Christine was the perfect hostess and waitress. Food was wonderful.
Great for Catering! Picked up food in trays for a recent party--food was great and they provided everything we needed. Kathy provided great communication throughout the process and could not have had a better experience!
It was in my food road trip book as a great place to eat at.
Oh the Pulled Pork was great. I pour on a vinegar sauce and it brought out the favor even more. It was even bff after the second day.
Haven't been here for a couple of years since we no longer live in the area. The food is as good as we remembered. Service is great. They now have hush puppies and serve beer. We highly recommend this place. But be warned, a bbq plate is huge! There were two of us and we shared one plate and still have some to take with us. PS. Their chocolate shake is so good. More...
Best BBQ in Fredericksburg!
Allman's Bar-B-Que is out of this world!! The pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw is to die for. And those ribs! OMGosh..I can see myself there right now scarfing down man-style!! More...
If you are looking for a nostalgic experience, this is it. Allman's is a charming little roadside Barbeque joint with simple decor, clean bathrooms out back. The staff is welcoming and pleasant. The food is good and plentiful. The prices are reasonable. More...
Great service and great food
Great bar b Wye, nice staff.
Wow, you caught me far away from my current home but at a place I've loved for 50 years. Allman's has the best barbecue in Fredericksburg. Maybe the whole East Coast! Barbecue on a bun, best Coleslaw on the East Coast, really good French Fries, and ice tea. Cozy little place. Seats maybe 20. Usually very busy, especially at lunchtime. Not really cheap but a great choice if you love barbecue. The Allman's family sold this place years ago, but left their secrets behind. Current owners carrying on their tradition. More...
Great little stop on Route 1 near Route 3. 2 minutes from 95 and worth the stop. Had the classic pulled pork sandwich, hush puppies and Cole slaw. P.s. At about $7 for the sandwich "meal", this is not a cheap stop...normal, I thought. More...
I've been going here for over 40 years. Can't drive past
A top shelf, all-American staple. The BBQ is phenomenal! The service is as if you are part of the family. The store brings you to a nostalgic time but delivers on the fact that we reach those values by serving each other exceptionally.
Great bar-b-que, great price, great service
BEST in town, if you’re even somewhat close by!
I love their BBQ.. the homemade coleslaw is second to none.. I was disappointed that the buttermilk was discontinued.. will be back though..
Great BBQ lunch spot. Local gem

Was at first upset that the ribs seemed pressure cooked but they were still good
First time here, good food great prices, great waitress, will come again
I honestly was not that satisfied with the barbecue, in my opinion it was dry. The sides were amazing nonetheless and portions also good with the price. Nice small place with a lot of history and nice staff. More...
I love this historic place!
Excellent great flavor and service.
If it's good Southern style bbq you want. Very good. Also a Fredericksburg landmark.
B B Que some what dry food was good this little high in price
Pros: portions, sides, service, and priceCon: pulled pork was dry and bland requiring bbq sauce which I am not a fan of.
Best barbecue. I love the chicken BBQ. Best cole slaw I ever tasted. And service is down home hospitality!! Not fancy, just good old homestyle.
waitress was nice. food was great
Overall nice restaurant with good food. Cool atmosphere with great staff. I don't think the pork was smoked which is why I am giving it 4 stars. I thought that was a little disappointing for a bbq place with smokers sitting outside. Good slaw, onion rings, and mac and cheese. More...
Been amazing since I was a kid. Minced with slaw and the vinegar based sauced is totally yummy.
Absolutely LOVE Allman's. Great food. Generous portions. Coleslaw is phenomenal! BBQ is sliced or minced. The sliced deluxe platter has been my go to order for the past 50 years! Great little hole in the wall restaurant. Eat in or take out. You won't be disappointed. Handmade milk shakes are delicious, too. Very generous portion of shake. Great place to meet the locals. More...
Very historic BBQ restaurant. Nice portions.
Only one BBQ sauce. The sauce is unique. It is not a ketchup or vinegar based sauce. Sits on the corner of an intersection so be careful bringing kids there. More...
not been real pleased with Allman's BBQ. However, However, this time has been pleasantly different. My sweetheart and I went and had sandwiches and side orders and drinks and we really loved it. Thank you very much. And the wait staff has always been terrific that's never been a problem. More...
Really great food. The coleslaw is wonderful. I am not a coleslaw person but I was impressed. There bbq was wo wonderful and I love I can put my own sauce on it. They are dog friendly as well and I got to eat outdoor with my dog. More...
5 stars for speed and the double sizes. The burger itself was fine, but it came out super fast after ordering! The fries were delicious and the mac and cheese is top notch (reminiscent of the best gas station mac and cheese you can imagine). Generous wait staff and fun location! Boyfriend loved the BBQ too More...
I had not been to this old Americana family style restaurant in about a decade, but was pleasantly surprised that basically nothing had changed. The traditional southern cooking was evident in my mac and cheese and collard greens! And the pulled pork sandwich was absolutely delicious. Allman's continues to get it right when it comes to American barbecue. If you are visiting Fredricksburg, or even just passing by on I-95, it's definitely worth the stop (just 3 or 4 minutes from the exit ramp). Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and the prices are appealing especially for the quantity you receive. More...
The place has great reviews for a reason. The value is incredible and the BBQ pork is delicious. The atmosphere is right out of 1956, when they opened. The staff were kind and friendly.I'm definitely going back. More...
The Cole slaw was da best!! It was all good food a must
This place is a family tradition. My folks took me there as a child ( even though I didn't like bar-b-q then ). I took my son when he was little. Now he brings his wife and daughter!! Not many places like that around!!! More...
My pork sandwich was delicious . My wife raved about the cole slaw. If we're ever back in the area we'll come after 3p so as to get some ribs!
I have been eating Allmans Barbecue for over 50 years and it's the best I have ever tasted . I live near Mechanicsville VA and try to get to Allmans at least monthly. A 50 mile drive is worth it.
Stacy Alvarado Patton
We enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Our waitress didn't check on us as much as we would have liked to refill our drinks or ask us if everything was okay, but overall good experience.
This place is amazing!! I came here as a child, I came here dating my highschool sweetheart! And now as an adult, I love the fact that they have minced BBQ for my Mother who has swallowing issues. Great Food, Great Home town Service. Which with the growth of the Fredericksburg area in the last 25 years says a lot!!! More...
Allman's BBQ was one of my favorites growing up in Richmond, VA (They closed about 15 years ago here). Happened upon this Allman's in Fredericksburg and found out it's the same restaurant! Really great BBQ and was happy to be able to enjoy it once again! More...

