What an outstanding experience! It has been a dream of mine to record at this studio for several years now, and finally a couple of weekends ago the dream came true! First off, Kathleen is a class act and a pleasure to work with. She is very accommodating and super kind in every way making each client feel important regardless of who they are, and that is saying something since 4th Street has had many superstars in its 'floating' room. The clientele list alone is what first sold me on this studio. The warm sound of some classic albums was captured here and I wanted that sound for my project. 4th Street delivered! There really aren't enough good things I can say about 4th Street Recording Studio. The experience all around was top notch. The engineer, Sutter, was excellent. The equipment was all Class A and you can hear it in the quality of the sound we captured that evening. They had the mics I wanted to use and the mixing board I've always dreamed of recording with. I personally can't wait to return to 4th Street again. Never have I had such a professional and positive recording experience. I will definitely be coming back for more! More...

I had a great experience recording my vocals here last night - Sutter, the engineer, helped me through the difficult portions of the song with great coaching and went above and beyond with fine tuning before we were done. The owner, Kathleen, was super nice and gave me a late night discount for my booking. Thanks for a comfortable, professional vibe 4th St! More...

What an experience it is to record, in the same place where your favorite bands cut their biggest records..For one, the location. The closest studio you can find to the beach in LA. The vibe and energy of this recording studio is exactly what you expect, booking a session in the heart of Santa MonicaThe engineer rocked our session. Knew exactly how to achieve the sound we were looking for, and was ready to work with our gear and material right from the start. All in all, I can't recommend a place more. Put it on your bucket list. 4th Street Recording doesn't disappoint. More...

It's been a few years, but I still smile when I hear the recordings I did at 4th Street. The gear is great, the vibe is what you imagine a studio in the heyday of recording would be. But the people... are AMAZING. You become family with Kathleen and I developed a real bond with Sejo as well. Lovely part of town to work in. You won't be disappointed and you'll actually have some memories beyond recording. Honestly, just a great great place. More...

I've been to many studios since my review of 4th Street Recorders, but I had to come back here and record again. With Sejo the engineer, I also get a major league producer and mixer all rolled into one. It's an honor to be able to work with him. He saves me money with his ability to quickly edit and mix too.  Great attitude. He's awesome!  Kathleen is wonderful and always a pleasure to work with.  Luv her. More...

4th Street Recording has a single, strong, unified vibe that can't help but make you feel at home. Kathleen, the owner, is a lively soul who is in it for the right reasons, and is incredibly accommodating. The recording studio itself is cozy, with an amazing tracking room, vocal booth, and API console (along with other professional gear). Not to mention it's in downtown Santa Monica, minutes from the beach! Prices are very affordable for what you get. The whole crew rocks, it's been a pleasure to be associated with this family. 4th street recording studio might be the most laid back and amazing recording environment in Los Angeles. You not only get recording on top of the line equipment (priceless microphones) but the prices are totally reasonable. After midnight on weekdays it's awesome to bring a huge group of musicians to jam out for a few hours, then you let the engineer turn you into gods. There's a den upstairs for those musicians recording an album and need to get some shuteye before the next all day session. They have a lot of instruments on site. They have a grand piano which the beach boys used to record kokomo on. Incubus recorded many albums here as well.Plus your right by the promenade. Do some music go to the bar grab a beer come back and do more music. I'll be back. More...

I have been to many studios throughout California, and this is definitely my favorite. Everyone that works there is really friendly and helpful. It is much different than any other studio; it is actually a comfortable place to record music. Every other studio I have been to has been too much like an office and made me feel out of my element. I highly recommend this studio for any artist. More...

When we needed to cut an album without any frills (in other words, without spending a cent more than we had to), we went to 4th Street Recording. I really, really liked the young guys working in there, as they were very chill and down to earth. My guitar player was a total primadonna, which made things tense at times, but they always conducted themselves with dignity in spite of some childish treatment. I really appreciated that.4th Street's claim to fame -- if I'm not mistaken -- is that the Beach Boys cut a lot of their stuff there. I kind of felt like not a lot had been updated (or dusted) since that time, but I could tell that in its heyday, 4th Street must have been a pretty swank little place. For me, though, it was way cramped -- the vocal booth was literally doubling as "the hallway" between the mixing room and the recording room, which made things kind of... unnecessarily complicated. Whatever though, it got the job done. More...
