What do you love most about your job?

The best part of my job is helping young (and not so young) people to buy their first home. It is such a massive achievement for them and provides a great sense of job satisfaction to me to be a part of that. That isn't to say I can't provide value to, or don't want to work with people who are buying their third or fourth investment property - I really do! But the first home buyers provide the greatest level of satisfaction.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I'd been working in a salaried role in the same industry for 5 years and needed a change. It was refreshing to get back to being self-employed (which I had been previously). I'd rather be my own boss, and in this new venture, I was able to get my wife involved. Now we are able to work together towards our financial goals, while helping other people achieve theirs.

Why should our clients choose you?

At heart, I feel like I am a teacher, as many people in my family are. I like explaining how things work (and I like talking). I like to know how things work, and I like to share that with my clients.
I have excellent attention to detail and will put together a very good application, giving you the best chance of having a lender approve it.
I am tenacious. On the rare occasion when a lender declines a loan application, I will work VERY hard to get them to change their mind, or to get an approval with an alternative lender. My conversion rate of getting loans approved has always been extremely high, compared with other advisers.

Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.

I can work remotely, or in person. When I became a mortgage adviser in 2006, it was almost always a matter of meeting clients in person, and it was a very rare thing to work on an application in another part of the country. But with COVID, we all learned that it was possible to do things remotely that we otherwise would not have considered. Now, many people are happy to do meetings on video, which I'm perfectly happy to do. This allows me to provide the same service to anyone in the country, rather than being local to my location. That said, there is still something special about meeting people in person, and that can lead to a stronger connection.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?

Most of my client meetings are done by video these days. So with no direct connection, there is no risk of passing infection to or from clients. But, as noted above, I am still happy to have face to face meetings with those clients who would prefer that (assuming we live close enough together to allow it).