Support your city, eat local! I've lived in area since 1978. It took me way too long to eat here. They are great people and it's a classic. It will be a sad sad day when we don't have places like Allmans in Fredericksburg. More...
Visiting from PA and wanted BBQ. Friend said "I got it covered." OMG....ribs were finger licking, fall off the bone heaven!! Didn't even need to add the sauce. Sides of green beans and Mac and cheese were plentiful. More...
I've been going there for years NEVER disappointed! Took my 5 year old Grandson yesterday He said it was better then McDonald's! have leftovers Yum ! Always bring home a bottle of sauce ♡ More...
The food is absolutely amazing!!! My children are picky eaters and clean their plate when we go. I wish it was closer to Richmond but it is worth the drive!!
Old original style barbecue restaurant, the boars head hanging over the pit is the original, decades old. Rest rooms around back small dining area, good service. There is usually a takeout queue lined up at the register at lunch time.
The Q is served on traditional small toasted buns and the sauce is a middle North Carolina style, sweet: vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar but not heavily tomato based. Sides are generous and well prepared. Iced tea made from scratch.
This is the Q I grew up eating and is the basis of my own attempts to to make my own. More...
My Husband and I ate here for the first yesterday (4/27/18). We were very pleased with the food and service.
Some of the best pulled pork I have had in a while!! Even the kids enjoyed it and they don’t like anything... hahah
Allmans catered for my wedding! The food was to die for ! They were prompt and friendly and so easy to work with!

Excellent ribs & sauce. Friendly people & vintage vibe. This place was started in 1954 & it is a bit of a time capsule. Unfortunately, the bathrooms may not have been updated (or cleaned?) since then. That's why they lost a star off of my rating. More...
Absolutely delicious!!! We opted to sit at the counter. We both had the pulled pork plate-he had colllard greens & mac n cheese; I had greenbeans and coleslaw. Coleslaw is AMAZING!! Their signature sauce and the brown sugar based sauce is hard to choose from so we opted for both. Save room for one of their delicious milkshakes! Best meal we’ve had in a while-thank you!! More...

