I've been walking for Barkly for about a month and absolutely love it! The in-app features like setting my availability make it really easy to balance working full time with my love for dogs! The Barkly support team is always available to answer questions and provides great support - best of all, they really listen to feedback and truly want to make pet care the best possible experience for everyone involved! I have nothing but good things to say about Barkly Pets! The first thing I noticed when applying as a walker was that the customer service was phenomenal. Barkly replies almost instantly and always has a walker + customer friendly service. They will hear you out and do their best to ensure that your dog (or dogs) have a wonderful walk. The application process consisted of a background check, training, and two different interviews to ensure that the customers are relying on credited walkers.

From the eyes of a walker, I can assure you that we want the best for your dog. If you would like to meet a walker, it is free of charge. Therefore, if you would prefer to greet a walker in person before they walk your dog, all you would have to do is request it in the app. Regardless, all walkers are trained and equipped to walk and care for your dogs. Here’s what I can tell you about Barkly Pets, with experience as both a former walker and a former employee who worked closely with the founders and staff: their mission statement, “People’s pets should be cared for by someone who loves them as much as they do” is taken to heart. Every person at the company, starting with the three founders, truly feels that each dog in Barkly’s care is their own, and they will do everything in their power to make the customer’s experience what they would want as dogs owners themselves.

As a walker, I had a schedule that was as flexible as I wanted, and I felt fully supported every step of the way by the staff who was always just a text or call away, no matter what time of day it was or what the issue might have been. I also was always made to feel that my feedback on things actually mattered. I was shown that concretely in that every email or piece of feedback was answered promptly and thoughtfully, often by the founders themselves.

As an employee, I got to see firsthand how much the founders care and what genuinely good people make up the whole Barkly team. I got to see what motivates the company and how decisions are made; it is always with the question of how to improve the experience and with the best interest of walkers, customers, and pups in mind.

Great experience! I hurt my leg and couldn't walk my dog for several days. Walkers were responsive, sweet with my boxer, understanding of her leash reactiveness and took her on great walks. I am a biased reviewer as I have been working with Barkly for quite some time now, but I am also a user of the service and I couldn't be happier. I don't have a dog but I have an elderly cat who needs a lot of attention and special care. Barkly's walkers have taken care of my cat while I was out of town several times now and the peace of mind it has provided is just a godsend. I have a very needy, very big great dane. We recently moved to DC and it was a tough transition. The Barkly team was everything for my dog! They helped me find the perfect walker, they listened to my concerns, they were SUPER quick and responsive. Not only does Barkly treat the dogs they walk (full pun intended) as if they were their own, but their management and company ideals make it a great environment for us walkers as well! They care about keeping their walkers well compensated and feeling appreciated, and a happy walker leads to a happy customer. Rather than slash prices to increase volume, they're concerned with finding the best and retaining them, to provide the best customer experience. “I have been a walker for Barkly for a months and some change. I dig the company! They do right by their walkers and are willing to help you along the way. Each customer I interact with enjoys the company and the experience. The app functions pretty good as well. You receive notification when your phone is closed, which is helpful. I started using Barkly Pets a few months ago when my original dog walking service suddenly became unavailable in my area and have been very happy with the service ever since. My dog walker is amazing, always on time, takes excellent care of my boys, and is always communicating with me on how they are doing and any changes that need to be made to our walking schedule. Payment for services is very easy and extremely reasonable. Booking walks is also easy to do and if you have any questions that need to be answered, customer service is attentive and timely. I like Barkly a lot because it's easy to use and the service ensures that someone will always come to walk my pup. I don't have to worry if a dog walker has to cancel because the service will just find someone else - so it gives me peace of mind I might not have if I was just working with an individual walker.

There is still some room for improvement though. Many of the walkers don't seem to have much training and kind of just let the dog walk them. They're all really nice and if I provide some instructions they're good about that, but I'd feel more confident if i saw that they had read up some on dog training and handling before starting - I'd suggest adding some training programs for all new walkers to learn about basic positive reinforcement training, how to handle dogs on hot summer days, etc.

This takes me to my second point, which is that it's hard to find one or two walkers through the service who will come consistently. There's a lot of turnover, so we have someone mostly regular for a few months and then it seems to shift. Because I currently feel like i have to train every new walker, this can be a little frustrating. Sometimes we get new people randomly all through the week. I think that if I knew everyone working for the service had gotten significant training on how to work with dogs, I'd feel more comfortable with this. I shouldn't have to tell the walkers things like "don't let him walk you" or "please try to cover some distance so he gets exercise and don't just let him lead you in a circle around our building."

To be clear, all of the walkers take well to feedback and love my dog. I know he's in the hands of someone who cares. So I see this more as an issue where the company itself can improve by providing more training to new hires and ongoing training to regular staff. How fantastic would it be to have a walker who knew something about dog training and could work with your pup on any bad habits, was well trained on how to monitor for heat issues in the summer, and could ensure he was getting the exercise he needed?

Lastly, I'll say that I love that many walkers have texted me ahead of coming for the first time which I really appreciate that. I wish they all did it, because it makes me feel better to know who the person walking my dog is and have an open line of communication with them. More...
