A remarkable museum of a remarkable ship. My sons and I did the basic self-guided tour which took just shy of 2 hours and were fascinated at every turn. The ship is an amazing combination of World War II technology combined with late-Cold War technology from the 16" main and 5" secondary guns to the Phalanx defense system and the Tomahawk and Harpoon missiles. As a boy I built models of American battleships, and it was utterly illuminating to walk around the armored core of the superstructure and come to an understanding of the structure of the design. Then there was were the officers and enlisted men's quarters and the massive (and I do mean massive) galley and mess hall.We'll definitely come back in the future for the more in-depth tours of the main guns and the engineering spaces. The volunteers posted around the ship were very knowledgeable and helped bring the history to life. A visit to the Iowa is well worth the effort (although you might want to skip the app which we found just didn't function). More...

I HIGHLY recommend that anyone intrested in the sea, the Navy, or just looking for something to do, visits the Iowa. The staff are super friendly and knowledge. I took the tour of the engineering spaces, which was worth the extra expense. It included at least double the amount that you can see on the standard self-guided your. There is also a "VIP" tour which includes even more, but is significantly more expensive. It looks like parking can sometimes be an issue because the museum is located in the same area as the boarding area for the tour ships. Apparently if you have a tour ship ticket, you can tour the museum at a discounted rate (I think it was about $10 for the self-guided tour - check the website or ticket booth for details). More...

Great museum that takes pride in helping the community see what a battleship is about. The self guided tour is a good way for a group to spend the afternoon seeing the ship at their own pace. There are a lot of stairs to climb up and down so be prepared to help small kids and older members of the group as you pass from level to level. The staff are great at answering questions about the ship and it's part in us history. More...

It was so awesome to see the battle ship up close and personal. I might say this isn't a best idea to bring your young children that couldn't follow instructions well, since there are plenty of tripping, falling hazards around the ship everywhere.
