I started training with Che after she was recommended to me by a healthcare practitioner that I know. I had just turned 40 and noticed my hormones were changing and my previous fitness routine of classpass spinning and barre workouts were not giving me the results I was looking for. I had lost mobility in my hips/glutes from overdoing the wrong workouts and my balance was extremely off. Che met me where I was at. She coached me and helped rebuild the muscle I had lost in my lower abs/glutes. It was important for me to work with someone who wasn’t going to give me a cookie cutter training workout. She tailored my workouts for my specific issues and needs. In addition to building up my strength, she demonstrated how to stretch out my lower body with a foam roller and lacrosse ball to help improve my performance. Che truly understands the mind-body connection and was able to use this knowledge to guide me towards success.We also discussed nutrition and counting my macros to make sure I was eating the right balance of protein, carbs, and fat daily. I learned during this process that I was restricting my calories too low, thinking that this would help speed up my weight loss. I was definitely not feeding my body the right balance of nutrients and she called me out on this.After 12 weeks of bi-weekly training with Che, I have gained 2 pounds of muscle back and the flexibility/balance has returned in my lower body. Let me preface this review by saying I have never done personal training or ever even took a fitness class before going to Atomic! I would go to the gym 4-5 days a week but always do my own thing. I have to say, Atomic gave me results that blew my mind. I worked with Brian but have interacted with most the trainers there and they are all great. You can't go wrong with whoever you chose! Brian made every session fun but also pushed me to do more than I thought I could do. He really worked with me and helped me make changes outside the gym as well. Every session was different, fun, and challenging, the time always flew by!! I always wanted to box so we also also starting incorporating that into my training. It's not easy, you have to put in the work but the results speak for themselves. I lost about 30 lbs, toned up and finally got in the shape I wanted!!!! I felt better than I had in a LONG time. I have been on a bit of a hiatus due to doc orders during a pregnancy but I can't wait to get back to get back to Atomic and shed off this baby weight!!! More...

I started off training with Atomic Fitness in January '18 on a Gilt City deal. I would've never thought I'd still be training with the Atomic team a year later but they are THAT good! The owner Adam is lovely and all of the trainers are great. I especially recommend Che who paid thoughtful attention to getting my form right for all types of weight training exercises. This laid a foundation for me to feel confident dealing with weights despite my weak lower back, which is the reason why I never did much with weights other than the machines at the gym and bicep curls prior to training with Atomic. I also highly recommend TJ who is excellent and consistently crafts workouts that are balanced yet challenging. I always feel the impact of my workouts with him when the muscle soreness kicks in (in a good way!) a day or two after we train. He's also super knowledgeable about all forms of exercise and training and I've learned a lot that helps me more efficiently work out on my own just by asking him questions and through my workouts with him. It's obvious that everyone here is deeply experienced in training (unlike trainers you find at gyms or elsewhere). They are pros and I unconditionally recommend them to anyone looking to lose weight and/or build strength! More...

Very good boutique gym and I was going to give a six star review, but the two stars off is because of our terrible experience with one specific trainer. The quality of workout really depends on trainer you work with. I recommend Mike, Larry and Adam, but NEVER work with Che Rodgers. My wife worked with her before and she would cancel appointment several hours before the workout for "conflict with other client". Her attitude is terrible and she didn't even apologize, she is just like this is what it is and you need to accept it.Adam - I sent an email to the gym about what happened to us three months ago and never get a response , that is why I left a review. I updated my review after Mike talked to me. I want to be fair to those who work hard but I also want to be objective to what happened to us. More...

