DH Landscape Solution

DH Garden Centre/DH landscape Solution is a local family-run garden centre and landscaping service based in Vancouver, led by Darrell Smith, a practical gardener with over 25 years of hands-on gardening and landscaping experience. We help Vancouver homeowners create and maintain healthy, beautiful, realistic gardens that actually suit our local climate including wet winters, shade, drainage issues, compact soil, moss, and small urban spaces. Darrell’s approach is honest and practical: the right plant in the right place, good soil first, and no unnecessary work or upselling. Before recommending plants or landscaping work, he looks carefully at your light, soil, drainage, space, and maintenance needs so you do not waste money on plants or designs that will fail later. Our services include garden consultations, small garden makeovers, planting, soil improvement, mulching, lawn care, pruning, hedge trimming, vegetable garden setup, and regular garden maintenance. What makes us different is that we do not just “do the job” we help you understand your garden. Many customers come to us because they feel confused about what to plant, why plants are struggling, or how to make their outdoor space look beautiful without becoming too much work. Darrell explains things clearly and gives practical advice you can trust. If you want a garden that looks good, grows properly, and fits real life in Vancouver, we would be happy to help.

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most is helping people understand their garden and make the right choices for their space. Every garden is different the light, soil, drainage, shade, and how the family uses the space all matter. I enjoy turning confusing or tired outdoor areas into healthy, practical, beautiful gardens that can actually grow well in Vancouver’s climate.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Our business started from a real love of plants, gardens, and helping people grow what they love. I has spent more than 25 years working hands-on with gardens, plants, soil, and landscaping. Over time, we saw that many homeowners were buying the wrong plants, using the wrong soil, or feeling unsure about how to care for their outdoor spaces. We wanted to create a local business where customers could get honest, practical advice not just a quick service. That is why we started DH Garden Centre and our landscaping service: to help Vancouver homeowners build gardens that are beautiful, healthy, and realistic for their space.

Why should our clients choose you?

Clients should choose us because we focus on doing what is right for the garden, not just what looks good for one day. We look carefully at your soil, light, drainage, plant choices, and maintenance needs before recommending a solution. Our approach is honest, practical, and local to Vancouver’s climate. We can help with garden consultations, planting, soil improvement, mulching, pruning, hedge trimming, lawn care, vegetable gardens, small garden makeovers, and regular maintenance. Our goal is to help you avoid costly mistakes and create a garden that grows well, looks good, and fits your real life.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

Yes. We can provide remote garden advice by reviewing photos and videos of your garden, lawn, plants, soil, and problem areas. This is helpful for early-stage advice, plant selection, basic troubleshooting, and giving a general idea of what may be needed. For accurate landscaping estimates, design decisions, drainage issues, or larger projects, an in-person visit is usually recommended.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

We respect each customer’s comfort level and can keep communication simple and safe. When needed, we can discuss the project by phone, email, photos, or video before visiting. For in-person visits, we can meet outdoors, keep a respectful distance, and avoid unnecessary indoor contact. We also keep tools and work areas clean and aim to make the process comfortable for each homeowner
