Delicious, Clean and courteous. The outside looks like an old timey diner, but that's where the similarities end. The minute you walk in your are enveloped in the most delicious smells and spices. The staff is attentive. You're drinks are never empty, your rice is constantly replenished, and the food comes out fresh and hot. Taste is a subjective thing, but if you like Indian food you will be blown away. We like to start with pakoras and samosas. The wife like the chicken bhuna (medium spice). I love the Aloo Gobi (Spicey please). You always get the option to have your dish vegan, so nearly everything can be vegan (if that's your thing).     I can't praise this place enough. I never thought Indian food would be my favorite over Mexican, but it is now. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed. 10 stars!!! More...

This place is a hidden gem in Toledo. Forget about the ambiance you pay for at other places and seek out this incredibly delicious food at Star of India. The Panek Paneer is a godsend and the Chicken Korma is outstanding. The Samosas kick ass too! We've gone several times now. Not only is it good, but it's also consistently good. It's so amazing I asked to talk to the Chef so I could meet the man who's responsible for this culinary genius. I think his wife works there as well, so I'm sure she deserves some next level credit as well. The staff is friendly, the food is sensational. What more could you want? More...

We enjoyed a celebratory double birthday in Toledo, Ohio. Through the years we have had several terrific meals at Star of India. The restaurant is well designed. Our service was five star. The meal started with a crisp salad, a stack of crisp papadum with a small dish of tamarind sauce and another of onion relish. Our chicken tandoor was moist  and perfectly seasoned,  the vegetable curry had just the right spiciness and the saag paneer created a good balance of flavors along with the perfectly prepared rice. The naan was right up there on the five star scale. I don't know what the bill was as we were guests. There was left over food to take home. More...

AMAZING Indian Restaurant in the town!!!!!!!    So my friend and I were in town for the night and we found this place in Yelp and decided to go. First thing you notice is that its a family business and entire family takes a pride in what they do. Our server were Seema and Jesse. The went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed.    Seema recommended Salmon Garlic Masala ( which is not in the menu)  and I must say it was delicious. We also ordered Mix platter Chicken Tikka Masala and for dessert Seema  recommended golden Oreo Cheesecake and everything was simply amazing and fresh specially the Nan. Their prices were amazing for quantity and quality of food. I personally believe that they could charge little more and I would happily pay for it because of the quality of food. Overall, so far the best Indian food I have had in Toledo, Ohio. Its definitely in my top 3 Indian Restaurants for me and i have had Indian food across the US. I will definitely will be back for more no questions asked. More...

The rice is cooked perfectly and Jaspreet was gracious enough to tell us how they make it so perfectly fluffy. My coworkers had the mixed tandoor and matar Paneer. I was in Toledo for the weekend and some friends recommended i stop in and try this place out. They highly recommended it, 1. Because it was excellent Indian food 2. Because of the homemade cheesecake! And 3. Because it was a full on experience being at a diner... It was really cool walking into the former diner now Indian restaurant... i instantly seen the cheesecake and they said they only had a piece each of the flavors I wanted to try. So they said if I wanted they would hold them for me. So even before i sat down i had bought 4 slices of cheesecake!!! Lol!! When I finally got to order and try the food it was amazing! The meat samosas were the best I've personally ever had! They came 2 to an order an had cumin sprinkled on top. It was awesome! They asked what spice level I wanted for my chicken tiki masala... now the Indian restaurants im used to are really heavy handed with the spices!! So I ordered mild. I should've ordered hot. When they came back to ask me about my meal I told them it wasn't as hot as I expected... so they brought me the spice shaker, so I was able to make it as spicy as i needed it! It was perfect!! Then the naan and the rice! It was so good! And they were so nice! I will definitely be back when I'm in Toledo again. Now as for the cheesecake... as a baker, I personally can make better cheesecake, i was expecting more of a dense cheesecake. These aren't very dense. I tasted 3 types. The texture was very soft, almost like a no-bake cheese cake. I was wanting more chocolate from the chocolate brûlée.. and was hoping for a crunch from a sugar topping. The nutter butter was good, Very rich. And the best flavor was the animal cracker, (coming from the white chocolate topping) so my desserts didn't live up to my expectations. Unfortunately. But im a tough critic when it comes to dessert! I love Indian food and travel quite a bit, and I've tried Indian places from Seattle to New York... and yet my favorite of all of them is a converted diner in Toledo, Ohio. The difference for me is that the sauces here are incredible, and their vindaloo (chicken/extra spicy for me) is my favorite of any I've ever had.Entrees run about $15-20 for dinner, but I've always gotten two meals out of it. The naan and rice are both always on point, and the wait staff and ownership is super nice. Fantastic little find in Toledo when I had a hankering for Indian buffet and my usual place (Tandoor, down the street) was inexplicably closed on a Tuesday. (I found out from the people at Star of India that there had been an accident at Tandoor and the owner's wife had been badly burned. Prayers for her and please visit Tandoor when they are open as it is an excellent place, too.)Star of India has an excellent buffet with all the great Indian faves like aloo, paratha bread, basmati rice, spiced lentils, etc. They have vegetarian and vegan options as well as chicken dishes. I also ordered a delicious mango lassi with my meal. I only ate vegetarian, but still managed to stuff myself almost to the point if pain.Hurts so good!I didn't order off the menu, which I'm sure is delicious, because I love the variety (and endlessness!) of the buffet. What's also really cool is the buffet runs until 4pm so there isn't a short window to have to fit into. The place is clean, but not fancy. Plenty of easy parking. Come as you are.
