We used to love Alessi‘s bakery. Until yesterday. We brought home my favorite dessert from there, crème brûlée bread pudding. It wasn’t until after we ate half of it that we discovered there was a giant patch of mold on the remaining half. Called the bakery to complain and they advised their food is made fresh daily. Drove down today as we do not live close and showed the giant patch of mold on the bakery item. They did refund our money but they were pretty nonchalant and indifferent about the fact that they were selling moldy products and we had ingested one of their moldy products. I would love to be able to leave a review of the cake we wanted, but we were unable to order as the order system said we are out of the delivery radius. This was after checking our zip code and it showing a $20 delivery charge. After ordering a cake from another bakery my wife had called to check and was told they did deliver to our address, but it was $40 and not $20, she said the website is normally wrong. I was craving very specific sweets while visiting my friend and he couldn't figure out where to take me to get them -- but then it was like Eureka! I've Got it! He finally thought of this place towards the end of my trip. So we came here and tried lots of different things. Unfortunately I was already full before we got here so we were limited on how much we could try once we got here, but we did manage to get some red velvet cake and some cookies that were on sale. I came here to order the Cronut - and it did not disappoint. Flaky and not stale and perfectly fluffy yet solid at the same time. Not too much glaze but just enough. A glazed doughnut on steroids. Not in the mood to cook this week.  So on my way home from work,​ I went to Alessi bakery.  I purchased a Cuban​ sandwich​ which was enough for dinner and lunch the next day.  Plenty of meat, Mayonaise​, ​and mustard with just a few pickles.  Not the best Cuban sandwich I have had but, will do.The apple square with the white frosting was ok not really enough apples in the treat.I have not tried the red velvet with cheesecake​.  But, the colors really drew me to this treat.Staff was extremely​ helpful fast and friendly. I came across this location by turning down the wrong street. I have had Alessi desserts before without disappointment but today called for a cuban sandwich and fries.  Made fresh to order and you can gawk at the dessertswhile you wait which basically means you will buy something else! They got me...the Snickerdoodle cookie made me wanna slap myself! Lawd it was the perfect blend of soft with crispy edges. I ate it before I made it to the car only to discover that I had delicious hot fries and a sandwich made to perfection. Alessi Bakery made a cake for my sons 2nd birthday. We had a construction vehicle theme going on and it was hard finding anyone to do this type of cake. We even went to Publix which was a crap shoot, and really should not be allowed to make cakes for people. But Alessis blew it out of the water. The cake was almost identical to what we showed them, if not even better. We were so happy and our son and guests could not believe the way the cake looked, it was amazing! A beloved Tampa bakery that's been open over a hundred years.Visited on 6-16-19 at 3pm. $4.44 got us one cupcake and a coconut macaroon. Service was fast and friendly! The macaroon wasn't toasted very well...maybe not cooked long enough? It was really greasy and sugary. Not my favorite but edible. My child who has a mouth full of sweet tooths took 2 bites of his cupcake and declared he was full.I couldn't get a feel for what type of bakery this is...they seem to cater to all genres of baked goods. Italian cookies, Hispanic favorites, soul food goodies, caucasian girl Instagram cupcakes...they had it all. They have cold sicilian pizza which comes pre-sliced in a box and apparently it's a real hit at parties. I also saw some really cool sampler trays with just a tiny bite of each type of cake they offer. Parking is hectic (traffic has changed in the last 100 years lol) and it's a bit dark inside. We ordered our cake for 200 people from Alessi and it was soooo good! We had a tiered cake that was chocolate with Nutella mousse and a sheet cake that was lemon with coconut mousse. Having the sheet cake be about half of the cake served was a huge budget saver and we were glad they were able to prepare the cakes that way. Both cakes were absolutely delicious! I'm a Miami native, so stumbling upon a Cuban bakery right down the road from my place had me ecstatic. We happened to come in late one evening as we'd seen the sign driving by and got curious. There were workers inside but they weren't open. A real friendly employee came out and explained the hours and offerings to us. We saw her the following morning for our planned breakfast run, and she took care of us. Didn't catch her name but she was very patient with our long order. Decided on a multitude of their offerings, some of which I posted a photo of. My favorite by far was the creme brûlée bread pudding. The guava and cheese pastry is much like the Miami pastelitos I'm used to. They also had Cuban bread which was a blessing to find. We grabbed a mojo pork sub for lunch later which was delicious. I would not recommend them For a place to go if you are wanting a really good Cuban sandwich. I haven’t eaten here in years and I was sadly disappointed by the lack of meat I paid for in the large Cuban sandwich. I took a pic however I don’t believe I will be able to post it but I will try. I usually go to Brocardo’s Cuban sandwich shop located off of 50th St. in Tampa for a really good Cuban sandwich. They sandwiches are always loaded w/meat regardless the size and taste so good for the same price if not cheaper than this place. I also tried their potato salad although it did taste good it also was very salty I was disappointed. I suggest they just stick to desserts. $14 down the drain. More...