I have been training at ATOMIC since 2014 and I highly recommend. The team (led by owner, Adam) is fantastic and the equipment and space is top-notch, clean and they are always bringing in new equipment to try. They have a range of trainers with different styles (my go-to right now is Larry) so you will find someone who matches well with your goals or just rotate and learn new techniques from the team as you go. They have full showers with clean towels and a great location near subways and in the heart of midtown. Check out Atomic - I believe they will even throw in the 1st session for free. I've been working with Che and Gary, but mostly Che as of late. Che is more than just a good trainer - she will also talk you through life stuff, and help you with your diet and exercise at home so you can continue the work when you go home. She understands that everything is connected and that being a good trainer is more than just providing a good work out. I can also text her whenever if I have questions.What I like about all the trainers at Atomic is that I don't ever feel like anyone is trying to sell me something. ATF is the absolute best! I purchased a gilt city shortly after the New Year and was so happy with my results that I opted to purchase a full package. Facilities: They do a great job of keeping the workout areas and bathrooms clean and fully stocked with everything you may need, including full size towels, soap, shampoo and feminine products. In addition to making sure everything is clean, they are mindful to stagger their client schedule in the morning to make sure their (three) showers don't get jammed up Staff/workouts: Amazing! I've been seeing Brian for around two months and have seen drastic changes in my overall strength, performance and body composition. While I've only worked out with Brian, it's very clear that EVERY trainer at ATF is committed to teaching their clients how to work out and get stronger without risk of injury, which is super important and often overlooked by other trainers/fitness instructors. All of the trainers at ATF are extremely nice, welcoming and make an effort to get to know everyone who comes in, not just their own clients. An hour workout goes by so fast because I am genuinely having fun. I started working with Adam about a year ago and while I train with him only once a week, I can confidently say that this addition to the rest of my physical activities made a real difference in my fitness level. Before I joined Atomic Total Fitness, I was struggling to get in shape, turn fat into muscle and feel fit every day. Now I feel much stronger, my endurance is up and my muscle tone has improved significantly.There are many things I like about training at Atomic, here are some of them:1) When I joined, Adam worked with me to set my goals for training, asked what other activities I had (I play tennis, so we inserted some exercises to improve my footwork) and discussed what brought me to start training.2) Adam continuously reinvents the program to give my body new challenges.3) Adam has a healthy attitude towards training and is mindful of your mental and physical state when you come to train to make exercise as effective as possible but to not overdo it if you had a sleepless night.4) It's a cozy boutique gym in a brownstone, the training space is modern, well equipped, bright and clean. The showers are also renovated with nice towels, heir dryers, etc. available.5) It's fun to train here - not only training but conversation is good too!In the last few months I've received many compliments on how much progress I've made and I finally was able to break through my plateau in terms of weight loss and getting in shape. As I logged on this morning to schedule the rest of my current package, I was shocked and amazed to see that I have been going to ATF for 14 months! With that said I knew a review was LONG overdue.  I have been seeing TJ for over 100 sessions; he is hands down the best.  He does a great job of pushing me outside of my comfort zone, but in a way that is always positive and motivating.  He keeps his finger on the workout scene's pulse, coming up with creative and inventive moves, while making sure all of my workouts are different. The space is small, which I was initially uncertain about, but it doesn't even phase me.  Each trainer works to make sure their client gets the most efficient workout in.  The equipment they have is top of the line, and they are always introducing new gadgets to test out.  If you are looking for a kick ass customized personal experience, than ATF is the place for you. Atomic offers intense, interesting and varied training.  It's a true personal training experience in your own space at prices that are at least competitive--and in some cases quite possible less--than you would pay for personal training at your crappy local gym.  I was fortunate enough to find a package on Gilt City, which was an incredible bargain.The vibe at Atomic is wonderful.  You get a sincere "we're all here together to improve ourselves and get healthier" sense, from the owner Adam on down.  I worked out here mostly with Gary, who was incredibly helpful--always positive, always instructive (learned a great deal about technique and new workouts/stretches from him), and always pushing you forward, but in encouraging and productive ways.  The workouts are interesting and varied--so many involve mostly the use of your own body/weight, but they also incorporate elements from yoga and gymnastics along with newer, trendier equipment such as TRX and resistance bands.  Their workout plans themselves are also cleverly structured.  The starting plan, called Foundations, is designed so that in your first few visits, you will cycle through the same routine about 3-4 times.  