Annie is truly a artist. She made my whole family look fantastic. We are thrilled with results. Not only did she have to take photos of our 2 dogs, Jens and Mycroft, but also our horse, Django, as well as family photos. She come out to our barn to look around and found the perfect shot for pictures. Then she set up a time for the photo shoot, making sure the lighting and background would be perfect. When we ran out of time on that day she offered to come out the next morning to complete the shoot. Annie is very professional and wants her customers be happy. I met Annie at the Super Pet Expo and scheduled a session for her to take photos of my German Shepherd. I was nervous the day of the session because my Shepherd does not sit still for long and I was concerned about Annie not being able to get clear photos of my girl. But she did! And such amazing photos! Annie captured my girl’s beauty perfectly - whether she was running around being goofy outdoors or posing pretty indoors. Several months later, I brought home a new puppy and a few weeks later, I took both dogs to Annie for a photo session. Annie was great with Festivus. She came to our house and got a familiarity with it first. It was for purposes of sun positioning and to get an idea of where to photograph him outside. Our giant Airedale, Speaker, was in rapidly failing health and we wanted to have professional photographs before he died. Because of her compassion, Ms. Ballantine prioritized Speaker’s session so that he could be photographed in our home on this short notice. This entailed quite a lot of photography equipment being transported to our residence and rearrangement of the room setting. We LOVED the entire experience! This is coming from someone who hates her picture being taken. Annie was amazing with my two dogs and her antics to get the dogs to look had us all laughing. we opted for out door photos on her beautiful, wooded property. When we went back to view the photos they were in a slide presentation that had us all (even my husband) tearing up. We ordered pictures on board and the quality is outstanding. After talking with Annie, we learned that it was not oil on canvas at all, but a digital print made to look like one. The artwork she had on display was enough for us to sign up. Fast forward a few months to Spring and the day of our studio session was upon us. Before arriving, Annie gave us some helpful hints on what to bring and what to expect. We arrived at the studio and before long Charlotte, our 18-month-old English Lab, was loving every minute of being in front of the camera! My husband and I don’t really give each other Christmas gifts, but this year I decided to surprise him and get our dog’s photo professionally taken. I had seen Annie’s (Artful Paws) work for the Fairfax County Animal Shelter and was impressed by her talent and commitment to helping some of the most special shelter animals find loving, forever homes.Annie arranged for me to bring Lucy to her studio for an introductory visit. This was very beneficial because Lucy was comfortable in the setting on the day of our shoot. Annie was so patient with Lucy (and me) and made us both feel comfortable in a strange setting with lots of lights! Lucy did great and I thought we’d get a couple keepers. When I sat down with Annie to look at the images she had captured, I had tears in my eyes. I eventually settled on three different poses and had prints made of two of them and a “fine art” portrait of the third - meant to be hung in my husband’s home office. Before my studio session, she gave my dog Sully ample time to get acclimated to the studio and photography equipment. Sully was rewarded with treats for sitting, staying, etc. Between poses or background changes, Annie ensured he had time to rest and "be a dog". The outside shots were no different. Awesome experience!

As for the quality of the images...WOW! Her use of lighting, balance and color is outstanding. Annie's equipment is top notch. And she uses it to its full potential. She captured Sully's multiple sides (playful, serious, pensive, goofy) in one session.

Love, love, love the framed photographs of my yorkie and chihuahua that Annie created for our home. Annie was incredible, and her gift as a photographer is having a clear vision of the shots she wants to get.  No standing around debating ideas. She cuts through all of that and provides clear, calm, and detailed direction about the poses she thinks will work best.  That's not to say that she's not open to your ideas.  But the majority of the time her ideas are way better.  She captured amazing action shots of our dog Kobe fetching in the water, along with the perfect picture of my husband and I with our two dogs (ages 1 and 13). I loved her work so much I hired her to do engagement photos of my son and his fiancée with their two dogs.
