Absolutely appalled by the experience I’ve had with Newcastle Roofing Professionals. After six months of being strung along, misled, and ignored, I’ve been informed that my roofing job—which I paid $22,000 for upfront—has been cancelled due to internal mismanagement and oversights that should have been identified from the beginning. The worst part? I only found this out after chasing them down repeatedly with unanswered calls and emails, while my home sat exposed to the elements over winter. During this time, my wife was diagnosed with aggressive cancer and started chemotherapy. I also have a 3-year-old and run a business. I simply didn’t have the bandwidth to chase a company that clearly doesn’t respect its clients or their time. Not once did I receive a call from someone with real authority to explain what was happening—just radio silence and vague responses, while they held onto my money. The excuses provided—relating to scaffolding, council permits, and traffic management—are things any competent roofing company should have factored in from day one, especially for a property of this height. These aren’t unforeseen complications; they’re basic due diligence failures. And instead of owning their mistake and fixing it, they’ve decided it’s all “too hard” and dumped the job back on me. To be clear: I did everything required from my end. I trusted them. I paid them. I waited patiently. And now I’m left with roof damage, delays, and a serious loss of time—at the worst possible moment in my life. This wasn’t just a case of poor communication. It was a complete failure in responsibility, professionalism, and decency. If you value your time, money, or sanity, do not engage this company. I’ll be taking this further with Fair Trading, NCAT, and the ACCC, and I advise others who have had similar experiences to do the same. I’m pretty disappointed with my overall experience with Newcastle Roofing Professionals. After discussing the job with Jay, and under the advisement that re-pitching the sunroom at the rear of our house would be fine, which we advised would be completed in around two weeks, weather permitting, he maintained that tarping would be used that would be ‘water tight’. Under this advise, I signed the contract and made a 20k deposit for work. Work went well for the initial stage of the install. Areas that would connect to the new pitched area were tarped. With the first rain, our bathroom ceiling became so drenched that droplets were coming through, the tarp had been incorrectly installed there. Lachlan from Designer Tech Roofing, the subcontractor for the install came and remedied this, the ceiling now needs to be completely replaced in that room. Within a week it was then leaking through our freshly restored and re-plastered ceiling in our dining room, leaving a large water stain. At the same time, the tarp had been incorrectly installed over the dining room wooden lead light window, where water pooled to such a level that it started leaking out of our picture rails and the window corners all over our newly polished floors. Lachlan once again came out, and only acknowledged after he had left via text message that the tarp allowed it to pool in the eaves after dismissing my window concerns when he first arrived. They returned and finished the install. Our solar then needed to be reinstalled, but Lachlan and his team had drilled through one of our solar circuits when they had installed the first portion of roofing, meaning they wouldn’t be working. It took three weeks for them to come and resolve this issue. We subsequently couldn’t use our solar to offset our electricity bills for this period. Lachlan left nasty messages about payment for the final install, I had paid the first portion, but I was waiting for the damages by him and his team to be rectified before finalising the last payment, to ensure it was fixed. Newcastle Roofing Professionals were advised of this and were completely fine with that arrangement, however, I still received a nasty voicemail off Lachlan. Insinuating he had done me a favour by fixing the tarp a few times, to me its part of the contract and was the minimum standard of work expected, it wasn’t above and beyond to ensure a clients ceiling wouldn’t be damaged after they were assured of this. He was advised of the damages to the solar by himself and his team, he offered no reply or apology and was increasingly rude. He was paid earlier this week, as my solar was finally repaired, but I definitely don’t recommend. My carpenter also asked that the gutter hole in the new area be placed over the line between the new build area and the old, to make it more blended, this was agreed to, this wasn’t done.