And just when you start to feel yourself thinking, "You know, this isn't quite so challenging, is this really all they have for me," boom, you come in to a whole new and different and more challenging routine for a couple of sessions.  Then on to the next one...The equipment they have is new and solid, and they have sufficient space so that in most cases you will have your own room with a devoted trainer--perhaps at a rush hour time you might have to share the space with one other session.  The locker room area is nice, but only separated from the gym area by curtains, so you will have to change in the showers, which is frustratingly cramped, but the showers are at least clean and well-maintained.If you are in the market for a personal training experience, or just upgrading from your regular and monotonous gym experience, it would be hard to find a better choice--or challenge yourself and your body in a better way--than by coming to Atomic. I bought a Gilt 12 session package a while back and I have to say it was both a fantastic deal and a great new workout for me. I've worked mostly with Gary and Brian and can not recommend them both enough. The gym is right off the 6 line which makes it super convenient. They have all the equipment you would need to get a killer workout. The space is a little small and I was skeptical at first, but let me tell you - it really doesn't matter at all. If anything, it's shown me how you can get creative with your workouts. I have been mostly in the morning (7 am) as they usually dont have evening times open. Hasn't been an issue at all though because I prefer mornings.The trainers do a great job of pushing you and making sure you always put in 100%. I love how they confirm the night before and also remember little things about what I'm working on (for example, better nutrition throughout the week). If you're looking for a boutique, personal training gym that will woop your butt into shape but still have a lot of fun...you've found it here! And the price isn't as crazy expensive as most NYC work outs. Thanks Gary and Brian! More...

Adam, Gary, and the entire team are extremely knowledgeable, motivating, and friendly. They are able to tailor workouts to any skill and fitness level and I have significantly improved my overall strength and fitness since I started working out with them. I never write Yelp reviews since i am in the media industry and never know who is writing these things. After working with Atomic for the last 2 months i decided i would have to write a review. This is actually my first Yelp review ever and boy do they deserve it! I have been working with TJ for a couple months now and he has transformed my body to exactly what i wanted for my wedding. He goes out of his way to deal with me and all my needs and always with a smile on his face! TJ is truly amazing. I am getting married in 10 days and i can't thank him enough. Whenever i do not book in time or TJ is off i train with Layla. Layla really takes time to like i say "kill me" but to "kill me" in the best way possible and its exactly what i need. I recommend everyone at Atomic. I would say if you are a Bride to be you should have no hesitation Atomic is where you want to be.. The owner Adam is so nice and has the best customer service a customer could ask for. I really feel like the whole team is family. They always ask me how i am doing and start conversation. Honestly, I was skeptical when I joined atomic and never thought that I would be able to stick with them for long since personal sessions can be bit overwhelming. But It's been 6 months since I have started training with atomic fitness and my experience has been awesome. I have noticed the improvement in my overall physique and stamina. They not only work on strength training but also emphasize on mobility. After each session I feel energetic and happy even though I am exhausted from the workout.Their sessions are well crafted .The trainers are attentive , encouraging, knowledgeable and definitely push you to work hard. I have been training with Adam and Gary for over a year and can't overstate how much I appreciate their knowledge and approach to fitness training.  Atomic will work you hard but they will also teach you technique, improve your mobility, and introduce practice areas ranging from power-lifting to gymnastics to martial arts.  Every time I've asked a question on technique they have been careful to explain the reasons why (power, injury-prevention, etc.) and will often pull a reference text off their shelf or off of the computer.  Workouts can be tailored however you like and the focus is on setting long-term goals and sticking to them.  Atomic's facilities are always clean and they've made great use of the space; there are three showers so it's a rare day when you might have to wait given that training is staggered.  Atomic is anything but a one-size-fits-all philosophy and they are constantly challenging their own routines and assumptions to improve the efficiency or efficacy of the program.  I've tried a bunch of different gyms ranging from equinox to high-end boutiques and I've found that Atomic is the only one I've been able to stick with for a full year.  It's a friendly environment with engaging trainers who will give you their full attention. I purchased a 12-session on Gilt and am very happy with the training.  Adam is very knowledgable of anatomy / body structure, which helps me to understand the mechanics of getting the right form.  I highly recommend to anyone who does not just want to jump and sweat for an hour, but would like to better understanding of lifting and gymnastics movements. I purchased a Gilt 12-session package from Atomic after my husband Sean had been successfully working out with Adam for almost a year.  