What do you love most about your job?
The process of being organised and process driven. My role is to take the accounts to trial balance and the bookkeeping process as part of the engine room of the business, unseen but ensuring all is balanced and correct. I am constantly trialing new add ons with Xero, off course having favourites and championing these, and being honest when I am not great at others. Every day is different but challenges always present opportunities.
What inspired you to start your own business?
After a few redundancies it became obvious my previous skills and education would work well with bookkeeper. Production planning skills ensured I could calculate the fashion ranges would ensure the company could provide the cashflow to ensure all costs were covered, and in a sense bookkeeping appeared similar to me. Plus I was fortunate to be an early user of Xero, and haven't looked back!
Why should our clients choose you?
Like anything, one can sell themselves its delivering the required outcomes that ensures your client stays with you. I love everything about bookkeeping and understanding a broad range of industries helps me alot. But like anything there is always a lifecycle with clients, some work out and others with changing needs require more specialised needs. I am a great believer everything for a reason, and remember to go the extra mile to ensure all outcomes are met, and I have a great sense of humour and ability to communicate with a wide range of cultures to.
Data entry
Entering of supplier invoices and creating customer invoices as directed by the client.
Bank reconciliation
Matching or creating account coding for expenses and income from bank feeds coming into Xero.
Aged payables
Entering invoices and matching invoices to supplier statements. I call suppliers if necessary but normally the invoice is in the email system somewhere or its a matter of asking the client.
Aged receivables
Entering customer invoices and sending out monthly statements. Chasing money where appropriate.
Month end general ledger reconciliation
Checking all account coding is correct, and correcting where necessary.
GST reconciliation and GST filing
Making sure GST data is correct and filing direct with IRD.
Payroll
Proving payroll services weekly, fortnightly, monthly and ad hoc as required. PAYE is auto filing with accounting software now so it never gets missed.
Accounts to trial balance and CA liaison
What I do is often governed by your accountant, so I do as they command as they say. I need to ensure I have the best relationship with your accountant.
Sole Trader Bookkeeping
As a sole trader often you only need your numbers done once a year, I have a great range of sole traders I work with on this basis with filing their year end income tax returns.
