job teaching and guiding us along the way. He definitely knows how to work with all types of dogs and has tremendous knowledge in regards to training. I would highly recommend all new dog owners take at least the basic obedience class as it will change your life and your dog's life. More...
