Meat, Sleep and Drink. This is the place to be. When you sleep, you dream of meat. The 12 bones of baby back is waving at you. What a nice dream to fill the stomach. But still, you need to be here to have full satisfaction of BBQ. We have the blueberry chipotle baby back and the brown sugar dry rub. Both rib are excellent. The brown sugar is my favorite. It has the good sweet and maintained the rib taste. The blueberry chipotle is really a twist with meat fall off the bone. It has great flavor that I have never have it before. Definitely love both of the ribs. The corn pudding side is one of the kind. Love the texture of the food. We also got the slice brisket for the taste. It is just ok. The best of their food definitely is the rib. Food come out quick. Easy to order with number and they bring the food to the table. More...

First time I've been to this location. I got the sliced beef brisket. It was too dry but still ok to eat. My husband got the pulled pork and It was real good. I expected the Mac and cheese to be better than it was. It was good but not as good as what I make. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I gave it a 4 star because of the dry brisket. Damn Delicious! Short wait (about 15 minutes outside) for a tantalizingly delicious plate of ribs and sides. We opted for the Brown Sugar Rub Ribs and they did not disappoint. Tender, meaty, crispy exterior and so flavorful. Sides we loved - sweet potatoes, buttery green beans, corn pudding, and cornbread. Good beer as well - their seasonal was excellent. No messing around here, just great food and hospitable service. More...

This is the first time I've been to the river location. The building is very interesting with graffiti painted on it. I had the sliced brisket which was way too dry. The favor was good but it was too dry. My husband got the pulled pork. He said it was better than the brisket. The Mac and cheese was good by a little disappointing. I expected it to be the baked kind with cheddar cheese. The corn pudding was really good. Overall it was a very fun meal. More...

We did the take out after 4. The brisket was tender and pulled pork was good. The ribs were a little dry and chewy. The cheesy jalapeño grits were fantastic, along with the corn pudding. Overall we enjoyed our meal and would recommend trying them out. The beer from the connected brewery was unique but good. More...

Hands down my very favorite BBQ restaurant anywhere! When we visit AVL, a trip to 12 Bones is a must. The smoked turkey is my favorite meat choice and my husband says the pulled pork sandwich is the best he has ever had. The sides are amazing - the corn pudding is my favorite! Doesn't get any better than this! More...

The traditional ribs were in my top 3 all time behind Rendezvous, and The Salt Lick. The sides were honestly just ok. Nothing to write home about, but I was there for the meat. Needed no sauce, but the sauce complemented the ribs nicely. Not a fan of the mustard, or hot. Served R/C cola and Cheerwine out of the tap! Never have I seen that anywhere which was cool. If you’re in the area, you have to try the ribs. More...

you better get here at 11 in order to avoid the LONG LINES! The hogzilla is a sandwich with sugar bacon, bratwurst, pulled pork, and pepper jack cheese. So of course this was going to be a bit greasy, but still delicious nonetheless. The damn good corn pudding was sweet and pillowy and I can understand how it's a main staple here! The jalapeño cheese grits were delicious, but standard. More...

This place can be difficult to get into with their limited hours, but well worth it. Everyone here is very nice and answers your questions without a hint of annoyance(because I am sure the 5 people before me asked the same question). They have a great variety of items to choose from. I had the 12 bones, which you can 6 bones of ribs in 1 sauce and the other 6 bones in a different sauce. I had the chipotle blueberry sauce and the brown sugar rub. Both were delicious, but the chipotle blueberry sauce was awesome. So great that I bought a bottle of it to take home. They also had a few sauces out next to the fountain drinks and their vinegar sauce is also delicious, so I bought a bottle of that as well. The only negative on the ribs was they are a bit hard to pull apart. But I realize I am spoiled, because my husband makes ribs at home for us and always pulls the thin membrane off the back that really holds them together. For sides I had the corn pudding and baked beans. The side portions are huge, far more than any other restaurant we went to. The baked beans were about what I expected but the corn pudding was really delicious. I can see why everyone was saying to try it and buying their cookbook on the way out for the recipe.Overall a great meal, and the only meal that I had to buy the sauces from. And they have cheerwine in the fountain drinks, so definitely my kind of place. More...

Was intimidated by the somewhat long line but well worth the 15min not-bad wait. I got a sampler and was in heaven. I can't say much more that hasn't been said in other reviews but this place and the arts district it resides in are definitely worth heading to!

12 bones was quite good. They had great speedy service, high quality sauces and a great funky feel befitting the river arts district. We ordered the chopped brisket which wasn't exactly what we envisioned. It is finely chopped and resembles more of a sloppy joe barbecue sandwich consistency. The pulled pork was good but lacked the depth of flavor found in some other great bbq places. Overall we'd definitely go back and would check out some of their other options. More...
