I'm a photographer and did a wedding there this summer for a couple and the facility is crazy! It has everything that you could need for events and for your stay. They had beautiful places on-site near the shore for the ceremony and the reception! It's all there! You'll love it! More...

We were married here over the weekend and stayed Friday, Saturday, and left Sunday afternoon. The area is beautiful! We stayed in the largest house; the rooms are large and pretty sound proof. There is a bridal suite and a man cave as well. It’s right on the water and they provide a couple of peddle boats. More...

The perfect winter wedding location! Views of Denali Peak across the snow covered lake from two story floor to ceiling windows wowed our out of state guests. We were able to bring in our own caterer, decorations, and use the dock for vows. Two sweeping staircases, either side of the deck offered options for the bride to walk down the aisle in style. The outside features a multilevel deck and one area has two fire pits under a covered area which extended our party space. The large front deck was perfect for overhead drone photos! It's legal to shoot fireworks here and so they let us do that off the frozen lake. Wow!
And, there is a lodge you can rent. It's just 100' away and sleeps 24. Jacuzzi tubs, all the kitchen equipment and dishes you need for a fun weekend! We could not be more satisfied with this venue. Exceptional!

Our family of 5 went to Alaska for a long overdue vacation, 10 years since our last.
We decided to stay in a home rather than a hotel, picking the house at Big Lake was the best decision of the entire vacation. We felt like we were at home but on holiday. The house was immaculate with all the amenities anyone could desire. Each room was large with views and it's own bathroom, laundry on the first floor, large kitchen fully stocked with utensils, all you need is food and a good cook. We stayed over the 4th of July weekend while the sun was up for 20 hours a day maximizing our fun time. The owners were very helpful and kind, down to earth people. Centrally located allowed us to take off to our adventures north or south and feel like we were returning home while still on vacation. Large family reunions would be perfectly suited for the Big Lake home, plenty of room for everyone. Plenty of fun for all. We will definitely be staying there the next time we return to Alaska. Thank you again for a wonderful trouble-free hassle-free stay. More...

