I've had their meatballs brought home by my fiancé and they are fantastic. I finally had a chance to go to the restaurant and the people are very friendly. I had the meat tortellini in marinara sauce which is very good sauce. It was a lot of food with a salad so I had leftovers for lunch.  I also had the cannoli and it's fabulous. Competes with some of the best I have had in New York and Chicago. Probably the best in Nashville.They have pizza by the slice and it looked good too. We really enjoyed the food! The ambiance is lacking unfortunately and so I took a star off for that reason ...however they deliver so we will definitely be ordering again and enjoying at home by the fireplace with some good music! ! When I was a kid growing up in New York, when we wanted Italian food, we went to Gabby's. Gabby's was the neighborhood pizza place where you could get a slice, a pie, and all manner of pasta in red sauce. If you were feeling particularly flush, you ordered something with meat (chicken parm, lasagna, etc.). Our family of 4 (who all had very hearty appetites) usually escaped with a bill of $30 or less, and a big bag of leftovers.Flash forward 40 years, and south about 1000 miles, and, voila; you've got Basil Garden. I had many a meal in the space when it was the now departed Wild Iris. The new owners have opened it up a bit; it's brighter, and sports a takeout counter as you enter. The service was quick and friendly. Drinks are self serve (Coke products from a fountain) which, given the family casual vibe, was fine with us. We started with run of the mill mozzarella sticks with a very flavorful marinara dipping sauce. The sticks themselves were served piping hot; not too hot to eat, but hot enough to leave proper strings of melted cheese between bites. A complementary green salad is served with entrees. Mine was crisp romaine, cucumbers, sliced Roma tomatoes, and sliced olives. The greens were fresh and served very cold (the way I prefer them). Dressing is provided on the side; we had a good house vinaigrette and an excellent creamy bleu cheese.Entrees are all accompanied by freshly baked breadsticks. Warm, crusty, with a pillowy interior; delicious. We sampled classic spaghetti and meatballs; the meatballs were clearly homemade, moist, tender and wonderful. They were also the size of tennis balls, and served in pairs. We also ordered chicken parm over spaghetti; crispy pounded chicken breast with plenty of melted mozzarella. We also had baked ziti; it was a large portion, and they did not skimp on the ricotta. We finished with a VERY large slice of New York style cheesecake. Total for all of this (with plenty of leftovers) was $55 plus tip. Basil is our new "go-to" casual Italian place. Definitely recommended. More...

The food and service of Basil Garden lured my wife and I back for several more meals. Once stop was for lunch. My order was the cheese calzone and my wife picked to Philly steak sub. My HUGE calzone was served right of the oven. The cheese inside was piping hot...had to wait a bit to eat it,Mine was baked just right and was one of the better calzones that I've ever had. Winner!!A few weeks later, we had dinned at Basil Garden. My wife picked the antipasto salad and I chose the chicken parmigiana, which came with a house salad and bread. The lettuce in my little salad was fresh and crispy. After pouring on some creamy ranch dressing, the salad, to my surprise, was pretty good and I ate most of it.That was unusual, because i normally avoid salads like the plague. My loaf of  bread was warm and fresh. Thence came my chicken parmigiana. The portion was more than ample. The chicken was both moist & tender inside  and slightly crispy on the outside. I was expecting a lot more cheese on my chicken than what was served, but the dish was still very enjoyable.Our service here was excellent. Both my meals were pretty good, especially the calzone, which was excellent. We're already making plans to bring friends here to enjoy the food and I recommend it to others. When you first enter it is a little confusing as you will be asked to take a seat. Once you are ready to order you will be asked to come back to the counter. Do not let this detour you. We ordered the eggplant parm as an appetizer and would give it 10 stars. My husband ordered the chicken parm and I ordered the baked ziti, both were excellent and the portions are more enough for one person!!!  Most dishes will make two meals!!  The salads are fresh and the house dressing is fantastic. This is a fairly new business but with this quality of food they will become a local favorite quickly!! More...