I had personally witnessed Sean receive numerous compliments from friends about how buff he looked of late and decided it was time for me to also make a push as Spring was just around the corner. Joining Atomic has been one of the best commitments I have made to myself. I have been a member since 2012, and first joined in preparation for my wedding. During that time, I trained about 2 to 3 times a week and got into amazing shape with the help of Adam and Gary. I am so thankful for the friendship I have formed with Adam and Gary, they are extremely professional, knowledgeable and caring about their clients and their fitness goals. I can not say enough good things about their work ethic, and the attention they place in customizing their client workouts. No matter how I felt before my training session, I always leave feeling 100% better. They encourage me to keep working towards my goal, listen to my insecurities, work around exercise limitations, and provide long term positive habits. I agree with a lot of other reviews on this page, ATF is an amazing value, no gym membership or pushy sales people, just good old fashioned working out! The gym is small but clean, tidy and gets the job done, with AMAZING trainers! I have worked with all of them at this point and I genuinely look forward to seeing them! What you can expect; a few sessions where the trainer (again I cannot stress how amazing they ALL are) figures out your form, gets to know your style (what you like and hate), what you're looking to achieve etc, then you set goals and watch your body change! There is a little more to it than this, which is why you should go in and try it for yourself :) Whether you have been working out for years or never stepped foot in a gym any one of the trainers here will be able to help you achieve your goal (which they will also help you set, because as I learned from Gary getting a hot beach body isn't very concrete, squatting your own body weight on the other hand, much easier to comprehend and eventually do) From my experience, occasionally the times you prefer may not be available but everyone is so accommodating that if you let them know a time/day that works for you they will make it happen! I can't stress how much I love this place enough... stop wasting money on those lame gym trainers who are boring and start working out with people who are so knowledgeable and friendly that you will almost forget how hard you're working! These guys are AMAZING! Such a great business model - you get personal training without having to pay a membership fee on top! The training is amazing - they really personalize your training to your needs, interests, and workout style (what motivates you, what types of workouts you hate, what types of workouts you love). They really take the time to explain everything to you and pay close attention to/correct your form to make sure you're getting the most out of your workout. And they're the nicest people ever. I love how you can work with any trainer so you can book a session when it works best for your schedule. The space has everything you need for a killer workout - I love the suspension training and how they stretch you out at the end of the session. More...

I came to Atomic after being on bedrest and up 70 lbs during my pregnancy. I was in bad shape and this was the perfect way to get muscles moving and send me on my way to losing weight, and build my muscles back up. The workouts aren't too rough, but super effective. I really liked their approach to training. I worked with Adam and Gary, but all of the guys are super nice. You'll be in good hands with anyone there. I purchased a gilt deal for 12 sessions with atomic to help me prep for my wedding. After using those 12 sessions, I bought 16 more - they are that good.  Gary and Adam got me in great shape and always maintain a positive, supporting and friendly atmosphere.  They are always paying one-on-one attention to you to make sure that your form is correct and you get the most out of all your reps.  I highly recommend them and can't wait to come back.  Even for exercise newbies, this is a place with people that will make you feel strong and comfortable. Adam was great at getting me back into the gym and motivated. He takes the time to understand what you want and need and plans around that. Great experience all around!

Atomic Total Fitness is awesome. Shawn, Kim and Adam are all very personable but will also make you work. They're very responsive to your specific circumstances, goals, injuries, etc. The place is not huge but has everything you might need - plus, because of the way the space is laid out over two separate rooms, it feels like it's just you and your trainer in your own private studio. Adam and his other trainers are just wonderful!! I've been there for only a few months so far after trying out other trainers. By far, Atomic fitness is the best workout for me. Other places I have been were crowded or my workout had to be changed because machines or space were in use from other patrons. With Adam, it really is one-on-one training in your own personal gym. You get great feedback in the form of positive tips and praise. I have a way to go until I reach my goal but I know it will happen while training under Adam. I love the fact that he is always trying to improve the workouts and give clients what they ask for. The gym is very clean, organized and a perfect environment to workout in. Adam pushes you because he knows what you are capable of and will let up if he sees it is too much. He is also quite knowledgeable about every part of the body (unlike a lot of trainers) and therefore can give great tips and advice for any questions I have. Definitely a fan. I was a bit skeptical when I first started, but Adam and Gary are both great, and they definitely keep things fresh. I like how varied things are from week to week, and after the serious soreness of the first few sessions, I am feeling stronger after each visit. I heard about Atomic through a Gilt coupon, and I am hoping to keep up with the training after the 10 sessions run out. More...