Our Stay-cation Getaway at Sunset View Resort||||||Last month my Mother came to visit. I wanted to do something nice for her while she was here – something Alaskan! ||||Coming from Mississippi, a place with a beauty all it’s own, I knew she would appreciate being able to spend time with her grandsons in a place that captured the most picturesque Alaska…|| ||Many come to Alaska with some expectation of igloos and polar bears. Instead, they are surprised, and maybe a little comforted, by familiar fast-food chains and super-stores. As a Wasilla resident, I sometimes feel like my day-to-day life is anything but Alaskan, as I go about my routine. Working, shopping, raising kids… ||||So, I took my mother and sons to Big Lake, to the Sunset View Resort!||||Not far from my own home in Wasilla, I declared ‘Stay-cation’ from my demanding profession and took my Mama to Alaska. We stayed in the Cedar House – one of the resort options at Sunset View. It’s beautiful, and comfortable - really, really comfortable. Placed a stone’s throw from the lake, with a huge picture window stretching across that side of the house! Through the huge windows, we were treated to a magnificent view of the lake, of the mountains to which we owe our Valley, and in the distance, floating like a cloud… Denali.||||The family size hot tub was a great way to enjoy the view, while my sons splashed about like the salmon in the nearby water. ||||It was Alaska Chic.|| ||In what seemed like moments from my son Isaac first casting his line off the nearby pier, he caught a small lake trout! Meanwhile, through those big picture windows, my mother and I watched the whole thing – his joy, his reward!||||My son Seth didn’t catch anything, and he looked super-cool while doing so.|| ||In contrast to the instant access to Alaskan nature, I helped the boys fillet their catch and cooked it up in the gourmet kitchen; completely set up, everything you might need to make delicious meals. For my mother and I, this was fitting. She taught me to cook, and I still enjoy cooking as an adult - although it was nice that she took on the cooking duties while I splashed in the hot tub, paddleboated and fished with my sons. ||||As a personal highlight to my stay-cation experience, I had a birthday. I turned 36 years old on August 28. My mother made a birthday cake while I went to the movies with my two best friends – my sons - to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I might as well have been 12 years old again.|| ||Did I mention that there were balloons? And streamers, and other stuff that mothers do?||||Overall, our experience at Sunset View Resort was exactly what our family needed. We didn’t need an Alaskan adventure. We needed an Alaskan getaway – and that’s what we got.||||I’m so grateful to Kathy and Newell Glines, the down-to-earth owners/operators of this swank resort. They were quick to respond to our requests, welcoming, and generally nice. ||||My goal was to give my mother and myself, along with my sons, a chance to create some precious memories, and we did. ||||It was emotional. There was plenty of space for the wedding party to get ready and guests to hang out. I did my sister's hair and makeup and the salon was wonderful, though it isn't equipped with anything but a chair and mirror (which were perfect for our purposes). We were able to cook and serve both the rehearsal and reception at the resort. (It is a bit of a drive if you forget any ingredients.) You can easily find expensive places to stay, or dine, in Alaska. It is harder to find one that measures up to the value. The Sunset View Resort, happily, is such a place . My husband and I chose to spend our tenth wedding anniversary in their Bridal/Master suite and it was a quality experience on every level, especially considering that this was in the 'off' season. The views are indeed stunning, the entire property faces Denali and the setting sun, with Big Lake in the foreground. ||Also on the property is a delightful restaurant, the Boathouse, with a small but perfectly varied menu. The cook seemed a little slow perhaps, but the food was worth the wait; every time. That time passed pleasantly because the restaurant sits at the very edge of the lake, a wall of windows taking full advantage of the view.||All facilities were spotless and in good repair. (a plus, I've been shocked at the 'high end' places that don't keep things working and serviceable).||We are not used to the 'bed and breakfast' routine, preferring the independence and privacy of hotels, but the owners are lovely people who have obviously invested their lives and their hearts here and it was nice to chat with them about their beautiful estate. I recently went and checked out this resort while I was visiting a friend in Wasilla. It is gorgeous! There was a fire recently so the owner rebuilt the resort and did an outstanding job. Her attention to detail was truly amazing. She gave us a tour of the McKinley View. It's got 10 rooms and they all had queen or king beds with jacuzzi bathtubs, except one that had a walk-in shower with two shower heads. There is also a master suite that faced the lake that was spacious and had lots of windows to take in the view. (We got lucky and showed up when most of the rooms were empty so we got to see most of them.)||||There is also a great room with an enormous fireplace and nooks for reading or playing games, and a large kitchen and dining area that is very well equipped. That's what makes the place feel homey. There's also a 6 bedroom house and a 3 bedroom house on the property that I didn't get to see, but I understand that the 6 bedroom house also has a banquet room. Hmmm. When my daughter gets married, this could be the place. (No rush, honey!)||||My friend and I also ate at the new restaurant and were happy with our lunches. I was thrilled to find calamari steak, which I had with a generous salad. My friend had the crab cakes and thought they were great. The owner said she recently brought the chef here to Alaska from New Orleans, which explains the yummy seasoning used on my calamari steak and the delicious crab cakes.||||My husband and I will definitely come back here for a mid-winter getaway. The Northern Lights are supposed to be exceptional this year, so this will be a perfect place to catch them if we're lucky enough to get some clear night skies. Even if we do nothing but be lazy and hang out and eat well at the on-site restaurant, I'll be happy! More...

My hubby surprised me last weekend with an overnight getaway in a room at the McKinley home for us and our baby. Being new parents, we rarely get out or get a good nights rest. We drove out from Anchorage and I was pleased to arrive at such a beautiful place. It was not what I expected. The room was exceptionally clean and looked brand new. We had a king bed and walk-in shower with double showerheads. Our room had blackout shades which allowed us to sleep in a little longer. We had fun teaching our baby to climb all the way up the stairs, where there is a "watch tower" that offers beautiful views of the lake and a quiet place to sit and rest. The weather was horrible that weekend, so we just lounged around in our room most of our stay. We did manage to brave the rain and visit the Boathouse restaurant that is in the next building on site. The restaurant is right on the lake and has a cool atmosphere with tall ceilings and big windows. I had the Rockfish Sliders, which I absolutely loved and splurged on a Chocolate Pate dessert, that I've never heard of before and that was to die for! ||I wish we could have spent more time outside during our visit, but look forward to coming back. Hopefully I can surprise my husband in the summer for our anniversary. More...
