What makes a great website?
Clean simple design that offers intuitive navigation and content layout.
The coding must be clean and every page and image should have keywords allocated to help with domain score and search engine ranking.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
In my Website Development Brief for new websites, I ask the below questions which identify the needs of the client and helps guide both parties in the right direction. From this, I grasp a good understanding of the business which helps deliver the best outcome for both parties.
This brief also defines the decision on which platform to use.
Marketing and SEO briefs are provided at different stages if the client requires further services.

Once I have all the information in the Web Development Brief, I then create a mockup of the website using Adobe XD. This is a fully interactive software where the client can view a life-like visual of the website.
Once documentation has been confirmed, I then develop the website on my local server for Wordpress sites, otherwise, I use Wix and Webflow servers for development - platform dependent on the brief.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
Although much of this is stated in the Web Development Brief...
it's a good idea to know the budget of the client to give an idea of the mandate complexity;
Providing examples of preferred design work will help me create an appropriate web design;
A list from the client stating exactly what projects will require web design work, design work and to what extent they may require marketing and SEO;
The client should work on procuring content, text, photographs or logos before initiating the project with the designer. However, I understand that this is not always possible as some clients require guidance with image and content ideas which is part of my service;
Image format confirmation such as jpg, png etc;

I absolutely enjoy working with my clients. Their needs provide the foundation of my web services, they give me inspiration and this is what makes my design successful and fit-for-purpose.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I was made redundant about one year ago so I decided to give freelancing a go. I haven't looked back ever since.