Adam is seriously amazing. I've not worked out in quite sometime and I have some knee and feet injuries. The workout he put me through was difficult but doable and very mindful of my injuries. After 3 sessions, I'm pleasantly sore and can already feel myself getting stronger.  Every workout is so fun and flys by. Great music and Adam is such a joy!!! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone of any age or ability. I'm hooked!!! More...

I first started working with Adam Shuty in 2005. I've occasionally used other trainers during the seven years since, and everything you need to know about Adam and his studio can be summed up in four words: I always go back. Other trainers haven't been very good at adjusting my workout for my injuries, both temporary and permanent ones. Adam has. He doesn't baby my knee, but he finds alternative ways of strengthening it. Other trainers often seemed to have a one-size-fits-all approach to fitness. I'm not the same as your other clients, and I won't get good results from their regimen. Adam customizes my workouts not only for the individual I am and the unique body that I have, but also for whatever stage of progress I've reached. Other trainers, for heaven's sake, have sometimes let me slack when I wasn't in the mood. Adam understands the basic truths that led me to hire a trainer in the first place: I need someone to help drive me to physical success, and the days I don't feel like working out ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT DAYS TO BE WORKING OUT. Adam is a nice guy, but he knows exactly when I need to be pushed, and he isn't afraid of pushing me. Let's face it, other trainers are sometimes a little cheaper - in a city like New York, you can always find someone hungry enough for business that they'll undercut the pros. I've even paid *higher* rates than Adam's, hoping I might "get what I paid for." And I've always, always, ALWAYS gone back to Adam. Adam is a smart, funny, engaging guy who just happens also to know how to help you get in shape, stay in shape, and achieve the goals you have for your physical development. He even gives me routines to do while I'm traveling on business - or even on my honeymoon! - so that I can choose not to let myself lose progress. It is, after all, ultimately up to me. Adam is an absolutely fantastic trainer.  I have a pretty intense schedule, so I don't have a ton of time to work out.  Luckily, Adam makes my workouts super efficient and fun.  Additionally, I was really self-conscious about working out when I first came Adam because I was out-of-shape, but he has created a very comfortable, non-judgmental environment at Atomic Total Fitness, which enabled me to very quickly overcome my inhibitions and concentrate on improving my lifestyle. I feel like I accomplished a lot each time I work out with Adam.  He's challenged me (but never too much or too little); the work-outs are always changing and have progressively become more and more difficult.  Another great thing about training with Adam is he's tremendously knowledgeable about how every aspect of the body works together.  When I feel an ache somewhere, he knows how I can adjust the way I'm sitting at my desk at work or how to stretch the stress out of the area.  He always addresses my concerns about my body, and never dismisses an ache or pain.  This sort of goes along with the non-judgmental environment that Adam has created.  With a different trainer, I might feel uncomfortable voicing a concern because I would worry that they would judge me for being lazy or out-of-shape.  I never feel that way with Adam.  He doesn't take it easy on me just because I say my hamstrings are sore, but he will stretch my legs a little longer or give me a tip for how to work out the ache myself.  And actually, all of his recommendations have really helped.  I can not say enough great things about training with Adam.  He's a fantastic person, and has really helped me to improve my health and life.  I would recommend him to anyone. Kathy is the best! I've been working out with her for over a year and the restults have been amazing. She will push you to the limit and you will leave the gym exhausted and exhilarated. You will do things you didn't think possible. You will look and feel great. Workouts are always varied and fun. Their Biokinetics machines are unique and add an element that does not exist in other studios.I highly recommend seeing Kathy and Adam if you are serious about getting in shape, losing weight, or pushing your fitness to the next level.