I have eaten at Allman’s my entire life and love it as much today as I did being a kid! I love that the place has hardly changed, other than the booths being gone... as a kid, that was my Friday night ritual with my parents, such precious memories!! My all time favorite is the sliced deluxe!! Yummy!! More...
I just love thier pullpork and ribs. Slow smokef.
Absolutely amazing. Portion sizes are more than worth the price. I had a half rack of ribs and two sides and could have very easily shared with another person (if I'd wanted to but it was so so soooo good, how could I ) A little stuffy inside so we chose the outside eating area which made for a really nice meal. I would much rather spend $30 here for two people and leave full than the $60 I spent the other night for us to leave Texas Roadhouse and be hungry two hours later. We will be going back! More...
Great service, mouth watering food, lack of good parking but worth coming in any day new favrite resturant
Yet to be disappointed!
Great chopped sandwich with slaw and mac and cheese.
Huge portions, great menu, awesome prices, and a great staff. The place is well decorated and gives the diner feeling you don't see in chain restaurants. Get a milk shake to finish it. You can easily get here off 95 and 1 and this is the kind of place locals know about but tourists should stop at. Having grown up in NC, I am picky about BBQ and they get it right here. More...
Texas-style barbecue is becoming a plague. Thank goodness there are still places like Allman's, still doing barbecue in the traditional Virginia style. I stopped for lunch, and went for the minced pork platter with beans and slaw. The pork was great. Moist and delicious. Slaw was excellent. And beans were great. The portions were tremendous! So big, that I had to skip the post-lunch milkshake. Ah well. Thanks, Allman's. It was great to be back again after so long. More...
Very yummy. This place has the best pulled pork burgers!
Quaint little BBQ shack... Decent pork BBQ. Sauce is a little sweet. Good coleslaw, beans need a kick but good. Nice waitress.
Fast, excellent service and great food all at decent prices. We will definitely be returning soon!
Friendly & Knowledgeable Service, great ambiance of days gone by.
I've lived in Fredericksburg for the majority of my life and this is my favorite place to eat. The BBQ with coleslaw and fries is the best way to go but they have tons of options. You also can't leave without getting a milkshake (best in town). The staff is great and takes the time to make sure you are taken care of. The restaurant has a good feel to it especially when you look around and see all the old pictures on the wall. Highly recommend Allman's whether you're grabbing lunch by yourself or going with a group of people. More...
Friendly staff. Large portions. Very good food and sauces.
This place has been here forever, best BBQ and great food. Friendly help.
Pulled pork as perfect and leftovers for breakfast tomorrow.
A local institution.
Good food and service
Best BBQ in VA
Old-school bbq joint. Pulled pork sandwich reminded me a bit of Bill's bbq (closed) in Richmond; sauce similar but a little more sweet & sandwiches definitely bigger. Good example of VA Q with flavor from sauce & slaw, not just smoky meat. Shakes looked terrific. Good service. Will revisit. More...
Always great tasting BBQ ... Yummy!
Great place for lunch
Greatest BBQ on Earth, love that sauce
The staff was very friendly and helpful. When it comes to the food they provided more than enough for a serving. The chicken was tasteful and the pork was not bad either. The sides were delicious, especially the potato salad and the mac and cheese. Overall it was a good experience. I would highly recommend it if you're looking for something good and local (family business). Don't expect a fancy restaurant, but good food and warm southern hospitality. More...
Not bad I have had better. Good service ample portions.
Good folks and good food. Worth the trip.
Best food in town!
Great comfort food!
Arrived about 6:30pm Oct 9th. Asked for outside seating as it was really nice out. I ordered the Bar-B-Q platter, pulled pork piled high, cole slaw, enough for 2, and mac & cheese and a toasted bun on the side. ALL were excellent. I managed to finish the pork but not the sides. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw, home made baked beans and delicious, crinkle cut fries. We shared all sides and still took home some. This is a few minutes off I-95 and well worth it. Saw a lot of satisfied customers. More...
Great food, great people
Love this place. Has not changed since the first time we have been in 2012. This is one of our favorite BBQ places.
Old time Pulled Pork BBQ thats just pretty darn good, I'm passing through from Austin so if I say good it is, Also the portions size are worth the price. Well worth the trip as I live in the Washington DC area and will drive down again and again More...
It was ok .... not my first choice for next time but it was ok ...
I've lived here all my life and this place is a staple, akin to Carl's ice cream.pulled pork is my favorite!
Clean friendly staff great food alot for what you pay for
Delicious and waiters were kind. Not too expensive either for good food.
The best bbq in the world
Very yummy food and friendly employees.
Just like when I was a kid. Love this place!
Food was very good, price very reasonable and the service fantastic!
Stopped in by referral and it did not disappoint. The portions are generous with tasty food and fast. Small local place and one I can tell is a local favorite... was actually recommended by a local. More...
Great food and huge portions. Fine friendly service. A Fredericksburg institution since 1954. Can't miss with Allmans.
Just as good as it was when I was astudent at Mary Washington , 38 years ago.
Great BBQ and friendly wait staff.
Great food, nice staff. Would recommend!
Great food, quaint environment. Old and small, don't let the appearance fool you. It's one of those dives that warrants many return visits.
Great food! Service was very good and had a great atmosphere. Would recommend Allman's BBQ to anyone!!
Tasting food and bottled beer. Very fast service.
Best bbq chicken i have ever had.
Simply great BBQ. Low energy environment, but very courteous staff. Please try the mac n cheese! Oddly enough... the ice cream was phenomenal as well!! Let's eat!

