The day we moved, we learned that our queen size box spring would not fit up the stairs. We were exhausted and I just wanted to sleep in my own bed. I called around to a couple different places and no one was able to get us a box spring that day - until al mart. Hidden Gem. Owners helpful, knowledgeable, nice and with great business ethics. A lot is custom order (at great) prices, so not a big showroom with actual samples on floor, but trust their knowledge and helpfulness. We were so pleasantly surprised with this place. Just purchased a Couch for my Mother from Al-Mart (selected from their Online Catalog) and every single part of the transaction was great. I only spent about $600 but was treated like I spent a Million. The Couch itself was very nicely built and was a very good deal. I dealt with Barry and later his Brother Alan. The Delivery guys  were also very polite and respectful. Unlike some stores that charge ridiculous delivery fees ($139-$150 for a couch!?!?) Al -Mart only charged $39 which is more than fair. I hate buying furniture, but these guys made it easy and stress free. I like to support  Local businesses but will only do that if they deserve it. I gave Al-Mart a chance and am very glad I did. My wife and I were in search of a dining room table that was well made and actually made of solid wood.   We didn't find anything we liked at multiple stores in the area, but when we chatted with Al; the owner, was able to point us in the right direction as to what we were looking for.  We went with a cherry table from Artisan & Post.  It took a few weeks to receive the table, but we were super happy with the product after receiving it.  Nice cherry wood, and the table and chairs have a nice heft to them. I called about 8 different places with a simple request: a bunk bed with mattress to be delivered ASAP. It also seemed as though everyone I spoke to didn't want to take the time or energy to provide REAL customer service. They sent me to their website, gave vague answers about stock and delivery.Then I spoke to Al, knowledgeable about the different products, upsold me to a better bunk bed and mattress but gave me an added discount (cheaper than all the other quotes) and guaranteed delivery by the weekend.  And it was all done in about 15-20 minutes over the phone! I stumbled upon Al-Mart after searching for a Bunk Bed that I was interested in, Alan (the owner) is one of the nicest people. He is very helpful and really strives to find the best deals for his customers. The only complaint I have is the delivery service. About 6 years ago, on the recommendation of a friend, we purchased a sofa at Al-Mart for our basement TV room.  They had just what we needed: a 3-piece sectional mounted on rails.  In pieces was the only way to get a full-sized sofa down the stairs to the basement.  A few months ago, we decided to replace our queen bed with a king.  I did mattress research using Consumer Reports and other web sites.  In spite of having close access to many mattress superstores and department stores, we decided to start at Al-Mart, right where we live, knowing that it would be less overwhelming to begin there.  It also ended there!  We walked in the door, and Alan greeted us, saying "Welcome back guys. It's nice to see you again."  He remembered us after so much time had gone by.  In 45 minutes we tested several name-brand mattresses.  Alan answered all the questions I had created from my research, and offered us a great price on the mattress we liked the most. (The price was well within the range Consumer Reports had published.)  The price included a new frame, delivery, set-up and removal of the old mattress and frame.  We also got a great deal on a headboard.  We were dreading what we imagined would be a tiring store-to-store-store search for a mattress, dealing with high-pressure sales people.  Instead, we got re-acquainted with this wonderful, helpful, honest, local business owner and purchased a mattress set we absolutely love. Don't let the small size of this store dissuade you.  We were looking for a couch and started at the bigger stores thinking we'd have a bigger selection.  We couldn't find what we wanted so decided to stop in at Al-Mart and I'm so glad we did.  They had exactly what we wanted.  The showroom is small but there are plenty of catalogs and sample fabrics.  We also were able to deal directly with the owner Alan who is very knowledgeable and helpful and doesn't apply any pressure at all.  His prices are in line with bigger stores.  When I can, I prefer to shop local and small because of the personal attention.  We are very pleased and I would highly recommend this store. "Shop local!""Negotiate prices directly with the owner!" "Offer free delivery and free assembly!"  Hubby and I highly recommend "Al-Mart Furniture and Bedding" on the west end of North Avenue in Oak Park.  I found this place via Yelp because we NEEDED a bed (Rosa J. slept in a college library like 5 times a week...the feeling of a real bed wasn't something She has always been longing for).It was time to truly invest a good night sleep, so we started shopping for a bed frame and a quality mattress.  As soon as we walked into the door on a Saturday morning, Alan, the owner, greeted us and took us on the journey of finding our "dream bed."  Alan helped us put things in perspective and "kept it real" with the price range we were looking for.  To be honest, we weren't too concerned with the dollar tag, yet Alan was very genuine, approachable, and made us feel comfortable doing business with him.  Yeah, prince hubby and princess Rosa J. chose the most expensive mattress in the entire store.  The showroom at Al-Mart isn't large, so we picked out an upholstered bed frame from one of the catalogs.  Fortunately, this particular style of bed frame was in stock, so Alan promised us the items would be delivered and assembled by the end of the following week.  On the following Wednesday hubby received a call from Alan and was informed that everything was ready to be delivered.  Two (2) Al-Mart handymen arrived on Friday afternoon at 5:30pm (the estimated time was in between 3pm to 6pm).  Hubby came home early from work so he could stand by.  The assembly was finished within forty-five (45) minutes in a polite, courteous manner.  Then the handymen cleaned up the messes on their own.  The assembly was done "almost" impeccably, except I found a dent, perhaps was caused by a screw that was inserted a bit too far.  Hubby spoke to someone from Al-Mart explaining this discovery, and Alan replied immediately with a phone call asking hubby to send him the picture of the defect spot to his e-mail.  I'm confident that Alan will give us an answer on this "imperfection," which probably won't bother me much.  Hey, it doesn't hurt to ask since everything was bought brand new.We have been satisfied with Alan's service, deal he cut, and his overall promptness.  Check out his store on 7045 W. I'm glad that I remembered what a great experience and great piece of furniture I purchased from Al-Mart almost 10 years ago. Back then I was looking for a fairly simple, but specific dining set for a condo. I couldn't find anything at the big name stores then I stumbled upon Al-Mart (live in the area). It's a small showroom so you'll likely be directed to a catalog which I was a little hesitant about at first, but the piece I bought ten years ago is still sitting in my kitchen - looking and feeling just like it did the day we put it together. Solid wood, good construction...can't beat it! Recently, I was looking for an upholstered bed. They're all the rage right now so you'd think it'd be easy to find the perfect one...nope. Three stores and several websites later we were about to take our chances by ordering online when I looked in my kitchen and remembered Al-Mart! Once again, we were taken straight to the catalog, but for the price and the quality (per my past purchase) it's worth it! We paid almost half the price of a comparable bed at a national retailer and even picked out a few more pieces while we were there. Plus, the delivery and set-up charge was almost half that of another national retailer's delivery only charge. Knowledgeable and courteous. Was not expecting to find my dream couch here but i absolutely am in love with it! Not a large store at all! but the catalogs are great. It may be time consuming to choose your colors and style of couch but i highly recommend this cute store. Delivery was when promised, two days after purchase but i also bought the floor model.
