Good gym, not a lot of auto belays right now, but good top rope if you have a belayer.

My favorite rock climbing place with auto-belays. I actually like Focus Climbing better because it's easier to get a spot but Focus does not take American Express credit card so I prefer On The Rocks. On The Rocks is often crowded and popular. More...

I'm such a newbie climber but I've felt so incredibly safe, welcomed, and encouraged at this gym. I find that fellow climbers are willing to lend a helping hand, and that the staff always has a smile on their face. In terms of cleanliness and amenities, you can't beat this facility! I only wish there was one closer to downtown Phoenix!! More...

I have loved coming to AZR, the staff is really friendly, I enjoy using the autobelays (although I wish there were more of them for busy hours! ) and the routes are really enjoyable to problem solve. I also love the bouldering area and any place where I can get upside down! If you're looking for a fun place to climb, this is it! More...

Seventeen months of membership at AZ on the Rocks and I'm loving every second of it! I usually start my evenings with a few auto-belay warm ups, followed by top-rope climbing with my climbing friends, the maybe leading a route or two, bouldering to round out the climbing, and then slacklining or hangboarding - there are so many options at AZ on the Rocks! I also take yoga classes on some Tuesday and Thursday evenings - those classes are focused on the needs of rock climbers and the instructors always ask what we want to do!The climbing routes are changed frequently, the employees are knowledgeable, the route setters are phenomenal climbers themselves, the climbing holds are new, and the auto-belays and ropes are of very high quality. Go and check out AZR!! More...

This was our first time at AZ on the Rocks with my two boys(8 and 4). The staff was so friendly and helpful from the moment we walked in. They made the boys feel comfortable and safe and after a few minutes practicing, they were flying up and down the wall. We spend over 2 hours there and the boys were begging us to go back as soon as we walked out the door. More...

Awesome gym, great staff (and with a sense of humor), mostly top rope, some lead climbing, small bouldering area. For bouldering, holds are a bit polished so I feel that rating is slightly lower than the intended difficulty level but I like the setting, a nice blend of burly, technical, and dynamic sequences. Friendly climbers as well, so overall a great experience! More...

This place is awesomely legit. I compared four different climbing gyms in the valley and selected AZ on the Rocks. It was pricier than the others but SO worth it. You get what you pay for and this facility is so worth every dime. It is well kept and clean. They offer auto belay and a nice sized bouldering section. There is an upper level that offers fitness equipment, a tread-wall, and a Ninja Training rig. The staff is very laid back but attentive. They are not snobby or elitist about correcting technique and make you feel like an idiot. They have events and competitions and really makes their members feel involved. Even makes involving kiddos easy! Definitely satisfied with my membership and looking forward to becoming a better, stronger climber! More...

I came in to Az on the rocks for the first time and I was able to test out of belaying. There was absolutely not Hassel and one of the very cool things was chalk didn't cost extra. It comes with the gear when you rent. There were a lot of people there when I went, but not once did it ever feel crowded. They had every wall open and even had 12 auto belays. The walls were challenging and spaced out so if you wanted a certain level, you didn't get stuck on one wall. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great climbing exercise, thorough work out gym, and friendly staff. The place was clean and tidy. Can't say enough good things about this place. Climb on! More...