The ribs will improve everything about your day! They are so good!
Simple yet great BBQ. I got the Ribs to go along with the hushpuppies and coleslaw. First the Ribs were packaged in foil to lock in the juices, and there was a lot of juice. Had to get a towel to eat off of even lol. The BBQ sauce was on the side which was perfect. The sauce has a great flavor...not spicy... and I usually like hot BBQ. The meat fell off the bone with ease and I just dipped into the sauce. The coleslaw has a nice vinegar flavor along with something that made it slightly creamy not sure what but it was great. Then the hushpuppies are best when dipped into their Virginia vinegar sauce. Overall this place has some great BBQ and is well worth checking out. More...
The food was good, the customer service was phenomenal. Christine rushed the kids food out quick and was so friendly.
Consistently good food
Delicious, unfiltered, and classic. This diner style BBQ joint is a must visit if you stop in town. The food is astonishingly good and the portions are formidable, and the service is down-home sweet. Come hungry!
Best local BBQ in Fredericksburg, been around for generations. It's unique, hard to find anything else like it around the country. If you're headed through town it's worth stopping. More...
Awesome food. Wonderful little hole in the wall joint.
Staff is ridiculously kind. Food is amazing.
Perfect pulled pork sandwich, delicious slaw. Love the sauce!
Excellent pull pork bbq and milkshakes.
This is a must try when coming through or stopping fredericksburg! BBQ sandwiches are amazing! Cole slaw was good! And service was awesome! The talk is true about Allmans!
Decent bbq in a real throwback feel.
Absolutely soul satisfying food
It's like a trip back in time with more BBQ than you can eat in one sitting.
Really charming place, very friendly people, and great barbecue, too. I had the classic--pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw--but I'll go back to try out the ribs.
A STAPLE of the Fredericksburg area. Delicious BBQ and unique honey mustard cold slaw.
Kat-astrophe the Wicked Wench of the East
Fast and friendly service and the sandwich was good.
Talk about going back in time. Love the food and the place looks like it hasn't changed from the day it was open. This is one of those well hidden gems that the locals know about. Don't judge this book by its cover. Try for yourself. More...
Best BBQ, has not changed since I went there as a kid.
Great everything! A must stop if you're in the Burg.
The food and the service were great!
Everyone was nice and service was good. The food reminded me of my grandma's cooking, "great"
Great customer service...
Some of the best around, well worth a stop
Great food--. Part of the Culture of Fredericksburg. Just like it was when I was a kid. Excellent service, great price you won't leave hungry or broke like most places. Step back into the past everyone if you haven't experienced it you should. More...
Great barbecue place. Served me vinegar with my collard greens the way it's supposed to be. It's no wonder this place has been in business so long!
Great food and friendly staff! A nice little local business with indoor and outdoor seating.
Great food. Great service.
A good barbecue place. They have really good onion rings and the coleslaw is some of the best I've ever had.
Nice and cozy BBQ spot to take a break for lunch or takeout. I like their portions, the chicken BBQ platter was filling. I look forward to going tomorrow for some ribs More...
Still going strong after 1 bazillion years.
Best barbecue in Virginia. Been coming here for over 50 years. Keep up the good work!
Great minced pork sandwich, coleslaw was great.
Enjoyed the sliced pork, fries, beans, and slaw. The meat was nicely smoked and tender. The beans, while good, were fairly ordinary. A high spot on the plate was the Coleslaw. This was obviously homemade and done quite well. There are two excellent sauces. It is a pretty classic BBQ in a quaint hole-in-the-wall restaurant. I'll be back. More...
Food was outstanding
Great BBQ and sides at great prices. Some highbrow folks might take a second look, given the small venue in a not-the-most-attractive-tract on Route 1, but don't worry about the atmosphere...you want to be here for the FOOD, which is outstanding. Don't pass this one by! More...
Rex's favorite barbecue place for over 30 years.
Wonderful! BBQ was great with the Cole slaw yum!! Will be back!
Great food! A must!
My husband and I went in today for BBQ sandwiches and Ribs. Delicious! Loved them. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys a great BBQ sandwich.
The pulled pork is tender and the house sauce is nice and tangy. Kind of a thick, slightly spicy Carolina-style, is how I would describe it. The service made me feel right at home. More...

It's BBQ. You either love the way someone else does it or you don't. I'd spend my money at Allman's again.

It's a little hole in the wall place, but the food is "fine". Ask for the sweet barbeque sauce. Portions are big so be prepared to take some things home. The coleslaw is very good.
This is must see in Fredericksburg. We go out of our of way to stop here every time we pass thought, mostly for the pork barbecue sandwiches.
Been a long time since we stopped here. Food and atmosphere was still great.
One of the best BBQ place in Virginia
