Q&As

What I love about being a Therapist is that I get to be instrumental in helping people discover their unique abilities to overcome life challenges. I believe everything we need is within and all we need is a kind and gentle person to guide us on a journey of self discovery. Empowering people to be the born leaders of their own life and learning to understand their pattern of destructive behaviour and how to change it is paramount to having enriched relationships and fulfilling our true potential. Seeing people grow and transform is the most rewarding experience life can offer. We cannot take anything material with us when we depart this planet, however we maybe able to take our memories and experiences.

What inspired me to be self employed is that I have worked both public and private and love the flexibility to manage my own schedule and be able to live the lifestyle I choose. As a therapist, life can be stressful and a major component of self care is being able to reduce contact hours when needed and working for my self allows me more autonomy and control over my own time.

I have lived, I have overcome and I have trained and remain a student of life and the profession. I believe when a client chooses to work with me, i offer a free 30 minute consultation to ensure we are a match for each other. to be able to provide the best I can to what a person may be searching for.

Yes, we provide onlije zoom call sessions. In fact we would prefer to conduct these online sessions as long as the client has a safe, private and confidential space with their own for extra privacy and connection.

In Western Australia we have a very safe and secure COVID-19 state. However, we provide hand sanitiser and the option to do your sessions online through zoom.

Richards Trauma Process:

TRTPâ„¢ is a distinct therapeutic process that does not compare to any of the traditional stand-alone therapies. This is why it is so effective with the right people, who are ready to take responsibility and be the change agent instead of wanting someone else to change them. Although called The Richards Trauma Process, this therapeutic process is excellent for eliminating the emotional triggers that cause a variety of psychological states. I use this for all clients who are able to meet the requirements essential to participate. In this process, you are doing the work and I am guiding you through it. You take responsibility for your own wellbeing.

Although at Triumph Over Trauma I may use Cognitive, Behavioural or Emotional Focused Therapy, Solution Focused and Brief Therapy interventions, this will be only when your specific issues call for it.

TRTP™ makes use of deep imagination. Deep imagination is used in order to deal with trauma where it is stored – in the subconscious and in the body. (Levine van der Kolk, Rothschild, Ogden).

TRTPâ„¢ is in alignment with the two requirements stated by van der Kolk, Levine and other trauma experts:

For trauma to be resolved:
1. The person must (somehow) be moved to an empowered position in regard to the trauma.
2. The body must (somehow) know that the event / events are over and it is safe.

TRTP™ is an eclectic approach utilising a range of interventions in a very safe and supportive process. The TRTP is person centred and is only conducted when you are ready to take full responsibility for your own wellbeing. It is a comprehensive, step-by-step process which resolves trauma-related issues – anxiety, depression, fears, and phobias. It achieves results quickly, effectively, and safely – generally in three x 2 hour sessions.

The process is structured using segments of Gestalt, Mindfulness, Ego-state Therapy, Choice Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Parts Therapy, Emotion-focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dream Rehearsal Therapy and others as deemed necessary for each individual allowing space for individual clients’ needs to be met.

TRTP™ initially deals with the underlying, unconscious core beliefs (UCB’s) which keep a person stuck in patterns of thought, emotion and behaviour. In dealing with this at the beginning of the process, self-sabotage is avoided during the following therapy.

TRTPâ„¢ then takes the emotional charge from the past, moving the client to a place of empowerment in relation to the trauma. Because deep imagination is used, the therapist can then speak directly to the body and to the unconscious. The client is shifted from fight/flight/freeze and moved to an empowered, self-regulated state. The sympathetic nervous system is calmed. The memory of the trauma is placed firmly in the past.

The client quickly moves from their state of fight, flight, freeze – ‘I’m not safe!’ To, ‘It’s over. I’m safe now…’ Calm returns, on all levels. Symptoms cease.

TRTPâ„¢ does not merely address the symptoms of trauma. It deals with the underlying cause of the problem, removing the emotional charge from the past and returning the person to a state of empowerment, returning the sympathetic nervous system to calm.
