I’ve been to this garden centre a couple of times to browse. While it doesn't have the massive inventory of a giant commercial nursery, its real strength is the customer experience. The gentleman who works there is incredibly friendly, kind, and genuinely customer-oriented, with a very laid-back attitude. He actually listens to what you're looking for and tries to deliver.They pack a lot of pottery, supplies, and plants into the indoor store and the area out back. Because it’s a cozy space, it can be easy to miss things, so it’s best to just strike up a conversation and ask for what you need, the gentleman there is a great conversationalist.While the standard selection of annuals is modest, I was surprised to find some unique variegated annuals here that I haven't seen anywhere else in the city. Awesome little garden store crammed with a great selection of houseplants, home and garden supplies (including woven natural-fiber baskets and beautiful pots of all shapes and sizes), plus a variety of vegetable and flower seeds, garden tools, fertilizers and high-quality soils and potting media. What do you love most about your job?
What I love most is helping people understand their garden and make the right choices for their space. Every garden is different the light, soil, drainage, shade, and how the family uses the space all matter. I enjoy turning confusing or tired outdoor areas into healthy, practical, beautiful gardens that can actually grow well in Vancouver’s climate.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Our business started from a real love of plants, gardens, and helping people grow what they love. I has spent more than 25 years working hands-on with gardens, plants, soil, and landscaping. Over time, we saw that many homeowners were buying the wrong plants, using the wrong soil, or feeling unsure about how to care for their outdoor spaces. We wanted to create a local business where customers could get honest, practical advice not just a quick service. That is why we started DH Garden Centre and our landscaping service: to help Vancouver homeowners build gardens that are beautiful, healthy, and realistic for their space.

Yes. We can provide remote garden advice by reviewing photos and videos of your garden, lawn, plants, soil, and problem areas. This is helpful for early-stage advice, plant selection, basic troubleshooting, and giving a general idea of what may be needed. For accurate landscaping estimates, design decisions, drainage issues, or larger projects, an in-person visit is usually recommended.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We respect each customer’s comfort level and can keep communication simple and safe. When needed, we can discuss the project by phone, email, photos, or video before visiting. For in-person visits, we can meet outdoors, keep a respectful distance, and avoid unnecessary indoor contact. We also keep tools and work areas clean and aim to make the process comfortable for each homeowner
